A SEVEN-INCH SNOW "DUSTING"

After 70 mph wind gusts last night blowing semis and cars off the highways in the Denver area, weather forecasters proclaimed just a "DUSTING" of snow. At 5 AM we awoke to 5 inches of wet snow & by 7 AM we had 7 inches. So glad they didn't forecast a "snow storm".... HA!

We had parked in the "out-of-business Circuit City Parking lot" hugging the 4 foot berm and pine trees to block the winds from blowing over BLUE FEATHER.

It was not cold through the night..... but our computers needed electricity so headed to Chick fil A only a block away. Their sausage breakfast burrito with salsa is AWESOME! FREE SENIOR COFFEES & FREE REFILLS for all drinks make this a "home-away-from-home" for boondockers. Customer service is impeccable here. A mother & daughter chose to work from here on their laptops instead of driving across the city to work.

We are so grateful to have the freedom to choose what is best for us in any moment! That FREEDOM is a choice.... and we all have choices. Choose what FEELS BETTER!

WHAT TO DO WHEN GENERATOR WON'T START

Twenty degrees and NO GENERATOR. The cold temperatures froze the propane line in the generator leaving no alternative for taking the chill off the bed or motorhome.

I thought about the eskimos, and people climbing tall mountains, and campers sleeping in a tent with only a sleeping bag. Why did I need to be a wimp.

SOLUTION: Keep your clothes on and tie the hood of the sweatshirt securely around your chin. Put on an extra pair of socks and gloves and crawl under 2 blankets, a furry throw, a polyester comforter and a down throw. Pull the throw over your head to keep in your body warmth. Then take 4 TurmericCapsules for the aches the cold has triggered. Finally, take 5 Valerian Capsules to relax your tense muscles so you can sleep. IT WORKED.... slept "snug as a bug in a rug" all night long.

Morning and still the generator won't fire. That calls for a creative solution. Packing up soap, washcloth, towel, clean clothes, tooth brush and toothpaste, we head for Walmart's clean and warm bathrooms... almost like home! Now we're ready for the day.

Of course, now that the sun is pouring in the windows of the motorhome and there is no need for the generator.... Now that IT STARTS! Good to know we don't really need it to survive.

SURVIVED FEB COLORADO SNOW STORM!

The biggest February Snowstorm in 100 years hit Denver last week. Thanks to the electricity at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds RV Park in Golden, CO.....we were "snug as a bug in a rug"! On Feb. 3 we got 15 inches and on Feb. 6 we got another 4 inches. Sami loved it!

Snowstorms like this make one "GRATEFUL" for electricity, heat, lights, sunshine, and the power and beauty of Mother Nature!

Being "snowed in" for 6 days did cause a little "cabin fever" and reminded me of those long Michigan winters of my childhood. It's amazing how much one can get done ...and how many books one can read ...and how many movies one can watch when you CAN'T GO ANYWHERE!

But the sun finally came out and we were ready to roll back to civilization.... JAMBA JUICE.... AAA PROPANE..... the POST OFFICE.....KING SOOPERS.... the DOLLAR STORE... and BARNES & NOBLE. After 6 days of rest.... I AM EXHAUSTED! .... and waiting for the next snow storm... to rest again.

STAYING WARM

Temperatures plummeting into the teens tonight. What a wonderful opportunity to spend the evening hours in a theater where it is warm. First, we will see HAPPY FEET TWO at the Elvis Cinemas at 5:15 PM in Littleton $3.25 plus a free popcorn with a coupon I printed off the Internet. Then we will go to AMC Theaters to watch WAR HORSE at 9:30 PM.

Then, we fire up the generator in BLUE FEATHER.... to heat up the mattress pad and my Migun Pad and run the heaters for a bit before we jump into bed for a cozy night. If Eskimos can sleep naked in igloos in sub-zero temperatures, we can surely manage this.

We found that we can only stay at the State Park for 14 out of every 45 days for $17 per night with our ASPEN PASS. An Internet search found the JEFFERSON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS the same distance away to stay an UNLIMITED number of nights for $20 per night.

Most days have been more like spring with a few scattered cold spells.... and the sun shines most every day.... YEAH for SOLAR ENERGY! When the sun doesn't shine, we go to the MOVIES!!!

DUCK TAPE - "Don't leave home without it!"

Duck Tape is one of the necessities of life. Yesterday my sewer line cap cracked with the cold and ice so Duck Tape has held it together until I can get a new one today.

The dry, high altitude climate in Colorado has caused my feet to crack like never before. My Aunt Carolyn told me just the other day that Aunt June uses DUCK TAPE to tape her cracks shut until they heal. I will do that today as I have to work at Macy's again today and two cracks have developed on my heels. This was a new one for me. Decided not to put DUCK TAPE on my cracking fingers... don't want to look like the Edward Scissorhands of Macy's.

