What to Wear {Winter Photo Shoot Wardrobe Inspiration}

2012-11-16T11:01:00.002-08:00

I love all of the colors in this What to Wear Edition. It's interesting and bright! You can't go wrong with a photo shoot wardrobe like this one!

My Brand New Niece {Jacksonville Newborn Photography}

2012-11-16T10:53:00.001-08:00

I had the incredible pleasure of photographing my 5 week old niece, Grace. We have long awaited her arrival and are so very glad to have her in our lives. To say we are all in love, is the understatement of the year! I just love being an Aunt, and have the most perfect nieces and nephew. They are such blessings!

Grace's parents are graduates of the University of Florida, and are HUGE football fans. They dubbed her Gracie Gameday, since they arrived home from the hospital on a Saturday just in time for the big game. I see a whole lot of blue and orange in this little cutie's future (and maybe some red and black if I can steal her away for a few hours one day...hehe)!

Gracie loves the camera! Usually babies either sleep through a session, or they are upset by the big black contraption in their face. Not this girl! She was fascinated, which made for some awesome pictures. She looked straight into the lens and even gave me a few grins. From start to finish, she was unfazed by the photo shoot chaos around her, and the wardrobe changes. She was happy and interested...and I loved every second of photographing her.

Crystal and Jesse...thank you so much for trusting me and waiting for me to photograph this sweet little angel. I just LOVE her!

These are the other two babies in Crystal and Jesse's lives...their 10 year old pups, OJ and Angie, who are also loving and relaxed and incredibly well behaved! Sweet dogs!

A Coffeehouse Holiday Session {Stockbridge Holiday Photography)

2012-11-08T16:27:00.000-08:00

My first holiday session is in the books! I got to spend some QT with this sweet family at a little gem of a location. We met at HodgePodge Coffeehouse and Gallery in East Atlanta on Moreland Avenue. I have driven past this place a million times and have always been intrigued by the exterior of the building. It has cool, worn brick and huge garage door style windows. When I finally stopped the car and grabbed a mocha one day, I immediately fell in love. The inside is even better than the outside. The space also serves as a gallery for local artists and jewelry makers, so it is unique and interesting and colorful. To top it all off, the owners and employees are happy, polite and so very accommodating. We were all kinds of crazy during this shoot and they didn't even kick us out! The place really is something special!

I love that these are not your everyday Christmas photos. This family is as cool as it comes...so it totally works. Enjoy!

Please, please, please check out HodgePodge Coffeehouse and Gallery. If you're ever in the area, it is certainly worth a visit!

Fall Fun {Stockbridge Family and Childhood Photography}

2012-10-31T10:14:00.000-07:00

Last weekend, Kevin and I took the boys to Yule Forest 155 Pumpkin Farm to get our Halloweem pumpkin (that we still haven't carved). We have a tradition of taking fall photos at the pumpkin patch and I could not be more pleased with this year's results. The light was incredible and the colors on the trees were absolutely stunning! Plus, I remembered to hop in some of the shots this year...which never happens! I just love these boys...oh, my heart!

Hayden took the shot of Kevin and I above...not bad! He watches what I do, and has learned over time how to find the light and how to focus my camera. It is so funny to hear him directing us to get a shot. The photo of the boys walking away from us is another tradition. Here are the last 3 years' photos side-by-side...

They have grown so big over the last 3 years, but one this never changes. Hayden takes care of his little brother, and Colton thinks he hung the moon. I pray they always have that relationship...it is such a blessing to watch!

Happy Halloween Everybody! Stay Safe and Eat Lots of Candy!!!

The Patel Family {Roswell Family and Childhood Photography}

2012-10-31T08:53:00.000-07:00

I love doing family holiday sessions! This sweet family met me at Barrington Hall in Roswell on a chilly Saturday morning. We had so much fun exploring the grounds and trying to get little R to smile! After some big ornaments, a little bribery and a lot of reverse psychology, we got some great shots.

