Hey guys,

Today is International Women's, to celebrate I'm posting a piece I created of Hillary Clinton.

The piece is using many of Hillary Clinton's inspirational quotes. She is such an advocate on Women's rights that she needs to be celebrated.

Maybe we will be celebrating her becoming the first woman President of the U.S. in 2016. You never know!

Today would have been Steve Jobs 60th Birthday.

Steve Jobs' legacy is one that we are all immersed in - I'm even writing this post on my iPhone.

For this piece, I have used quotes about the man behind the legend, from Steve Wozniak to the person sitting next to me on the bus.

Nelson Mandela

Hey guys,

Today marks 25 years since Nelson Mandela was released from Victor Verster Prison, ending 27 years of incarceration. He was given unconditional freedom.

Here is a portrait I produced of Nelson Mandela using quotes from different people about him. Ranging from Barack Obama to Annie Lennox. And Bono, of course!

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed producing it. The piece itself will be displayed at London's Woolff Gallery throughout May.

Winston Churchill

Hi guys,

Winston Churchill died 50 years ago today. Earlier on I heard a very interesting radio program on BBC R4, about his funeral which was by people who were there.

Interesting fact - the cranes dipping along the river wasn't planned, the dock workers decided to do it themselves to pay their respects.

Anyway, I thought is post a piece I produced for an exhibition at London's Woolff Gallery, titled The British Bulldog.

Hi guys,

First of all, an apology, I haven’t blogged for ages! I am going to try and blog at least once a week (maybe a month?) from now on….

So, what’s been happening? Quite a lot! I will just keep it simple and let you know what is going on this week.

I was lucky to be asked by the fabulous Dan Whitehouse to produce a piece of art for the cover of his latest album– Reaching for a State of Mind. It is launching this Sunday at the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham, and songs on the album are stunning.

I first saw Dan perform at the Hare & Hounds in Birmingham and have been a massive fan ever since.

I’m really looking forward to going to the launch on Sunday, and also about seeing his special guest perform, Duke Special.

#PopPolitics solo exhibition by Annemarie Wright at London's Woolff Gallery

A solo exhibition featuring the work of British artist Annemarie Wright, 33, is opening at London’s Woolff Gallery, running from 31May 2013.

Wright, originally from Cambridgeshire specialises in text based work and is best known for her controversial artwork, ‘Their families have been told’, featuring Tony Blair, created using the handwritten names of British soldiers killed during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Her work is produced using ink and paper. From a distance you will see a black and white image, when moving closer you will see the image is made using handwritten text. The text is always written by, or about, the person or image in the piece itself.

The exhibition, #PopPolitics will feature an eclectic mix of influential figureheads throughout history, pairing politics with pop culture. New works will include, David Cameron, created entirely of public opinion, Olympic Gold Medal winner, Usain Bolt and a beautiful, yet daring interpretation of the future heir to the British Throne.

This is Wright’s second solo exhibition with the Woolff Gallery and will feature an entire body of new work, including a piece of recently departed Iron Lady, Baroness Margaret Thatcher and a piece of Pakistani school girl and educational activist Malala Yousafzai, created entirely from Good Will messages from across the globe. All proceeds from the sale of this piece will go towards a Girls’ Educational Fund Charity, founded by the Women In The World Foundation.

Wright graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 2002, with a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art and Printmaking.

She has been represented by London’s Woolff Gallery, since 2009, who have exhibited her work Worldwide.

Rest in peace Margaret Thatcher who died today the grand old age of 87.

I have always found her to be an inspiration and one of the most memorable and powerful women of all time.

Amy Winehouse - Love is a losing game

Hi guys.

Hope you are well!

Just thought I would drop a quick line about my Amy Winehouse piece, which is currently hanging in Adee Phelan's salon, in The Cube, Birmingham.

With Monday July 23rd, being a year since the sad passing of Amy Winehouse - a couple of online papers picked up on the piece, which was a tribute to the singer.

The piece is called 'love is a losing game', and is made up of the full lyrics from her Frank and Back to Black albums.

I have been out of action for most of Jan. Mainly because I have been living it up in Thailand, but also because I have fractured my wrist!

So artwork has been somewhat difficult of late.

Anyway, I had my cast removed today - so hopefully I can get on with my latest Olympic venture. All will be revealed!

Hey guys,

A bit of a belated blog about an awesome course I went on a couple of weeks ago. Barry White playing on the radio reminded me!

The course - http://www.neonworkshops.com/ - was an intensive introduction to neon (aka cold cathode lighting) ran by Richard William Wheater. I learnt lots of interesting facts and skills, such as neon is 100 years old in 2012. Also that I wasn't very good at glass bending, however I do intend to have another go and i'm sure practise will make perfect.

Richard William Wheater also runs 12 months of Neon Love with Victoria Lucas - http://12monthsofneonlove.blog.com/ - The project is formed using a sequence of twelve lyrical statements, borrowed from well-known songs that feature the many configurations of love. Presented over a year in large red neon text, twelve expressions of intimacy, adoration and heartbreak are visually re-presented to an unsuspecting audience going about their everyday lives.

I have attached a photo of the Barry White lyric below - hence the reminder!!

Boris defaced for Movember

So my Boris picture has been updated, with a hairy addition.

I would normally be a little miffed. However, it is Movember and what a wonderful way to raise awareness for the rapidly growing charity.

If any of you haven't heard of Movember, the general gist it that males grow a moustache during the month of November, with the aim of raising vital funds and awareness for prostate cancer.

So follow in the footsteps (or cycle tracks) of Boris, and get that facial hair sprouting.
