Senator Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, says God has spoken to him about his presidential ambition and he will declare on Tuesday.

Ngige made the statement on Saturday evening when members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed him at the junction between Anambra and Enugu states.

Speaking to the crowd, who had earlier asked him to declare for the presidency, Ngige said he had consulted, and prayed and God has spoken back to him.

“I want to assure you that the period of Lent ended last night, and throughout the period, we communed with God. We did spiritual exercises and fasted. We talked to God and His Angels and God has talked back to us. God has spoken to me. I want to assure the people that I will not disappoint you. I will speak to you in the language you will understand,” he said.

According to him, as governor of Anambra for 34 months, he achieved more than those who spent eight years in office.

Ngige added that he would replicate that at the national level, if given the opportunity.

He said it is a great mistake for people to compare him with Peter Obi and Willie Obiano, noting that within the 34 months, he did better than them.

Ngige said that he did not only lay the foundation of the new Anambra but he built houses, edifices, schools and other facilities in the state.

He also said that during his tenure as governor, pensions were paid as and when due.

“I want to be your ambassador in Nigeria. We will work as we did in Anambra if the Nigerian people give us a chance. I will work as I did in the senate if Nigerians give us the chance. We will also work as I have been working as a minister of labour and productivity over the years,” he said.

According to Ngige, he has met all the governors in the southeast and they have accepted to support his ambition.

Yvonne Nelson, the popular Ghanaian actress, has shared her thoughts about flaunting one’s relationship on the internet. Giving her two cents on the matter, the actress opined that such actions usually make the relationship end quicker.

According to a report by Daily Trust, many traders at Okobaba Sawmill, Lagos Mainland are counting their losses after hoodlums reportedly invaded the market around 5pm on Friday and looted about 35 shops.

Daily Trust learnt that the thugs, armed with guns, operated freely till around 4am on Saturday and brought in a vehicle to pack their loot.

Policemen from Adekunle and Denton divisions were reportedly afraid to enter the sawmill located in a slum.

It was learnt that what eventually degenerated to looting started as a clash between boys from Jebba and Ibadan streets and their rivals from Abeokuta Street.

Sources, who confided in our correspondent, identified some notorious members of the rival gangs as Omo B, Baba Muri, Gideon, Abu Onigbo, Ila and Epon.

They were said to have exploited the ensuing confusion to rob innocent traders, carting away valuables and cash.

General Secretary, Lagos Mainland Sawmillers Association, Mr Titus Ikuejamoye, told Daily Trust that the hoodlums stole generators, phone accessories, freezers and building materials worth millions of naira.

He said, “Around 5pm on Friday, those boys stormed the sawmill, armed with guns. Everyone was surprised that such thing could happen in broad daylight. They were shooting into the air. I managed to escape and called the DPO Adekunle Police Station and told him what was going on.

“I also called a policeman at Denton Police Division and he told me a team was coming. Surprisingly, the policemen parked their vans at a distance and watched those boys looting our shops.

“They raided shops till around 4am on Saturday. They even brought in a vehicle to pack their loot. They stole generators, phone accessories, freezers and building materials. I tried to call 112 thrice, but it didn’t go through.”

Ikuejamoye said traders in the sawmill had no disagreement with the thugs, lamenting that the hoodlums had deployed clashes as tactics to rob unsuspecting people.

He added, “They injured a security guard who tried to prevent them from breaking into shops. They looted about 20 shops under the bridge around the sawmill and burgled over 15 shops selling building materials inside the sawmill. About a month ago, they burnt part of the sawmill.”

The secretary of Ward F Unit, the section of the sawmill attacked on Friday, Mr Orioye Agbudeloye, said hoodlums had instilled fear in traders and made the market environment tense.

He said he escaped from the sawmill and watched from afar as the shops were being burgled without any restraint.

He stated, “They came in around 5pm on Friday and were here till 4am the following day. The policemen were watching them from a distance; they didn’t come in to stop them.

“People were calling me after I got home on Friday night. People kept on telling me that those guys were still operating all through the night. They burgled over 35 shops. They looted some shops without leaving anything behind.

