So Homer is back with us after a short stay with an adopter who wasn't prepared for the responsibility and time commitment of dog ownership.
Homer remains a sweet dog with a can-do attitude, who is very affectionate for his family members. Homer is a love bug and perhaps the biggest/strongest *leaner* we've ever fostered. He's housebroken, walks well on the leash and is ready for his forever home.
Homer would do best in an active home with plenty of attention and plenty of things to do. He's still got some puppy in him as he's only a year-and-a-half old, so he can get a bit rambunctious if he hasn't had enough exercise or attention. He isnt going to do well in any home where nobody's home all day. If you work extended hours or aren't home for long stretches at a time, you should look elsewhere.
Homer gets along fine with other dogs but we're not recommending him to homes with cats.
Homer likes walks and would probably make an excellent jogging companion.
If you think you'd be able to provide a home for this handsome and affectionate hound, give Denise a shout and she'll get something set up.

Here's Homer! And yes we're calling him that because he looks like a certain Simpsons character 😁 He's a beautiful, extra large (seriously, he's very tall) red fawn, who might be the most chill hound we have ever fostered. He is quiet and relaxed and is quite the love bug. He enjoys hanging out and being part of the family.
Homer walks well on the leash but he is a bit of a lollygagger, befitting his super relaxed personality. He does have a high prey drive in regard to rabbits, squirrels and kitties, so he's not suitable for houses with small, non-canine animals.
He gets along well with dogs of all sizes and could go into a home other hounds or be the only dog.
Homer is only a year and a half old and is just starting to show off his personality as he adjusts to home living. He's housebroken and eats (he does love to chow down!) well and sleeps well, too.
If you think this tall, handsome, and super chill hound is for you, give Denise a shout and have your paperwork ready because he won't be around long...

Here's Gracie and she's as good as, wait for it, wait for it, Gold!
Gracie is three-and-a-half years old and weighs about 65lbs. She is smart, cute, and very nice to be around.
She walks well on the leash, is house broken, and listens pretty well. This girl loves to eat and is very food oriented.
She's really starting to show off her personality the last few days and she has a marvelous one.
Gracie is not cat-safe and her prey drive is on the higher side. Those with small furry critters will have to look elsewhere, unfortunately.

That's a quick rundown on miss Gracie's qualities and if you're interested in meeting her, give Denise a holler and we'll set something up.

Kirby gets a mulligan

So here's Kirby. He got returned because he wasn't a good fit in his previous home. His former adopters completely misjudged his size and decided he was too big and rambunctious for their environment.
Kirby is a big old sweetheart with no issues whatsoever. He's not rambunctious at all despite what his former owners believed. He is super chill around the house. He loves attention and he is a serious leaner! He can be crated or left loose; he's been very well behaved in his short time here. He eats well, sleeps well, and gets along fine with our hound. He really, really likes stuffies and soft toys.
He's house-trained and listens well. He does need a little practice walking on the leash, as he tends to stray and veer but he's smart enough to figure it out with some repetition.
We haven't had him on steps yet but I'm not anticipating any issues there. He's not had any interactions with cats yet so I can't make a judgement on wether he's cat-safe or not.
Kirby is a handsome and sweet dog and should fit in immediately to almost any home.

Just look at that cute girl having fun! Sally is such a sweetheart and it's a shame nobody has come to see her yet. This girl is fun, sweet, loving, and smart. She's housebroken, walks well on a leash and generally gets along well with other dogs.

She is ready for her forever home and you shouldn't let her age get in the way. Yes, she's almost seven. Who cares? This cutie has a lot of love to give and you shouldn't deprive her of a chance to show it because she's a few years older than most of the hounds.

Sally will readily adapt into a household that currently have other hounds. She would be a perfect fit for someone looking to add another hound into their life with a minimum of fuss. Sally would be fine as an only hound if you're around more than you're away. She does love attention and does love to hang out with her human family members. One note: she is not cat safe!