P Family, thank you for allowing me to spend a morning with you. I wish you all the best in the coming holiday season!

Little H's Fall Portraits {Sandy Springs Childhood Photography}

2012-10-31T08:43:00.002-07:00

I grew up with this little cutie's Mommy. I see so much of her in this little girl. She is happy, spunky and looks just like a little baby doll! I so enjoyed our session and hope I get to see her again soon!

Portrait Location: Morgan Falls Overlook Park in Sandy Springs, GA

The Patel Family {Atlanta Family, Childhood and Maternity Photography}

2012-10-20T10:46:00.000-07:00

I have been fortunate enough to work with the Patel Family several times over the past year. (see here and here). We originally had scheduled to meet at Piedmont Park, but it turned out to be Atlanta Pride weekend. I am sure those would have been some fun family pics, but we decided to take a more low key route and headed over to Canoe in Vinings. We could not use the restaurant because of a beautiful Indian wedding that was taking place on the grounds. But, there is this FABULOUS bridge right beside the restaurant, so that is where we headed! I must say, the bridge coordinated perfectly with the color pallet they had chosen and it was so quiet. It was an excellent choice (made by my lovely clients) and I think the photos came out beautifully! Patel Family...thank you so much again for choosing me. You are a lovely family and I cannot wait to meet the newest addition!

Photo Location: Canoe Atlanta in Vinings

The White Family {Duluth Family and Childhood Photography}

2012-10-19T14:08:00.002-07:00

This is such a precious family! I had the honor of photographing Baby C's newborn portraits 9 month ago (you can check them out here). First of all, it seems like yesterday and I cannot believe how fast time has gone. Second...C has gotten so big and is such a sweet, loving little thing. Big sister was not too keen on being a part of the photo session. But, I think that's all a part of her act. You will notice in the shots below, that she has mastered the art of what Tyra Banks' calls "smizing". She smiles with her eyes. Seriously, the camera LOVES both of these children! Thank you White Family!!!! I had a blast with you and can't wait to work with you again soon!

Shoot Location: McDaniels Farm Park in Duluth, GA

What To Wear {Fall Photo Shoot Wardrobe Inspiration}

2012-10-15T16:13:00.001-07:00

Cabernet, Chocolate and Orange...

This sounds like the beginnings of a yummy desert. But today, they are the color inspiration for another Fall edition of What To Wear!!! I love this combo, since it includes some of my very favorite colors. You will find these colors in so many of the trees in the South around the end of October and they make me one happy photographer :) .

If you like to go with a more traditional color pallet for your Fall Portraits, then this would be an excellent choice. It is still very traditional, but you can add some edge to it with great accessories, a fun scarf or a brown leather jacket or boots.

I am a little behind on blog posts and hope to have all of my sessions up from the past 2 weeks by Friday. If you are waiting for your post...I apologize! I am working away...I promise!

Love to You All & God Bless!!!!!

Holiday Portrait Sessions {Henry County Portrait Photography}

2012-10-12T08:39:00.001-07:00

I am beyond thrilled to announce this year's Holiday sessions and packages. The location may be the best part. Sugarland Christmas Tree Farm is near and dear to my heart. This is where Kevin and I cut down our first Christmas tree as a married couple. I will never forget that day...it actually snowed as Kevin was sawing away at the tree. Our very first ornaments came from Sugarland's Sugarhaus...the Christmas shop on the property (that also serves free coffee and hot chocolate to customers). While living in Florida, we were forced to buy our trees from Home Depot or Lowes. While our trees were always great, I really missed the "experience" we had at Sugarland. Last Christmas, we took the boys here to choose and cut down our tree. It was so much fun, and we spent well over 2 hours, just soaking up the fun and making memories. We even got to spend some quality time with Santa. Needless to say, The Burtch Family will be lifelong customers of this wonderful family owned and operated business. We LOVE this place!

