Printing made easy with PrintJinni – Android App Review

There are numerous Android applications available in the Google Play Store which helps professionals increase productivity. Adding another app to the list is PrintJinni, developed by Thinxtream Technologies Pte Ltd. While busy at your workplace, it is sometimes a tedious task to find printers to print out documents. For occasions such as that, PrintJinni is a perfect solution. This is a wireless mobile printing Android Application which allows us to take print outs of documents, files from your Android phone.

You start with a simple registration process and once you are done with it, you are set to use the services of the application. You can print documents, pictures and web pages by copying and pasting it on the PrintJinni paste board option. If whatever you need to print is more than a page then a better option would be selecting the printjinni option that is available from the file you wish to print. Once selected, it searches for the printers nearby and gives you the available options and all you have to do is select print. Option to add printers by typing out the IP address of the printer is also available.

An interesting feature is that you can also print with the Google Cloud print services. Users can setup the Google Cloud print services from their Android phone and print files on the go. Social integration is also available. You can browse through your photos on Flickr, Google+ and Picasa and select the photos you wish to print. However, these are the only social channels available on the app.

All in all, the app is pretty simple to use and makes printing quite an easy task for Android users. An iOS version of the app is available however many of the features have not been implemented onto the Android platform. The app is available in the Google Play Store for free. PrintJinni’s Printing services are free for one month and Google Cloud Print services are free for 3 months. Additional services are priced at $0.99 per month.

Android Development team announces 500 million Android devices Activated

Google announced that they have now 500 million Android device activated with 1.3 million activation added every day. It was during the Google I/O event where 400 million devices were activated with 1 million activations per day. Hugo Director of Product Management, Android, on his Google Plus page posted, “Today is a big day for Android… 500 million devices activated globally, and over 1.3 million added every single day.”

Google has also provided the Operating System distribution. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is in the lead with 57.5% distribution followed by Ice Cream Sandwich with 20.9%. Android’s latest OS release Android 4.1 Jellybean has still a lot to catch up with as its only 1.2% according to Google’s platform distribution.

Google releases Gift cards service for Google Play Store

It was rumored to be released in a week but we have great news! Google has officially announced the release of Gift Cards for its Google Play Store. The service is currently available only in the US for the time being. Users who wish purchase gift cards can do so from retailers RadioShack, Target and GameStop.

The Gift cards are available in denominations of $10, $25 and $50 which can used to purchase Android apps and games. The gift cards can also be used to purchase extra levels, add-on packs, and virtual currency. Google however has included that the gift cards cannot be redeemed on Android app subscriptions, magazine subscriptions, or hardware and accessory purchases.

It has been rumored for sometime now and now it’s almost official. Google is releasing Gift cards to its Play Store in a few weeks. Available in denominations of $10, $25 and $50 the gift cards can be used to purchase apps, movies, books, music, games and works on in-app purchases as well.

You can purchase the Gift cards from retailers such as Target, RadioShack, and GameStop in the United States over the coming weeks. The Gift cards will also be available later this month at Walmart.com.

The feature was first noticed when Google had rolled the new version of Play Store. Along with the option of redeeming gift cards, users could also have wish lists. With the holiday season coming up, timing could not have been more perfect.

How to protect your Android Device from Malware

With thousands of apps in the Google Play Store, it’s quite a task to identify the good apps from the ones which could infect your phone. There may be a few applications which look fishy but many of the others look quite ordinary and it would not be easy to identify them as malware.

Here are a few steps which can be taken as precautions before downloading an Android application.
• Research the publisher/developer of the app. Visit developer’s website and also browse through the other applications which have been developed by them.
• Check out the reviews the app has received from other users and app review websites. Though some of the reviews in the Google Play Store might not be authentic, it will prove to be a bit helpful.
• Do not download an application from an unofficial and untrusted source such as forums or third part websites. The best way to be safe is to download apps from official sources such as Amazon AppStore, Google Play, App Brain and other such sources.
• Most importantly, download Android Package files (APKs) from trusted sources only. If you find that the source looks a little suspicious, avoid downloading the APKs.

• Always read the app permissions. If you find anything fishy, such as a simple app requesting to access contacts or your messages, then you need to stay away from such apps.
• Download an antivirus application for your phone and update the antivirus software regularly. Some antivirus apps which you can consider using as protection for your Android phone are AVG Antivirus, Norton Security and Antivirus, Lookout Security & Antivirus, NetQin Security & Anti-virus.

Good news App Developers! Android 4.1 Jellybean is finally here!

At the first day of Google I/O, there has been a lot of interesting news and new devices which would excite all developers and Android fans. First of all, the most awaited Android Operating System, Android 4.1 Jellybean has been finally announced which has a lotd of remarkable changes.

Project Butter

The new OS has been optimized to provide a butter smooth experience in app navigation and has been termed Project butter. They have done this by making the vsync of the screen at 60 frames per second which provides a really smooth UI.

Home screen Widgets

Android 4.1 JellyBean has introduced the new feature of resizing app widget sizes. The app widget can be resized based on how much the user expands them and the space available on the home screen.
Android developers have access to systrace, a new tool in the Jellybean Software development kit (SDK) which shows developers optimize their app by displaying a part of the system activity.

Text and Voice Input

Text Input has been improved with upgraded predictive input technology and development team has made some improvements with Voice typing as well. This feature now can be used offline and no longer requires you to be online.

Camera

Camera features have been improved as well. Taking pictures, browsing easily through the gallery section and deleting pictures is now easier.

Notifications

The Notifications section has not been neglected either. Actions can done from the notifications bar itself. Users can return phone calls from the notification bar and also check their emails without having to switch to the Gmail App.

For developers, the SDK is available here. Google would start rolling out the OS to the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, and Motorola Xoom in the middle of July.
