Nasrallah: Israeli media more fair than Lebanese

Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah said in an interview with Al Jazeera that, despite being an enemy, many Israeli media reports about the organization during the war were more favorable than those broadcast by Lebanese media.

In the interview, which was aired on Tuesday, Nasrallah also calls British Prime Minister Tony Blair a murderer, claiming he was complicit in the deaths of Lebanese citizens during the war.

I think this is not a good idea. although i would sponsor the idea of supporting civilians wherever they are from. But reading the way it is going to be done and the motivation of this person i doubt the interest of the action

When you know how “dark” NGOs are in this country, most of them linked to Hezbolla i would not even dare. The question i would like to ask is why this personn does not want to support is own country? Why put away the facts than a million of jews suffered from this war and that half of Israel has been destroyed? Why devilize this way israel?

Amnesty Int'l redefines 'war crimes'

The two principal "human rights" organizations are in a race to the bottom to see which group can demonize Israel with the most absurd legal arguments and most blatant factual mis-statements.
Until last week, Human Rights Watch enjoyed a prodigious lead, having "found" - contrary to what every newspaper in the world had reported and what everyone saw with their own eyes on television - "no cases in which Hizbullah deliberately used civilians as shields to protect them from retaliatory IDF attack.
"Those of us familiar with Amnesty International's nefarious anti-Israel agenda and notoriously "suggestible" investigative methodology wondered how it could possibly match such a breathtaking lie.But we didn't have to wait long for AI to announce that Israel was guilty of a slew of war crimes for "widespread attacks against public civilian infrastructure, including power plants, bridges, main roads, seaports, and Beirut's international airport."There are two problems with the Amnesty report and conclusion. First, Amnesty is wrong about the law.

Israel committed no war crimes by attacking parts of the civilian infrastructure in Lebanon.In fact, through restraint, Israel was able to minimize the number of civilian casualties in Lebanon, despite Hizbullah's best efforts to embed itself in population centers and to use civilians as human shields.
The total number of innocent Muslim civilians killed by Israeli weapons during a month of ferocious defensive warfare was a fraction of the number of innocent Muslims killed by other Muslims during that same period in Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan, Algeria, and other areas of Muslim-on-Muslim civil strife.
Yet the deaths caused by Muslims received a fraction of the attention devoted to alleged Israeli "crimes.

"This lack of concern for Muslims by other Muslims - and the lack of focus by so-called human rights organizations on these deaths - is bigotry, pure and simple.AMNESTY'S EVIDENCE that Israel's attacks on infrastructure constitute war crimes comes from its own idiosyncratic interpretation of the already-vague word "disproportionate." Unfortunately for Amnesty, no other country in any sort of armed conflict has ever adopted such a narrow definition of the term.
Indeed, among the very first military objectives of most modern wars is precisely what Israel did: to disable portions of the opponent's electrical grid and communication network, to destroy bridges and roads, and to do whatever else is necessary to interfere with those parts of the civilian infrastructure that supports the military capability of the enemy.That's how the American and Britain militaries fought World War II. (In fact, Israel shows far more restraint than Britain did during World War II. Prime Minister Winston Churchill directed the Royal Air Force to bomb the center of towns with the express purpose of killing as many civilians as possible.)

Had the Allies been required to fight World War II under the rules of engagement selectively applied to Amnesty International to Israel, our "greatest generation" might have lost that war.The strategy of destroying some infrastructure was particular imperative against Hizbullah.

Israel first had to ensure that its kidnapped soldiers would not be smuggled out of the country (as other soldiers had been and were never returned), then it had to prevent Hizbullah from being re-armed, especially given that Hizbullah damaged a ship using advanced radar technology provided by the Lebanese army and rockets provided by Iran.Hizbullah was being armed by Syria and Iran - as those countries themselves admitted - and the president, government, and population of Lebanon overwhelmingly supported the militia's indiscriminate rocket attacks against Israeli civilian population centers.

The Lebanese army actively supported Hizbullah's military actions. Israel was, in a very real sense, at war with Lebanon itself, and not simply with a renegade faction of militants.

