It was our last night together so why not all venture to The Original Farmers Market at the corner of Fairfax and 3rd Street. Amanda and I thought it would be fun for everyone to have dinner at Monsieur Marcel, nice long table, right at the center of the restaurant, hamburger and chicken friendly for picky eaters, wine for the adults. Somewhat of a bumpy start, but once the bottle of Chianti arrived and tempers subsided (it's all good, don't worry), we all settled in for a nice meal. It was a big day, earlier was Sylvie's birthday extravaganza and Shiloh got somewhat of an ear infection.

We've been going to the Farmers Market more and more the last year. It's a wonderful place of diversity and history so we wanted to share that with the family - places to get stickers, ice cream, restaurants, freh produce and meats, and of course candy. Dakota, Shiloh and Sylvie had a wonderful time, journeying off with Uncle Mike to explore the the maze like store fronts. They had a wonderful time.

Aunty Missy was in town this last week. We had the best time hanging out, going to dinner, and playing with Sylvie. Our amazing nanny Glenda had a birthday party for Sylvie and all the kids and nanny's in the neighborhood. It was so special and sweet. Amanda and I are thankful to have such a wonderful woman spending time with Sylvie each day - Glenda is one in a million. Luckily for us, it fell on Martin Luther King Day so Amanda and I both got to go and share in the festivities. Here are a few from the party.

It's been a year - where to even begin? I can honestly say, it's been the best year of my life. Sylvie is so full of character, energy and life...it's incredible - I think it's even rubbing off on me and those that know me well, that's a good thing. My wife is incredible, my best friend in the world. I don't know where I'd be without her. She's let me realize my dream...I hope she says the same about me.

We saw friends and family, went to a wedding or two. We traveled, whether it was across the pond to Malta, down to New Orleans, over to the Windy City, quick getaways to Ojai, and of course back home to little old Minnesota where it all started. With that said, we definitely get it done and get on our share of planes. This coming year, little Sylvie gets her own seat - oh boy!

We celebrated each others success, met new friends, started new adventures, closed the door on old ones. We laughed, cried, cheered, pouted, argued, played, sang, skyped, smiled, etc...

I made six movies - six frickin movies. Broke bread with fancy celebrities - two of the biggest movie stars in the world, flew on private jets, had fancy meals, went to war, cut countless sizzle reels, and somehow came out the other side. I did all right I guess, but who is honestly keeping score...I'm a kid in a candy store.

I've realized what my favorite sound in the whole world is - Sylvie's voice. It's the greatest, so sweet, the way she puts an S on the end of every word, it just works. She is an angel.

So what about 2012??? Well, honestly, I hope it's more of the same. A new house with more space would be nice - it's good to set goals!

LAST TRIP OF THE YEAR - OJAI

Looking back over the year, I could have sworn we went to Ojai more than once - I guess I was wrong and the only other time was back in June.

We got in the car mid morning Friday and traffic was as light as it's ever been - only took us about an hour and fifteen minutes door-to-door. We went to the local park off the main street, then back to the resort to check-in to our home away from home - room 751. Later, we went for a walk and Sylvie got a big dinger on her forehead after trying to get her footing on some rocks. Jimmy's Pub was kind enough to give us a bag of ice and chips for the road. Sylvie and I tooled around the putting green and then got ready for dinner when Amanda returned from the gym. We went to Azu, got some ice cream to go, and went back to the hotel.

The next morning we had breakfast in our room, more park, a coffee in town, window shopping, more gym and treatments at the Spa. Sylvie and Amanda managed to get some swimming in. We kept dinner casual and went to Jimmy's Pub on the grounds - even after staying at the resort 10+ times we'd never been. Pizza, chicken wings, salad and a hotdog and fries for Sylvie.

Sunday was more of the same - breakfast in our room and swimming at the pool. We were on the road by 130 in the afternoon and back to reality by 245.

Every minute of every hour of every day was accounted for. I don't think I can remember the time where there was an activity every seven and a half minutes. Whether it was sitting down for dinner, gong to the Mall of America on Black Friday, quick trips to Wall Greens to get god knows what, watching a movie or 10, playing in the basement, going over to Zades and the park, playing on the driveway at the Dames, lunch, going to Bubby Sophie's, and a quick run or two to McDonalds. We had the greatest time back in Minnesota. Sylvie got to play with her cousins which was just so special - she loves them. And to see Zade, Bubby, Grandma Susu, and Papa made the weekend. That's it. Deep in Silver Lake there is a little Mexican restaurant that serves amazing tacos and has over 150 different kinds of tequilas - far from home for me but definitely worth the travels. They are also known for their mojitos and margaritas. My dear friend Samantha Stone had her big 30th birthday party there last night with family and close friends, a couple celebs of course, movie producers and what not, the who's who of the Soho House, and some wonderfully surprising news!

