Apologies.

First, here's a really cruddy quality image:

Contained within is a complete Sega Mega Drive (also known as the Sega Genesis in the United States), along with Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Imported straight from Japan, I paid around sixty dollars for it,
and just as much for the shipping. It was worth it for a complete working system though!
More pictures with some of my commentary can be found at http://segachannel.net/sega/res/58.html
Now that I have a Sega Mega Drive, I can save some money for Rockman Mega World, also known as Mega Man: The Wily Wars. It's quite a rare title, and even harder to find at a decent price complete. Now to those who might be asking as to how expensive it may be, single loose copies can go anywhere from forty dollars to eighty dollars. Boxed and complete copies can go for eighty dollars minimum, and I've seen them as high as three hundred dollars. That was for a sealed mint copy, but dang...it's quite a collector piece for Sega fans, and for Mega Man collectors. Now there's a guy that's hacking the UK versions of the carts to use for the US systems, which is pretty interesting in itself. I hope he does well with it.

I may start a fundraiser thingy so I can try to purchase a complete Rockman Mega Word game, this is one of the very few listings out there, so I would need 199.99 plus the 7.00 for ems shipping :(

I can dream, can't I?

What are your thoughts on Godzilla?

Godzilla is just badass. For this post, I'll be going over Yahoo Domains, Godaddy, and Namecheap. All of them offer domains and whois protection, but it's the little stuff that sets them apart

Godaddy - http://godaddy.com/
This is probably one of the most well-known domain registrars out their due to their PR department. They feature over 60 top level domains, though for many of those you need to have a residential address in the country in order to purchase them. Dot coms cost 11.99 USD a year, so it's ok pricing. If I remember correctly, they include domain privacy for free for the very first year, after that it's an extra cost of 8.99 each time you renew, so it's a bit pricy to pay somewhere near twenty dollars to renew for each yeah. Their tech support can be spotty, as I've had good experiences and a few bad ones where the techie didn't know what they were doing. If you want to look over the bad side of godaddy, just google for "Godaddy" and you'll find NoDaddy on the first page. Please note that if you sign up through them, they will send off promotional emails constantly unless you opt out of it.

Namecheap - http://www.namecheap.com/

This company is a reseller who's parent company is Enom, who prides itself on affordable pricing. It currently offers 26 different top level domains. Dot com domains cost 9.98 USD a year, which is good for those who want to save a little bit of money when getting a domain. Domains overall are a bit cheaper, so it's worth the tradeoff that comes with having a semi-limited selection of top level domain extensions. Their form of whois privacy comes free for the first year, and only costs 2.88 a year afterwards. Having dealt with their tech support only a few times, I can only say that it's top-notch, and I hope it stays that way.

Yahoo Domains - http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/
This is useful if you have an account through Yahoo. There's a very limited selection of top level domain extensions that you can choose from, and they all cost the same price at 9.95 USD. It's good pricing, but the limited selection along with the dot info domain extension costing the same price, it may not be worth it. For those who may not be familiar with dot info domains, they're the cheapest domain available costing around 2.00 USD yearly at other registars. Domain privacy costs around 9.00 USD per year. I haven't used their tech support, so I have nothing to say about it.

That concludes my domains post/rant/thing, so if anyone is looking to register a domain, I hope this helps them a little bit.

Back from haitus, SEGAchannel

Took a few days off from blogging and then hit some real life stuff so I really couldn't post. Last year I was starting to get into Sega-related stuff quite a bit and I did some reading on Sega Channel. Around that time, I thought about making a Sega-based chan and had the idea of using the domain http://segachannel.net as it would go together better than "Sega-chan". It's concept is pretty simple, have a safe for work Sega-centric imageboard. I haven't had too much time to work on it except when I've tested some beta code for other sites, so here I am promoting it. For the most part now, email services have advanced to the point of sending all that fun stuff to your junk folder, but I still remember when that garbage was hitting hard and there wasn't much that could be done about it. I still remember when I had to manually turn on the spam filter for my yahoo account, it was back when one only had around 25MB of space or so for your inbox. Anyone else remember those days?

I eventually got an invite to Gmail back in late 2004, and absolutely loved it. It automatically filtered out the crappy spam emails! It was a nice change of pace using that since I've been using yahoo mail 3 years prior to that coming out.
Where does the traffic come from? Where my readers come from?