Nasrallah: Soldiers' abductions a mistake

Had Hezbollah known how Israel was going to respond, the group would not have captured two Israeli soldiers last month in northern Israel, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said Sunday.
But, in an interview with Lebanon's New TV, Nasrallah also said the war would have happened anyway -- a few months later.
He insisted, without offering evidence, that Israel had been planning to launch military action in October, and the July raid by Hezbollah merely moved up the Israelis' timetable.
In a raid into Israel on July 12, Hezbollah militants killed three Israeli soldiers and abducted two others.
That attack sparked a response that the Israelis said was intended to target Hezbollah militants, but which resulted in the killing of more than 1,000 Lebanese -- most of them civilians -- and the widespread destruction of the country's infrastructure. The death toll among Israelis was 159, including 41 civilians.
If someone had said July 11 that there was "a one percent possibility" Israel's military response would be as extensive as it turned out to be, "I would say no, I would not have entered this for many reasons -- military, social, political, economic," said Nasrallah, speaking in Arabic.
Not even the families of Lebanese prisoners held by Israel would have wanted to bring on such action, he said.
"If there was a one percent possibility, we would not have done that. We would not have done any capturing."
But, he added, "If we hadn't captured those soldiers, the war would have come in October anyway." Hezbollah's raid drew Israeli action sooner and "deprived the Israelis of the element of surprise," he said.
"The Israelis wanted to begin this war," Nasrallah said, calling it "an American decision" with "many European countries" involved. He insisted Israel was looking for "an Arab cover."
When Israel launched major military action after the raid, it cited the kidnappings and months of sporadic rocket attacks by Hezbollah into northern Israel.
In an interview Sunday that lasted more than 80 minutes, Nasrallah again declared "victory" in the monthlong war with Israel.
He called it a "bigger" victory than Hezbollah had achieved in 2000, when Israel withdrew after 18 years in Lebanon -- and many throughout the Arab world credited Hezbollah's resistance efforts.
After 2000, questions remained as to whether Hezbollah could resist Israel if it chose to re-enter southern Lebanon, he said. The fact that the group withstood Israel's military onslaught, he argued, represented "a huge victory."
Nasrallah expressed no regret for the deaths of Israeli civilians, saying Lebanon was the victim of Israeli aggression.
He said he did not expect major fighting to re-emerge soon, saying indications were that Israel was not gearing up for such action.
Nasrallah also said negotiations aimed at prisoner swaps had begun, with Nabih Berri -- a Lebanese parliamentarian who frequently serves as a go-between with Hezbollah -- as the group's negotiator.
Despite Israel's reports that many Hezbollah fighters and officials were captured or killed, Nasrallah said, "the public leadership of Hezbollah -- they're all well, thank God. If the war had happened in October, it would not be like that."

Suicide Killers

On July 15, MSNBC's "Connected" program discussed the July 7th London attacks. One of the guests was Pierre Rehov, a French filmmaker who has filmed six documentaries on the intifada by going undercover in the Palestinian areas.

Pierre's upcoming film, "Suicide Killers," is based on interviews that he conducted with the families of suicide bombers and would-be bombers in an attempt to find out why they do it. Pierre agreed to a request for a Q&A interview about his work on the new film. The film debuted in New York tonight and when available on DVD I will make a copy available to anyone in the Mishblogha that wants one.

Q - What inspired you to produce "Suicide Killers," your seventh film?

A - I started working with victims of suicide attacks to make a
film on PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) when I became fascinated with the personalities of those who had committed those crimes, as they were described again and again by their victims. Especially the fact that suicide bombers are all smiling one second before they blow themselves up.

Q - Why is this film especially important?

A - People don't understand the devastating culture behind this unbelievable phenomenon. My film is not politically correct because it addresses the real problem, showing the real face of Islam. It points the finger against a culture of hatred in which the uneducated are brainwashed to a level where their only solution in life becomes to kill themselves and kill others in the name of a God whose word, as transmitted by other men, has become their only certitude.

Q - What insights did you gain from making this film? What do you know that other experts do not know?

A - I came to the conclusion that we are facing a neurosis at the level of an entire civilization. Most neuroses have in common a dramatic event, generally linked to an unacceptable sexual behavior. In this case, we are talking of kids living all their lives in pure frustration, with no opportunity to experience sex, love, tenderness or even understanding from the opposite sex. The separation between men and women in Islam is absolute. So is contempt toward women, who are totally dominated by men. This leads to a situation of pure anxiety, in which normal behavior is not possible. It is no coincidence that suicide killers are mostly young men dominated subconsciously by an overwhelming libido that they not only cannot satisfy but are afraid of, as if it is the work of the devil. Since Islam describes heaven as a place where everything on Earth will finally be allowed, and promises 72 virgins to those frustrated kids, killing others and killing themselves to reach this redemption becomes their only solution.

Q - What was it like to interview would-be suicide bombers, their families and survivors of suicide bombings?