You should come meet Sally ASAP if you're in the market for a very sweet hound. So give Denise a ring and she'll set something up.

This very pretty girl is Sally. She is almost 7yrs old and is a very sweet girl. Sally has a lovely personality and would be a fine addition to anyone looking to expand their hound pack. She would also make a fine companion as a single dog. She loves people and attention and she has gotten along well with the resident hound as well as other dogs who've come to visit. We're not recommending her to homes with cats as she has a high prey drive.
She walks well on the leash, listens well and is smart. If you've got some space in your house and your heart for an older girl please give Denise a shout and we'll set up a meeting.

The handsome fawn hound you see is recent arrival, Will Silver. He just turned 4-yrs-old on New Year's day. Will is a large hound and will probably weigh 85/90lbs once he fills out. Will is smart, outgoing, and curious. He definitely likes to get into things and places to check things out!

Will had a bad crash when he was on the track which resulted in some torn ligaments in his back left leg. The ligaments were deemed unrepairable so the leg was left to heal on its own. He has no issue using the leg, tho he occasionally picks it up while standing or skips using it momentarily. Again, he walks perfectly fine with all four legs and other than the occasional moment, it's not something that's all that noticable.

This boy has a wonderful personality and would be great in an active household. He likes and wants to do things. He's a little more active than most hounds and will need regular exercise and owners with a firm hand to keep his curiosity in check.
He gets along fine with our resident hound and should be fine with other dogs. He's not been cat-tested but assuming from the way he goes after squirrels and things, we're not recommending him for homes with felines.

The very skinny but very cute boy you see above is Trooper. Trooper is in need of some TLC, as he's underweight and a bit dinged up on a few places. After he regrows the hair on the back of his legs and eats his way into a few more pounds, all that'll be left are a few scars which we think gives him character.
Trooper is very sweet, but he's also on the shy side. He's not a spook by any means, but he's not confident about seeking out human contact yet. We've seen a change in his confidence over the few days he's been here and we're hoping to see improvement on a daily basis. As of now he would be a great fit in a home that already has a dog or two. He follows Radio, our resident hound, all over and takes his cues from him, as such he should transition nicely into any home with hounds in place.
Learning the ins and outs of home life has been going well - he has been out for some leashed walks although we haven't tackled steps with him yet.
We think Trooper will be one of those great, late bloomers that so many of the shy hounds turn put to be. And while we think he'd be better off in a home with other hounds as of now, that could change as he builds his confidence up.

Lucy is a gorgeous 3-yr-old brindle girl who is confident and sure of herself. She's only been here a couple of days but she already has the run of the house. She's had no issues whatsoever with adjusting to house life.
Lucy has been eating and sleeping well and has already learned how to drag all the toys out of the basket and spread 'em all over the room!
She enjoys walks and will probably be an excellent jogging companion. Early indications are that she's probably not going to be cat-safe. She's had no issues getting along with Radio, the resident hound, so should be good to go in a household with other dogs.
We got her to do some outdoor concrete steps and she handled them with ease. House-training is going splendidly, she's very smart and adaptable so she'll be ready for her forever home in no time.
She's a fantastic hound, so give Denise a shout if you're interested in seeing her.

Sam is ready to hit the road, folks. He's learned all the stuff he needs to know and is ready to walk out of our back door and march confidently through your front door! Someone is gonna get themselves a super companion with Sam.
Sam is fully housebroken, can do steps, walks well on the leash, eats well, sleeps well, gets along with other canines of all sizes, and is a fun, well-behaved hound. Sam is probably not cat-safe, however, so those with kitties should look elsewhere.

Just look at that face! How handsome is this guy? Sam will fit into a wide variery of homes, so please give Denise a shout if you're interested. I can answer any questions with a phone call. Sam's ready to rock if you're ready to roll him on home.

Yep, we've got another handsome black hound to place in a forever home!

