The A8 processor, which has two cores and runs at 1.4 GHz, in the iPhone 6 is faster than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, which is the fastest smartphone processor available to Android phones, even when the Snapdragon 805 has four cores and runs at a speed of up to 2.7GHz.

The reason why Apple's dual-core processor beats all the four and eight core processors is because Apple has made the right choices (and right compromises) in designing its processors while in the world of Android, companies are just chasing after the core count.

To understand this keep the following in mind:

-- The processing power of a chip depends on a lot of factor. Core count and the speed are just two aspects of it.

-- More important aspects when it comes computing performance is memory bandwidth, latency and ability to execute threads in a more efficient way. This governs the instructions per cycle (IPC) that a processor can push put.

-- IPC depends on many aspects but it is not a given that high clock speed or more number of cores leads to better IPC.

Keeping this in mind, here is what is happening in the mobile world. Apple, which started designing its own processors with A5 in 2011 probably because it felt no other company was taking the right approach, is going after the IPC. Now IPC is something that sounds bad on a marketing brochure. The number of core sounds more sexier. So other companies like Qualcomm and MediaTek are focussed on increasing the number of cores even though it doesn't matter.

Ubuntu For Android to be Shown Next Week at MWC 2012

On Tuesday Canonical revealed Ubuntu for Android, a release the company says will bring a full desktop computing experience to a docked Android smartphone. But don't expect to install this software on your current device (legally): it will only be available on new devices provided by participating manufacturers.

Canonical has reportedly combined the Ubuntu architecture with Google's 2.3 "Gingerbread" AOSP build at the kernel level. As the name indicates, it won't be out to compete with Apple's iOS, Microsoft's Windows Phone or even Android itself as a standalone OS, but serve as a "value-add" service that Canonical hopes will reduce the number of devices carried by Android consumers.

"Why carry two devices, when you could carry only one?" reads the Ubuntu for Android website. "Your next high-end smartphone has far more horsepower than you’ll need on a phone, and more than enough for a laptop. So we’ve brought Android together with Ubuntu, the world’s favorite free operating system, to give you a full productivity desktop that fits in your pocket. Android for the phone experience, Ubuntu for the desktop, all on one device, running at the same time."

According to Canonical, the software requires "minimal" custom hardware enablement, meaning it will be installed at the manufacturer level, and won't be possible to install on existing handsets. However since both Ubuntu and Android will share the same Gingerbread kernel, both will run concurrently when the device is docked. This allows both mobile and desktop functionality to co-exist in different runtimes.

"Shared services and applications are delivered using a Convergence API module which ensures the tight integration between desktop and mobile environments," Canonical reports. "Work is balanced across the cores of the phone. When the handset is not docked, both CPU cores transfer their full power to Android."

Hardware requirements for Ubuntu on Android include an ARM-based dual-core 1 GHz SoC (x86 may be possible in the future), 512 MB of RAM, HDMI output with a secondary frame buffer device, 2 GB of storage for the OS disk image, USB host mode, and video acceleration (shared kernel driver with associated X driver; Open GL, ES/EGL).

Consumers with Ubuntu installed on their Android smartphone won't notice anything different outside the typical Android experience, making calls, surfing the web and playing Angry Birds like any other Android smartphone user. But once the gadget is docked, users will get the full Unity desktop environment on the big screen. And based on screenshots, it appears that several Android apps will appear in a window, granting access to emails, SMSes, contacts and more without having to undock the phone. Even more, phone calls can be sent and received while the phone is still docked.

"Manage and view photos stored on your smartphone using the Ubuntu Gallery application. Then edit them on the Ubuntu desktop and save them back to the phone. Create, edit and consume, all on one device," Canonical states. "All your Android social network account credentials are synchronised seamlessly, using the Ubuntu social networking client to provide easy access to your online communities."

Ubuntu for Android is expected to make an appearance next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. To learn more about this piggy-backing OS, head here. Minecraft for Android to release on September 29

Mojang, the publishers of the upcoming game Minecraft, has confirmed that the game will be released on Google Android platform on September 29. Minecraft is a construction centric game written in Java. Focused on creativity and building, the Minecraft has a sandbox style nature which means that there are no limits to the maps. Mojang will eventually release the game for iOS platform as well.