I want my photography clients to enjoy the same type of family fun experience. So, when I approached Mr. Smith about using his farm as the backdrop for my holiday sessions, I was beyond excited that he said YES!!!! This year, I am offering holiday sessions and packages from November 24th through December 9th. I am open for booking Fridays (evenings), Saturdays (morning and evening) and Sundays (mornings and evenings). I have been given permission to start shooting prior to the farm's working hours on Saturdays and Sundays in order to avoid the crowds. I am offering two packages:

Package #1: $100.00

30 Minutes at Sugarland Christmas Tree Farm

10 Images In An Online Viewing Gallery

10 Images On An Image CD With Printing & Display Rights

Package #2: $135.00

30 Minutes at Sugarland Christmas Tree Farm

10 Images In An Online Viewing Gallery

10 Images On An Image CD With Printing & Display Rights

25 Custom Designed Holiday Cards Using Images From Your Shoot (Envelopes Included)

Please Note: The packages above involve you traveling to Sugarland Christmas Tree Farm in Stockbridge, GA. While this place is as AWESOME as it gets...I do understand that it will be quite a trip for many of my clients. I am willing to go to other locations, but will need to charge an additional $25 for travel and set-up for the shoot. But before you make up your mind, please considering the following reasons to make the trip:

1) A unique farm location/backdrop that you cannot find in the city.

2) It's a family owned business, so the customer service and experience are unmatched.

3) You get to cut down your own tree, and they are reasonably priced. Frankly, they are the best looking and longest lasting trees we've ever had.

4) They have a Christmas Shop (Sugarhaus) that has wonderfully unique decorations at excellent prices.

5) They serve free hot chocolate and coffee for customers.

6) Santa...Need I say more!

Here are samples of the cards I will be offering this year. They are fully customizable to coordinate with your images. Aren't they gorgeous? I just adore the vintage vibe!

There are a limited number of sessions available, and they will go quickly. I am sure you will hear many photographers say this, but it really is our busiest time of year. Really, it's chaos and I love it. But, you will need to act quickly to nail down your family portrait session. Please call (404-368-5680), email (bburtch@angelkissesphotography.com) or Facebook message (www.facebook.com/AngelKissesPhotography) today to book you session!!!!

*****As an added incentive to book ASAP, the first 5 clients to to lock in a spot will receive 25 of these beautiful address labels, that coordinate with the holiday card option.*****

Baby Shower Bliss {John's Creek Event Photography}

2012-10-11T12:31:00.000-07:00

I had the pleasure of spending Saturday afternoon with Kirti and all of her girlfriends as they celebrated the pending arrival of Baby Ari. This Mommy-To-Be has quite the support group around her, led by one fabulous sister! It is no secret that I adore shoot baby showers and parties. Somehow, I managed to find a career that allows me to spend time with people when they celebrate the happiest moments in life. It is a blessing! This shower was so full of love, laughs, tons of incredible details and sangria. All of the perfect elements for any great party (as far as I'm concerned)!

Kirti ~ Thank you for inviting me to capture this special day for you and your family. I wish you only the best for the remainder of your pregnancy. Kick your feet up and SLEEP NOW!

What To Wear {Photo Shoot Wardrobe Inspiration}

2012-09-21T10:23:00.002-07:00

What should my family wear for our photo shoot? It's an age old question, and quite the source of anxiety for a lot of clients. We want to coordinate, but not be too matchy-matchy...right? What colors work best? What is everyone else wearing? Do we want to be classic, or stick to the current fashion trends? These are all questions I hear before virtually every session. I hope to give you some color inspiration, and maybe some unique ideas for your photo shoot. Many of these items may already be in your closets. And if not, they are easily accessible in stores like The Gap and Old Navy.

For instance, my first feature is using cool colors, in lieu of the reds, oranges and golds that people tend to associate with Fall. Different...but fun and equally appropriate for this time of year. Notice the color pallet and how the outfits all coordinate, but also provide a distinctive "look" for each person. All items come from The Gap, Old Navy and Piperlime.com. I hope this gets the creative juices flowing!

