2 Kenyan Men Have Signed An Agreement To ‘Marry’ The Same Woman

Two Kenyan men have signed an agreement to “marry” the same woman.

The woman had been having affairs with both men for more than four years and apparently refused to choose between them.

The agreement sets out a rota for Sylvester Mwendwa and Elijah Kimani to stay in her house and states they will both help raise any children she bears.

Mr Mwendwa told the BBC he loved the woman and said the contract would “set boundaries” and “keep the peace.Lawyers said the “marriage” would only be recognised if they could prove polyandry – a woman having more than one husband – was part of their custom.

The BBC’s David Okwembah in the capital, Nairobi, says polyandry is not practised by any community in Kenya.

People have reacted with shock to the “marriage”, arguing that it is not acceptable in terms of their culture, religion or the law, he says.
Defending the “marriage”, Mr Mwendwa told the BBC Focus on Africa programme that while he may acting in breach of the law, he had decided to enter into a contract with Mr Kimani to end their rivalry.
“It could have been very dangerous if the other man would have come to her house and caught me… So our agreement is good as it sets boundaries and helps us keep peace.”
‘No jealousy’

Community policing officer Adhalah Abdulrahman persuaded the two men to marry the woman after he saw them fighting over her in Mombasa county, the local Daily Nation newspaper reports.

“We have agreed that from today we will not threaten or have jealous feelings because of our wife, who says she’s not ready to let go of any of us,” the agreement says, Kenya’s NTV station reports.

“Each one will respect the day set aside for him. We agree to love each other and live peacefully. No-one has forced us to make this agreement,” it adds.

Mr Mwendwa said her parents had given their blessing, while he is planning to pay the bride price.

The woman, a widow with two children, did not want to be named.

Mr Mwendwa told the BBC he did not marry the woman simply to satisfy his sexual desires but because he loved her and, most of all, her children.

“I have never been called a dad and her two children call me daddy,” he said.

He said he hoped to have his own children with the woman, but she would have to decide.

“She is like the central referee. She can say whether she wants me or my colleague,” he added.

Kenyan family lawyer Judy Thongori told the Daily Nation that the law does not explicitly forbid polyandry.

“The laws we have do not talk about it but for such a union to be recognised in Kenya, it has to be either under the statutory law or as customary marriage. The question we should ask now is whether these people come from communities that have been practising polyandry,” she is quoted as saying.

Woman gives birth in bar bathroom, kills & dumps baby in toilet then carried on drinking with her friends

A mum suffocated her newborn son in a pub toilet then carried on drinking with her friends, it is claimed.

Amanda Hein, 26, who had kept the pregnancy secret, gave birth in the toilet cubicle before putting her baby in a plastic bag and stuffing him in the cistern, prosecutors say.

The body was found the next day by a cleaner investigating why the loo would not flush.

District Attorney John Morganelli told a US court hearing: “Even having been a prosecutor for 20 years, it is very upsetting. I’ve seen dead people… shot, strangled. But when you’re dealing with a baby, it’s very difficult.”

Hein has been charged with criminal homicide and could face the death penalty if convicted.

Court papers say that on August 18 Hein went to Starters pub near Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with pals to watch WWE wrestling on TV.

It is also said that Hein, of nearby Allentown, went to the loo complaining of back pain, and was gone for 40 minutes.

Prosecutors claim Hein hid the baby in the cistern, then went for a cigarette before returning to her pals.

A friend who drove her home an hour later offered to take her to hospital because she had blood on her clothes, but Hein said she was fine.

Mr Morganelli added that when police tracked Hein down she told them her baby was alive when she put him in the bag.

A postmortem failed to determine if the baby was suffocated by the bag or the cistern.

Gov Rauf Aregbesola’s group,De Raufs, has volunteered to sponsor 15-year-old stowaway teenager, Daniel Oikhena, who hid in the tyre compartment of Arik Air flight from Benin to Lagos.