DUCK TAPE is being sold in vibrant colors now. Kids are using them for so many things: book covers, decorating their clothes, etc. I wish I would have invented this amazing product.
I do have an invention in mind that I am working on to solve a problem in retail... the "wheels are turning".

Over the years, I watched my Dad fix almost anything with DUCK TAPE. Now I keep a roll on hand. When you are BOONDOCKING, you certainly need something that will fix anything and DUCK TAPE does the trick.

We are GRATEFUL every day for DUCK TAPE.

GRATITUDE ABOUNDS

We survived a week of sub-freezing & sub-zero temperatures in Colorado thanks to Chatfield State Park, just south of Littleton. It is wonderful how grateful one becomes for the simple things (like electricity) when one has lived without it for so long.

For a week we have basked in the pleasures that electricity make possible in our lives - music, movies, heat, a Migun Pad for healing, a warm bed to crawl into at night because of the mattress pad, 24/7 Internet, a toaster, an oven, a hair dryer and a curling iron.

However, we are looking forward to installing solar panels and perhaps a wind generator, so that we will have FREE electricity wherever we are and whenever we want it. That will be total freedom.

Today it's back to "BOONDOCKING" which we love, using passive solar energy for warmth because the temperatures will rise into the 40s. It works so well when we position the motor home to allow the rays to pour in.

We are most GRATEFUL for the SUN and for LOVE....which is all we really need!

Who needs TV when you have breath-taking Rocky Mountain sunsets like these!!!!!

REMEMBERING THIS DAY: December 7, 1977 when my then 7-year old daughter, Christina Marie Warren was hit by a car while crossing the street on her way to school at around 7 AM on a cold, snowy Michigan day. The terror of that morning has been replaced with intense GRATITUDE....gratitude that she survived and has grown into a beautiful and talented woman and mother.

Have a GRATEFUL DAY! Have a GRATEFUL LIFE! And feel the joy of that GRATITUDE!

BLESSINGS OF RVING

We are grateful for Chatfield State Park (south of Littleton) and all it's amenities. Full-hookups are wonderful and at times more than worth the expense of $20 per night.... a little more than half what private campgrounds charge. A heated mattress pad, a Migun Pad for healing, and power to run the convection oven provide such comfort. Wi-Fi and unlimited electricity for watching movies and listening to the iPod are such a treat, too. Meanwhile the "house" batteries are getting a good charge. And SHOWERS.... nice hot showers.... and electric hairdryers in the park building.... and washers and dryers to do our laundry. We are so grateful for the little things.

When we are "boondocking" we are very conservative with our resources as batteries can provide only so much power and propane is $3.00 a gallon. When we get our Solar Panels we will tap into free energy and be totally "off-the-grid". We are looking into a Solar Oven, too.

So, these couple of days at the State Park are such a wonderful blessing. Just baked a cherry pie for Thanksgiving. We feel ready to hit the "boondocking" trail again.... refreshed.... IN GRATITUDE.

BALLY ANSWERS ANOTHER CHALLENGE

One of the biggest challenges in "boondocking" has been showering. For a year I have resorted to a daily sponge bath and a weekly shower at one of the rec centers in the area for $2 per visit.

On Sunday I was told about BALLY TOTAL FITNESS CENTER across the street from Macy's. They have an ongoing special for "out-of-town" guests. For $10 per week we have access to showers, lockers, jacuzzi for achy muscles, pool for swimming laps, and wet & dry saunas to hydrate my skin. The high altitude dryness has caused my hands and feet to peel and crack. Still have not found a workable solution. I am trying Avocado Butter next.

I started a part-time holiday job at Macy's last week in their "ladies better sportswear" department. It is great fun, but need to shower more than once a week. Bally's is perfect. In addition, the jacuzzi and wet sauna felt wonderful on my tired muscles after eight hours on the floor.

Now we know that whatever city we are in we can probably find a BALLY or another spa and get special "guest" rates. What a blessing.

DIVINE INTERVENTION

We decided that Chatfield State Park will be our home tonight as we face a sub-freezing night and snow. After getting hooked up to electricity and sewer I tucked the checkbook in my pocket and headed to the the self-serve fee station about 1/2 mile away from the D-campground. Lexie and Sami, tied together with a long blue nylon rope, happily ran between the pine trees, occasionally getting wrapped around a tree when they decided to go in different directions.

When I arrived at the pay station, I reached into my pocket to fetch the checkbook. IT WAS GONE!!! With all the trees and empty camping spots everything looks alike. Sadly, I knew the chances of finding the checkbook was slim considering the vast amount of distance we had covered.

St. Anthony has helped me, Mom and my friends, who have learned to call on him over the years, to find anything we have lost. So, I repeated the prayer: "Dear St. Anthony, I pray.... Please bring my checkbook back without delay. Thank You! Amen!"

