Blog break

Hi everyone. I am taking a blogging break till
Sept. 1 Give or take a few days. There are
Just two many changes going on around here.

1. Superboy has some major dental going on.
2. Baby will be due end of Aug.
3. I have been having trouble posting on
Homeschoolblogger and I am so frustrated with it
that I am working on moving to blogger.
4. 2 of my computers are down and I will be
with out computer Access most of Aug.(which is
the big reason for no blogging)

There will be some big changes on my new blog
spot. I will go through and save a few of my
Favorite posts. If there is something here you like
you might want to write down the idea.

See you in Sept.

Outside my window-Our town is quiet. The sun is
shining and the day is about to begin. Hopefully
I have the energy to complete our daily tasks.

but he has been going from one issue to another

God has a Sense of Humor!!!

I am sure you are wondering what happened
to us this week. I usually blog much more than
I did. It was an interesting time for our family.
Plus I have been having posting issues.
I honestly think that God has a sense of humor.
I am sure he was trying to teach us some lesson
in there somewhere. Taking things as they come.
Trusting in Him. Laughing when theres nothing
left to do but laugh. Giving it all to him when
you want to fix it for yourself but know you can't.

It all started on Monday morning. I woke
to Daddy upset because his tooth broke off at the
gum. Pretty painful. If you know him you know
he hates dentists. So this was an upsetting thing
and never mind painful. I stayed home from bible
study that day to nurse him a bit . I also ran out
and bought some pain relievers and soft foods
for him to eat. You should also know that Superboy
is not a fan of dentists either. The next day
Superboy was quite moody. He took a nap here
and there. I didn't think much of it since Spirit
has just moved into his room with him. I figured
he was restless and keeping Superboy up. By
evening Princess came and told on him. He
had a tooth ache. Of all the odd coincidences.
I gave him some tylenol for pain and sent him
to bed vowing to get a dentist the next day.
I woke early to do some research since our
insurance just recently changed. Superboy is so
fearful I needed to find someone specializing in
children. Many times we have gone to a dentist
only for Superboy to get upset and the dentist
refuses to see us again. So we hunt another one.
This has gone on for years now. I don't think
he has ever had a complete exam at one time.
When Superboy came downstairs I was sure
I had to do something. Despite him swearing
it didnt hurt anymore his cheek was swelled up
like a chipmunks. With the help of my mom
we got him into a dentist that day under
emergency. Finally Superboy finished an exam.
He has an abscessed tooth. He was put on an
antibotic. The next morning was even worse.
His face swelled up that it began to squish his
eye. By evening I noticed a difference in the
swelling and was so relieved. It is horrible when
a child is in pain and you can't fix it for them.
I know a tooth is minor compared to some
things that occur in life but it was still hard to
watch him suffer though.

On top of all that after the dental appointment
we came home to boxes of school supplies.
Not a bad things just bad timing.
Princess went through them but they are all
still sitting here in boxes for me to review later.
Maybe tomorrow. Infact I just recieved an ups
notice and believe the rest will be here by Tuesday.
ugh and I still havent ordered our art supplies as
of yet. We are just about out of paper.

Thursday was my OB appointment for babies
check up . That is a whole other story. This is
the sense of humor part. Mom took the kids for
a sleepover even though Superboy was still swollen.
So I went alone. I stopped at the bank on the way.
When I went to leave the bank my window would
not go back up. Sometimes with these automatic
things these things happen so I hoped it would
go up later. I headed to the appointment. My van
lately has been interesting anyway. I park under
some trees along a curb. The birds have been
having a field day with my van. I think it might
be target practice. Anyway as I headed to the
appointment the sky looked sort of gray. It
began to mist a bit. Which wasnt raining in
but washing all the bird evidence from the van.
That was a good thing since the washer fluid
was out. I could finally see. As I went the rain
started to come down harder and harder.
When I got the appointment I ran in and asked
the receptionist for a trash bag as the window
still wouldn't go up. As I am putting this in
buckets of water drenched me. I dripped back
in and headed for the rest room to get a paper
towel. As I go a women heads me off at the pass
and I stand there dripping. Wouldnt you know
of all days the office is on time and they call
my name. So there I am sitting on the table
dripping on the paper. Oh and good thing is
baby is fine all is going well. When I got out
of the appointment the heavy rain stopped and
wouldnt you know it the window went right up.

