Anyone who is into blogging will know 'traffic' = 'money'. There is no point in having a blog full of wonderful content if people do not get to see it! Who Was the World's First Blogger?

As we learned from my post last week, the term "blog" was coined by Peter Merholz in 1999. But determining who was the world's first blogger is a little more tricky. I've done some digging and have come up with a few contenders:

Brian E. Redman - From 1983-84, a Usenet group named mod.ber was created, named after and managed by Brian E. Redman. Redman and a few associates posted summaries of interesting postings and threads taking place elsewhere on the net. For this reason, mod.ber had many of the characteristics commonly associated with the term "blog".

Brad Templeton - Brad calls the newsgroup rec.humor.funny (which he founded in August, 1987) the world's oldest blog that is still running.

James Parry - also known as Kibo the Usenet legend. James authored a tongue-in-cheek personal website frequently updated by Usenet in the early 1990s.

Justin Hall- Justin began eleven years of personal blogging in 1994 while a student at Swarthmore College.

Jorn Barger - On December 17, 1997, Barger began posting short comments and links on his Robot Wisdom website, pioneering the name weblog and the format.

Brad Fitzpatrick - the creator of LiveJournal, which Brad launched in March 1999 as a way of keeping his high school friends updated on his activities.
