Coco definitely got her daddy's tastebuds (thankfully) Girlfriend killed a giant bowl of spinach salad the other night.

I turned my back for like five seconds and Coco put on my mascara. She actually did a pretty good job getting it on her lashes.

The current Starbucks cups are adorable. I wish they'd keep them forever (except for at Christmastime. The red cups are pretty great too.)

Coco's favorite new activity is climbing on the toy box and turning the lights on and off a zillion times. Awesome.

Strawberry, mango, pineapple, orange, almond milk smoothie. Sooooo good!

This girl has a future in fashion. Mark my words. I don't know how, or when but she will someday work in the fashion industry. She likes to layout a bunch of different outfits every night, while picking one out for the next day. She likes to mix and match different prints and colors, and she loves to accessorize. Her current favorite piece of clothing is the jacket she's wearing, and her favorite thing in the world to do is design new outfits using her Melissa and Doug fashion plates (thanks, Mel!) or draw in her Wonderful World of Fashion book.

On Sunday mornings we walk downtown. We hit our favorite local coffee shop first, then stroll through the Sunday farmer's market, and then we window shop, and end up at a big grassy area where we let the girls run around. Sometimes we have brunch. It's our thing. Last Sunday morning Leila asked what she should wear. I told her something casual. This is her version of casual....

Leila's Fashion Birthday Party

A couple weekends ago we had Leila's "Fashion Girl" birthday party....the birthday party she's been talking about around the clock for the last several months....the one she's had planned since the day after her birthday party last year. When Leila gets an idea in her head, you can't get it out of there until it comes to fruition. Just like her mama.

She was very specific about the invitations. Pink and white. NO black or gray. And she wanted "one of those things that you put clothes on at a store." Otherwise known as a dress form. My amazing friend, Jen from Top That! Designs came up with the beautiful invitations and a ton of coordinating party printables.

Leila knew that she wanted to have "hair" as an activity at her party. I asked her what she meant by that, and she said "You know, have Lindsay come and put pretty things in our hair?!" Obviously. So, my sweet friend and hairdresser, Lindsay (visit her at Belleza Cristali in Pleasanton if you live in the Bay Area!) came and put hair tinsel in the girls hair.

We also had a coloring table set up. I found some cute La La Loopsy coloring books at the Dollar Store, so each girl got her own coloring book that she was able to take home after the party.

Another activity highlight was the nail parlor. A HUGE thank you to my friends at Julep who sent all of the nail polishes. It was such a fun treat to have those salon-quality polishes to use, and at the end of the party each girl was able to take home the nail polish she had her nails painted with.

After some nail painting, coloring and hair it was time to eat. Food was also kept simple, and germ-free thanks to individual cups.

Drinks were also kept simple - pink lemonade and water. I loved the custom water bottle wrappers!!

After lunch it was time for the main event....the fashion show! Tony built a pink catwalk, complete with a blocked off "backstage" dressing area for the girls.

Girls were dressed in their most stylish outfits, but we stocked the "backstage" area with lots of dress up options, so that they could change as many times as they wanted and keep walking the runway.

After the fashion show it was time for dessert. Leila was firm on her dessert choice. Cupcakes, cake pops and a real cake. Oy. I was planning on making a pink ombre cake, but Gianna's hospital stay totally put a wrench in my party planning, and we had to settle for a store-bought cake and cupcakes. Oh, well. I did manage to make cake pops.

Then presents. Her friends were so sweet and generous and totally stuck to the fashion-theme.

Party favors were in a hot pink, glittered take-out box. Each girl got lots of lipgloss, chapstick, nail polish and other girly things. I'm sure some of the moms hated me for it. Ha!

Leila had a blast at her party, which I am thrilled about. 90% of the decorations that I was planning on making, and the food I was planning on baking didn't get done, but she didn't notice. When we were at the hospital I emailed everyone to say that the party was being postponed, then when I found out we were being released Friday night I re-emailed everyone to let them know that the party was still on. Leila was none the wiser :)

I want to say a huge thank you to Jen of Top That! Designs for all the amazing party printables (email her - she does custom work!), Lindsay of Belleza Cristali salon for the beautiful hair she did, Julep for sending the gorgeous nail polish we all enjoyed so much and Tara of Tara Marie Photography for taking all of the wonderful pictures. I could barely speak a full sentence that day, being on an hour and a half of sleep, let alone take any pictures. I'm so grateful she was there to do that! I can't believe my girl is five. Time is a jerk and really needs to slow down. She already has her party idea for next year. A luau. She asked if we could get sand from Hawaii and put it all over the house. I'm thinking no.

What WE Wore Wednesday - SF edition

On Monday, my mom took the day off work and I let Leila play hookie from school. We had a fun day in San Francisco to celebrate her fifth birthday. I didn't tell her until she woke up Monday morning, because I knew she'd drive me nuts asking if it was her city day if I told her any sooner. She picked out a cute outfit for herself, and she even picked out my vest :)

I don't know why, but I am slightly obsessed with"dangerous" accessories lately! I have this spiked bracelet, and whenever I wear it (which is just about daily) I get compliments, or funny comments on it. One lady taking my order at Starbucks noticed my bracelet, and said "Whoa, I'll be sure to make your coffee just right. Wouldn't want to mess with you!" Haha!

