I put together ANOTHER "quick" sketch of Scott for him to display on his blog. Scott took up journalism (a major at one time), during his Penn State college years, and loves to write, so I decided to throw this together for a sorta Happy V-Day gift!

Of course, he can put whatever he wants on the paper.

A brunette me!

I was doing research for Silver's class and I came across this photo of a girl, who really caught my eye! She looked so much like me in my younger years, but with darker features. I wish I had more of a straight on shot of my younger face to show, but this photo (at 24 yrs old) was all I could find to come close enough. I could not believe how this girl resembled me during my years at her age (late teens/20's).

Also, I find it uncanny that her one eye squints more than other, when she smiles, which my son makes fun about ME, when I do this in MY photos.

Her nose is exact...even the face structure and chin, lighter big eyes, dark arched eyebrows. Wow! I wonder if she is my long lost sister! :)

UPDATE: I found contact and name to the photo (Megan). I emailed her and she was delighted to hear from me, along with saying our similarities are quite eerie.

As we conversed back and forth, we found that both of our mothers have a dose of Welsh and English in our blood. Our differences are with the father's side, she is Hispanic and I am Italian/Lithuanian.

This stuff fascinates me and even when I draw live, I like to think about the nationality of the person I am drawing! Sometimes I guess on their nationality, and at times I am right on, but other times I like to question the person, so I can learn and study their anatomy features.

Color Paper and Pencils!

I made a recent purchase of all types of assorted colored paper, pencils and more and tried a very distorted cartoon attempt on my son. This is far from being finished and I plan to dabble some more with media, but my goal is to experiment, trying mixed medias and such, along with creating funny cartoons.

Update: My Uncle is not doing too well (Docs told him 6 mos and it is going on 7) so I put his boys together in a drawing to bring him some laughter. He's a funny man himself, so I believe he is going to enjoy this one!

Phun Philly Event!

I started drawing heads, but later had requests for themes, so I thought, "What the heck - go for it!" I aim to please! :)

One issue about themes is I do not memorize any body situation or have any plan. I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing, for I know many artists who practice with body situations. I prefer to conjure up the idea given to me, at the time, and hit the paper.

As you can see, golf was the "popular" theme for the evening, so I did several golf themes and went to town on different, fun ways to draw this theme with each of my guests. Mind you, I had to think and draw fast, so I had very little time to think about proper body structure and balance. I believe I need to work a little more on this, as well as my distance scenes, (mountains/lakes/trees, etc).

For now, I'm content on what I can do at a fast pace when drawing caricatures live.
Also, I need to make sure the photo taken is not "blurry!"

Dr Jeckyl/Mr Hyde

My second week with Silver was to design a Dr J & H of your own. I chose to create a 1960 Ivy League Student that transforms into a slovenly obese ale lover! :)

I actually learned something new this week with Silver's 2nd assignment and received my personal critique on my Fat Joe design from Steve. The critique that I received was exactly what I expected of my work, too.

Even though criticism is hard to take for some, doesn't it make one try so much harder? It does me!

I am only finished with my second week with Silver at Schoolism and I highly recommend anyone willing to learn character design to take this course. It is really worth it!

January Events

Unfortunately, my son took my new camera to see a famous comedian and left me with my old HP camera. Little did I know that the batteries would run out after taken 3 photos. Bummer! Yet, I felt a little more creative once I warmed up.
Many were laughing "with" me at this event.

Hi Ho Silver...Away!

I am now in my second week course with the famous cartoonist, Steven Silver's Character Design Class(again, a LOVELY gift from my husband) and I am really excited and anticipate his weekly assignments, and video classes.
I am a huge, HUGE fan of his style, technique and great character design skills.

Birthday/Rollerskating Event!

I tried a whole new set-up at this event. I spent much time mixing, creating and stewing my own colors (along with a touch of Angie's ancient-chinese-secret ingredient) throughout last week and wanted to try them out at this event. (Thanks Jan) I succeeded and I will be using these colors from now on (much easier use than the art stix).

Also, I used a different table/easel, in which I would not bring this to every event, but possibly a few in my future, since it does not fold into my carrying case. It does, however, fit in back my car perfectly and rolls on wheels. I do prefer this table over any of my other easels, because of the perfect height and table access for my art supplies, so you just might see me rolling it into an event in my future, especially for outdoor events.:)

Awe... rollerskating! I used to be such a big skating buff, so I was itching to throw down my markers and put on some skates and take off to the floor. In my younger years, my father or mother would drop off my 3 brothers and I to skate every week, so as I continued to go to the big ring every week, I use to love trying all sorts of skating stunts, (jumps, jumps with turns, along with skating backwards). When you have 3 brothers very close in age, you either learn to be a stunt person or you will be thrown into it eventually.:)

During this event, one guy working the floor entered the party room to watch my drawing performance, and announced to everyone that he remembered me from 10+ years ago when I use to skate all the time. I was surprised to see him at same job and location, after all these years, and that he even remembered me. He informed me that many of my cousins attend with their kids today.

This was a really nice and easy going party! Thanks Cheyenne and Chey's mom! :)

FYI: I like to take a few photos of my work to study where I need to improve and how much I have improved. I aim to keep growing with my art.

Theatre and Broadway!

Scott and I received a Secret Santa gift for one night stay in Philly to see "Les Miserables." I once was a theatre major in college and enjoy broadway shows, so I am looking forward to this day!
I made this for a quick thank you card for the Santa's involved, and thought I'd add the popcorn for a small joke!

Wine and Wither!

From the plane back to the US, I dabbled out a few celebs from a mag (bottom) and decided to digitize one (Winehouse) tonight. I'm sorry to say that I'm not very fond of her voice tone and style. I never did lean towards the hoarsey voice style singing of Macy Grace, either, and find the two singers are very similar. But that's just me. *grin*
I lean towards the sweet & pure strong voices of singers like McLachlan, McBride, Brightman, along with the top soul singers, Aguilera, Aretha, Whitney, and many more!

My other is an attempt at Reese Witherspoon. I find her a hard person to draw, but I didn't give up, for I need to face my challenges! I wanted to focus on her chin more than her famous forehead.

Best Cartoon Style Award!

Wow! I just returned from my trip to the Netherlands, spending much time drawing with many of European's finest artists. I attended a minicon, called CU 2008 in the town of Oosterbeeck and later traveled to Amsterdam where I stayed for a tour on my last day.

I surprisingly won 3rd place for Best Cartoon Style. There were so many great and talented artists and I learned very much by watching, listening, and practice, practice, practice! Since I tend to be more of a digital artist, I feel I need to take the time to practice with my live "color" media, so I decided to take a step and start producing more live studio drawings (on paper) within my future.

My wall (window) of art was designed with color copics/colored pitt pens and colored pencils.

Here are many photos of many friends, my art display and drawings. Also, I finally had the pleasure of meeting Marion at the Hotel Dreyeroord, when she stopped by for a visit with her son and daughter! She is an amazingly talented artist!

Mick did a fantastic Photoshop rendition of me! Thanks Mick!

What a great and adventurous experience! I had so much fun and laughter with EVERYONE!
I will post more photos, hopefully closer and clear photos, later this evening!