“They were about 200. They overpowered the local security men in the sawmill and the policemen who were supposed to provide backup could not help. That was why they were able to wreak a lot of havoc.

“The situation is so tense that we are not even sure when next they are coming. They threatened to come back. This problem has been on; they have been terrorising the sawmill, they started from Ward A.”

The head of a local security outfit in the neighbourhood, Mr Musbau Agbodemu, urged security agents to quell the crisis which he said had been going on for over a week.

He said, “I called the Area Commander Area C on Friday night and he assured me there was no problem, but policemen could not stop those boys. They operated for 11 hours.

“The boys from Jebba and Ibadan streets have been fighting those from Abeokuta Street every day for over a week now. The fight started a long time ago but they stopped only to resume over a week ago. Nobody knows the cause of their fight but they are using the opportunity to rob.”

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said it was not true police watched while the hoodlums looted the shops, adding that they would have called for backup if the situation was overwhelming.

“It is not true. No policemen will stand aloof and watch criminals looting shops. They (the traders) should present evidence,” he added.

According to Daily Trust, young Nigerians cannot be blamed for being “lazy” with erratic electricity supply in the country, a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has said.

President Muhammadu Buhari had been criticised after he said some Nigerian youths were lazy because they were only hustling to get on the gravy train.

“More than 60 per cent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil-producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free,” Buhari had said during a panel appearance with world leaders at the Commonwealth Business Forum in London.

The president’s comment sparked massive online protest, which led to the creation of the hashtag ‘#LazyNigerianYouths’ to counter the president.

Speaking on Saturday at a rally of South West youths of the ruling party, Tinubu said no nation can witness “rapid development” without electricity, adding that the country cannot continue to give “excuses” for failure to generate a stable power supply.

He said the country is blessed with enough gas that can be used to generate electricity and even export to European countries.

Tinubu said: “We cannot continue with excuses on NEPA failure. No! No nation can make rapid development without electricity.

“Give us that, and if we cannot be successful, you can abuse us. You cannot give us erratic electricity that is undependable and then blame us again that we are lazy. No!

“Nigeria — it is about time. We have enough gas to fire up our electricity. We can supply the rest of Europe with gas, and we can make money from it.”

Joshua Bamiloye, the son of Mike Bamiloye, founder and President of Mount Zion Faith Ministries and Mount Zion Television, is currently under fire for making a tweet condemning Marvel movies.

The young man, some days ago described Marvel movies as having characters who are possessed by an evil spirit.

His tweet attracted the outrage of Nigerians who claimed Mount Zion movies caused them more trauma as kids compared to the effect of Marvel movies. 

Some tweeps urged the Christian filmmaker to focus on making movies in his niche and stop criticising what he cannot control. 

He, however, made a follow-up thread to explain his intent stressing that he had not called for a ban on such movies but to encourage Christians like him to be more cautious with the entertainment content they consume. 

He tweeted, “So I made a tweet on Marvel movies, and I think it's time to expand on that because there's something we need to hammer home in the body of Christ. What exactly is it? The impact some of today’s films have on our generation, and even more so on our (future) children. 

“Let me preface this by saying I watch Marvel films as well, so this isn't a topic to completely ban, dissociate, or cancel Hollywood films from our homes (because you can bet some people won't read half of this thread but still come to their silly conclusions just to cause chaos).

“Rather, this is a plea for us to be more deliberate in how much of God we pour into ourselves and subsequently into the lives of our children, so their thought process isn’t shaped by these movies. 

I'll go over a few of the characters who sparked that concern. 

“Scarlet Witch, a superhero, was my first source of concern. I'm not going into details, I'm just pointing out who our children will refer to as superheroes. Characters they would want to copy.  

Doctor Strange is in the same boat (who is a sorcerer, same-same).

“Over the years, foreign films have beautified witchcraft & sorcery. 

We may know that witchcraft is a no-no, regardless of how many movies we see about it, but believe me, it is harmful for a child to grow up with this kind of orientation without proper knowledge of God's word.