This is Sam. He's 3-yrs-old and is sweet and smart. Sam gets along well with other dogs of all sizes. He spent his inaugural weekend with us in the company of Radio, the resident hound, a Jack Russell terrier we were dog-sitting, and my brother-in-law's mixed breed. Sam did fine with all three. Sam has rapidly taken to foster living. House training is going well and he's transitioning nicely into the daily routine. Sam should get along well in most environments, either as part of a pack or as an only dog. Sam does well in the kennel and he's just about ready to have the run of the house while we're out.

Sam walks pretty well on the leash and while we haven't attempted steps yet, we doubt they'll be an issue. We don't know if he's cat-safe yet, but he has gone after a few rabbits and squirrels in the back yard so we are leaning towards not cat-safe, but nothing's set in stone. Sam's only bad habit so far is some occasional counter-surfing. We're working on that and it shouldn't be an issue.

Those are just some quick impressions and as always, if you'd like to see Sam, please give Denise a shout and we'll get the ball rolling. He's a handsome fella with a nice disposition and is in pretty good shape for a hound just off the track. Oh, he's about 70lbs for those wondering.

This is Olie! His real name is Olaf but we're calling him Olie just like Washington Capitals Goaltending legend Olie Kolzig.

Olie loves toys and stuffies! He can amuse himself for long stetches of time by throwing stuffies around and chasing after them. He can also throw them in the air and catch them in his mouth before they hit the ground - pretty impressive!

He's got a happy, outgoing personality and would fit in well in an active home where there are walks to be taken and things to do. Olie loves activities. He's a healthy 2 yr-old and will be an average size male when he puts on a few more pounds - not a problem as he loves to eat.

He hasn't been cat-tested yet, but we're thinking he's got a pretty high prey drive so homes with small critters are probably not a good idea. He's only been here a few days but he's transitioning to household life really well. Olie has been a fast learner and should make the jump to his forever home with no problems.

Have we mentioned he's a real sweetheart? No? Our bad, he's a real sweetheart. If you're interested in this happy young hound, give Denise a shout and we'll set up a visit.

Nicky update w/pics

Sorry for the lack of info on Nicky, it's been a busy holiday season and we're just now starting to get back into normalcy.
Nicky has really embraced foster living the past few weeks. He started out as a skinny, semi-hairless, bag of bones with a crooked tail and a loud bark. Since then he's put on some weight, started to grow some hair back (you can see the lack of hair on his rear end in the pics above) and has rounded into a real sweetheart who enjoys family life immensely.
Nicky is housebroken and we're letting him have the run of the house. He was kenneled off and on the first few weeks but is now acclimated to the household routine and we've deemed him trustworthy to bebop around on his own.
He gets along well with other dogs of all sizes and does like to play with chew toys and stuffies. He's a work in progress on steps but has done fairly well on those with carpet, while being a bit hesitant on bare wood steps. He'll be fine with more practice, so no worries there.
Nicky is eating well, sleeping well and while still a wee bit noisier than your average hound, he's toned down the barking quite a bit since his arrival. We've had a few questions on whether he's cat-safe or not. At this point we don't know. We suspect that he could probably tolerate cats if introduced with care and monitored accordingly as his prey drive is not as high as some hounds. No guarantees, though.
Nicky would fit right into a household with other hounds or dogs and would probably be fine as an only dog if he's not left alone for long periods - so if all the peeps in your family are working/going to school 60hrs a week - Nicky is probably not the dog for you.
So if you'd like to meet this happy young dog and perhaps watch him bloom into the awesome family dog we think he'll become, give Denise a shout and we'll be happy to have you come for a visit.