Minecraft is about testing your creativity to build things without any limitations. Featuring the 8-bit style graphics treatment, the game was expected to be released exclusively for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play running Android OS.

Mojang developer Daniel Kaplan shared the video of Minecraft — Pocket Edition that shows new touch controls for the Android devices. The game gets a new virtual Directional-pad on the left side of the screen to handle movement. The characters in the game carry smarter Artificial Intelligence which enables them to jump by themselves on approaching a ledge or climbing hills.

For mining the building blocks, players need to hold the screen and simply tap the screen again to drop the building blocks.

Unlike the social game CityVille, the Minecraft has dynamism and style of its own. It becomes super addictive over a period of time especially when you start building stuff in your map.

There are no details on the pricing but all Android smartphone owners need to check the Android Market after two days to get the Minecraft game.

Rumor mills are working overtime as Samsung Galaxy S III 'the superphone' is around the corner. Don't believe us; well that's exactly what market is abuzz with. According to Android Community, With supposed details about 'the superphone' already out -2.0 Ghz Quad-core processor (apparently created by the company itself) along with 1.5 GB RAM, 32 GB embedded memory with SD card slot of expansion, prospective buyers are certainly impressed.

In addition, the dream superphone will come with a 4.65-inch 1280 X 1024 resolution HD AMOLED III touchscreen. On top of that, a 10-mega pixel snapper too have been given. Sounds too good to be true, isn't it? However, this is the very reason why a large section of media and majority of experts are dismissing it as a 'baseless figment of imagination.' Android Ice Cream Sandwich by this October

It appears that the people behind the long-silent Notion Ink group have come back from the dead to note that they’d not only be adding Ice Cream Sandwich to their Android tablet “Adam”, they’d be doing so in November, right after the launch date of the platform which is, they say, late October. Now it’s not too much of a stretch to think that the author of this news release, Rohan Shravan, has just been reading Android blogs for the past few weeks and is just guessing that the rumors are true, but there is a point to consider: he’s been right before. On the other hand, he’s been terribly unreliable before as well.

In a news release showing up this weekend, Shravan notes the following: “Official (“update button”) Ice Cream Sandwich update in November after Google’s launch in late Oct”. This follows the information we just this past week from Eric Schmidt himself as he noted either October or November as the launch window. Next, Shravan notes that he’s pretty sure OMAP will be the chipset of choice for the next-generation Android system. Shravan says “if you go by the industry signals, OMAP is the preferred platform for the next wave of devices.”

If you follow SlashGear, you also know that OMAP with Ice Cream Sandwich is a likely situation. While the last processor manufacturer for a hero device made in accordance with Google’s strict specifications for their version platform launch was NVIDIA and their Tegra 2 SoC for Honeycomb, we’re also banking on the idea that Texas Instruments and their OMAP4 chip will gain an audience with the Google gods.

That said, Shravan is also probably following along, as everyone else in the Android world is following along, with the leaks and spilled possibilities of the Nexus Prime coming quite soon if Samsung has anything to say about it, a hidden code and a legal team all that lies between us and, again, an October release of the Ice Cream Sandwich hero device.

Zombieville USA ($1.99)

I'm not usually into zombie themed games, but this one caught my eye and I've been hooked on it. It's a simple side scrolling game. You pick a character at the beginning (my favorite is the ninja) and walk through towns slashing and shooting zombies. You start off with a simple baseball bat and pistol, but as you progress you earn money. In between stages you have the option to upgrade your weapons and replenish your health (which also costs money, but it's minimal). Some of the weapons include a rocket launcher, automatic shotgun, and a laser cannon (think flamethrower but with a laser instead). The levels get progressively harder as you go on and the zombies get tougher, too. The game occasionally throws you a bone and puts a vehicle at the beginning of the stage that'll run over all zombies and drive you through that level.

Rugby World Cup 2011 (Free)

It doesn't have anything cool like 3D graphics, but the visuals are really good and the game has a good amount of polish to it. I haven't experienced any FC's or problems so far. You can get Zombieville USA in the market for $1.99. [Market Link]

Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition ($30/year)

I'm not one to buy into the "malware on my smartphone can see what I'm doing" hype, as I am usually pretty careful about the apps I download and the links I click. That being said, I don't see any reason not to give Trend Micro's latest Android security suite a 30 day free trial. In addition to the parental controls, safe surfing, and download protection already offered by TM's Mobile Security for Android, Personal Edition adds an app scanner to block "infected apps" from stealing your information.