Happy Friday Everyone. Have a Wonderful Weekend!!!!!

A Boy & His Dog {Rock The Shot September Photo Challenge}

2012-09-20T16:43:00.000-07:00

I was checking out my favorite photography blog, Rock The Shot today and noticed that the monthly photo challenge subject is "Pets". I just so happened to have snapped the shots of my pups just prior to viewing the blog post and decided to join in on the fun!

I adore this image of my 5 year old loving on his puppy. This dog is so loyal and provides so much love and attention for my boys. Sweet memories!

This shot was taken with my Nikon D90 and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens, using natural light from a window. I processed the image in PSE 8, using my own b/w action, along with Florabella's Classic Film (w/ Lighten toned down to 5%) and Blue Ginger (at 5% opacity).

My Furry Babies (Stockbridge Pet Photography}

2012-09-20T15:49:00.001-07:00

I happen to be one of "those people" who believe that a house is not a home unless you have a few 4 legged creatures running around. A lot of people don't understand that frame of mind, but I just adore animals and would have a menagerie if my husband would let me. He pretends that he "tolerates" them, but he did recently come home with baby chickens in tow! Regardless of his opinions, Kevin allows me to have my pets, because he knows they make me happy. He's a good man!

That being said, my pups are quite elusive when it comes to the camera. Frankie is my old lady...She's 7, a Hurricane Katrina rescue puppy, who loves tennis balls and stealing human food from the boys at dinner time. She has always been a handful, but has turned out to be the best dog EVER (think Marley & Me). As far as photos go, she is SO over it...as you can tell from the look in her eyes in the first image below.

Bella is my sweet 2 year old German Shepherd. She annoys the mess out of everyone else that walks in the door with her puppy energy, but will calm down long enough to climb onto the bed at night and pretend she's a (90 lb) lap dog. She has a good heart, loves getting her sister (Frankie) wound up in the backyard, rarely ever gets to eat her treats because she doesn't want to fight with Frankie for them. I have virtually no photos of her, except for shots taken at a distance. The camera scares her...she literally freaks out when she sees me with it. I've never seen anything like it!

Shots like the ones below are few and far between, so I wanted to make sure and document them. The girls were sleepy and both climbed onto the bed in my office for a nap, while I was editing. I, with the help of my trusty sidekick Hayden, was able to get some great photos of them both. I think they were just too tired and lazy to stop me!

The H Family {Hampton Family Photography}

2012-09-19T06:05:00.000-07:00

This sweet family just moved here from the L.A. area (as in California, not Lower Alabama). My family has been fortunate enough to spend some quality time with them at church, parties and play dates, and I am so very glad. They are a special bunch...and gorgeous too!

Roxana and JT - Thank you for allowing me to photograph your precious babies. I had so much fun and hope you enjoy these memories!

A Colorful Wedding Edit {Before & After}

2012-09-10T09:33:00.000-07:00

This photo was a fun...kinda moody shot...from the wedding I shot last week. We escaped some rain under the walking bridge in Piedmont Park (beside the dog park). Under the bridge there is this awesome, colorful painted wall and the bridge & groom wanted some shots with it as a background. Since we were under a bridge, and it was raining and cloudy, the shot came out pretty dark. With only some simple editing, the final product is exactly what I had envisioned.

Editing Process in PSE:

1) I adjusted the levels, lightening the mid tones and whites a bit. I also slightly pumped up the blacks to accentuate the shadows.

2) I saturated the colors on the walls and the green in the trees. The colors were pretty dull because of the clouds, so this added a bit of drama.

3) I used Paint The Moon's Baby Soft Skin (on a low opacity) to smooth the subjects skin just a little bit, and Twinkle Eyes to brighten and pop their eyes.

