24 hours in Venice, oh my!

2018-06-14T08:34:00.002-05:00

Off the beaten path of Venice we found this divine little neighborhood gem, our Bacaro. We hung out with locals and families taking a break after school. Is was so special. Besides restaurants and pizzerias, the typical Venetian eatery is called bacaro (pl. bacari), which is, simply put, a bar where they serve local foods in small portions that resemble of the Spanish tapas. They also serve good wines and beers.

Venice we love you and can't wait to come back and spend more time exploring your beautiful and mysterious city!

Our oasis in Venice!

2018-06-02T18:41:00.000-05:00

I felt like a princess staying at

Hotel Palazzo Abadessa

In the afternoon there is a free 'cake and tea' set up.. so sweet... and a lovey breakfast every morning. The hotel sits on a canal so you can arrive by water taxi. We walked to the hotel from the train station talking in Venice's beauty. You in the heart of Venice but this gem is tucked down a short corridor, an oasis of peace and beauty.

Palazzo Abadessa is a refined Venetian relais , recognised as a "Period Residence" by the Provincial Authorities and the Monuments and Fine Arts Office of Venice: the building dates back to the late 1500's with frescoed ceilings, authentic antique furniture, precious silk fabrics and paintings from the Tintoretto school.

The hotel had bubbly & chocolates waiting for us in our room.

The garden is one of the hidden treasures of this welcoming Venetian relais: secular trees, multi-coloured, scented flowers and marble benches on which to relax and read a good book.

Villa Olmi, Florence Italy

2018-05-10T10:35:00.001-05:00

Our trip to Italy in April was perfect in every way. We flew to Florence and stayed at the

Villa Olmi Firenze

Villa Olmi is an oasis just on the south east side of Florence. We could get to the city center in 15min, via hotel shuttle, taxi or city bus.

A perfect balance between history, the history that took place between the walls of the 18th-century Villa, and modernity in the services offered. An excellent compromise between the city - the historic centre of Florence is just 4 km away - and the countryside atmosphere evoked by the lush grounds and gardens that provide the setting for Villa Olmi.

Cast Iron Skillet, been around staying around.

2018-03-31T10:03:00.001-05:00

My parents used a cask iron skillet for everyday cooking. There were special rules about cleaning it. NO Soap. Put it back on a low burner to cook out any moisture--but don't forget about and burn down the house. All of that was pretty much worth it. The gold brown sear that you get on veggies & meat, from a cast iron skillet can't be beat. I am getting hungry now. A cast iron skillet is also a great item to have in your camping gear.

Cold Brewed Iced Coffee...the best ever

2012-06-28T01:15:00.000-05:00

I'm loving this recipe for iced coffee. It really is the best iced coffee I've tried. No need to spend all that money at Starbucks, when you can easily make this at home.

so here's the how to for my "new" favorite summer time drink...

Iced Coffee Concentrate
1/3 cup ground coffee (medium-coarse grind is best)
1 1/2 cup water

1.In a french press or jar, stir together coffee and 1 1/2 cups water.
2.Cover and let rest at room temperature overnight or 12 hrs.
3. Strain coffee into storage carafe

Iced Coffee
1. In a large glass filled with ice, mix equal parts coffee concentrate and water, or to taste.
2. Then add the good stuff if desired...sugar, creamer, etc.

...And if you have a little extra time on your hands, why not make coffee ice cubes. That way your iced coffee won't get watered down.

Room With A View...

2012-06-22T19:56:00.001-05:00

I love that the shelby lets me be a voyeur in an accetable way, but surely I'm not the only one who can't get enough of this site. I just love seeing how the other half lives.

I guess it's fitting that I stumbled upon this amazing Australian home, while I'm down under. I wonder if they'd let me move in?

Melbourne to do...get lost in the laneways.

2012-06-14T21:44:00.000-05:00

We spent the afternoon getting lost in the laneways of Melbourne...
searching for graffiti, and taking time out to find a hidden cafe, where we stopped to sip on flat whites.

Crochet Gone Rouge...

