We received news about a GPS problem with all 2011 Sony Xperia Android phones. For users of the phone, it was pretty common for them to encounter losing GPS signal every 5 minutes unless they use a data connection. But even with the data connection available, the problem is also occurring in some devices.

If you are a SE user, this is the problem that you will encounter:

To get rid of the issue, you will need to restart your phone. However, this only works sometimes. Many have even found that an updated version of Google Maps is causing this problem. But even some users who have uninstalled the Google Maps’ latest update, still encounter the issue.

Based on our source, Sony Ericsson has already been alerted and is now investigating on what the problem is caused by. Apparently, all of their Sony Ericsson phones that have updated to 2.3.3, ARC, ARC S, NEO, NEO V and more.

As soon as we get more information, we will be sure to upload on AndroidAuthority.com. We would like to thank Mr. Joachim Buhl for alerting us of this issue.

In the White House’s attempt to be more social they created a Google+ page. It wasn’t clear to what extent they’d be using it at the time – just posting periodical updates to new American goings-on or taking advantage of Huddles and Hangouts, too? Well, at least the latter will be utilized for an upcoming chat with the head honcho (for now) himself.

President Obama will be in a Google+ hangout session next week for some post-SotU discussion and 9 of you have a chance to get in on all the fun. Between now and January 28th, upload a relevant question to the White House’s YouTube page. It might be best to wait for the President’s State of the Union address tomorrow before doing that.

The best questions will be answered and those whose questions are answered will be selected to join the Hangout session for some face time with Mr. President. Interesting to say the least. We love that Google+ is being used this way and we hope more corporations, government bodies and organizations come around to using it. [The White House]

“Counter-Strike Portable” comes along with a lot of original maps (including the #1 map of Counter-Strike: de_dust2), the same gameplay, same teams and apparantly (some) of the original weapons as you can see in the screenshot above. We’re quite excited to play this famous tactical first person shooter on our Android Devices and we’ll come back to this with a let’s play or a review.

Yeah, there have been some cases by big name brands such as OtterBox and the new docking station, but that’s really just about it.

A company by the name Cruzer Lite has introduced there new products, which are cases with an “Andy the Android” figure on the back. The case’s are very similar to the gel cases released by Verizon.

However, the best part is that you will be able to pick these bad boy’s up for around $ 9.90 on Amazon. Not bad, huh? Now I might sound like an informercial here, but it does get even better!

When you buy three of these lovely cases, you get the third one free. It is essentially a “buy two, get one free” type of deal. The coupon code is: BUY2GONE, which you will process at the checkout screen.

The cases also come in a variety of colors including black, smoke, green, clear, blue, red, orange, pink, teal and my personal favorite, purple. There are also reports of the case’s having the ability to fit with the extended 2100 mAh battery.

Do you think you will treat yourself and pick up one of these fun cases? Will it be birthday present? Also, if you have the case already, how does it fit?

It’s what Android enthusiasts were hoping the Nexus S to be when dual core technology started cropping up in mid-2010. The Galaxy Nexus was already out towards the end of 2011 in the West, but here in Asia, we are only getting a glimpse of this device now.

As an Android Enthusiast, I have high expectations of the Galaxy Nexus. After all, it is a Pure Google device that’s considered by many to run bleeding edge Android OS. It is Android at its best. However, after spending 5 days with the Galaxy Nexus, it seems to me that either Android hasn’t exactly arrived, or I’ve had too high an expectation on the Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus experience left me wanting and at times – frustrated.

If you’ve haven’t read my previous article on hardware acceleration, you wouldn’t have a clue where I’m coming from, but if you have, then I’m sure you’ll agree with some of the points I’ve mentioned below. Perhaps I have been sold the idea that Ice Cream Sandwich has taken the Android OS to match the UI smoothness of iOS. Frankly, it hasn’t, but it’s close. Very close.