It's essential to know the sources of traffic. Then, you know where your effort should go to boost traffic to your blog.

The sources of traffic:

Your blog itself

Major search engines and Directory: Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL,...

External links

First thing first. Whatever techniques or tips you hear about how to bring traffic to your blog, don't get lost the foremost important thing: your blog itself!

Your blog itself should be something people like to read and like to link.

People are not waiting for you. They even don't know you. But they'll start noticing you if your posts cater their interest and they'll spread your blog to their friends. The quality of your blog is superior to any other techniques such as search engine optimization (SEO). But it seems some blogger apt to forget this yet the majorities are providing good blog. This is common sense, right? Nothing new, huh?

OK, here are four tips how to make your blog attractive:

Write something controversial, topical, and pithy. And make your blog title attractive but don't forget to include keyword in your title. The word "keyword" will appear several times in rest of post, meaning it's just important!

Write as frequently as possible.

If you just started new blog, write everyday. If your blog already have decent traffic, just keep on writing as frequently as you can. Both readers and search engines look for new information. You provide new information and they will come.

Write fresh content.

Don't just copy from others. This not only troubles you in legal matter but also makes your readers leave you. If you find less traffic comes to your blog though you write every day, check whether you're posting fresh content.

Fresh content doesn't mean that it should deal with brand new item. It does mean that new point of view, additional point of view, or even imitation of topic but filled with recreated content.

Provide internal link within your blog.

If you have related post to other post, link each other within your blog content. This helps your reader find more information out of your blog, stay with you longer and even come back to you again.
Furthermore, it is one of SEO techniques. By doing inter link you can have more back links, though they are less valuable than external inbound links. More technically it can be used to improve the page rank of certain blog. For example, suppose you have 5 related post, 4 have page rank 4 and the other page rank 0. If you want to increase that page rank of 0, you link all the other 4 posts to that post. It'll surely improve the page rank of the lowest one. But be aware that when you link back the higher page rank post may not keep the original page rank. So do it under your plan and do it moderately. Don't abuse this technique because search engines may consider you as a search engine spammer.

The bottom line is that moderate is always good.

In the second bullet, "You provide new information and they will come." Oops, it's WRONG! They don't come. They don't know whether you provided new information at all. You have to let them know you wrote new information. Get them to follow you and to add your blog to their feeds. Have links up for RSS syndication for blogs that don't feature a user registration system, that way they'll keep coming if you keep it fresh.

I'll be posting something for SEO, at a later date.

Mobile Phones!

Something a tad different from what I'm posting (oh wait I post different stuff all the time..), here's a short one on phones.

Now I'm sure that most of who's reading this has one, but what kind of phone do you have and how do you have yours setup?

Right now, I've got a Palm Pre Plus through Verizon, using their unlimited data/email plan and with the expensive $6 or so monthly charge for insurance. It's handy if the phone has any major issues aside from water damage. Back when I got it, there was a special going on for a free 5GB mobile hotspot for the term of the contract, so that's what kinda got me wanting to buy it. The $50 price point helped quite a bit too. It's a nice phone running webOS, but I've had a few small issues before. Namely, the sound and vibration completely died one day. Dunno what caused it, but I had to have a replacement sent in for it. Since when does the insurance doesn't come in handy!

Right now, I've been using my phone for calls, email, web surfing, downloading, games, and (of course) irc. The whole unlimited data with the phone helps with my limited bandwidth for my regular internet connection. Since the webOS is relatively easy to unlock, it wasn't much of an issue installing terminal and other stuff so I can shell into the phone and wget from fileservers. I feel like such a nerd :3

Grey area blogging?

So I've been thinking of starting up a separate blog that covers some of the more 'grey area' stuff, so I'll have to do some self-hosted thing should I go forward with it. Usually I just dismiss them till late at night, but I noticed that one of them was from Adsense.

Google AdSense: You have 3 working days to make changes to nekoarcnetwork.com

Please note that this URL is an example and that the same violations may exist on other pages of your website. As stated in our program policies, AdSense publishers are not permitted to place Google ads on pages with adult or mature content. This includes displaying ads on pages that provide links for or drive traffic to adult or mature sites. Please make any necessary changes to your webpages in the next 72 hours.