I was so grateful the kids were at a sleepover
at moms. I needed some time to wind down.
I did some clean up and today, Honestly
I did wash and thats it. I almost forgot daddy
also got a letter for Jury Duty right when
baby is due. He is going to write a letter
hopefully he can do it another time.

So this evening I write to all of you and
say God must have a sense of humor. :)

For Today...

Outside my window-The sun is shining.
It has been a really nice day and is beginning to
wind down for the day.

I am thinking about ...
Cleaning this desk off. I rarely have it this messy.
Supplies are coming in left and right for school. Princess
wants to work in the new books now. I could only
wish for such enthusiasm all year long.

I am thankful for...
the cabinets being full. Its Nice to
have all of the shopping done. It is so much
harder being so near the end of this pregnancy. I
am a bit miserable and ready for it to be through.
I just have to hang in a little longer.

Black shorts and pink top.

From the kitchen...

Monday- Spaghetti and garlic cresent rolls
Tuesday- Fish and macaroni and cheese.

Thankful Thursday July

It has been a bit since I was able to
post on Thankful Thursday. I really enjoy
doing it but this week in particular had some
difficulty keeping posts and having them appear.
Not sure why but am Thankful they are finally
going through. This week I give you a simple
list of thankfulness..

I am thankful for my family and the help
my mom has given me with the children
when I go to the doctors. Mom and dad are
also running Heart to camp for me next week.
Thanks mom and dad. :)

I am thankful this week that we were able to
attend our local carnival. With baby coming I
cant travel which has put some sadness in the
childrens plans. Daddy took Spirit on some
rides. (the others hated them and don't like to ride)
I sat and played bingo mostly to have a seat
as I am getting tired more often as baby gets
larger.

I am Thankful for all things baby. We are
beginning to wash up and prepare for baby. All
those adorable pink items , boy the Dr. better
be right or baby will only have 2 yellow outfits. :)
It has been so long since we have had a little girl
around. I look forward to little dolls, pink bows
and dresses.

I am thankful for this time of preparations.
It is so helpful to me to prepare ahead. Prepared
youth group, easterfellowship and school lessons.
When baby comes I will have more time to spend
with her instead of spending it on preparations.
Organization is good.

Alpacas At the Library and Superboys at it again

Last week the library had some Alpacas
come to visit. The boys wanted to go and see
them. They were able to pet them, see a
weaving demonstration, learn a bit about them
and take home a small bag of fur. They loved it!!
Not so sure I am thrilled about animal hair all over
the house but it vaccums up.

You can see Superboy in the background checking
them out. Speaking of Superboy he doesnt cease
to amaze me. The other day in the car he wanted
to know if you threw a ball in the car would it
go backwards toward the back window because
you are moving or if it would go right up and down.
Of course I had to let him try. :) (Gravity and motion
at it's best)

Then again yesterday Princess was working on her
math book (higher than Superboys level) and had
a question. I don't know why I was surprised but
he went over to see before I could say anything so
I just stood and watched. He proceded to explain
the math in the book to his 12 year old 7th grade
sister. Superboy is going into 4th. I really need
to learn to stop underestimating him and Princess
doesnt seem to mind his attention.

Math for Preschoolers

In everyday activities preschoolers are learning
math skills. They may count out cookies or
sing a rhyming song with numbers and all
the while they are beginning their math skills.
Parents can add to that learning as the children
play. Building on what they already know.
Slightly directing their ideas.

Numbers- Children should begin counting,
counting out objects and recognizing numbers.
Here are some ideas during daily activity and
parent lead ideas to help you along.

Daily activity
-Read nursery rhymes with numbers
in them or learn fingerplays
-Count out napkins, cookies , crayons
or toys as you are playing
-count out cars as they pass your home
-count out objects in books during
story time
-Look for a special number in the store
as you are shopping
-Do exercises to a specific number
My daughter used to run around the yard
as I counted to 10 or we would count to 5
then I'd rocket her into the swimming pool
You can also count the number of times
your child is pushed on the swing.