“The message is consistently the same: there are "good witches" and "evil witches. NETFLIX KIDS is also known for these types of shows. 

That’s by the way, let’s go back to marvel.

”Another example is Venom, which was released in 2018, followed by a sequel in 2021. The plot revolves around a man whose body was fused with that of a "symbiotic alien" (a funny euphemism for a demon, in my opinion) named Venom.

"The sheer gore in the sight of this monster that was supposed to be the hero of the story freaks me out.

Venom is a creature that dwells inside a man and manifests in times of battle. Venom can also take control of a man's activities without visibly appearing. 

"Last year, I had the opportunity to talk to a gathering of high school students.

I casually asked, "Who has seen Venom?" Hands were raised. 

"Who likes Venom?" I asked again. Almost all hands were raised again. When they observed my surprised expression, they dropped their hands.

"This year, Morbius was released. I haven’t seen it but from research, it’s the story of a Dr with a blood disorder who sought help from a means that turns him into a vampire; a blood-sucking demon.

That’s the Hero. He is possessed by and manifests another being inside of him.

"And finally the presently trending series: Moon Knight. A regular guy shares a body with a mercenary that possesses Egyptian powers and he asks for control over his body from time to time. 

He, like Venom and Morbius, is possessed by and manifests another being inside of him.

"These are just a few instances; let’s not even get started on Disney's ambitions to fully integrate LGBT themes into their children's materials, which will no longer be a coded affair. (Side note-Disney owns Marvel).

"Again, I'm not advocating for a ban on Hollywood films or a boycott of Marvel films (though, if you can, good for you). 

I'm requesting that we become more sensitive and vigilant than we have ever been. The world is getting darker, and the devil is becoming increasingly crafty.

"Make a firm commitment in your heart to nourish your heart with God's word as much as possible so that you can pass it on to your children and younger siblings. 

"This will function as a powerful deterrent to the negative content that’s out there.

"We can’t completely prevent germs in the air, water, or food, but we can strengthen our immune system to combat them when they get in the body. 

In the spirit, it's the same way. Spiritual germs are present in the media, but your spiritual immunity is the most important factor.

"So, dear Christians, What are your thoughts on the matter? I'd be delighted to hear it. Also, anyone who comes with the aim of twisting this topic into nonsense or brings Mount Zion into it just for mockery will be promptly blocked. This is a discussion for believers only.”

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), in Yobe State have arrested and recovered illicit drugs from two suspected drug traffickers in the state, according to Our Source.

Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, disclosed this in a statement indicating that the arrest was part of successes recently recorded by the agency in its renewed drug war in the country.

“In Gadaka village of Fika LGA, Yobe State, operatives arrested one Hassan Usman with a total of 22, 110 tablets of Tramadol, D5 and Exol 5”, the Babafemi said.

He noted that the anti-narcotics operatives in Yobe State apprehended one Ali Mohammed in a commercial vehicle coming from Kano to Maiduguri with 40 blocks of cannabis weighing 33kg.

“Also arrested on the Kano-Maiduguri route was a driver, Ibrahim Khalil Idris with 60 packets of Tramadol, all on Tuesday 12th April”, he added.

According to Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the officers and men of various Commands for disrupting desperate attempts by drug cartels to traffic dangerous drugs into Nigeria and across the country.

David Adeleke, the popular Nigerian pop star, also known as Davido, has given due credit to his fellow singer, Augustine Miles Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno for reviving his career at the moment he needed it most.

Davido said he didn’t have any hit songs for almost a year until Tekno came and brought him back to the spotlight.

The 29-year-old revealed that his hit song, ‘IF’ was written by Tekno.

Davido disclosed this to Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on the Bounce Radio program.

He said: “Till date, I am still grateful to Tekno. Tekno brought me back, I didn’t have a hit for almost a year.

“Tekno wrote the song “IF” and he wanted me to record the song. He wanted me to do it because I am a good guy.”

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, a terror leader idenitfied as Nasanda, has vowed to avenge the death of his bride, her uncle and aunt whom he claimed were killed by some vigilante men in Zamfara State. 