So after seeing that, I decided to remove the single ad I have on the mainpage. Hopefully I won't get any notices about it again. If they disable ad hosting for that site, it would make the 3rd site I own that was banned from adsense. Not a huge issue since I really don't get that much money from that stuff anyways, but it is a small bother.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for other ad networks I could use for sites for the SFW portions of my sites?

"The Future of Video Games"

I saw this posted a long time ago and from what it looks like it was written during the post-Dreamcast era and speculated about casual games. Let's give it a read, shall we?

I’ve recently been thinking about where video games could be going in the future. I’m hoping to work in the game industry one day after I’ve finished university study and I’ve been wondering about it a lot. What do I want to see happen in the future? Well I may not have too many answers right now, but I have come up with a few ideas that I think may come into ‘play’ in the not too distant future.

Firstly forget Virtual Reality, as we know it. They’ve tried VR goggles and they made a lot of people sick in doing so. It’s probably never going to work very well in its current form. They’re still around and you can still buy them but they really don’t seem to be taking off. It will probably take a lot to get people totally immersed and involved in a new form of game play. It’s threatening to lose touch with the outside world and the people around you aren’t going to appreciate it much either. The Sci-fi neural implants are also both a long way off and not likely to be accepted by a majority of the general populace without some severe marketing and luck. I for one am not planning on going through brain surgery just to have a computer attached to my head. In fact I never want anyone to able to plug into my brain.

A technology that was brought to my attention by a zealous presenter at the local ‘Science and Technology Centre’ (a sort of science museum aimed at making science fun for children and juvenile adults such as yours truly) is that of ‘Augmented Reality’. Augmented Reality is essentially the overlaying of virtual elements onto the real world, such as a pair of transparent glasses that can display certain elements over the top of what is actually there. I agree with the presenter in that this could indeed have some awesome potential. Forget all the socially beneficial applications such as workmen being able to view underground pipes before digging, think about it from a games point of view. This technology could provide gamers with the ability to run around looking like complete idiots shooting at things that aren’t actually there and that no one else can see, kind of like in the film ‘They Live!’ The upside to this is that it would be a lot of fun. A group of people from the University of South Australia created the ‘ARQuake’ project, http://wearables.unisa.edu.au/projects/ARQuake/www/, merging the classic shooter Quake with this Augmented Reality technology. Again, this technology may not ever become overly popular, but it would be entertaining to play with.

Technology has driven the games industry for a long time with new games always trying to keep one step ahead of the competition. It started way back at the dawn of technology and it continues to this day. 2D graphics gave way to 3D and 3D is becoming ever better. Graphics are starting to lose the ability to impress like they once did. The step between Quake 2 and 3 was amazing, but DOOM 3 while being visually very impressive isn’t leaps and bounds ahead of its competitors in the same way new games used to be. 2D graphics encountered a similar problem; there comes a point where you just can’t do much more with graphics technology. It is this that turns graphics from striving for technological achievement to becoming art. It is my hope that we will start turning away from tech demos and return to game play and making great entertainment. Games such as Zelda: The Wind Waker or The Sims that strive to show greater depth of character through simplifying the game enough to portray emotions will hopefully become more common (and more fun… but that’s just one person’s view…). Technology plays a certain part in the conveying of emotions and story but it’s quite hard to focus on everything at once. When technology is easier and less essential to game sales we’ll hopefully see an increase in games that cast a lasting impression.

Somewhat unfortunately the rise of the ‘Casual Gamer’ will probably lead to more simplistic games being released. While personally I would love to see depth of story and characters, there are a significant number of players out there who want to pick up a game for twenty minutes or so, have a bit of fun, and then put it down until another time. These gamers are generally less interested in the latest greatest technology and more interested in a ‘fast food’ kind of entertainment that satisfies the moment, despite the lack of quality or the lasting effects. Hopefully the two game types can co-exist peacefully although recently it has been seen that some developers are cutting down on some of the planned depth of a title in order to accommodate the more casual gamer.

As technology pushes forwards boundaries are slowly being broken down between systems. We saw the Bleemcast a few years back enabling the running of Playstation games on the Dreamcast, and the PC is able to run almost anything given the right emulation software. Consoles are able to emulate other consoles and new consoles are being announced that promise the ability to play PC games. The Xbox 2 is reported to have a model in planning that comes in a PC case and with the ability to run both PC software and Xbox software. Macs can emulate Windows software and vice-versa. We’ll probably start seeing less of a distinction between consoles and PCs as the price of technology continues to drop and consoles continue to become more and more powerful and able to compete with the more expensive computers. Ideally we’ll see a single platform come into prominence so that everything can be run without purchasing a copious number of different machines, although that does have a downside in that it can establish a monopoly for one particular company.

The technology price drop and increase in power has also lead to more powerful hand-held machines than before. Real games, not just simple toys are now available for the portable market. The advent of PDAs and mobile phones with the ability to play games raises awareness of portable gaming and new competitors are starting to get in on the field that was once primarily dominated by Nintendo’s GameBoy. There is a new product, the gp32, that can run many different emulators and hence, many different system’s games (including some PC games).

I can’t say for sure what’s going to happen but these are just a few ideas that I’ve had recently. Hopefully the games industry will continue to strive towards new heights with new and interesting game play, stories, characters and ideas. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in the next few years.

12 Reasons Why You Need a Blog

Found this across somewhere else on the internet and I thought I'd share with any lurkers out there~

Why Should I Blog? I Simply Don't Get It"

This post on a popular discussion forum set me thinking - and I came up with 12 reasons you should blog.

Read them and get started on your blog. Or better still, go get your blog up and running and THEN come back and read this :)

#1 - You Do Not Need To Know HTML

One of the biggest hurdles many hopeful website creators face is they don't know to design a webpage. Blogs overcome this - all you do is type into a box, and the blog software automatically converts it into a webpage and publishes it on the World Wide Web for anyone to see.

#2 - You Are 'Forced' To Keep Your Content Fresh

Blogs are essentially online diaries. It doesn't make sense to write in your diary every month or two. Similarly, running a blog itself 'forces' you to update it often. And refreshing your blog often makes it more useful to readers and consumers - and by extension, to search engines who are in the business of presenting *their* clients with valuable resources.

#3 - Your Blog Is AUTOMATICALLY Optimized For Search Engines

Search engines love fresh content. But that's not the only way blogs are powerful tools to rank high. Indeed, most blogs are structured to offer a high degree of search engine optimization.

All sections of your blog are linked together. The terms used as link 'anchors' are keyword-optimized. Categories can be created to host themed content. Navigating through your blog is intuitive. Archives can be customized, and generate hundreds of pages of content that act as 'search engine spider bait'.

#4 - You Get A Built-In Linking Structure

With very few exceptions, most blogs are structured to be a tightly integrated network of links - to other sections of your blog! It's quite easy for a visitor to get 'lost' within your blog... without ever leaving it.

Calendars link to posts on specific dates. 'Recent Post' listings point to your freshest content. Archives connect all your earlier posts. Search boxes let browsers look for certain kinds of content. And it all happens automatically, without you spending hours on creating a link structure or sitemap!

#5 - You Generate Multiple Content-Rich Pages

Every post you make on your blog is content. And by intelligently setting up your archiving preferences, you can turn each post into many different forms of content, each on a page of its own. Blog regularly for a few months, and you could end up having a 100+ page website - all filled with relevant, keyword-optimized, themed content!

#6 - You Can Keyword-Optimize Your Blog Extensively

All parts of your blog's template can be customized. And a very powerful way to do it is by inserting relevant keywords. It's a do-it-once job that will give you ongoing benefits for as the life of your blog. You can include keywords in your blog title, description, blog post headings, trackback links, comment invitations, archive titles, and category names.

#7 - You Create An Online Community

If your blog is on a specific theme, you can build a loyal readership and develop an online community. You can even take it a notch higher by tying it in with a forum or membership site. Ask for comments, suggestions, ideas and feedback, or invite reader participation. Pretty soon, your blog will be growing organically - even if you don't write a lot!

#8 - You Initiate Conversations With Readers

Of course, the first step is yours - to initiate a dialog with readers. You could do it with your blog post, asking a question or by inviting comments and interaction. Your blog will be read by an audience that's already interested in your subject or theme. This conversation will be priceless to you, the blog owner.

#9 - Your 'Inbound Link' Process - Trackbacks

Blogging is about distributed conversations online. Links are an integral part of such an informal network. Trackbacks are a kind of blog technology that make it possible - and simple! Your blog will benefit from the inbound links a trackback will bring, and you'll also get extra traffic from other sources.

#10 - You Can Syndicate Your Content Easily

Getting readers for your content is good. Getting your content out where many more readers can see it is GREAT! Syndication (via RSS feeds) is built in to most blogging platforms, giving you a quick and easy way to get a wide readership for your blog posts.

#11 - You're Creating Stuff Search Engines LOVE

Search engines exist to offer their audience a compilation of the best resources on a subject or keyword. Your blog is the answer to a search engine's prayers! By sticking to a theme and presenting the content in an organized, structured, intuitively connected pattern, your blog will be appealing to search engines in a way only a very professionally planned and designed website can ever hope to be.

#12 - You Get 'Alternate' Traffic Sources

Remember what we saw about blogs being linked and networked together? Bloggers like to share opinions with others. And when they 'talk' about you, they are going to point to your site, or a post on your blog, to show their readers what they mean. They become 'alternate' traffic sources - for YOU!

Other tools like blog rolls, furls, favorite bloggers and more can drive sporadic - but sometimes big floods - of traffic your way. And best of all, it's effortless and costs you nothing!

Not yet convinced? Well, then maybe blogging isn't quite your cup of tea. But if you trust me, try it - you just might be pleasantly surprised.

Insurance!

The other day, I received an offer from my bank going on about free Death and Dismemberment insurance. I haven't really looked into it, but seems to be a bit interesting. Free coverage for a whole year, with options of expanding it for a few dollars a month. I honestly don't see a real need for it, but it's free, so I may take the offer for it.

Along with that, it's about time for insurance enrollment and renewals for where I work. I currently have my dental and vision insurance through them and so far I've only had to use the vision insurance. Came in handy at lenscrafters when I had to buy new glasses, saved around 50% on the costs. I do need to find a decent dentist in the area so my teeth can be checked out (>.>)

The pricing for the health insurance isn't too bad, but since I already been using Blue Cross Blue Shield long before I got my current job, I have no real need to get it. Besides, it would cost me around the same price to get it through work, so it really wouldn't make sense to get it. In addition to that, I can get other stuff like various spending plans for family and medical, but I currently have no need for it either

RIP Gorfnets

after an oper went psycho and banned all the opers, gorfnets has been removed from the server links. if anyone has had any trouble, please reconnect to irc.tsukihi.me
Along with the Halo 3 maps, ODST includes a version of the Forge map editor[—a utility that allows player customizations of multiplayer levels.
ODST contains a cooperative game mode called Firefight, where players take on increasingly difficult waves of enemies in a timed survival game. Firefight can be played cooperatively with up to three other players via networked consoles (System Link) or Microsoft multiplayer service Xbox Live or with up to 2 players on the same console in splitscreen mode. Players start Firefight with only the Rookie as a playable character; completing the campaign mode unlocks other characters and maps. Players are awarded medals for making special kills, and individual and team scores are tracked throughout the games. Inside Firefight, players have a shared pool of seven lives, which are replenished after completing five rounds. Adding to the difficulty are modifiers called "skulls", which give enemies new abilities or a handicap to the player – the "Catch" skull, for example, causes enemies to throw greater numbers of grenades. Each of the first three rounds in a set activates a different skull. On the fourth set, all skulls are activated and the players must survive 60 seconds

So I'm just starting to play this online and it's turning out to be really fun. So far I've played Crazy King and Oddball. It's proving to be quite fun and challenging trying to get the control points for Crazy King, and a major pain in the butt to get the skull.
Requirements:
Creating a folder on your host.
A basic text editor (download Notepad++ because its awesome).
Uploading a PHP file to your host.

Make text file and rename it to rotator.php (make sure windows displayes your file types).
Now copy this code inside the file:

Save the file and upload it and some banners in a folder on your host (ie, www.example.com/banners/ ). Then change whatever you're referencing from the image to the php script.