A health update on Gianna

If you follow this blog, or follow me on Facebook I'm sure you've heard me mention that my little Coco has been sick for quite a while.

On Thursday night around 10:30 she cried out "Ow, mommy, ow!" I ran into her room and her stomach was distended unlike anything I'd ever seen. It looked like there were red stretch marks on her tummy and it was hard as a rock. She was hunched down in pain, and holding onto her tummy. I called the after hours advice line and they told me to get her into the ER immediately. Tony was working, but he left and met me there. We were at our local hospital where they ran all sorts of tests and x-rays on her.

The only thing that would keep her (somewhat) happy in the ER was watching YouTube videos of puppies and kittens.

On her x-ray the ER doctor saw lots of pockets of air (extreme gas) and also thought there might be a blockage in her intestines. Around 3:30 am he decided that we needed to be transferred to UCSF via ambulance. UCSF has a world-renowned children's medical team and they wanted us there.

We arrived around 5am and were put in the children's critical care unit. They monitored her for hours, and around noon on Friday they moved us to the normal children's ward. (Much more cheerful-looking than the critical care unit.)

Poor Coco got only two hours of sleep Thursday night, and well into Friday. Once my mom got to the hospital late Friday afternoon she fell asleep within minutes. My mom has the magic touch.

After lots of monitoring, iv's, blood work, stool samples and very little eating for Coco they decided that we could go home around 5:30 pm.

The diagnosis (for now) is "post viral gastro". Basically since she was so sick for so long (over three weeks of vomiting and diarrhea around the clock) that her gut/intestines got exhausted and decided to slow way down. Therefore things aren't moving through her at the rate they normally would. We still don't know what caused her to get so sick for so long, and are waiting on one final lab result that could take up to a week to get back.

We had a follow-up doctor's appointment this morning. We are able to feed Gianna very, very small portions of foods hourly. We'll have another follow-up appointment in a few days to determine whether or not she needs further testing and imaging done with a GI specialist, as at this point the fear is that her intestines could be twisting. She's making good progress (had a solid poop - her first solid poop in almost a month!) and the vomiting has stopped. We're praying hard that her doctor will be confident that it's not the intestines twisting (there wasn't any evidence of that on the first x-ray) and that she was just being overly cautious in even thinking that it could be a possibility. Coco's in pretty good spirits today, and is hungry! All she wants to do is eat, eat, eat! It's hard to let her have just a little bit of food, but we know it's for the best.

Lulu is super into glasses lately. These are 3-d ones from the movies with the lenses popped out.

Seriously. She's super duper into glasses. I went to the goodwill and bought a bunch for $1 each. Popped out the lenses, spray painted them and added butterflies to some and flowers to others. These have butterflies on the sides.

How to print Instagram pictures on the CHEAP!

Instagram is an amazing, addicting app for the iPhone. Not gonna lie here - instagram was one of the reasons I wanted an iPhone so badly (my username is afdjewelry) I've taken lots of fun pictures with instagram, and was wanting to get some printed. I asked around on Facebook and lots of people recommended Postal Pix and Prinstagram. Both looked great. I ordered 30 prints from Postal Pix for a little over $11. Not terrible, but not cheap. The prints were 4 x 4 and pretty good quality. As much as I loved the thirty prints I ordered from Postal Pix I knew ordering all of my insta pictures at their prices just wasn't an option, plus I wanted smaller versions of the prints.

One night I was on Picnik, making a collage and I saw that there was an option to make a square-shaped collage with either 4, 9, 16 or 36 pictures, and an idea was born - I could make a collage of my instagram pictures!

Here's how you do it.....

1. Log into www.picnik.com and go to the "make a collage" section.

2. On the left you will see "Basic" for basic types of collages, and "Grid" (now, you do have to have Picnik premium which is $24.95/year but I have used it countless times to edit pictures and find the price well worth it. It's like photoshop for people who can't figure out photoshop!) Click on Grid, and you will see several options. Click on the third picture - the one with 16 boxes.

3. Under "grid" change the spacing from 10 to 5, so that there is more room for your pictures. I also change the color from black to white, but you don't have to if you don't want to.

4. On the bottom left, click "upload photos" (Be sure you've saved them to your computer first!)

5. Upload your pictures!

6. Save your picture.

7. Now log onto www.costco.com (if you don't have a Costco membership, you can do the same thing on www.winkflash.com) or any other site that offers 8 x 8 prints. Upload your picnik collage and order it as an 8 x 8.

Once you pick up or have you 8 x 8 delivered it will look like this:

Simply cut off the excess paper, and then trim each picture (if you have a paper cutter it would be super quick and easy!) and voila - a bunch of little instagram pictures for less than 10 cents each!

Here is a size comparison from the ones I ordered from Postal Pix and the ones I ordered from Costco. If you wanted bigger pictures, just choose a collage with 4 or 9 boxes (as opposed to the one with 16 boxes, like I chose.)

Great quality, super cheap instagram pictures that are easy to print. (Don't let the super detailed instructions fool you - once you make one collage, you'll be able to make more in just a minute or two!)