According to Nigerian Tribune, the terror kingpin gave a 14-day ultimatum to the Zamfara State Government to pay 30 million naira as compensation on the three deceased persons. 

Failure to pay the compensation, he vowed, would lead to the killing of 300 locals. 

In a recorded audio message trending on social media, Nasanda described the murder of his bride, her uncle, and aunt as deliberate even stating that the vigilante men knew that they were related to him. 

In the audio, the terrorist was quoted as saying that he has been realistic and not greedy in asking for the N30 million compensation. 

According to him, if he was greedy, he would have asked for N50 million per person.

"I am not giving months, but 14 days, for my demands to be met. And we will not attack until when people are on their farms. If our Fulani people are not allowed to live in peace, we will also not allow others to live in peace," he said. 

“If the government can’t pay the money, I will do what I am used to. That is I will take the life of 300 people to avenge the death of my bride and two of her relations. Yes, the lives of 900 will be in danger,” he asserted.

At the time of filing this report, there was no statement from the police or the state government over the threats.

A pastor and human rights activist, Jude Ohanenye, has been remanded in a correctional centre by a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State;

The man was remanded for the alleged defilement of an 8-year-old girl.

Ohanenye, who is a member of Behind Bars, a human rights group, was arraigned on Wednesday on two counts bordering on sexual abuse and defilement to which she pleaded not guilty.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on March 16, 2022 in the Eliozu area of the Port Harcourt. 

The charge read, “That you, Jude Ohanenye, on the 16th day of March 2022, at Eliozu, Port Harcourt, in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did unlawfully and sexually abused a girl of 8 years old by touching her vagina, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 32 (1) (2) of the Child Right Act, Cap. 50 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2003.

“That you Jude Ohanenye on the same date and place in the aforesaid magisterial district, did defile a girl of 8 years old by inserting your finger into her vagina, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 32 (1) (2) of the Child Right Act, Cap. 50 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2003.”

Behind Bars Director General, Harrison Gwamnishu, who had earlier confirmed the incident in a statement on Facebook, said the group acted promptly after receiving a complaint against the pastor and member.

"A member of our team Pastor Jude was charged to court for child sexual assault on a 8 year old minor in Portharcourt, Rivers State," Gwamnishu stated.

"The victim narrated how Pastor Jude carried her on his lap and fingered her. We received the complaint and quickly ordered his arrest. He was arrested and handed over to the Police for a thorough and unbiased investigation.

"Medical report proved the child vagina was ruptured but hymen still intact. The police concluded their investigation and he has been charged to a competent court of jurisdiction.

"As organization in forefront of Advocacy to end all form of social vices, we will never hide our own no matter the pressure.

"Pastor Jude has been remanded in prison custody and case adjourned till 21st April, 2022 for a hearing.

"We wish to appreciate the Nigeria Police for refusing to grant bail despite the pressure from some highly placed individuals. We appeal to parents to be watchful as anyone paedophile is nearby. 

In what will come across as a really shocking development, a man was caught having s*x with his maid shortly after his wife gave birth.

The man was caught while his wife was in the hospital recovering from child birth, according to a Twitter user.

The wife reportedly went into labour on Thursday,  April 14. She gave birth on Friday, April 15, after 27 hours of labour.

On Saturday,  April 16, the husband left his wife at the hospital, explaining he had some business to handle.

On the same day, the newborn baby's godmother, who is also the new mother's neighbour, was sent to the family's house to bring some supplies for the new mum. However, when she got to the house, she found the husband having s*x with their housemaid.

The godmother took to Twitter to narrate the incident, insisting she caught the husband in the act. She added that she is not into Twitter dramas and wouldn't cook up a story.

Oluwatosin Alao, a gospel artiste, has recounted his ordeal in the den of kidnappers when the criminals stopped a vehicle conveying him to a programme in 2018.

Alao, during a recent interview with Amina Atairu said he alongside eight members of his band started on the journey from Lagos to Kogi and on getting to Kabba in Kogi State, Fulani bandits attacked the vehicle with weapons: cutlasses and AK-47 guns. 