I love ICS, and I definitely love Android, but there are some parts of ICS which I felt that Google could have done better. Even stranger, was my experience using Touchwiz 3.0 and HTC Sense 3.0 made the experience of the Android 4.0 Pure Google interface disappointing in certain areas. I definitely loved the look of ICS, but not the way certain things worked. If only I could have Touchwiz/HTC Sense functions with an ICS look.

There are tonnes of Galaxy Nexus reviews online, and you certainly do not need me to regurgitate what they have said. So, I’m just gonna cut all the sugar coated words and put the Galaxy Nexus under the knife. This is one review without bias.

A Form That Is Tried And Tested

Unlike the International version of the Galaxy S2, the Galaxy Nexus feels sturdier in the hands. It looked like the marriage between HTC’s aluminium unibody and Samsung’s plastic surgery. The thought of your phone breaking when it hits the floor dissipates from the mind and I am sure this is one phone that can handle a drop test without breaking. It fits in the pocket nicely and there are no concerns about inferior built quality. This does not feel ‘cheap’, unlike previous Samsung Phones – which is a good thing.

The power button and volume rocker feels too soft. It lacks a ‘clicky’ feel which makes me wonder if they could have made it harder like the power button on an iPhone. There are several incidences where I’ve taken the Nexus out of my pocket to realise that the screen was already turned on. Harder buttons would have prevented this.

The curved display is wonderful. When placed faced down, the screen never touches the table, and this prevents scratches on your display. The 3.5mm jack is located on the bottom of the phone and this is slightly awkward for me.

The position of the camera right in the middle of the phone’s back will mean more unnecessary scratches on the camera lens. A simple phone case should solve this though. The battery cover is similar to that on the Galaxy S2. I thought it would have been a nice touch if this was Kevlar coated instead as it didn’t provided enough grip as I thought it would. Still any sensible person will likely get a case to solve this.

The position of the speaker is horrible and contributes to the soft ringtone volume of the phone (especially when the phone is placed with the speakers facing down on a table). I’ve tested this against other Android devices and the ringtone volume is perhaps about 50% the volume of other devices. This makes missed calls and missed messages a norm with this phone.

Pure Google UI Is Smoother… But…

I love the Android 4.0 purplish Tron-like look. It’s futuristic, and modern, but not without some areas of disappointment. Android 4.0 boasts hardware acceleration – which means the on screen components are generated by the GPU and is unlike previous Android versions which draws the components from the Processor. This ultimately means less processor hogging – and ultimately smoother graphics and superior battery life.

The transition between homescreens is without a doubt, the smoothest I’ve seen on an Android device. However, I did notice minute lags when opening the app drawer and while scrolling through the widget drawer. To the untrained eye, this may not be problem, but this frankly means that hardware acceleration did not resolve all the laggy problems Android faced. Ultimately, this may mean that Android lovers will have to live with such ‘minute’ lags for as long as Android exists.

Android 4.0 is Google’s attempt at simplicity. However, I felt that Google made a design flaw with the OS. They should have kept the Menu button, instead of the back button. Currently, the back button minimises the current app to the background. I honestly preferred this to be a menu button instead. The home button should have done what the back button is currently doing.

Application sharing is one of the strong points of Android. With a normal Android phone, pressing the menu button (while you’re in a browser or photo gallery) launches the sharing functions and this lets you share your content on Facebook or Twitter. With Android 4.0, sharing gets a little bit tricky. For example, in the Browser, the sharing function is located in the settings – which unfortunately, is located on the top right of the screen. So much for one handed web browsing…

Also, this ‘settings’ button (the one that looks like 3 little bullets lined up like a colon) isn’t executed right. Occasionally, this button is on the top, and at other times, it appears on the bottom. The lack of consistency where this button is placed makes it hard to navigate – especially when the menu button has been given the boot. I find this frustrating whenever I attempted to access the settings and sharing functions.

