Today, I am going to invite you to become the leaders of the future – leaders who are full of love, compassion, purpose and creativity. If you really want to make a difference to the world, to the people you meet, to your friends and family, then this message is one of the most important ones you will receive.

Let me begin with Success.

Success as most people understand is about being better, achieving this and that, winning, and getting the best out of life. Success usually means having a big house, driving an expensive car, going on vacations to exotic places and living a lavish lifestyle.

While these outward appearances of success are worshipped and idolized by people, that is not the complete picture. When people only think of themselves and what they are getting, success hides behind its pleasant façade the ugliness of greed, hatred, and vanity.

When the sole purpose of aiming for success is personal gain – What am I getting out of this? How much am I earning? And so on – It becomes truly contemptible. It creates a rift in the natural working of the Universe, which is a seamless flow of energy with constant coming and going, giving and receiving, moving and flowing.

I would like to change the definition of Success from “Getting Everything You Want” to “Giving Everything You Can”. If you want to be the leaders of the future, you must change your paradigm of success from “How much you can get” to “How much you can give”.

This is true because a true leader does not use other people and their resources to become successful. A true leader always gives back to the universe what he has got from it. If the Universe has given him some talent, he will use that talent for the benefit of others. If the Universe gives him wealth, he gives it back and thus creates a channel to receive more from the Universe.

Giving is something that comes from the heart. It is based on love, compassion and a sense of community with the whole of mankind. Giving leads to a sense of purpose and fulfillment in life which does not come from simply earning a high status in life.

So the question is what must you give?

It is not necessary that you must give only money. You can give your advice and suggestions, your energy and motivation, your expertise and knowledge. When you give others freely of yourself, you open up the channels through which the Universe gives more to you.

Now let me say something about Leadership.

If a leader is bothered only about his own success and growth, then all the people who he influences will begin to be concerned about their own growth and success. And very soon, conflicts will arise. And this is one of the most important things to realize in today’s world.

A true leader understands that if at all human beings have to live affectionately with each other, the “Me” and “Mine” has to go. And therefore he sets a personal example by changing his approach to leadership and success.

So only when you begin to start asking yourself what you are giving back to people, you start changing your Success and Leadership paradigm which leads to greater harmony in relationships and mutual good.

1.“FREE” is a Business Model…that Makes Money!  In his book “Free”, Chris Anderson, the Editor of Wired Magazine tells you why “Free” works.  It’s not a marketing gimmick, but a business model that gets customers in the door.  Google and Facebook are great examples.   They are free so there are no barriers for people to sign up and they do in droves.  The company then makes money another way.  Get creative on how you can make money, but make it easy for people to use your service.

2. Build a stellar team first.  Working with the right people who are capable, dedicated and knowledgeable is the key to getting off the ground quickly with a great product.  Just because you can have something done overseas or by your brother-in-law doesn’t mean you should.  Besides your core team,  form a panel of advisors or have a mentor.  Choose people who have already had success doing something similar.  You’ll be amazed how many successful people are willing to help entrepreneurs in exchange for a free lunch.  They can help you avoid problems you didn’t know you had.

3. Solve a problem.  Build something someone wants.  If you’re not solving a problem or you’re solving a problem no one has, you’re wasting your time because no one cares.  At Snirk we knew that many businesses lost revenue from missed appointments so we build an appointment reminder  solution and the market responded.

4. Go to market fast.  The sooner you start making money, the better for everyone.  Better for yourself and especially better if you plan to raise investment money. In this climate it’s very difficult to raise money and if you’re pre-revenue you can forget about it.  Get your product out there as soon as possible.  Keeping your service in “stealth” mode because you’re afraid someone will stealth your idea and become billionaires before you is ridiculous.  If it’s that easy for someone to replicate, then it’s not a great product.  Keeping it in Stealth mode only means you’re not marketing and not making money.

5. Do your homework.  Learn all you can about your market, your competitors, your industry, the trends, etc.  There are a lot of great resources online so there’s no excuse for not knowing.  Especially if you’re looking for investment money.  Telling a potential investor that you have no competitors doesn’t make him think your product is revolutionary, it makes him think you haven’t done your homework.

6. Keep it simple.  Your product needs to be simple to understand and simple to use.  In this fast-paced world people don’t have time to educate themselves on what your product does.  If you can’t explain your product in less than 10 seconds, it’s too complicated.  Snirk helps businesses make more money by decreasing their missed appointments and filling their calendar.  If a visitor to your website can’t tell how you can help them within a few seconds, your message is not clear.  A statement on your website like “We’re the leading provider of value-added product enhancement services” doesn’t mean anything to anyone.