However, the bandits took four members of the band, Alao inclusive while five other members including two females were allowed to go — an occurrence the artiste considered a miracle from God. 

He said the bandits took them into the bush forcing them to trek for hours non-stop and threatening to kill anyone whose strength had waned. He said the bandits even hit their heads with the butt of a gun.

The gospel artiste said he and members of his band had to drink the water the bandits used to wash their cattle. 

Meanwhile, Alao who at some points, queried the kidnappers said they told him that they ventured into the business of kidnapping and terrorism because Nigeria belonged to their father. 

He said, “They told me that their father owns the land and since they're not getting what belongs to them, they have resorted to doing this. They said Nigeria belongs to them since the 16th or 17th century. 

“They said they do only three jobs: kidnap, join Boko Haram and do rituals. They said when they kidnap someone and people can't pay to get them and it results in death, they cut their body parts and sell them.”

He narrated, “I went for a show with one of my friends to Kogi State, we travelled by road, we took a minibus for about nine of us, we branched in Akure, enjoyed ourselves. 

"We passed a military checkpoint, we were moving, thanking God that the place is safe. After like four minutes, it is a bumpy road, though people pass there, we were sceptical but we still moved. I noticed a Fulani man in front, but I didn't know what it was exactly. 

"The more I approached the man, the more uncomfortable I was. When we were almost close to him, I stopped and he double-crossed the road with an AK-47. I looked at the rear mirror, to reverse, three other people came out at the back from the bush, we were in Kabba already. I couldn't move because I observed they were carrying AK-47s, cutlasses, etc. 

"They smashed the glass and corked a gun. We surrendered and they marched nine of us into the bush, there were two female back-ups, and the faces of the four attackers were painted. The first miracle God gave us was that the ladies were separated from us and three others. They marched four of us into the bush, at about past 4, they destroyed the car. 

"One of the boys went to the military checkpoint but couldn't get help. They set the five other people free. I started talking to them in Hausa. From past 4 pm, we trekked non-stop till 1 am, one of my back-ups, he's on the big side, and the boy said he was already tired, and that he doesn't mind ending it up there. 

"The attackers said they would kill him, that we're supposed to cover miles. They said they were going to kill my backup guy and sell his body parts so the talking drummer volunteered to carry him. The attackers said they will kill him and right in my presence, those who will buy his body parts will arrive. We didn't know what we were doing because they were all carrying guns. 

"Later that early morning, they tied us together and set up a bonfire so we can see. So my drummer said boss we can overcome these four people, they are four, we are four, he said these guns are not normal guns. He said boss let's run, I don't know what came over me, I'm not always afraid but I'm just relaxed that they know this bush more than us. We had trekked from Kogi to Ondo. One of them was 24, the other 26, one was 28 and the other 29. 

"The four of them don't even stay in the same state. They tied four of us, one was in front with AK-47, one was at the back, one went into the bush, the other one was cooking drugs, they were high. My drummer insisted that we run but I said no. When it was daylight, we saw that it was a real gun, that had about ten cartridges. 

"They went through our phones to call people. One of the things I want to say here is that each time our phone rings, they will dial some networks to know the identity of the person. They knew what they were doing, this is a cartel, and they speak to people in the communication world. 

"They told me that this money they're asking me, they're not the only one that will share the money, the police, military, etc. In fact, when they took the N5 million. Someone brought the money in cash to them, they said that they would know if there is a tracker. 

"When I heard about the Kaduna attack, my spirit went back to what I passed through, it's hell. We were walking around, we trekked for almost 50 hours, they kept moving, they have people talking to them, monitoring their location. My five band boys went to report to the military, my immediate elder brother is a king, he too was already connecting people. 

"The truth is, if you are kidnapped, you are on your own, it takes God for you to come back. Our release was a miracle. Three days after our release, the Oba of Ifon was killed. This thing is not ordinary. When they took the money, they flipped it because there is a way they will know if it is being tracked. 

