This morning during my neighborhood walk, I stopped short to admire one PERFECTLY manicured garden. It looked like a page out of Coastal Living! A freshly-painted fern green fence surrounded lush sea grasses, winding stone walkways with copper path lights, meticulously spaced shrubs and flowers of varying colors and textures.

Then I saw the For Sale sign.

Ah! No wonder it looks so perfect! This garden was likely just thrown in the week before – to show home buyers the great potential of this lot. Perhaps the current owner never knew the place could look that good!

We get our yards in tip-top shape for sale. We clean our houses when guests are coming. We beg the kids to behave well at grandma’s house. We wear great suits to our job interviews. And we look GOOD to out on the town.

Yes, we get “presentable” for other people! But how often do we do it just for ourselves?

Try it this week! Clean one room of your house as if you were the guest of honor. Or leave it as is and resolve that since it’s good enough for you, it will be good enough for any visitor. Wear something that looks and feels great – just to stay home! Teach your kids behaviors that you really value and that will serve them well anywhere, anytime.

Get “presentable” to yourself once or twice this week! Do what matters to you…and do it for your own approval and satisfaction only.

You’ll get a sneak peak at your own life in tip-top shape (and like that For Sale garden, perhaps you never knew your life could look THAT GOOD!)

I love waking up in California. The beach has an amazing effect on my spirit, so I try to take a walk down in the morning to see what the view has for my senses. Everyday it’s good to find that one image to wake up to that lifts your soul for the day. For some it might be their garden, for others it might be their grandchild or son, maybe it’s your Harley that you take out riding every weekend.

What’s your favorite morning vision?

This message greeted us in big bold letters across the chalkboard each session.

Everydayness, he said, was the monotony and routine and the attitude that we’re living just one damn day after another. Everydayness, I think he would say, equals another saying I hate: “same ol’, same ol”.

His smiling face and booming enthusiastic voice demonstrated his deep belief in it. From what I could see, he lived every single day as if he knew he wouldn’t live until a very old age. He taught the same material year after year, day after day….and yet everyday felt fresh, fun, and challenging – at least from where I was sitting.

Long out of college, this phrase still pops into my head. Yes – each day is a new beginning! Each day is full of great new ideas! Each day I’m lucky to be alive. There is nothing same ‘ol about today….when the sun came up for me, my body systems function perfectly without my asking, and I can choose the way I look and love my world today….and do it all over again tomorrow!

And everyday is an opportunity for us to do what Dr. Adamitis did: be ourselves and bring our unique and seemingly super-simple message to the people around us, making a positive difference not only in our lives but in the big world long after we’re gone! He is gone…and I have not forgotten.

I’ve spent the last hour in my sunny backyard exploring the world of blogging and setting up my account! Creating my new blog was #3 of 3 on my list of priorities set this very morning! And that made blogging seem so much more fun!

It’s a GREAT way to operate sometimes. You know, like having a glorious time energetically cleaning the house top to bottom when you’d planned to work on your tax return! Of course when cleaning the house is #1 priority, we urgently need to do something else.

Hey, I’ll take the call from inspired action any way I can get it!

Inspired actions are what I call the things we just can’t help ourselves from doing because they’re both important and super fun at that moment! So if making your house sparkle and later working to meet that April 15 deadline anyway is what grabs you today, go for it! Perhaps do the tax return when you’re “supposed” to get your car’s smog check done!

I want working to be fun! Now, if I was sitting on the sofa watching an A&E Law and Order marathon, I may feel de-energized and uninspired. But the way I see it today is: I know that I will definitely get the first two items done on time anyway because they are also important to me, so I’m going to jump on this goal and get my blood pumping while I’m in the mood!

To stay in inspired action mode, embrace your opportunities for “healthy procrastination” (a term I’m pretty sure I made up when I was supposed to be doing something else!)
