Yep, that’s right! It’s a long overdue book post!

And wow I didn’t realize it’d been quite that long since I’ve blogged books until I looked just now. Yikes. I’ve officially moved my reading list from WeRead to goodreads. My goodreads account is always linked in the sidebars here on my blog and you’re welcome to friend me! I’ve also set a goal to read a book a week & joined a group called 52 Books in 52 Weeks (link at the end of this post). OK, on to the books!

I’m currently reading through Stephen King’s books in the order they were written. Not sure how many of them I’ll read in this go round, but I’m really enjoying reading (& re-reading) them so far. These earlier Stephen King books are a bit dated in some ways but still excellent reads and spine-chilling-spooky! Love that.

I’m about one third of the way through The Shining right now. Danny (the little boy) is such a fascinating character! I’m pretty sure I read this book back in high school but I remember so few of the details it’s like a brand new book again.

I had to read book 3 of the Hunger Games series, Mockingjay, as soon as it came out. I so adore this series. I’ve read the series a couple more times since book 3 was released and I think book 2 (Catching Fire) is my favorite although I love all three. In Mockingjay the pressure on Katniss continues to build (I love her little rebellions) and the conflict with the capital advances to an actual war. I was devastated by what was done to both Peeta and Prim (don’t want to give too much away – post in the comments to discuss!).

BTW, if you enjoy Dystopia books as much as I do you might want to check out this list. I’m adding several of these to my to-read list!

Memory Keeper’s Daughter is another favorite from the last few months. This book really stuck with me and I expect I’ll re-read it when a little more time goes by. My review: A wonderful and touching story about perspectives, secrets and the consequences of our decisions even when made for the right reasons. The characters are beautifully real in both their flaws and strengths… especially David (the father). It’s a heartbreaking story in many ways but also so full of life and strength. I really loved this book!

Next up… the new Koontz book, What the Night Knows. Pure Koontz joy like we haven’t seen much of from him in the last couple of years. Truly an excellent ghost story style book that will creep you out and suck you right back in. The characters are interesting, the bad guy is heinous, and yes, there’s a dog.

I really enjoyed this book although I worn you from the beginning it’s not written from an objective point of view. It’s extremely anti-death penalty almost to the point of pushing you too far. However, Grisham still knows how to tell a great story and I really enjoyed that part of it. There are also some wonderfully written characters including the real killer.

I also dug back into Tami Hoag recently. I’ve been a fan ever since I first read Night Sins years ago and she hasn’t lost her touch. She has a gift for writing thrillers that grab you all the way through with fantastic characters. Out of the several I read in this round I particularly liked Deeper Than the Dead and Prior Bad Acts. Great reads if you like a good thriller!

More recent reads: James Patterson’s The Women’s Murder Club series books 1-7 and several Nora Roberts books. Nothing worth mentioning really LOL. Just easy books I can read while working and not have to focus too much. I will say Birthright by Nora Roberts is actually pretty good for romance.

One more… I re-read The Blind Assassin. Yes, again. I so love that book.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! We had a good time especially watching Tristan open all his presents. He wouldn’t open the next one until he had played with the toy he just opened so it took hours. I’m exhausted and lounging around tonight eating candy and leftover turkey.

If you’re a long time reader here, you’ll know I’m an avid reader. There’s not much I love more than a good book or story of any kind really. I just get lost in it. I just made several updates on my WeRead if you want to see what I’ve been reading lately.

One of the best books I’ve read in the last few months is The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards. That book just really touched me and I’m thinking of reading it again soon. I’m such a re-reader. This week I started reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and it’s wonderful so far. I promise a long overdue blog post on what I’ve been reading next week! OK, now spill! What’s on your book shelf right now that I need to read??
