In God We Trust

This Thursday, May 3^rd, is the National Day of Prayer. . . a yearly day set aside to mobilize and encourage personal and corporate prayer. Following is a thought from Anne Graham Lotz to commemorate the day:

"Our coins say, "In God We Trust!" Isn't it time we practiced it?

"It concerns me when a nation shakes its fist at god and says, "God we want you of out of the schools, we want You out of our public life, our businesses, our marketplace." And God who is a gentleman, has quietly backed out of our public life. On this National Day of Prayer, we need to turn to God first of all and say, "God, we're sorry we've treated You this way. We invite You now to come into our national life. Isaiah 56:7 says, "For my house will be called a house of prayer for all national."

Make it your prayer today that God will wake us up. That a passion will be reignited in each of our hearts. A passion to see Jesus. A passion to share Him with a desperate world."

Here's to the importance of prayer . . . on May 3^rd and everyday of the year!

Peace

Sitting in church Sunday morning listening to my pastor's message, I was deep in thought as he shared that we walk with God by trusting Him enough to do what He says.

"Trust" is an area of continual growth for many believers . . . including me. The message was a welcome reminder of the peace He offers when we trust in Him.

And that's when I heard it . . . when the whole congregation seemed to hear it. It came unexpectedly and abruptly. The deluge of golf ball size hail plummeting the church roof was a jarring distraction from the message.

Isn't that just like a storm . . . to come abruptly into our lives to disrupt the peace?

That's what Anne Graham Lotz shares about in a recent blog post when she writes about how "as we journey to Our Father's House, from time to time we are going to encounter storms. Not just storms in the world, but storms in our lives. They can hit suddenly, without warning, and be very fierce in nature. Storms of death, disease, divorce, pain, pressure, poverty, bankruptcy, betrayal, blame."

Just as she does in her blog, Anne reminds listeners in "Daily Light For Daily Living," that we need but to ask Him for:

His peace in the midst of the storm.
His power to make it through.
His perseverance as we remain focused and faithful until we make it through.

The Sunday morning hail storm was intense but brief (lasting less than five minutes) and we were once again able to regain our focus on the message. And, as Anne shares about life storms, "One day the storms of life will be over. We will come to the end of life's journey, and we will enter into our Heavenly Home where Our Father will welcome us with a long, loving embrace."

Just for you.

Who doesn't like to hear that . . . especially around Valentine's Day?

I made this . . . just for you.

I bought this . . . just for you.

Though actually, I wasn't the only one the young man said it to . . . the Von's clerk said it to the next person in the check out and the next one. He was selling the new extra savings program from Vons. A "savings revolution" with personalized deals, club specials and if I signed up, a free dozen eggs.

While the new Von's savings program isn't really "Just for U," there is something even better "just for you" . . . eternal life through Jesus Christ. A love so deep and strong that He gave His life for you, me and everyone . . . yet, distinctly with you in mind . . . just for you.

That's the love Anne Graham Lotz shares about on radio in her short daily feature, "Daily Light for Daily Living," in her books, when she speaks and in her daily e-devotional.

She speaks of The Wonderful Someone in the February 14^th devotional message with reference to His many attributes from comforter to strengthener, and the promise from God found in John 16:7: "It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you."

She closes the devotional with the question, "Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to have Someone with these attributes in your life?"

And of course, as she points out, "If you belong to Jesus, you do have that wonderful Someone. You have the Holy Spirit."

And He is, Just for U.

Smiling All the Time!

Last night I shared Anne Graham Lotz's book, Heaven with our AWANA Sparks. Back from the Christmas holidays, it was a full-house of wide-eyed, inquisitive and yes, energetic little 1^st-2^nd graders who not only really enjoyed the book but asked and answered some very insightful questions during the counsel time.

My favorite was the little boy who responded to the question: What are you looking forward to most in Heaven?

His answer was a simple, "Smiling, all the time."

We closed in prayer with an invitation to place trust and faith in Jesus Christ. I don't know for sure which of our clubbers already have a relationship with Christ and which ones may have chosen to make a commitment last night, but knowing God's Word never returns void . . . it was an incredibly exciting night!

We may not walk around this earth smiling all the time . . . and yet, as this little 6 year old Sparky reminded me last night, we sure have a lot to look forward to and smile about in eternity!

On behalf of Anne and the ministry team of "Daily Light For Daily Living," a big thank you to station partners sharing these important daily reminders of what is important and all which we will have to smile about in our eternal home!

God Loves Little Children!

Our church's living nativity was different this year - I've watched the scene play out many times throughout the years . . . Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus in the manger, the angels and the wise men.

I'm always in awe as I witness the reenactment of the humble scene of Jesus' birth. But this year, my heart was also moved by a reminder of something else.

As Anne Graham Lotz shares in a devotional Bible Study on the ministry web site,

"Christmas is a celebration of God's gift of Jesus to you and me. The living Word became flesh! The Creator left His throne in Heaven, and came to earth as the Baby of Bethlehem! What a heavenly crescendo it was to the angels' song on that starry night so long ago...Glory to God in the highest...as the glory of God was made visible in the lowest of the low, a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. The Miracle of the Ages revealed in a Baby, leaving no doubt whatsoever that God loves little children!

I know God loves little children, but as my 9 year old daughter, a "Bethlehem townsperson," entered the stable and bowed down while the choir sang, "Fall on your knees and hear the Angels' voices," I paused.

I'm so thankful that my children have a personal relationship with Christ, but as I watched Rebecca, my heart was reminded how many children do not. And . . . more so, how important it is for every believer to help change that!

As Anne shares in her Bible Study . . .

Children are consecrated to God.
Children are called by God.
Children are cared for by God.

So, this Christmas, way beyond the last night of our Living Nativity, my heart resonates to Anne's reminder, "This Christmas, would you give the King a birthday gift He would love to receive? Would you bring a child to Him?"