2012-05-13T23:04:00.000-05:00

We were pretty excited to stumble across the work of Olek, outside our home away from home, in the Bowery neighborhood of New York City. Do you know Olek's work? She's turned the girlie, chick hobby of crocheting into a renegade art form. She's been known to crochet anything that moves, or doesn't move...people, strollers, grocery carts, cranes, I mean anything!

Note the distressed look on Angela's face in this last photo. She's upset with me, for not letting her climb into the grocery cart. Since when has anything I said stopped this lady?

Good Evening...Good Morning... New York City

2012-05-06T10:07:00.001-05:00

Good Evening NYC...

Have you guys ever tried a beer or wine flight? It's a great way to try something new in a small quantity. Last night we popped in the new Top Hops Beer Shop, and sampled a few of their beers before dinner. You should stop in if you're in NYC, it's a great little tasting venue, and the guys are really knowledgeable. We learned about the Extreme Beer Fest in Boston...would you be up for bacon beer or what about kiwi?

Good Morning NYC...

Looks like Cinco de Mayo got the best of some people last night...it's a ghost town around here, this morning. Have you guys tried Cafe' Bustelo? Yahoo rates it tops, as one of the best coffees for it's value. I love that it's finely ground making a stronger cup of joe!!!

Courtney & Angela

today we begin set up for Accessories Circuit which begins tomorrow...see you at the piers.

Besides celebrating my Birthday "all weekend long", I'll also be helping host the Meridian Museum of Art's Murder Mystery Dinner Party. What could be more fun than...a birthday, murder mystery, and dinner parties!!!

See you again on Monday. Til' then here's what we're loving around the web...

Lawn Games

2012-04-24T21:21:00.001-05:00

Summer is the best time of year for lawn games. The weather here in Little Rock, AR has been divine, so it's time to breakout the badminton. For many years croquet was my preferred lawn sport, but then I remembered how much fun we had playing badminton as kids.

Angela

The aim of badminton is to hit the shuttle with your racket so that it passes over the net and lands inside your opponent’s half of the court. Whenever you do this, you have won a rally; win enough rallies, and you win the match.

The Best Ever Turkey Burger!!!

2012-04-23T23:02:00.000-05:00

Last night I was determined to make a great Turkey Burger, and I'm feeling like I've accomplished that goal. It may not top a beef burger, but it's definitely the best turkey burger I've ever had. The fresh rosemary makes it light and very fresh tasting. Perfect for summer!!! I hope you'll give it a try.

2.5 lbs ground turkey

1 TBS garlic

1 1/2 tsp sea salt

1 1/2 tsp course ground black pepper

1/1 tsp crushed red pepper

2 TBS minced fresh rosemary

2 green onions minced

hint: Try the Spice Island Trading Co.'s Indian Malabar pepper corns,
& Mediterranean sea salt grinders, from Sam's Club.

Mix all ingredients and make into 4oz patties. Cook slowly over medium heat, to keep from drying out. For an extra kick, I topped my burger with feta and red onions, along with fresh tomatoes and lettuce from my Grow Alabama delivery. Yum!!!

4 oz Burger + Bun = 310 calories

Any ground turkey recipes you'd love to share? I have another 2 1/2 lbs of ground turkey in the freezer.

DIY... Hula Hoop Rug

2012-04-19T09:50:00.000-05:00

photo

I'm a huge fan of folk art and fiber art, so I was thrilled to come across this DIY project. Can you believe that you can make such a cool rug using a hula hoop as your loom! Use old t-shirts (like all those I've racked up from races) or for a more sophisticated look use beautiful yarns and fibers. It does look time consuming so I might opt to use mine as wall art.

any ideas on what could be used to replace the hula hoop for smaller projects?

Instagram...Who do you love?

2012-04-17T09:18:00.000-05:00

timmelideo

Did you hear that Facebook just bought instagram for $1billion dollars. Imagine how much money that is when divided between 14 employees. Something like 71 million each... Wow that's BIG bucks!!!

This buyout makes me nervous, since Facebooks seems to be having challenges lately, and instagram is pretty near perfect. Let's hope things only get better.

So who are your favorite instagramers? I'd love to know!!!