In the spirit of the season, we decided to rename Major. So in honor of Saint Nick, we turned Major into Nicky.
Nicky will be 2 yrs-old in January and still has a lot of puppy in him which means he's still a little bouncy and energetic upon occasion. Nicky is very skinny at the moment and needs to put on about 10 to 12 pounds to fill out his frame. He eats with a hearty appetite and much gusto so putting on weight won't be a problem. He's also a bit of a barker - mostly when he hears unfamiliar or unexpected sounds, but he's doing so less and less as he gets acclimated to our daily routine. I suspect that his barking will not be a recurrent or long term issue, but even so, apartment dwellers may want to look elsewhere.
Nicky walks pretty well on the leash and is quickly learning his bathroom manners. He's been accident-free for several days now and has seemingly learned the routines. Nicky has not done stairs yet, though I doubt it will be a problem. He's a gregarious and inquisitive soul and takes to new things well. We've not had the opportunity to cat-test him yet so that status is still up in the air.
He sporadically plays with toys and seems to like stuffies the best so far. He sleeps well and has shown no health issues other than his need to gain weight. He's also missing a ton of fur on his back legs which should grow back in over the next few months.
Nicky has a really nice personality and readily accepts hugs and whatnot. Once he puts some weight on and his patchy coat grows back in he's going to be a real nice looking hound. He should do well with other dogs and he'll probably be fine as an only dog if not left alone for long periods of time.

Please take close look at this beautiful hound and tell me that you wouldn't like to have her in your home. Witty is a wonderful greyhound who's been waiting for over a month for someone to come visit her. A bit of bad luck has stopped folks from coming to visit, because I guarantee if you come to see Witty you're going to take her home with you!

Witty is ready to walk out the door and into your heart! Other than not being cat or small animal safe, she's totally ready to adapt to your home. She's housebroken, she can do steps, she gets along well with kids and other dogs. She can be crated or left out to roam around your house while you're at work. Witty enjoys walks and she does have fun wrestling and romping around with other hounds. She is quiet and very calm. I realize that some are hesitant to invest in an older hound, but rest assured Witty is worth every bit of emotional investment that you can muster. She's an awesome hound that deserves a home where she can charm your socks off. She doesn't realize that she's nine and neither should you! As you can see, Witty is still waiting patiently for her forever-home. As I've noted before, Witty is a super calm and very quiet hound. She'd be perfect for a family that's looking for a no fuss, no muss dog to add to their family. If you already have a hound or two, she'd fit right in. She gets along nicely with hounds and has reacted positively to other dog breeds as well. Witty is, however, not small-animal safe!

Wit-Wit (as we like to call her) is fully acclimated to home living. She's housebroken and does not need to be kenneled when left alone. She walks well on the leash and can do steps. Witty has put on a few pounds since she's been here and is in excellent health. In short, she's a fine hound and she has positive marks across the board. Do not let her age dissuade you from giving her an opportunity to win your heart and your love. She's incredibly deserving of a chance at a forever-home. Please give Denise a shout and set up a visit with this wonderful hound we've had the pleasure of getting to know for the past month.

Witty part two

Miss Witty has been patiently waiting for someone to come see her and take her to her forever home! Folks, this very quiet and very calm hound is ready to prove to you how great and satisfying older dogs are to have around. Witty should be able to waltz right into your home with very little acclimation needed. She's house broken, walks well on the leash, gets along with other hounds and most larger dogs. Witty does not like cats and other small animals, however. She has a fairly high prey drive so those with kitties and other small critters will have to take a pass on this very nice hound.

Witty does like going for walks, so if you're looking for a calm walking companion, Witty's your girl. Witty is generally reserved and is not a big licker and she doesn't really give doggie kisses, either. She shows affection by following you around accepting ear scritches and other petting. Witty is in good health and has put on a needed pound or two since she's been in our care. She likes to play with stuffies and whatnot in small doses, but mostly she's just happy with chilling out and hanging around.

if you're in the market for a no fuss, no muss hound who's happy laying around and doesn't require constant attention, please contact Denise and we'll set up a visit. This 9-yr-old is a super dog, please consider her for adoption if you're in the market for a hound.