A - It was a fascinating and a terrifying experience. You are dealing with seemingly normal people with very nice manners who have their own logic, which to a certain extent can make sense since they are so convinced that what they say is true. It is like dealing with pure craziness, like interviewing people in an asylum, since what they say, is for them, the absolute truth. I hear a mother saying "Thank God, my son is dead." Her son had became a shaheed, a martyr, which for her was a greater source of pride than if he had became an engineer, a doctor or a winner of the Nobel Prize. This system of values works completely backwards since their interpretation of Islam worships death much more than life. You are facing people whose only dream, only achievement goal is to fulfill what they believe to be their destiny, namely to be a Shaheed or the family of a shaheed. They don't see the innocent being killed, they only see the impure that they have to destroy.

Q - You say suicide bombers experience a moment of absolute power, beyond punishment. Is death the ultimate power?

A - Not death as an end, but death as a door opener to the after life. They are seeking the reward that God has promised them. They work for God, the ultimate authority, above all human laws. They therefore experience this single delusional second of absolute power, where nothing bad can ever happen to them, since they become God's sword.

Q - Is there a suicide bomber personality profile? Describe the psychopathology.

A - Generally kids between 15 and 25 bearing a lot of complexes, generally inferiority complexes. They must have been fed with religion.They u sually have a lack of developed personality. Usually they are impressionable idealists. In the western world they would easily have become drug addicts, but not criminals. Interestingly, they are not criminals since they don't see good and evil the same way that we do. If they had been raised in an Occidental culture, they would have hated violence. But they constantly battle against their own death anxiety. The only solution to this deep-seated pathology is to be willing to die and be rewarded in the afterlife in Paradise.

Q - Are suicide bombers principally motivated by religious conviction?

A - Yes, it is their only conviction. They don't act to gain territory or to find freedom or even dignity. They only follow Allah, the supreme judge, and what He tells them to do.

Q - Do all Muslims interpret jihad and martyrdom in the same way?

A - All Muslim believers believe that, ultimately, Islam will prevail on earth. They believe this is the only true religion and there is no room, in their mind, for interpretation. The main difference between moderate Muslims and extremists is that moderate Muslims don't think they will see the absolute victory of Islam during their lifetime, therefore they respect other beliefs. The extremists believe that the fulfillment of the Prophecy of Islam and ruling the entire world as described in the Koran, is for today. Each victory of Bin Laden convinces 20 million moderate Muslims to become extremists.

Q - Describe the culture that manufactures suicide bombers.

A - Oppression, lack of freedom, brain washing, organized poverty,placing God in charge of daily life, total separation between men and women, forbidding sex, giving women no power whatsoever, and placing men in charge of family honor, which is mainly connected to their women's behavior.

Q - What socio-economic forces support the perpetuation of suicide bombings?

A - Muslim charity is usually a cover for supporting terrorist organizations. But one has also to look at countries like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Iran, which are also supporting the same organizations through different networks. The ironic thing in the case of Palestinian suicide bombers is that most of the money comes through financial support from the Western world, donated to a culture that utterly hates and rejects the West (mainly symbolized by Israel).

Q - Is there a financial support network for the families of the suicide bombers? If so, who is paying them and how does that affect the decision?

A - There used to be a financial incentive in the days of Saddam Hussein, ($25,000 per family) and Yasser Arafat (smaller amounts), but these days are gone. It is a mistake to believe that these families would Sacrifice their children for money. Although, the children themselves who are very attached to their families, might find in this financial support another reason to become suicide bombers. It is like buying a life insurance policy and then committing suicide.

Q - Why are so many suicide bombers young men?

A - As discussed above, libido is paramount. Also ego, because this is a sure way to become a hero. The shaheed are the cowboys or the firemen of Islam. Shaheed is a positively reinforced value in this culture. And what kid has never dreamed of becoming a cowboy or a fireman?

Q - What role does the U.N. play in the terrorist equation?

A - The U.N. is in the hands of Arab countries and third world or ex-communist countries. Their hands are tied. The U.N. has condemned Israel more than any other country in the world, including the regime of Castro, Idi Amin or Kaddahfi.

As a support to Arab countries, the U.N. has maintained Palestinians in camps with the hope to "return" into Israel for more than 50 years, therefore making it impossible to settle those populations, which still live in deplorable conditions.

By behaving this way, the U.N. leaves a door open by not openly condemning terrorist organizations. In addition, through UNRWA, the U.N. is directly tied to terror organizations such as Hamas, representing 65 percent of their apparatus in the so-called Palestinian refugee camps.