Sam and I became friends roughly seven years ago when we were both assistants on the Paramount lot. We had a lot of fun then and it's always great to catch up with Sam and her husband Justin - we'll figure out brunch eventually! Thanks for including Amanda and I. Here is to the next chapter!

Syl "the cat" Rain was out in full form Halloween night. She had the best time playing in Meghan and David's front yard. We took her to a few houses in their neighborhood, but before you could say "boo," Sylvie called uncle..."no more houses" so we went back to base camp so Sylvie could hand out candy to all the kids. She loved it, making conversation with everyone who came to the door - she thought it was "awesome." Thanks again to Meghan and David for having us over. It's become a nice tradition that we look forward to each year.

It was so nice to see Adam, Jenny, Joshie and Ivy today for lunch at Il Tramezzino in Beverly Hills. Adam and Jenny used to live in Los Angeles until they moved back to Chicago four years ago. We had so much fun with them while they lived here - fun nights out, a trip to Vegas, etc - so it was great to get the opportunity to catch up with them. We patrolled Canon for a bit, found our way into a shoe store where Joshie ended up getting some cool black Uggs - handsome little man.. We strolled over to Beverly and went to a few shops. Sylvie dropped her balloon and it went down the street under a car. Joshie was sweet enough to let Sylvie have his for a bit. It was a quick visit but like good friends, we didn't miss a beat. Next time in Chicago.

Well, Sylvie is a little under the weather and it's been a day of taking care of patient zero at home. We were all ready to go, dressed in our trendiest Saturday morning garb to head out to Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch in BH for round two, but it was a no go, I repeat, "that is a no Ghostrider, the mission has been compromised." With a beautiful sunset Sunday afternoon and not much on the docket, we decided to head into Beverly Hills to Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch so Sylvie could run around, pick out a pumpkin, and have a little fun. This pumpkin patch is "the" place to be seen that it even has spot for paparazzi to shoot the celebs that drop in. Unfortunately, no sightings Sunday afternoon but we are heading back next weekend with a bunch of Sylvie's little friends for more mishegas. Anyway, a few to keep you busy...

I remember buying my first mac in college. My dad doesn't know but I used a bunch of my savings to buy it! In the spring of 2002, I remember going to the DoIt Center in Madison Wisconsin to pick up my MacBook Pro - I had ordered it online through their website. It was a very exciting day and I was also getting a discounted version of Final Cut Pro 3. Awesome. The box was so cool and I couldn't believe I was actually getting a Mac. From that day forward, I was hooked. I took it everywhere, editing this short documentary I was doing for my dear friend Danny Westerman about his tennis career at UW. It was so cool. I remember lugging it to College Library wand watching all the latest movie trailers at apple.com/trailers. Again, so cool. Now, almost ten years later, I still use a Mac and will always use one. Anyway, that's my story, thought I'd share. Peace.

Another wonderful year...

Sylvie Rain was spotted early Thursday morning after high-holiday services at Temple Israel Hollywood, shortly thereafter on Fairfax outside Canter's Deli, and no sooner at The Nosh of Beverly Hills for an early brunch with a small entourage. She hosted dinner that evening at her West Hollywood home (sounds like we have a big house when I say it that way doesn't it...) with close friends and family - notably starlit couple Alan Joos and Carolina Elias. Also in attendance was power real estate broker and mother Amanda Calof as well as Hollywood Socialites Susan and Donald Dame aka Susu and Papa.

It was a wonderful year and no better way to celebrate with family and friends. Check out some of the paparazzi shots throughout the day...

My little cousin Deb is all grown up. It feels literally like yesterday, 1988 (just throwing out a year) that we were at Bubby Sophie's house for Shabbat Dinner - a little brisket, chicken, potato kinish, cream soda, Zade at one end, Bubby at the other. If we got done in time, we just might catch the end of Dallas! It's hard to believe just how fast time flies, you blink and it's 23 years later and your little cousin, who's not so little anymore, is getting married.

The wedding was gorgeous and planned by my Aunty Elissa...it was perfect. A beautiful Minnesota afternoon and evening on Nicollet Island, what more could u ask for. Deb looked stunning and John handsome, both complimenting each other in only the best of ways. Deb's dress was beautiful, a fluid A-line (did I get that right??!!), lacy back, and a train that was the perfect length, the boys in grey suits matching the cute cocktail dresses worn by the girls.

Amanda and I were so glad we could share with you on this special day. We love you very much. Thanks for letting me snap a few photos. Some b&ws for now but, many more to come. Enjoy. Reminder to click on the photo to enlarge.

Was going through some old photos I'd taken a couple years back and have always loved this one. There is always somewhat of a dreamlike experience being this close to the sign that gives me confidence - it's pretty cool. I remember Amanda and I were hiking, just the two of us up in the hills, LBS (life before Sylvie) as we like to call it. It was a beautiful day, sun still pretty high in the west, creating a nice reflection off the Hollywood sign.