That very pretty brindle hound in the above pics is Witty! She's 9-yrs-old and has just been retired as a brood mom. Witty is very quiet and laid-back - she enjoys napping in the sun, as you can see. She has a really nice personality that's just beginning to come out more and more as she acclimates to household life. She does not look or act like a 9-yr-old! She could easily be mistaken for 4 or 5-yrs-old instead of 9. Witty is a tiny thing and I'm guessing she doesn't weigh more than 55lbs at the moment. Witty has had some teeth extracted but she can still eat kibble with the best of them! She's also sleeping well and does pretty good on the leash. We haven't tested her on stairs yet and haven't seen her react to cats yet (we haven't seen any since she's been here), though she definitely wants to go after rabbits and other backyard critters...

If you've ever wondered what older hounds have to offer, now is your chance to find out! Witty is already housebroken and will not chew on your furniture. She's happy to go for a walk or a quick romp around the yard but will not need to be exercised aggressively. In short, she'll adapt quickly and calmly to a new environment. Give an older hound a chance for some love and give Denise a call if you're interested.

Winston wants to play!

If you're looking for a hound that enjoys running and romping around, Winston's got you covered. Winston still has a good bit of puppy in him which translates into a little more energy than you usually get from older hounds. Winston absolutely loves dragging stuffies around and and he often walks through the house carrying them in his mouth for minutes at a time.

Winston would definitely benefit from going into an active household with older kids/teens or other hounds to roughhouse with. Those with toddlers will want to look elsewhere; Winston is too big and boisterous to be around small children.
Winston successfully navigated steps last week and is learning to walk in a more reserved manner on the leash - it's a work in progress. Winston has a fairly high prey drive so we're not recommending him for homes with cats.
Winston is eating and sleeping well and is housebroken. He's also a fairly quick learner, though his inner puppy sometimes takes over. Although Winston sounds like a handful, he's really not. His energy comes in spurts and then he's back to typical hound laziness. As long as he gets excercise daily he'll be fine. As I noted previously, he's a bit of a barker when he hears things so you'll definitely be aware of people/animals approaching your area.

As you can see Winston loves his chill time just as much as his playtime. He's a happy, loyal hound who would love to play with your stuffie collection! Won't you come see him and be charmed by his love for life?!

That handsome hound with the white coat and playful attitude is Winston!
Winston will be 2 years old in September so he's still got some puppy in him that itches to get out from time to time. Winston loves to play and he's the classic greyhound stuffie distibutor. He'll completely empty a basket full of stuffies one by one and carry them around and drop 'em wherever he happens to be going. Then he'll go back and do it all again. A home with lots of stuffies and yard to take them into would make Winston a happy camper!
Winston is learning to walk on the leash and is getting the hang of it but he still needs some practice. He's one of the minority of greyhounds who is very vocal. Winston will bark and growl at noises and movement from outside his area so he does have some potential as a bit of a watchdog as far as alerting you to movement and noise. He's friendly to strangers as most hounds are though, so he'll be happy to watch someone cart off your jewelry once he's done barking :-) Winston gets along well with the resident hound and he does like to rough-house a bit so potential adopters with older, less exuberant hounds may want to pick a gentler type companion. Winston will be trying steps this week and we'll see if we can cat-test him but I suspect he has a fairly high prey drive from watching him so far, so I'm not thinking he's going to be small animal safe. He's eating and sleeping well and has done real well with housebreaking. He's a really fun dog to be around and he certainly makes you smile because he's so full of life (and a little bit of mischief)! Winston would make a nice hound for an active household and would probably do well as a jogging companion. We'll update later in the week, in the meantime call Denise if you think Winston might be a fit for you.

Jules has been adopted and will now be taking up residence in the Severn, Maryland area. We'll miss her spunky attitude and loving personality, but are very happy that she's found a new home to settle down in.