The multitasking button is a big welcome in an app saturated world. However, at times I wished it to be as simple as TouchWiz or HTC Sense where I could just kill all the apps running in the background with one simple touch. The fact that the back button pushes apps to the background seems to make it necessary for a ‘one touch, kill all apps’ feature within the multitasking page, instead of killing apps one by one, which proves to be a pain, when you have 10-15 apps running at the same time. Although Android 4.0 proves to be running competently with that many apps in the background, it would be nice to have something that tidies up the system quickly.

A Camera That’s Excellent For Macro

The Auto Focus function on the Galaxy Nexus is acceptable. I find the ability to go really closed-up on macro shots to be an even greater deal. On a usual Android phone, macro shots usually allows you to be around 15-20cm away from the photo subject, but the Galaxy Nexus allows you to come up to around 7-9cm away from the photo subject; allowing really nice and tight close-ups unavailable on other devices.

Photography on the Galaxy Nexus turns out to be more ‘mellow’ – with less contrast between darker and brighter areas. Shots from the Nexus are comparable with other Android devices, though the macro capabilities really make the Nexus camera shine.

Display, Browser, Calls

The Super Amoled screen on the Galaxy Nexus works well with the revamped ICS look. Battery life is great on the Galaxy Nexus as well, not to mention proper data management tracking capabilities built straight in the OS.

Calls are on par with other Android phone, although I find that the speaker/speakerphone to be a bit lower in volume. I guess the position of the speaker grill might be a problem. The browser is smooth and the auto sync with your Chrome browser makes saving bookmarks a lovable experience. Although the browser is smooth, it’s very mechanical. When scrolling, it does scroll smooth, but it comes to a screeching halt – unlike the browser on the SGS2 which flows smoothly until it slows and comes to a stop.

UI Graphics Are Good, Gaming Graphics Not So

The Galaxy Nexus comes with a PowerVR SGX 540 graphics processor – which performs very well on the homescreens even in the presence of a live wallpaper. The minute lag in the app drawer and widget drawer is there, but is invisible to the untrained eye.

When subjected to intensive 3D graphics and gaming, the PowerVR SGX 540 didn’t really perform as expected. I personally use Wind-Up Knight as my own benchmark for intensive 3D gaming, and on the higher levels of the game, the Nexus wasn’t smooth. I am not sure if the team at Robot Invader incorporated the right drivers, (it could be a texture problem) but the GPU could not keep up with the game. It made me wonder if this could be another area where GPU fragmentation could happen.

Third party applications are also not as smooth as I hoped them to be. Facebook for Android was one of the apps that had minute lags that disrupted the smooth ICS experience. It’s not a big deal, but it’s a pebble in the shoe that has to be dealt with.

Conclusion

There are many things I love about the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0. The new user interface is a joy to behold, apart from several quirks here and there. It’s polished, and is what Android is meant to be – fast, smooth and friendly. However, I can’t help but feel that unlike WebOS and iOS, Android 4.0 is still going through growing pains. It’s certainly one of the best devices out there, although I felt that it’s still living under the enormous shadow of the SGS2. Pure Google has been an eye opener, and strangely, it renewed my love for TouchWiz and HTC Sense. Although gimmicky, manufacturer UI does not seem to be a bad thing right now, provided it increases the functionality of Android, instead of hogging ram resources.

The Galaxy Nexus is brilliant for any newcomers to Android, but as a person who has handled close to 10 Android devices – it left me wanting. If you can live without TouchWiz and Sense, and some of the quirks I’ve highlighted in this article, this device is for you.

For me, I felt that the Galaxy Nexus (surprisingly) wasn’t my cup of tea. As I thought more about what kind of Android 4.0 device would appeal to me better, I felt it was something akin to ICS look and feel + TouchWiz functionality. Now, if only Samsung can keep me on the bleeding Android edge, on non-Nexus devices, I will be a happy man. Based on the recent UI look and feel guide released by Google, this might be possible soon.