In addition, TM now offers lost device protection, which allows you to locate your misplaced or stolen device from an online portal. Personal Edition also enhances call, text and surf security by blocking unwanted calls, texts, and questionable websites. I didn't notice any slowdown in my Thunderbolt's performance with the app running in the background, but if you do, remember that it's free for 30 days and, like any other app, can be uninstalled with the click of a button. I don't know whether I'll fork over $30 at the end of my trial, but if malware keeps you up at night, I'd say it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. [Market Link]

If you travel by rail at all in the UK, then the ability to check train times and plan journeys on the go can be really useful. Sure, there are websites that allow you to do this, but many of them run slowly over 3G, and most are poorly optimized for mobile browsers. Google as an app developer has released various applications in the Android Market and some of these come pre-installed on most Android devices – like Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Search.

With all these high-end, octo-core phones being released with some of the most cutting edge and powerful GPU’s capable of advanced 3D graphics — this game wont require any of that. In fact, Gurk, the 8-bit RPG is merely a 100KB download of the most purest, old-school RPG fun.

Alright — I know most of you took one look at those screen shots and immediately ran for the hills. I did too. In fact, I laughed. But don’t let these cheesy 8-bit visuals fool you. Underneath this games pixeled exterior is a surprisingly deep and well thought out RPG. With over 24 dungeon levels, 44 different items and 23 unique monsters — seriously, you’re just going to have to try it for yourself.

After giving the game a chance, I couldn’t believe I was actually having fun with it. It may not look amazing, but it’s definitely worth a look. You can find Gurk, the 8-bit RPG for free in the Android Market right now.

Next iteration of Android to be called Jelly Bean

The Android platform has taken us all by surprise with its features and functionalities over the past couple of years. But there is another thing that the Android platform is known for. We’re talking about the rather strange names for its OS updates.

Starting all the way back from Android 1.5 Cupcake, Google decided to name the OS updates after desserts or sweets in alphabetical order. Today we’ll discuss the Android version which is to succeed the Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0 update. The Ice Cream Sandwich interestingly is still awaiting release somewhere around next month or the month after that. Well, the successor to Ice Cream Sandwich is to be called “Jelly Bean”, which doesn’t seem strange given Google’s policy with the naming of OS updates.

Well, there is no word from Google on this, but we feel Jelly Bean will be pretty much it. As for the OS version and other additional info, we will have to wait till the very last minute since Google doesn’t give out that info till the OS update is ready to roll out. But it has been reported that the Jelly Bean update will have a lot more features in its inventory than Ice Cream Sandwich which will come as bad news to the users waiting for the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

It is also being said that all the features that were promised with Ice Cream Sandwich will be moved to Jelly Bean. This could mean that the Ice Cream Sandwich update is just another update with a couple of not so surprising features. But well, since all of this is still a rumor so we recommend you to take it with a pinch of salt.

All is to be revealed with the Ice Cream Sandwich update which will break cover soon. As of now we know that Ice Cream Sandwich will be a bridge between Gingerbread and Honeycomb, meaning a unified OS bringing in the best of both worlds. Let’s hope the rumors are false and we get to see some real action with Ice Cream Sandwich.

Netflix now finally, fully supports Android

Instead of adding in support for specific Android phones every few weeks, Netflix has now opened up its app to everyone with Android 2.2 or 2.3.

That means anyone who goes out and buys a new Android phone today will be able to stream Netflixmovies and TV shows without worrying about whether or not that specific handset is supported.

The only people who still can't access Netflix are those with existing phones running a lower version of Android, which only encompasses those who have an outdated phone anyway. The major update now gives Netflix access to about 80% of allAndroid devices.

One word of caution, though, is that devices running Android 3.0, the specialized tablet version of Android, are not included in the sweeping update. They only account for around 1% of all Android devices, but products like the Xoom, Galaxy Tab, and Thrive are still on a trial basis for Netflix.

For many Android users, Netflix's slow rollout seemed frustrating. The online video giant originally released an Android app some months ago, but most users who downloaded it couldn't do anything with it. Slowly, Netflix began adding support on a phone-by-phone basis, adding random handsets without any real rhyme or reason. Some blogs suggested the company was only testing it with theAndroid phones that its employees happened to have on hand.

