Fees must fall is a student movement which began in October 2015 background on fees must fall
It is very funny knowing that the government is willing to increase the school fees at tertiary level, yet they know very well that most student are not able to afford paying the current school fees, how can one be approved to study with NSFAS and not be approved the following year? where do they expect you to get the money from that will cover for text books, school fees and even accommodation for those living away from home if they have no accepted you?

The government knows that most especially African( black) students come from disadvantaged homes and they can not afford to pay for the fees but they still decide to go ahead and increase school fees, not minding if some students will drop out or not.

Since it felt as if their voices where not being heard, they decided to turn the protest into a violence protest. Peaceful protest turned into violence

Destroying University facilities was totally unacceptable and it should not be tolerated at all, the students who were involved in destroying and vandalizing university properties should be dealt with immediately, Students should know that they are always some consequences for every action that they take. Burning buses was also one of the acts that students carelessly did, how can they burn buses which they normally use to transport them from one place to another, and then later when the institution does not have enough buses the complain and strike, yet forgetting that they had burnt some buses.

Advantages

Most students followed the trending hashtag, and they were updated on every latest story and breaking news that was happening, another advantage of using social media is the fact that news travelled rapidly and before we even knew it everyone knew about the movement news is posted as it happens.

Disadvantage

Since anyone can easily access social media and get all information that a person may need , some people wanted to take advantage and turn the movement to something that they wanted. Hijacking the student movement. Some people started using the movement to do criminal activities.

Institutions have to respond fast and be honest about what they are doing about addressing the issue of violent protests which have been happening, parents and care givers will want to know if their kids are safe and therefore Universities have to make sure that they have answers to all questions which maybe asked to them by parents and care givers. PRP'S need to make sure that they have all the necessary information required as they are the spokesperson of organisations.
PRP'S should engage in social networks such twitter and Facebook so that they are aware of what is happening with the student movement . PRP'S should make sure that they tweet and post relevant information which all everyone would want to know about.

# Say no to xenophobia

Xenophobia is the hatred and dislike of a person from another country. The first act of xenophobia happened in 2008.First xenophobia attack in South Africa.

Outcome of xenophobia

Most people who took part and supported xenophobia have no real understanding of who a foreigner is, they tend to believe that a foreigner is any African (black) who is not from South Africa, they forget that even people who come from overseas are foreigners too.
Brand's responded positively and quickly to the hashtag "Say no to xenophobia" they immediately took to social media what being united meant to them especially being African, Radio stations, TV stations had some campaigns about the impact of xenophobia on South Africa as a country.

Xenophobia had a huge impact on the South African tourism industry Tourists fear to come to South Africa .
Although every situations has it's positives and negatives , we would say that xenophobia had more negatives then positives on the country, the fact that some South African citizens who worked in other countries had to be sent back until every thing was cleared meant that the rest of the world was watching and they did not approve of what was happening South African workers in other countries

When an organisation knows that they is an issue at hand, they should make sure that they address the issue immediately ,especially if that issue can have an impact on the organisation, they should make sure that they do not leave any information or details out. e.g. When xenophobia took place in 2015 the university of Johannesburg was very active, they organised a march against xenophobia because it has international student.

Advantages

Most people from different countries heard about what was happening in South Africa and they decided to take it to social media. People expressed their views on what they thought of the incidences. Social media helped those who become homeless, organisations would post about the donations that they would be making and be specific in which areas they would be donating to.

Disadvantage

South Africa is currently going through and economic crisis ,I believe that the thought of free education is a very good idea , but students also need to realize that the economy is currently going down and the government is not able to offer free education. Another disadvantage of social media is the fact that people upload videos and pictures on social media and people from different countries see them, this puts in fear on people who would want to visit South Africa. Foreigners fear to visit South Africa

Recommendation

We as Public Relation Practitioners need to make sure that we pay attention to trending hashtags at all times, we need to make sure that we keep up to date with what is currently happening not only around us but around the world. We need to make sure that we engage yourself with different types of social media networks so that we can get the latest information, Twitter is one of the best and fastest social media networks which always has the latest news from all around the world.
