I do love a donkey – these ones live at Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary which is a great place to visit if you’re ever in the area and a very good cause.

You can even go and visit them RIGHT NOW – spy on the residents, day or night, wherever you are in the world (and don’t blame me if you get addicted to the donkey cam’s, like me).

‘Enjoy the little things’ is one of my favourite sayings so creating this print felt very heartfelt.

I’ve also included below some actual photos I took with my actual camera! When you have to ration out your tiny packages of free time, the little things seem huge!

Things I haven’t done for ages:

• blogged! (sorry)
• read anyone elses blog (sorry)
• used Facebook (although this was deliberate – I was having strange feelings about it)
• taken a photo that wasn’t with my phone.
• travelled more than 10 miles from my house

Things I seem to be doing all the time:

• sitting at a desk
• designing and printing
• drinking coffee

Future plans aim to remedy all these things. It’s good to have a plan.

1. it looks ridiculous. On my beefy Canon 5D Mk II it looks like I’ve forgotten to put a lens on at all.
2. the actual glass lens bit of the lens is tiny – about the size of a 5p.
3. it’s not super fast – it’s f/2.8
4. it’s cheap – less than £100

However, when you use it it has special stardust inside that turns mediocre snapshots into magic – I can’t recommend it highly enough! This would be a great choice if you’re considering your first prime lens.

The end of the year is drawing ever closer, so here’s a template that can be used in Photoshop to create your own calendars. It’s ideal for showing off your photos of the last year, and a perfect size for sharing your Instagram images.

It’s designed to fit neatly into one of those CD jewel case calendars, although it will work just as well held together with a binder clip. Each page is 118.5mm x 137mm.

The Photoshop file has a layer for each month. Don’t have Photoshop? No problem. The zip file also contains high-res JPGs for each of the months.

Mottisfont is a 12th century Abbey that’s been added to over the years. I like interiors that are a mishmash of old and new, so when you have 800 years-worth of material to play with it’s bound to be good. I loved the stuff from the 1930s and 40s – it seems so near (yet so far away). Wartime Europe fascinates me.

And just when it I thought it couldn’t get any better, there was a huge exhibition of Lauren Child original artwork.

And the outside was obviously awesome – it’s an ancient walled garden in August. No contest!

So, a fabulous day was had and my camera was pleased of the exercise (as was I).

So, I grabbed my camera and took photos of the first things I saw in the streets not far from home. When you see photos of ordinary things and places that are so familiar – they can look so much more interesting. Not exciting but quite interesting. Especially if you’re using a lens that’s wider or longer than a human eyeball (eyeballs being equal to a 40-50mm lens). I took these with my 85mm lens.

So I took these photos. Then I needed a coffee so went back indoors again.

Here are some photographs of regular people going about there everyday lives from the time before Instagram (remember that)? I love these ones by Colin O’Brien – mainly from London in the 50s and 60s.

If you’re a notorious ‘can’t be bothered to look at the instructions’ type of person (like me) and you have an iPhone then you’ll love these.. er.. instructions.

I want to lie in a stream like this – wouldn’t it be marvellous?

I can feel some messiness happening in my near future – marbling things with nail polish!

This is a great – it’s a photo of exactly the same eye photographed with 100 different mascaras, so you can compare them really easily (and see that the cheap ones are just as good, if not better than the ‘premium’ ones). I like the look of number 72.

This old cemetery is at the end of my road a great spot to soak up the sunshine and get a bit closer to nature when you’re in the middle of a city.