I hoped he would lead me to the checkbook as the dogs and I headed back to the motorhome. Instead, half-way back to the motorhome my cell phone rang. "Is this Sharon?" a woman's voice asked. "Yes," I replied. "I found your checkbook," she said. I explained that I had just lost it, thanked her profusely, and then went to her coach to retrieve it.

Over the past 10 years, St. Anthony has helped me find dozens of things I have lost including car keys, documents, earrings, and shoes. This is confirmation that "we are not alone" and that Beings ON THE OTHER SIDE are there... ready and willing to help us with our Earthly dilemmas.

The next time you lose something, ask St. Anthony with this little prayer. It works every time though not always this fast. It does require one "letting go" and "allowing" your request be delivered. No Angel or Spirit can help us UNLESS WE ASK! So just learn to ASK with gratitude and trust.

Monday it was 80 degrees in Littleton. By Wednesday night we had 8 inches of snow at Chatfield State Park where we plugged in for 2 days. The sun is up and though it is 25 degrees outside, we are comfortable inside and it is beautiful. Temperatures are expected to rise daily now back to normal. We have showers, electrical & sewer hookups here.... a wonderful blessing for "boondockers"who have enjoyed a wonderful summer in Colorado and are looking forward to sunnier climes in the near future.

Life has a way of giving you blessings when you ALLOW life to unfold in it's own time. Learning patience and to live in the eternal NOW is the key!

Today.... I celebrate my father's Birth Day. He transitioned in 1995, but is with me in Spirit. Daddy taught me how to be an intrepid explorer. I can still here him say.... "I wonder where that road goes?"

Our love of food and cooking has been a delightful journey for us. Keith began learning to cook when he moved out on his own when he was 16. Influenced by both his Norwegian and Ukrainian heritages, he has developed a broad culinary repertoire. I grew up in my grandmother's and my mother's kitchens. There I learned everything from how to make butter from fresh cream............. to making home made mince meat, cookies, cream puffs, pies and breads from scratch.

Have you ever had trouble starting your engine? Well, yesterday morning the Littleton sub-30s-night-cold had weakened my cab battery in "BLUE FEATHER" and my house batteries were low, too. Starting at 7:30 and every half hour after, I tried to start the engine but the battery just didn't have enough "juice" to turn over. I opened the hood, hoping someone would give me a jump. I even dug out the jump cables as a hint. By noon, no one had come by.... so I ate lunch.

Then I thought.... "why don't I Reiki the battery". I had done Reiki on the engine... but the engine wasn't what needed help. I drew the Reiki Symbols on my hands and lay my hands on the steering column direction the UNIVERSAL LIFE FORCE ENERGY (Reiki) to my battery for only a few minutes.

I turned on the key and the engine started immediately and the engine was purring like my Toyota Sienna... which now has a new home. So... the next time you get stranded just close your eyes and direct UNIVERSAL LIFE FORCE ENERGY through you to your battery.... and VOILA!!!

I forget sometimes, that everything is ENERGY... and that every human being has the ability to channel that energy.

Our first year as a full-time RVer has taught us so much. RV carpeting is for show, not for living easily... especially with two Golden Retrievers. Our RV carpeting has to be brushed daily to remove all the golden fur that is shed 24/7 for 12 months a year. If feels like I have a giant teal green beast that requires daily brushing so we don't trip over the fur balls. And then there are the burrs, seeds and every kind dirt that comes in 5-7 times a day on eight furry feet.

We have been searching for an answer. We have decided on ALLURE Floating Vinyl flooring from Home Depot. The plank-style flooring looks like bamboo and can be cleaned easily with a microfiber padded damp mop or swept with our quirky hand-crafted broom. (At night I jump on my broom and look for black cats and owl feathers for fun!)

We can hardly wait to tear out the 13-year-old carpeting (don't want to think what kind of microscopic critters might be living in there.....UGH!) and add the new flooring within the next few weeks. No more brushing the carpet on my hands and knees and then vacuuming the dirt out, again on my hands and knees, with the $5.00 Dirt Devil from the Salvation Army Store. They can have it back. SIMPLIFY! SIMPLIFY! SIMPLIFY!

Evergreen, Colorado lends a blessed relief from the Denver summer heat. We were greeted by two hungry young elk as we drove into Evergreen on Thursday afternoon. They were munching on lilac bush leaves on the side of the road.

Walmart offers Free night-time parking and Starbucks provides coffee treats and FREE WiFi.

Labor Day weekend brings lots of mountain visitors... but we have found an empty Denver City/County Park, Bergen Park and the huge Elk Meadows Open Space for quiet places to photograph scenery, write, bead, walk the dogs and relax.