Four hundred million dollars are spent every year, mainly financed by U.S. taxes, to support 23,000 employees of UNRWA, many of whom belong to terrorist organizations (see Congressman Eric Cantor on this subject, and in my film "Hostages of Hatred").

Q- You say that a suicide bomber is a 'stupid bomb and a smart bomb' simultaneously. Explain what you mean.

A - Unlike an electronic device, a suicide killer has until the last second the capacity to change his mind. In reality, he is nothing but a platform representing interests which are not his, but he doesn't know it.

Q - How can we put an end to the madness of suicide bombings and terrorism in general?

A - Stop being politically correct and stop believing that this culture is a victim of ours. Radical Islamism today is nothing but a new form of Nazism. Nobody was trying to justify or excuse Hitler in the 1930s. We had to defeat him in order to make peace one day with the German people.

Q - Are these men travelling outside their native areas in large numbers? Based on your research, would you predict that we are beginning to see a new wave of suicide bombings outside the Middle East?

A - Every successful terror attack is considered a victory by the radical Islamists. Everywhere Islam expands there is regional conflict. Right now, there are thousands of candidates for martyrdom lining up in training camps in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Inside Europe, hundreds of illegal mosques are preparing the next step of brain washing to lost young men who cannot find a satisfying identity in the Occidental world. Israel is much more prepared for this than the rest of the world will ever be. Yes, there will be more suicide killings in Europe and the U.S. Sadly, this is only the beginning.

El Salvador to move embassy from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv

SAN SALVADOR - El Salvador will move its embassy in Israel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, the country's foreign ministry said on Friday.

El Salvador would have been the only country in the world left with an embassy in Jerusalem after Costa Rica announced on August 16 it would pull its diplomatic mission out of the city.

A U.S. ally which has a small contingent of troops in Iraq, El Salvador is governed by conservative President Tony Saca, who is of Palestinian Christian descent.

"Considering the current situation in the Middle East, El Salvador has decided to move its diplomatic representation in the state of Israel," the ministry said in a statement.

Israel gives up on disarming Hizbullah

Israel has essentially given up hope of Hizbullah being disarmed, and instead is now concentrating on ensuring that an arms embargo called for in UN Security Council resolution 1701 be implemented, The Jerusalem Post has learned.
Furthermore, senior Israeli officials have made it clear in recent days during talks with foreign governments that Israel realizes a Hizbullah presence south of the Litani River is unavoidable, if for no other reason than because the organization is so well rooted there that the only way to get rid of Hizbullah would be to evacuate the entire region.
What Israel does expect, however, is that the Lebanese Army and the international force that will deploy there ensure that Hizbullah doesn't have offensive weaponry to attack Israel, and that if they do try to attack, there will be someone there to stop them.
The impression Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has left in recent days on her European counterparts during meetings both in Israel and in Europe is that Israel recognizes it is unrealistic for anyone to take away Hizbullah's weapons, and that what is most important at this time is to ensure that there is an effective embargo on any new weapons to Hizbullah.
If the embargo is not effective, Israel has made clear, it will have to act to ensure that it is.
Israel is less concerned about grenades and rifles remaining in Hizbullah's hands, and more about weaponry that gives it offensive capabilities.
Both Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Livni have told various world leaders over the last few days that Israel would not lift its air and sea blockade of Lebanon until troops of the new multinational force were on the ground at crossing points in Lebanon to ensure that Iran and Syria do not resupply Hizbullah.
The foreign ministers of the 25 EU countries are to meet on Friday in Brussels to discuss the composition of the force, and its rules of engagement.
The prospect of having to disarm Hizbullah, along with the fear of unclear rules of disengagement, have been largely responsible for European countries' reluctance to send large contingencies to the force.
France's decision Thursday night to send a 2,000-strong contingent to the force, however, is now expected to bring in its wake a greater readiness by other European countries to take part.

IDF Bekaa operation in response to violation of cease-fire

The Israeli military operation in the Bekaa on Friday night was a response to a clear violation of the cease-fire. United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, upon which the cease-fire is based, calls for a complete arms embargo against Hizbullah, and totally prohibits arms transfers from Syria and Iran to the Hizbullah terrorists. The resolution calls upon the Lebanon Army and the international forces to be stationed at the crossing points on the Lebanese-Syrian border in order to make certain that there is no violation of the embargo and no transfer of illicit weapons and munitions to Hizbullah.
Unfortunately, so far, we have not seen such an effective deployment by the Lebanon Army and an international force at the border. In such a situation of continuing arms smuggling to Hizbullah, Israel was forced to act to prevent a violation of the cease-fire, in order to curtail an undermining of the implementation of 1701 and protect its citizens from a proven threat of missile attack.
Israel cannot tolerate a situation in which Hizbullah’s long-range missile capability will be replenished and Israeli citizens will once again be the targets of barrages of Hizbullah missiles launched from Lebanese soil. Under these conditions, Israel reserves the right to act as it has, in self defense and in support of UNSCR 1701, if there are continued violations of the cease-fire in the future.