It’s been a surprisingly busy week for Android as 2012 gets started in earnest. Much of the news from Monday and Tuesday came as the tech industry caught its collective breath, after the gadget smorgasbord that was the Consumer Electronics Show. For the best and brightest, be sure to check out or Android CES wrap up. You can see all our coverage of CES 2012, from this week and last, by visiting our CES portal. As for the rest – and that encompasses quite a lot this week – read on below.

As far as hardware goes, an encouraging number of new devices were spotted this week. The biggest (metaphorically speaking, of course) is probably LG’s X3, the likely codename for their new flagship. The rumored phone runs Ice Cream Sandwich on a 4.3-inch 720p screen. It’s very likely that we’ll be seeing more of that phone next month at Mobile World Congress. Tablet dreamers Notion Ink unveiled the second iteration of their Adam tablet, this time with upgrades in hardware and more developer tools. WiFi versions of the Motorola DROID XYBOARD are up for pre-order, and those who fancy more variety in their LTE smartphones will be happy to know that the LG Connect 4G has passed through the FCC with Verizon radio bands. While we’re certain that the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to AT&T in the near future, industry rumor indicates that it will be coming to at least two more US carriers, and that the Verizon version will likely be renamed the “Galaxy Journal.” Finally, you won’t want to miss our review of ThinkSound’s ms01 Monitor Series earbuds, a pair of high-quality headphones with unique wood construction and environmentally-friendly materials.

On the software side of Android, the biggest release this week was probably Wikipedia’s official Android app, which can now be downloaded for free in the Market. Shooter favorite Counter-Strike is now available in beta form, and high-profile games Temple Run and Reckless Racing 2 will soon be headed to the Android Market as well. In more wide-reaching news, popular Android modder/developer Koush has begun work on a CyanogenMod App Store, which he says will welcome all the legitimate apps that have been given the boot from the Market by Google, including tethering, emulator and root apps. We can’t wait to see what comes of this one, especially since it will be open to non-CyanogenMod users as well.

In more general Android news, the original Motorola XOOM got an official Ice Cream Sandwich update, while the HP TouchPad got an extremely unofficial one, courtesy of the CyanogenMod team. Speaking of older hardware, an early version of Samsung’s update for the original Galaxy S was leaked, showing their “Value Pack” of ICS-style features that are intended to mollify users upset that they won’t be getting the real McCoy. Meanwhile, HTC is updating its CDMA phones to get rid of Carrier IQ’s software, which caused both hardware makers and carriers a PR nightmare late last year. The EVO 4G, Epic 4G, EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G are among the first phones to be corrected. In the ongoing patent wars, Apple slapped Samsung with a request for a ban on 10 devices in Germany and another US lawsuit over the slide-to-unlock feature on the Galaxy Nexus. I guess no one told them that Google made that particular feature.

We hope you’ve had a good weekend, and we’ll return you to your regularly scheduled Android coverage tomorrow morning. Enjoy the NFL playoffs!

Your average smartphone is a clever little gadget (hence the name). They’ve become our music players, our cameras, our organisers. They even make phone calls!

It doesn’t matter which brand you go for, they all make our lives more fun, faster and generally just a bit easier to manage. But they all have one common enemy – the elements.

Yes, you can clad your prize possession in a chunky rubber case to keep the worst of it at bay, but it does tend to alter the aesthetics a little bit, doesn’t it?

But now, courtesy of? www.liquipel.com you can get your phone waterproofed and nobody will notice the difference.

Liquipel works by coating the entire phone, inside and out, with a water repellant “nano” coating. Once coated, they claim your phone will even work when fully submerged (although I won’t be trying that just yet…).

You have to send your phone to them, and it currently costs $ 59 US, but that’s surely a small price to pay when you consider the alternative.

CES 2012 was a huge event for many mobile manufacturers showcasing their new products for this year. Many of them proved to be quite heavy contenders with their awesome line-up of smartphones, tablets, and accessories for the coming months. CES 2012 also marked the end of Sony Ericsson and the birth of Sony Mobile Communications.