The same phenomenon is happening with Hulu Plus right now, with only scattered devices supported for that app. It all stems from concerns over video playback compatibility as well as the digital rights management (DRM) that needs to be incorporated.

Clearly, fragmentation continues to be a problem with Android.

Tap Tap Revenge 4 Review

Some iOS to Android ports are playable, some aren’t and then there is Tap Tap Revenge 4, the Android port edition. We find what bothers us, what we like and what needs changed before anyone spends there hard earned cash on any song packs.

Tap Tap Revenge is a lot like DDR for your fingers. You tap colors, stars and other animations to music that’s popular now, and that you’ve heard a quarter million times on the radio. As long as you play well, you’ll earn an exponential multiplier. Instead of adding to all the colors as you advance, the multiplier functions for a certain amount of time before ending.

As you progress, gain experience and waste hours playing, you will be rewarded with more songs or coins, which can be used to redeem songs or other things for customizing your avatar. The song collection is disappointing and the free songs are even worse most of the time.

We mentioned this, and we’ll say it again: this is a port of an iOS game, and it smells like it in more ways than it should. While you can use the back button within the interface, this is only true sometimes, however, when this isn’t true (and even when it is), there exists a home icon that takes you back, duplicating functionality while not following Android design principles. Many developers have ported their games to Android successfully all the while retaining the quality of the game and using Android design features. This isn't true here at all.

Like many iOS ports Tap Tap Revenge 4 runs a 5.9-6.7MB service on the phone at start up, that serves as far as we can tell – no purpose. This was more commonly seen before Android had the power behind it that it goes so quickly. It uses this RAM/CPU time to get your location and advertise to you. There is no paid version of Tap Tap Revenge 4 available on the Market without the ads plastered on the menus.

To further demonstrate how poorly this game was ported, some song pack purchases open the browser, connecting to the iOS app store website where you proceed to not buying the song pack. We’re not sure if this is something that’s being worked on, or if the iOS links are there simply as placeholders because not enough content exists for the Android version of the game. However, this is pure speculation. As a result, it appears in-app purchases are not fully functional within this game, combined with a lack of developer support. There have been few to no updates for Tap Tap Revenge 4.

We know we sound like we’re ranking on this game, but it’s because it is truly that bad. Menus are impossible to use, gameplay feels standard at this point from playing DDR, and graphics are under-done, even for what looks like a guitar-hero clone. Don't download this for free, unless you like 30 second trials of songs and bad free music.

Gameloft launches subscription service, HD Android games for 99p only

We’re quite fond of French developer Gameloft. They’ve ripped off – or paid homage to, if you prefer – various home console classics to great effect, yielding the likes of Halo-esque N.O.V.A. and Asphalt 6: Adrenaline Rush.

As detailed on their UK blog, Gameloft is launching a subscription service thingy for Android users, meaning you can score an HD game every week for 99p. Gameloft’s HD efforts usually cost £2.99, so that’s a meaty saving of 66%.

And it gets better, Gameloft fans. You get a free game of your choice when you sign up, so that’s effectively two HD Gameloft games for 99p.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for IFA 2011

The team at Samsung blew the top off of the Android world back in November of 2010 when the released the first real Android tablet effort across the world – what the tech world’s next big convention IFA 2011 may hold is the next generation of this very model with an added 0.7-inches and a Super AMOLED display. As we know from leaked details contained in Samsung’s own official “Unpacked” app for IFA in Berlin, they certainly will be releasing what’s called the Galaxy Tab 7.7. Aside a “Galaxy Note” device that’ll likely have something to do with a stylus for mobile devices and the “Wave 3,” a Bada device with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display,, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 would be the second reported upgrade to a device already out on the market with slightly lesser specifications.

What we can expect from the Galaxy Tab 7.7 was revealed earlier this month on August 11th where we got our hands on a leaked roadmap of Samsung devices which also let us in on possible specs for the first Ice Cream Sandwich device, the Nexus Prime (though we don’t call it that in the roadmap article, learn about how it was confirmed twice just yesterday on our sister site Android Community.) What this leaked roadmap tells us is that the tablet will be the next Android tablet in line to run Google’s official tablet-ready mobile OS Android 3.x Honeycomb.