"It is sad that a country I belong to, that I'm serving, I've been playing music for over three and a half decades in my country, I had the opportunity to stay abroad with a green card but this is my country, I feel great being a Nigerian but my friends ask me if I want to die in the country. 

"I had a baby three months before the time and I was like, is that the end? As I'm talking to you, I'm already traumatised. 

"The following day, we were in Ekiti, they asked if we were hungry. They gave us the water they used to clean their cows, I drank it. They're used to it because they are all on drugs. They are fetish, at a time I asked them if they aren't tired. As a Yoruba boy, there's something called Kanako, it means you can decide to trek from here to Ibadan and the journey will be shorter and they told me that's what they use. 

"They know everywhere within the 5, 6 states of that area. You don't know the freedom you have sitting down, doing what you want, we were drinking it with happiness because we were on the verge of passing out. 

"They asked us what we wanted to eat, one of them went to the market in Ekiti State. They told me that their father owns the land and since they're not getting what belongs to them, they have resorted to doing this. They said Nigeria belongs to them since the 16th or 17th century. They said they do only three jobs: kidnap, join Boko Haram and do rituals. 

"They said when they kidnap someone and people can't pay to get them and it results in death, they cut their body parts and sell them. They will make lots of money from it. I couldn't argue with them, because we have already said our last prayers several times. The guy that went to the market brought garri and palm oil, mixed it and asked us to eat it. They live like normal humans among us. Some of my guys rushed the garri. 

"At this time, they had started negotiating with people, my pastor would call and pray for them. After this, they would beat the hell out of us. In fact, we were even praying that the man shouldn't even call. 

"Two of my mums made efforts to get the government, called and tried to locate where we were. But what we heard was, if the military tried to strike, they might be able to rescue but lose some of us. 

"When they eventually said we should look for N5 million out of N40 million, special thanks to friends, pastors, my colleagues. The gospel industry was thrown into pandemonium. Sammie Okposo, Big Bolaji, BJ Sax Nathaniel Bassey, those three nights, they were just praying."

Mrs Oriaku Nmadu, the mother of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, has lamented the extent of abuse suffered by the deceased from her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, saying the singer’s spouse never allowed his late wife enjoy all what she laboured for.

This is as she also called for justice over the death of her daughter, who reportedly died as a result of physical abused suffered from her husband, now arrested and in police custody.

Nmadu, who hails from Isuochi Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, also advised single ladies to be careful while selecting their spouses.

The deceased’s mother who spoke with members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists in Abia State, said her heart was still bleeding as a result of her daughter’s untimely death.

She said, “When Nwachukwu came for my daughter’s hand in marriage, he presented himself as a pastor from Anambra State. But shortly after the marriage, Nwachukwu shut the doors to our entire family and completely possessed my daughter.

“My daughter went through hell in the hands of Nwachukwu. My daughter had four children and I could not go for omugwo (baby sitting) for any of the children because her husband would not want to see any member of Osinachi’s family.”

She recalled that there was an instance the singer fell sick and the husband refused any family member to check on her until after much pressure from Osinachi’s friends before Nwachukwu allowed her to vist the deceased in their home in Abuja.

During her stay, she recalled an occasion after church service which the husband abandoned her and his late wife and drove home with the children.

“That Sunday after church service as we were waiting for Peter Nwachukwu, he came out and ordered his children into the car, he drove off leaving me and my daughter behind.

“I was shocked, because it was a well wisher that gave my daughter that car. Still yet, instead of Osinachi to complain, she rushed out and got a taxi that drove us home.

“Another car a fan gave Osinachi for Gods work, Peter took the vehicle and started driving it. At every slight of misunderstanding, he abandons his wife at any point and drive away.

“He never allowed the wife to enjoy the fruit of her labour.”

She said Osinachi’s children are now with one of her daughters while she appealed to NAWOJ to help her get justice.

The bereaved mother used the occasion to call on young ladies looking for husband to thoroughly study the kind of man they are about to marry to avoid falling into the wrong hands.

“Osinachi believed in the christain injunction that says marriage is for better for worse and that was why she endured the marriage thinking that Peter Nwachukwu will change but unfortunately my daughter died.”