At the same CES 2012, the previously rumored Sony Xperia Nozomi finally made its first official appearance, with Sony’s introducing the device as the Xperia Ion for AT&T in the U.S. and as the Xperia S for the rest of the world.

If you have been a loyal Sony Ericsson Xperia fan before, then you’ll surely love the way Sony has still kept the Xperia branding on their two new mobile phones.

Although the Sony Xperia Ion and Xperia S are two totally different devices, they are very much the same in terms of features and specifications. Read on and find out our first impressions of the Xperia S and Xperia Ion.

Design and Display

Both the Xperia S and Xperia Ion are nearly the same devices. Although they don’t look alike, the two phones share a lot of similar hardware specifications.

The two devices are almost of the same size, with only a few millimeters difference. The Xperia Ion is 133 mm tall and 68 mm wide, while the Xperia S is 128 mm tall and 64 mm wide. Both are also nearly of the same thickness, with the Xperia Ion measuring 10.8 mm and the Xperia S measuring 10.6 mm. They both weigh 144 grams.

The AT&T Xperia Ion features a 4.55-inch touchscreen display cramming up to 323 ppi while the international version, the Xperia S, sports a 4.3-inch touchscreen display with a larger pixel density of 342 ppi.

Both phones have an identical screen resolution of 720×1280 pixels and use the same Sony signature trademark display technology, the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine.

Storage and Processor

The Xperia S and Xperia Ion come packed with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The only downside of the Xperia S is that it doesn’t feature a microSD card slot. The Xperia Ion has one that can support up to 32 GB of external storage. Powering both devices is a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 processor with Adreno 220 GPU.

Camera

In the camera department, both phones feature an impressive 12 MP camera that can take shots up to a maximum of 4000×3000 pixels and a 1.3 MP shooter on the front side for video calls. Previous Xperia handsets are known for their impressive Sony cameras. It will be little surprise if the ones on the Xperia Ion and the Xperia S would be anything less than great in quality.

Operating System

Both the Xperia Ion and Xperia S run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and both are slated for upgrading to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich within the year. Previous owners of Sony Ericsson Xperia devices will not need to learn their way around the interface, as the two devices sport the same familiar Timescape UI of its predecessors.

Conclusion

With Sony already owning Ericsson’s shares, it’s about time that the company shook up the competition. Both the Xperia Ion and Xperia S are Sony’s first dual-core offerings promising better performance in terms of speed and functionality. It’s too early to say whether Sony will succeed with its latest Xperia offerings, but it’s good to know that Sony is integrating its expertise in consumer electronics to the company’s pioneering smartphones.

What do you think of Sony’s flagship dual-core phones? Do you think they will stand a chance against other dual-core phones, or against the upcoming quad-core phones?

Having 500,000+ applications in the Android Market sure sounds amazing but do you ever get the feeling that you’re missing out on a hidden gem? The best way to discover something new is to simply ask your friends what they’re playing but pinging them on Twitter/Facebook every day could prove bothersome.

Well, Heyzap looks to make that process a little easier by introducing a mobile gaming community. While this may sound much like the many “app discovery” applications already on the market, Heyzap is different in that it allows for game-based checkins — similar to apps like Foursquare — so you always know exactly what your friends are playing.

The company has recently signed with 12 new partners to integrate their service into their titles. Spacetime Studios, PocketGems and Digital Chocolate are just a few of these new developers on board, adding to Heyzap’s growing list of over 800 mobile game developers.

If you want to give Heyzap a go, the application can be downloaded for free, right now, in the Android Market. If you’re a mobile games developer and want to increase your app’s awareness, you can also find the link for integrating Heyzap’s service in your own app via their SDK link below.

Proud owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 will have more reasons to smile as an all-new unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S2 is heading its way to consumers. The recent update follows in a timely fashion after the official announcement made by Samsung Electronics of staying true to its promise of giving its Galaxy devices a taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sporting a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM, the Galaxy S2 is certainly a worthy device capable of yet another upgrade. Taking its roots from the previous Android 4.0.3 ICS XXKP8 firmware upgrade, the improved version features various bug fixes from the latter.