Michaël Young, éditorialiste du journal « Daily Star » de Beyrouth, l’a interviewé alors que la nouvelle guerre du Liban venait de commencer. Traduction d’extraits choisis :

« Comme je l’ai dit aux Américains, aussi longtemps que la Syrie pourra envoyer des armes au Hezbollah, il n’y aura pas de changement de la situation. Pas avec ce régime à Damas. Nous avons besoin d’une force internationale qui couvre l’ensemble du Liban, comme au Kosovo. Surveillez la frontière syrienne, et parlez ensuite. »

« Si le Hezbollah refuse de désarmer, nous allons entrer dans une phase de guerre sans limites, avec le risque d’affaiblissement de l’état libanais (...) Je doute que l’on voit une force multinationale s'il continue de résister à Israël. Si Nasrallah s’en sort par une victoire, il dictera ses conditions à l’état libanais - s’il accepte encore l’état. »« Nasrallah attend, comme le Président de l’Iran Ahmadinejad, le 12ième Imam, le « Mahdi ». Cet aspect de la mobilisation religieuse chiite est effrayant. »

« Les destructions que nous avons supportées ne valaient pas la capture de deux israéliens, le fait d’avoir une armée privée, de décider de déclarer la Paix ou la Guerre. Mais il faudrait que cela soit un chiite qui le dise à Nasrallah ».« Oui, j’ai entendu des rumeurs sur des Iraniens combattant aux côtés du Hezbollah. Je crois à ces histoires ».

« J’ai peur qu’à cause du chaos au Liban aujourd’hui, la Syrie essaye d’assassiner des gens ici, moi y compris, mais aussi le Premier Ministre Siniora (...) Ou il survivra, ou nous devrons accepter le coup d’état fomenté par la Syrie et l’Iran ».

Refuser le Hezbollah, ce n'est pas refuser aux Palestiniens et aux Libanais leurs droits nationaux, imprescriptibles; c'était encore moins bombarder par plaisir des populations civiles innocentes; ce n'est pas non plus une tentative pour mater l'islam ou pour prendre une revanche contre Saladin.
C'est une réponse à une question fort différente: ceux qui vivent libres, en Europe comme au Liban, peuvent-ils accepter, à leurs portes ou dans leurs villages, la présence d'armes au service d'une idéologie totalitaire, annonçant ouvertement son objectif: détruire leur civilisation ?
En octobre 1962, face à l'arrivée de fusées soviétiques à Cuba, les frères Kennedy n'ont pas laissé faire, et nous avons eu la paix.
En juillet 2006, face à l'arrivée de fusées syro-iraniennes sur les plages de Méditerranée, quelle va être notre réaction?
- les accepter, sous prétexte qu'elles prétendent soutenir la cause palestinienne, serait rendre un mauvais service aux plaestiniens.
- les tolérer, sous prétexte qu'Israël est armé par les Américains, serait mettre les armes d'une démocratie, même dominante, sur le même pied que celles d'une dictature qui rêve de le devenir.
- les ignorer, sous prétexte que l'essentiel du pétrole dont se nourrit l'Occident ne passe pas loin de toute cette affaire, serait faire un marché de dupes.
Il est donc urgent de placer les dirigeants arabes devant leurs responsabilités.
Acceptent-ils la séparation des pouvoirs religieux et politique? Sont-ils décidés à refuser la présence sur leur sol de milices terroristes? Sont-ils prêts à mettre réellement en place les forces internationales qui aideront les peuples pris en otages à les faire disparaître?
Ils se tromperaient s'ils croyaient, en répondant négativement, échapper à la colère de leurs opinions et se faire respecter par la communauté internationale: ils ne feraient que retarder leur chute, qui viendra, sous les coups des alliés des ayatollahs, derrière lesquels se cache aussi l'antique opposition arabo-perse.
Et? un jour, ces fusées, qui visent aujourd'hui Haïfa et Tel-Aviv, seront pointées sur Le Caire, Riyad, Istanbul, Tunis, Alger, Casablanca, avant de l'être sur Rome, Madrid, Londres et Paris.
L'heure de vérité approche. Il va falloir choisir son camp