Reacting to the incident, the Abia State Chairman of NAWOJ, Beatrice Odoemelem, described the untimely death of the gospel singer as devastating, adding that the deceased was known for her melodious voice and inspirational songs.

She assured Osinachi’s mother that NAWOJ with Abia Ministry of women Affairs will not relent until justice is served. While she appealed to men to adore their wives and stop battery and violence against women.

On her part, the Abia State Secretary of NAWOJ, Henrietta Ashikodi, aslo called on families to be a lifeline support to their female children facing abuse in their matrimonial homes.

She said the abuse melted on the late Osinachi by her husband were well known by members of her family and friends but they all appeared helpless in saving her till death came calling.

“Is time women speak out, you do not have to die the way Osinachi died. Let be our brothers keeper, let the world know when a woman who is helpless is been abused, by this we are avoiding untimely death of innocent wives and mothers,” she added.

The twin sister of late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu has made damning allegations against Peter Nwachukwu.

She spoke in a recent interview narrating how Osinachi suffered in the hands of her husband.

According to her, Peter obtained the singer's monetized YouTube login details while she was on sick bed.

Also, the mother of the gospel singer in an interview with BBC Igbo claimed that Peter allegedly threatened that the only way Osinachi would leave their marriage is through death.

She noted that Peter denied her access to her grandchildren for eight years and she was not allowed to take care of her grandchildren.

According to Osinachi’s mother, the singer’s husband at a time pushed them out of the house while she (mother) was sick.

She revealed that Osinachi left her marriage for over a year but returned after her husband came with Pastors to beg.

She added that she advised her daughter to leave but Osinachi insisted on staying, claiming that the Bible frowns at divorce.

They sisters of the late singer on their part revealed how Peter pretended to be a nice person till he got married to their sister.

They noted that Peter maltreated their sister while she was pregnant and after childbirth.

The twin sister of the singer disclosed that Peter is unemployed and allegedly assaulted and extorted their sister repeatedly when she is paid for her song ministration.

A former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye has said he was unfairly convicted.

His statement comes after he was pardoned by the Council of State.

Speaking through his spokesman, Christopher John, on Thursday, Senator Dariye said he was unfairly convicted and his pardon was a form of vindication.

John, however, disclosed that his principal’s planned release had nothing to do with the fact that he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said: “We are so excited about this. We’ve been expecting it for a long time and fortunately, it has come at this time.

“We thank God and the government for granting him this pardon. The Nigerian system has made many court judgments unreliable. You can be roped into things you know nothing about.

“I believe that it is the will of God for him to be released. I don’t trust the Nigerian court system. Jolly Nyame was also released and we thank God.

“It has nothing to do with them being in the APC. It was even the PDP that charged them to court. The APC was not in power when this thing started. We know the genesis.”

Recall that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had said the Council of State had approved presidential pardons for 159 out of 162 convicts nationwide.

The minister made this known while addressing journalists after the Council of State meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

He said the council rejected a proposal to grant pardon to one of the prisoners sentenced to 120 years for theft of over N25bn.

Though the minister refused to disclose the identity of the prisoner in question, he said the pardon was sought on health grounds.

Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has expressed fear after some unknown gunmen on Thursday killed some staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State.

Sani speaking on Friday condemned the attack and called for a common stand against the attackers.

His position follows the killing of the INEC official identified as Mr. Nwokorie Anthony who was gunned down during the Continuous Voter Registration Exercise (CVR) exercise in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that INEC has suspended the exercise following the killings.

Speaking on the incident, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Emeka Ezeonu, said Nwokorie was killed at Nkwo Ihitte (PU 004) in Amakohia Ward (RA 02) of Ihitte Uboma LGA.

Taking to his Twitter account to react to the development, Senator Sani wrote: “The attack on the INEC registration center and the killing of the INEC staff by those terrorist gunmen in Imo state is condemnable. That act of criminality & the video footage was meant to spray fear, but should rather galvanize collective outrage & defiance against them.”