For those of you who can’t wait for the official ICS upgrade to be released, then you can try the Android 4.0.3 XXKPA upgrade, but you will need to manually update your phone. If you installed the XXKP8 firmware earlier, you can also update to this version because firmware XXKPA reportedly fixes many of the bugs and issues in the earlier firmware version.

Although firmware XXKPA still has some bugs and issues, users have reported that most of the apps seem to work in this version. Touch response and the user interface are also reportedly faster and smoother. Battery life is also reportedly longer with this build, and it is more stable than the previous build.

Important Notes

The instructions in this guide are known to work for the international variant (handset model GT-I9100) of the Galaxy S2 only, but not for the U.S. variants (such as the GT-I9100G). You can check whether you have the I9100 model by dialing *#1234# on your phone and checking the model number.

This guide is also known to work for devices that are not network-locked. If your device is network-locked, the instructions may not work.

If you’ve rooted your Galaxy S2 previously, you will lose root access after upgrading to firmware XXKPA.

Make a complete backup of your current working system before updating your phone.

Keep the phone at full charge, or with at least 70% of battery power.

Instructions

Download the Android 4.0.3 ICS package that contains the needed files for upgrading your device such as the Odin application and other essential firmware files. Get the package here.

Extract the contents of the compressed package into a single folder on your computer. (Use software for extracting RAR archives, such as WinRAR.)

Run Odin.exe file on your computer.

Enable USB debugging mode on your device by heading to “Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging”. Make sure that there is a check mark beside USB Debugging mode.

Turn off your phone and reboot it into Download mode. You can enter Download mode by simultaneously pressing down the Volume Down and Home button keys then pressing the Power button.

Once the device is already in Download mode, connect your device via USB cable to your computer while keeping the Odin app opened.

After a short while, the ID: COM section of the application will eventually turn yellow. This means that the drivers for your device have been successfully installed and your device has been recognized by your computer.

In the Options section in the Odin application, make sure that only “Re-Partition”, “Auto Reboot”, and “F. Reset Time” are checked.

In the Odin application, click the tabs (specified in bold text below) and locate their associated extracted files that you have downloaded earlier.

PIT – u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit

PDA – I9100_CODE_I9100XXKPA_CL51925_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5

Phone – MODEM_I9100XXKPA_REV_02_CL1094591.tar.md5

CSC – GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXAKPA.tar.md5

Double check that you’ve loaded the correct files into their respective tabs. If you load the wrong file into a tab, you could brick your phone. So, double check.

After all the corresponding files have been matched, click the “Start” button in Odin for the installation process to begin. Once the firmware has been successfully installed, your device should reboot itself. Allow it to reboot completely.

Disconnect your phone from your computer.

Turn off your phone.

Reboot it into Download mode again.

Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.

Assuming that you didn’t close the Odin.exe application from the previous steps, click on the PDA button and select “I9100_KERNEL_I9100XXKP9_CL45181_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5″. Make sure that only this file is loaded. The other tabs (e.g., PIT, CSC, Phone) should not show any file loaded.

Make sure that only “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” are checked in the Options section.

Press the Start button in Odin to begin installing the new kernel. Once the installation is done your phone should reboot itself.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Ice Cream Sandwich on your Samsung Galaxy S2.

– January 21, 2012Posted in: Apple, iPad 3, NewsFeed

iBooks 2 has been dissected by specialists over the last day, as they searched for hints regarding the next iPad. Obviously, they found something, as you might have already figured out from the title of this article. I’m talking about high resolution images, that point towards a new tablet with Retina Display resolution.

Back in 2010 these “@2x” images were uncovered and indicated that the iPad 2 could have been released with a Retina Display, but in the end that was the iPhone 4. Two years ago such images were included by mistake, but now this is not a mistake, since the iBooks 2 app shows Retina-ready pictures, with the purpose of having them displayed on a new generation of iPad. These images would show correctly on a screen with a 2048 x 1536 resolution, one that I’ve heard associated with the iPad 3 on numerous occasions.