Parent directed activities
-Purchase a preschool calendar have child
count the days and add a number for each day.
-Create a paper chain and add one daily counting
the chain each day
-when you hit 100 days have a 100 day party
(lots of ideas for this on the net)
-Here are also some games we created as
a family . Use your imagination. You can come
up with just about anything for a topic using that
item. Counting Chicks ,Polar Express counting ,
Counting M&Ms , Bean Bag toss counting , Apples Game ,
and Many Games for learning .

Geometry , Spartial relations, patterns-
Children practices drawing a shape and
learning about their properties.

Daily activity
- playing with blocks
Creating patterns with toys or snacks

Parent directed activities
- Sort shapes
- Play around with simple Tanagrams
-practice drawing shapes on sketch
boards, in shaving cream , or on paper
with different medias
- count the number of sides, edges, and
faces.
-Lego Patterns
- Create patterns with simple manipulatives
-Sort out socks and create a color pattern
- cut out clothing patterns and string up a
pretend washline clipping the clothing to creat
a pattern.

Measurement
comparing height
and distance

Daily activity
-Build towers and compare
-playing with cars as they line them up
-comparing their height to another childs

Parent directed activity
- Compare which item is larger or longer
-Count how many steps it take you to walk to
a toy or around your house.
- Use yarn to measure objects and cut the yarn
Find the longest item.

Analyzing Data

Daily activity
-sorting socks
-sorting toys to appropriate bins
-sorting coins from mommies wallet
(with supervision)

Parent directed activity
-Sort out like objects from a pile
-create a graph of likes from family members
such as favorite animal cookie. You can use
the actual cookies to compare.
-My favorite game for this is a game my mom
found called match-a-color at the beach. I wish
I could send you to it but I tried the company name
and no longer see it for sale. The base of the game
is a grid puzzle that children put together. There are
5 sets of cards. Each set is to create a different graph.
The lower number sets are simliar to graph. If you
happen to find this game it is so worth it. Maybe you
could write the complany and ask they are called
orda industries based in Isreal. Honestly not sure
where mom got this but absolutely love it and so
does Spirit.

Math Manipulatives-

One thing you might want to have on hand
are math manipulatives. You dont have to spend
tons of money to have them. These are items of
many that children can count with. You can use
items you have around your home. Such as snacks,
lids from soda bottles, match box cars, barbie shoes,
erasers, small christmas bows, jingle bells, foam
shapes, silverware, silk flowers, the ideas are
endless use your imagination.

For Today...

Outside my window- The sun is beginning
to peek out . It looks like it will be a lovely day.

I am thinking about ...
Again my wheels are spinning. Thoughts
of babies near arrival are on my mind. Things
I still need to purchase and what sort of baby she
will be. I can hardly wait. I am at the point where I am
ready and ready to feel normal again. Whatever that is.

I also have school supply shopping in mind since all
the sales seem to be up and going. Gotta hit Staples,
Walmart and Targets Dollar bin. :)

From the learning rooms...
Princess:

Superboy-

Math-Finishing 2 number multiplying
and moving into long division.

Reading what we like this week. Enjoying
books that superboy likes. This will be what
we do the rest of the summer.

Working on online book project. Almost
finished with his.

Spirit-
Playing and enjoying the outdoors. Especially
his sandbox.

I am thankful for...
Yard sales. Our community this weekend had
its annual yard sales. I found a homemade crochet
blanket for baby. Spirit hit the jackpot with little trains.
That fit his track.

I am wearing...
PJs, will head off shortly for shower
and getting ready for the day.

From the kitchen...

Monday- Salsbury steaks, mashed potatoes
and Veggie
Tuesday- Heading to the Carnival for dinner.
Wednesday- Bar-B-Que and French fries
Thursday- Stauffers pasta. Heat and eat. Easy week.
Friday- hamburger steaks with onions , baked potatoes
and veggie