4) I then dodged the highlights and burned the shadows to add a bit of depth and dimension.

That's all folks! Pretty simple editing, but a HUGE difference. I am so happy with the final product! Thoughts????

N & D Say I Do {Atlanta Wedding Photography}

2012-09-09T17:07:00.000-07:00

N and D got hitched last Sunday, and I had the honor of photographing the event...well, sort of! You see, they had a private ceremony...just the two of them and their pastor. I love that!!! What a special moment they had all to themselves. I joined them right after their vows, along with a couple of friends to catch some photos to commemorate the BIG day.

N and D ~ Thank you for entrusting me with such a special occasion. It's such a privilege to get to spend time with newlyweds. I am such a hopeless romantic, and I just love days like the one I spent with the two of you. I pray that God blesses your marriage and that you live

Happily Ever After!

OK...so I had to include the next series of photos. As I said in a FB post, I LOVE a bride who will willingly hike up her dress and climb a small mountain of dirt just to take pictures in front of a wall of graffiti. This lady's my kinda girl!!!

What to Do, What to Do? {Before & After}

2012-08-28T11:07:00.001-07:00

I took this photo of my step-brother and his girlfriend while on vacation on St. George Island in Florida. It's a super cute photo, but the sun was going down and I didn't want to use my flash and blow out the GORGEOUS sunset. But in choosing not to use my flash, the foreground and my subjects are simply too dark. If I lighten/brighten the image in Photoshop, it's way too grainy. So, I decided to go the other route. In Photoshop, I adjusted the LEVELS, pumping up the blacks to make a silhouette. Then, I ran the Florabella Classic Color Action from the Classic Workflow Collection to amplify the colors. It's a great shot that packs a real punch of drama!

C's Superhero Party {Stockbridge Event Photography}

2012-08-24T07:08:00.000-07:00

*C* has a thing for superheroes...to put it mildly! He loves them all and has a costume for each of his favorites. By far, his favorite is Spiderman. His Daddy and I took that theme and ran with it, to create one super fun, superhero birthday party! Check out the photos from the event...Enjoy!

AKP Has A New Phone Number

2012-08-09T05:54:00.002-07:00

AKP finally has a new telephone number. If you need me, you can reach me at:

It's Fall Ya'll...

2012-08-08T19:54:00.001-07:00

Well, almost! School has started, but with all of this crazy hot weather, I'd rather be posted up with a cold drink and a fashion magazine right here...

In April, I decided to take a little unofficial hiatus from photography. I certainly wasn't burnt out...quite the contrary. Business was really ramping up and I was loving how busy I was. My decision came after considering 2 major life changes:

1) My husband started a new job in February. I really felt like my babies needed me and a little extra love while they adjusted to his new travel schedule.

2) This was going to be the first summer since high school that I haven't had to report to Corporate America. So, I took this time to live it up with my boys! It was awesome and such a special time for us and I thank God for it!

That being said, I am itching to get back at it! I have really been missing my job and the people that come along with it. However, in order to do this, I need to streamline and simplify. The following changes will take effect immediately:

Going forward, please allow 7 days for your online gallery to be posted. I want to provide you with the best quality product without sacrificing my family time. It's all about balance people! If you need a rush edit for a special occasion, please tell me ahead of time so that I can adequately prepare.
I will only be scheduling sessions on Saturdays. I will consider other days, but that will be on a case-by-case basis and will not be guaranteed.
I will only be sharing 1 or 2 photos on Facebook. Those photos will be heavily watermarked. I have heard from other photographers that photo theft is on the rise. I want to protect my clients and business. At the end of the day, I feel like this is the best way to do that. If you want to share more images from your session with family and friends, you can always share the blog post from your session, or give access to your online viewing gallery.
Last but not least...my pricing is changing. The current pricing seems to be causing quite a bit of confusion, as I have have had to answer a ton of questions. So, I am simplifying. The following packages are effective immediately:
