New this year: Japanese Culture Track Saturday

Anime North has teamed up with groups from the Toronto Japanese community to bring you panels focusing on aspects of Japanese culture including: kimono, kabuki, geisha, a follow-up on the post-earthquake recovery efforts, and a hilarious play about Japanese etiquette. Also, immediately following the etiquette play, there will an etiquette and general Q&A at 11:00AM. Panels take place in the Ottawa room of the Doubletree Hotel from 10:00AM to 5:00PM.

Community participants include Japanese Visitor’s Association (JAVA), the Japan Foundation, the Toronto Kimono Club, and representatives from The Kizuna Project.

Sunday Fashion Show

Just a reminder that the Fashion Show is taking place in the Plaza Ballroom on Sunday, May 26th, from 2:00PM - 4:00PM. In addition to the fashions we had last year — kimono, steampunk, lolita, gyaru — this year we have a new Designer’s Showcase for aspiring design students from the Anime North community to show off their work. Friday and Sunday Anime North admissions will be on sale at the door of the con; approximately 1,700 Saturday admissions will also be available.

Weekend/Group admissions for Anime North 2013 are sold out. They will not be available at the Registration Desk at the convention.

Cafe Delish and puriMeido

Welcome home, master. Join the maids of Cafe Delish as they take you on a tour of the traditions that have made these cafés such a phenomenon in Japan. Relax after an exhausting day of panels, shopping, and running around by enjoying irresistible desserts and beverages at our afternoon tea service.

And in the spirit of Japan’s famous purikura (print club) photo booths, Cafe Delish has created Canada’s, if not the world’s, first puriMeido (print maid) booth. For $5 guests can choose which maid they would like to take their photo with, wear a chosen prop headpiece & participate in their chosen maid’s signature poses or create their own.