“Genius and ambitious citizen of our country must not be suffocated on the alter of political and bureaucratic enforcement. The little boy’s ambition should be nurtured through qualitative education, and the group is ready to give the boy all the necessary support to make his dream a reality.

“We are sincerely willing to offer him the scholarship to encourage thousands of teenagers who are cerebral and ambitious. The leaders in Nigeria fail on their part to see the potential of the little boy. Therefore, De Raufs takes up the responsibility to safe the future of this great boy and not turn him into a criminal.”

In a statement signed by the Director General of De Raufs, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, the group is ready to give scholarship to Daniel up to university level and help him realise his dream of travelling by air legitimately.

The boy’s mother, Mrs Oikhena will be getting a lot of support from De Raufs to keep her son’s dream alive.

U.S. Embassy – ASUU Strike Worries us

United States has expressed worry over the lingering feud between the Federal Government and the striking public universities’ lecturers over their demand for better working conditions.

Speaking in Abuja yesterday, the US Embassy Cultural Affairs Officer, Bill Strassberger, urged the government to resolve the crisis with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

“We are not involved in that negotiation but we can encourage. It is a fear, it is a worry for us because that would make it hard for the students to come.” Strassberger said.

Advising Nigerians to shun those who parade themselves as agents, Strassberger said accurate information regarding studying in the US could be obtained from the embassy.

Earlier, the Head, Education USA, Jennifer Onyukwu, said the ASUU’s strike would affect intending students from Nigeria who wish to study in the US because of the need to obtain their transcript, revealing that statistically, Nigeria was US’s largest sender of students from sub-saharan Africa.

Nigeria currently has about 7,028 students studying at over 700 institutions in the USA.

The guest for today's show was Mike okri – the popular singer, whose hit songs, 'Omoge' and 'Rhumba Dance' dominated the Nigerian music scene in the 1980 - and it was quite fun. He plans to write a book eventually so this is a pre-entry to that project, thus, the title. Below is the first story he shares

Back stage at the Rothmans Groove tour which held @ TBS in 1998, there I was seated with the likes of The Plantashun Boiz,Dr. Fresh,Remedies and more...I was just a young boy trying to weigh his options on what direction to go with his career as drumming,rapping,producing and comedy were few of my options.

That night was the 1st time I met Tony Tetuila, one of those humble guys you come by,he was warm and accommodating considering the obvious fact that I was nobody in the industry.

Fast forward a few months later, Comedy had won me over and in the course of my hustle and journey to where I'm yet to get to, I bumped into Tetuila in Festac, just about the time his single 'you don hit my car' came out.

We reconnected while playing catch up. We had common friends so 'bumping' into each other became a tradition. The 1st time he saw me perform @ a concert was at a gig The Plantashun Boiz used to host @ the Den in Ikeja.

I must have impressed him because not long after that night, I got a call from him asking that we meet up. We did and he took me for a meeting in Lagos Island (Shell Office). A director at Shell was retiring and a send-forth party was being held in his honour. My performance fee then was N10,000, Tony pushed it up and convinced the client to pay N30,000 which they paid cash. Prior to this, they had never heard of me and only used me because Tony believed in me and stood up for me, convincing them to buy in.

I was paid in full a week to the show.

After picking up the cash I went straight home. Now here I was, a young comic with his 1st major pay-out of N30,000. Considering the fact that my 1st performance fee was N300 (1%) of what I had in my pocket,I couldn't help but to thank God.

I got home,gave my mum N25,000 and kept N5,000 from which I bought a shirt,pants and shoes from Tejuosho market to wear for the event. Ready for my first big show..

Have been wondering how on earth could this be possible... Luxury designer Alexander Amosu has cleared the confusion. He took to his instagram page to explain that there's a Swarovski diamond edition of his Taste of Diamond champagne. The diamond encrusted bottle is worth £1.2m, while the Swarovski version is just £350.

This is probably the version Don Jazzy and Peter Okoye got. Yehpa... :-) He reacted to the Daily Mail article about the price of the champagne. See his reaction above.