In addition, this same roadmap lets us in on the idea that this tablet will come in two versions: P6200 and P6210 (or P6100), the latter being a Wi-Fi only device while the former will be an HSPA+ device (we’re hoping for the 4G LTE version sooner than later, if you know what I mean.) Next we believe this tablet will have a 3 megapixel camera on the back, a 2 megapixel camera on the front, and will have a rather impressive display to tote along.

Possible Galaxy Tab 7.7 Refresh for IFA 2011 via DroidLife

Note that the photos above (at least one of them) have the Android menu row of soft keys, this indicating that the device will not be running Android 3.x Honeycomb.

Now here’s where it gets a bit more interesting: this device is said to have a 1024 x 600 pixel display – that’s all well and good on it’s own – but what we MAY be looking at here is a massively impressive (compared to current tablet-sized displays) Super AMOLED screen. Though back on the 12th of Augustthe folks at Samsung insisted that the roadmap and some other details of future devices seen on several blogs were not accurate, we’ve got to keep considering what was noted:

Some media have been reporting that Samsung is preparing to launch nine new smartphones and two new tablet devices. While Samsung is continuously working on new devices for our customers, the details being cited are not accurate in this case.
We appreciate the interest in our upcoming mobile devices and will share more information once its available.

Prototype 7-inch Super AMOLED Samsung Mobile Display at FPD 2010

Beyond (or perhaps in spite of) Samsung’s words here, details on a 7-inch Super AMOLED display have been popping up since November of 2010. Inside that month we got to see a lovely glance at an early vision of a 7-inch Super AMOLED Galaxy Tab-style display. On the other hand, on May 2nd, 2011, we were again told by Samsung that there’d be no Super AMOLED tablets inside 2011. We shall see!

Note that we will of course be up and ready at the Samsung event (and many other events) during IFA 2011 in Berlin next week. Stick with us for coverage galore!

6 Android Apps to Manage Fantasy Football

Use Your League Site’s App

If you use NFL.com or Yahoo’s Fantasy Football site to manage your league, then you should definitely get that site’s app.

NFL.com produced an Android app that you can use to join a league already set up or start your own. Once you set up or join the league use it to rank your players for the draft and then change your lineup each week. As the teams play Sunday, keep track of your player stats in real-time.

If you use Yahoo Fantasy Football, then get their app. It handles all that the NFL.com app does. ESPN has a league as well. All three of them are free to download from the Android Market. Lesser known online leagues might also have an app so search for your site’s name in the Android Market.

Apps for Finding Great Players

Once you snag your site’s app, then get one of these apps or all of them for keeping track of which players to play, who to pick up as a free agent or who to drop from your team.

Aside from having a terrible app icon (see right) My Fantasy Football Guru helps you learn about player news as it happens with live, in-game alerts sent to your Android phone. If you play in a league that allows in-game player changes, this can really help.

Aside from that, it alerts you to injury news and gives general advice for putting the best team together to play so well in your league that you will start “Battles between friends, in-laws, roommates, co-workers, co-coaches, and strangers” (taken from their app description).

NFL Fantasy Cheat Sheet gives you information about various players and recommends the best picks for your fantasy league. Some leagues ask you to pick an individual defensive player and this app provides info on defensive players, something not all apps do.

The app projects which players will be the best at the end of the year, which helps you decide between players to possibly pick up in your draft or free agency during the season. The app will cost you $2.99, but it is highly rated on the Android Market and on the iOS App Store.

Watching Games on the Go Via NFL Sunday Ticket To Go

Of course you will be watching your players and the best way to watch a lot of NFL games on Sunday comes from DirecTV. You will have to pay through the nose for the privilege since it costs nearly $400, but having all those games available makes Sunday awesome for the hard-core football fan. The Red Zone channel shows no commercials and cuts live to games when one team is in scoring position or shows highlights of turnovers right after they happen.

Too bad you find yourself away from the TV on some Sundays. NFL Sunday Ticket To Go takes care of this problem by providing mobile apps that stream the games. You used to need an iOS device to enjoy it, but this year DirecTV added Android support. The app gives live game scoring and streams the games to your Android phone or tablet so long as you are not also watching a game at home.

FIFA 12 releases exclusively for Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY

It seems that Sony Ericsson has finally done what everybody was waiting for - getting exclusive rights to a popular game title for its new Xperia PLAY . And if that game title is the upcoming FIFA 12 , surely most sport gamers wouldn’t be complaining.