This is double the iPad 2 resolution and gets a PPI of 260, lower than the one on the iPhone 4/4S, but still very decent. This still qualifies as a Retina Display, since the viewing distance to the iPad is greater. It’s already becoming clear what the new Apple tablet will bring and now the question is: what else?

If there was one “must have” Android app ever since back in the G1 days, it was Google Sky Map. Used more as a way to impress friends or even that special girl as you lay on the hood of your car, Google Sky Map gave everyday Joe Shmoes access to stars and all of its wonders. With that being said — Google Sky Map is dead.

Okay, I should clarify a bit. Google has officially stepped down as head of the Sky Map project instead, open sourcing the app so that other “astronomy enthusiasts” can change/contribute, however they wish. Google also said that they will be collaborating with Carnegie Mellon University, who will see all future development of the app, by way of student projects.

The Google Sky Map team would like to thank all of our users who have taken the time to send us comments over the past 3 years. You tell us that Sky Map has helped you show off your phone, enabled you to see the stars when the urban light pollution or weather obscured them and even find romance!

Google Sky Map has helped my coax a fair share of dates into the mountains so that we could ” better view the stars” and for that — I thank you, Google. If you’re looking to get in on the open-source code it can be found, along with the app, via the links below.

If you had questions about the real update time frame of the ASUS Eee Transformer tablet, know that the slate will receive its portion of Android Ice Cream Sandwich in mid-February according to ASUS North America, that issued this statement in a comment on Facebook.

It has been a good start of the year, with the ASUS Transformer Prime receiving the update in January 10th, instead of the 12th, as promised. Then, over the past weekend the Motorola Xoom WiFi edition got it share of Android 4.0 action and now we’re counting down the days till Samsung decides to give its Galaxy Tab units from 2011 an upgrade time frame.

I have to remind you that the original ASUS Transformer was a great selling tablet, even reaching 400k units a month last summer. And I don’t see why not, considering this model came with a great keyboard dock, that also provided a total battery life of about 12 hours, great functionality, lots of ports and slots and all the options one can dream of. With the current issues of the Prime, I bet that some people would take the original Transformer with ICS over the quad core one.

Motorola is looking for testers, also known as a “soak” group, to test out a pre-release software update to help Motorola make sure the update is close to perfect by getting the update out to more people before official release. This is very common with Motorola, they begin by rolling out the update to a small “soak test” group then continues to roll it out to the rest of it’s users.

No world on what’s in this update, but I am almost positive that the Photon will be getting it’s first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich with this update. Maybe Motorola will surprise us and bring ICS to the Photon with this update? But as we all know any update is good, as long as it doesn’t bring more bugs to the device.

Hit the source link below to go sign up to be a tester for this update. What do you think is in the update? Just some bug fixes or maybe something more like an update to get your Photon 4G ready for the imminent Android 4.0 update? Let us know in the comments.

Notion Ink has finally revealed a little more information regarding their upcoming Adam II Android tablet. Apparently the slate will be powered by a Texas Instruments 4400 series dual-core processor, complimented by a PowerVR SGX5xx GPU and running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

In an unexpected twist to their announcement, Notion Ink will be featuring a slightly tweaked version of the OS using a restructured Modular Based Software Architecture. These “Application Authoring Tools” will give developers and would-be programmers the ability to customize apps via a new drag-and-drop system. Notion Ink explains,

“This System will help consumers, professionals and students become productive as they will be able to use the tablet as a logic analyzer, medical imaging device, signal acquisition and processing, 3D modeling and multi-media.”

Still no word on when Notion Ink Adam II will be ready to ship. Notion Ink mentioned in a video earlier this week that they plan to design many of the parts in-house, after learning from the company’s previous pitfalls of outsourcing.