Football this weekend? Anyone?

EA Mobile and Sony Ericsson have reached an exclusive agreement that will give Xperia PLAY owners a chance to be the first ones to play FIFA 12 on their Android handset. Football enthusiasts who own an Xperia PLAY can now get the game before it hits the Android market later this year. Complete details are a bit sketchy; however, it’s certain that Sony Ericsson will have exclusive rights to the game for the time being. EA Sports' new FIFA 12 will incorporate an all new gameplay engine with authenticated teams and the Xperia PLAY’s dedicated GPU might just offer an enhanced gaming experience that previous Android games haven’t exactly provided.

The agreement between Sony and EA mobile will exist for an undisclosed limited time. So, if you’re one of those FIFA fans owning an Xperia PLAY, you might just have to rush to grab a copy of FIFA 12.

Sony Ericsson Xperia phones will get an Android upgrade

Sony Ericsson has announced that it will upgrade its Xperia line of smartphones to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread in October.

The upgrade will be limited to 2011 Xperia handsets such as the Play, Arc and Neo, and will bring various new features. The update arrival timing will differ between mobile operators.

Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread will enable a 3D sweep panorama camera mode on Xperia handsets. This means you can view 3D images taken with the phone on a 3D capable TV or monitor. Sony Ericsson's phones don't have dual cameras so we assume that this process is a conversion from 2D to 3D.

Other features include the second version of the firm's Facebook Inside software, Google Talk with video chat, screenshot capture, Swype text input and the ability to use USB peripherals via the Sony Ericsson Live Dock.

Sony Ericsson has also announced another handset called the Xperia Neo V, a sort of combined upgrade and downgrade from the Xperia Neo.

When it's launched in the fourth quarter, the Neo V smartphone will come with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and will have all these new features, but the old Neo will gain these when it gets the update.

What's strange is that the Neo V has the same 3.7in TFT touchscreen, Qualcomm 1GHz processor and casing as the Neo. The downgrade is the camera, which on the Neo is one of its main features, an 8.1MP with Sony's Exmor R sensor. The Neo V will have only a 5MP camera.

The Neo V will have an HDMI port but the Neo has that too. Oh, but we almost forgot to mention that the Neo V handset will come in white instead of red along with blue and silver.

We haven't had a price quoted by Sony Ericsson for the Neo V but unless it is dramatically cheaper than the Neo we recommend opting for the latter and waiting for the Android 2.3.4 upgrade. µ

New Skype 2.1 for Android brings video calls to more phones

The latest version of Skype for Android brings video calling to 17 new handsets - and many more users may be able to simply turn it on in the app settings.

VoIP leader Skype—in the process of being acquired by tech giant Microsoft—has rolled outversion 2.1 of its Skype application for Android phones, substantially expanding the number of handsets that can handle video calls. Initial versions of the video calling feature—just launched in June—supported video calling on just a handful of smartphones. Version 2.1 adds explicit support for 17 new handsets—and Skype notes that even if a users’ handset isn’t specifically listed, they might be able to turn on video calling in the app preferences anyway.

“For those of you using Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above, you should still be able to enable video calling in your Skype settings. Just go to ‘Skype settings’ after launching the app and select ‘enable video calling,’” wrote Mark Douglas in the company’s blog. “Unfortunately, if you cannot see the video calling settings, it means your Android phone does not meet the minimum requirements.”

According to Skype, users of Android 2.2 “Froyo” phones that aren’t certified for use with Skype may only find that the back camera on their device works with the service—front camera support will eventually be rolled out for devices running Android 2.3 or newer.

Skype 2.1 explicitly supports video calling on devices like the Acer A5, a swath of HTC devices (the Sensation, Flyer, Evo 3D and 4G, Desire HD, and original Desire), along with the Samsung Galaxy S series and Galaxy Tab, the LG Revolution, and Sony Xperia mini pro, Play, and ray devices.

Skype’s strong support for Android may soon be another source of Android-derived revenue for Microsoft, which has been pressuring companies to execute patent licenses to protect them from potential infringement litigation against Android. Microsoft is reportedly pressuring Samsung to pay $15 for every Android handset it sells. In the meantime, every penny Skype earns will eventually trickle into Microsoft’s coffers: its $8.5 billion acquisition of Skype is expected to be approved by the end of the year.
