The 94th anniversary of 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, yesterday evening, the Lantern Procession was organized by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, and 30 thousand people walked with Turkish flags from Konyaaltı Beachpark to the Republic Square.

The night continued with Kayahan concert.

Today, We wholeheartedly celebrate May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day in Turkey!!!

The Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day in Turkey features state ceremonies and sports events throughout the country on May 19 each year.

Atatürk was born in 1881. But his birth date is not known. In one of his speeches, he declared that he considers his birthday as May 19, in clear reference to the beginning of the national struggle in 1919.

What do we do?

In the run-up to the May 19 celebrations, young Turkish athletes carry the national flag from Samsun, a Black Sea port from where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk started Turkey’s War of Independence in 1919, to Ankara, the country’s capital. The marathon usually takes about 10 days. The Turkish president accepts the flag at a ceremony on May 19.

Various sports events take place on May 19 throughout Turkey. Many people celebrate this day by watching athletes perform at their local stadiums or by participating in sports events that are open to the public, such as half-marathons. University students usually prepare special programs for their teachers and parents on this day.

Many Turks also observe May 19 as Atatürk’s birthday. Although the exact date of his birth is not known, Atatürk used to say he was born on May 19 (referring to his political career). Many people lay wreaths to Atatürk’s monuments and hang Turkish flags outside their windows.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Antalya Governorship, Historic Cities Association (MOA), Anadolu University, and the Municipality of Side restoration of Temple of Tyche was finished in one year, and was opened with a ceremony.

Temple of Tyche is a round building in Agora. It is erected in the name of the Goddess Fortuna in AD 2 century.

In order to reduce tanker traffic from Konyaaltı to Antalya Airport, the Governor Altıparmak developed a pipeline project from Kepez to the Airport. Actually, it was an existing NATO pipeline, but he provided that transportation of fuels of planes by the pipeline.

As a result, reduced tanker traffic in the Gulf of Antalya, and prevented pollution of the sea.

Airshow Side is Turkey's the only air show that takes place on a regular basis. The Airshow Side will be held on 25-26 May in Side.

The program of Airshow Side is organized by Side Municipality and organized under the leadership of world's leading aerobatics pilots Ali İsmet Öztürk, includes exciting aerobatic flights, parachute jumps, helicopter model, events such as demonstrtions and solo show of excitement on the Turkish F-16.

This year Russian aerobatic pilot Svetlana Kapanina will participate Side Airshow. She is World Aerobatic Champion in the women's category in 1996, 1998, 2001, 2003, and 2005, and has won the title more times than any other pilot in the category. Additionally, she was overall World Air Games Champion in 1997 and 2001.

Jurgis Kairys

In addition, Jurgis Kairys will participate Side Airshow, who is a Lithuanian aerobatic pilot and aeronautical engineer. He has won many awards for his flying and has invented several maneuvers, including the "Kairys Wheel." He helped develop the Sukhoi Su-26, -29, and -31 aerobatic aircraft, and also has manufactured his own aerobatic aircraft, called the "Juka." The 7th International Antalya Sand Sculpture Festival

Antalya's Sand Sculpture is one of the world's largest sand sculpture events. the International Sand Sculpture Festival in Antalya will welcome its visitors on May 1, 2013. It can be visited from 10 am to 11pm every day until November 17, 2013.

Sand-statues made by 20 sculptors from 10 countries were offered in Lara Beach.

The concept of festival in this year is “Emperorships”.

The sand-statues of people who left their marks in history were springed to life. 20 emperorships were animated with statues more than 100.

Within the festival, sand-statues of people such as Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Queen Elizabeth of Britain, Friedich Barbarossa, Sarses the King of Persia, Napoleon, Ceasear, Fatih Sultan Mehmet are being exhibited.

In festival where special sand of more than 10 thousand tons, especially led-lighted sand-statues create magnific view in nights.

This year's Europe Day activities in Antalya will be held town of Kaleici with the participation of Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen BAGIS on Monday, May 13, 2013.

How to take advantage of your time in Antalya

Antalya was until recently known as Turkey’s fastest growing city, only to be overtaken by Istanbul. It has been frequently called the ‘Turkish Riviera’ for its gorgeous Mediterranean coastline with long stretches of golden sand and aquamarine waters, upmarket shopping areas, rich history and culture and luxury hotels. Many tourists come from all around the globe to visit the sights of Antalya, so how should you take advantage of your time there?

If you want to see a lot of things and get around easily, the best time of year to visit the region is between March and June or September and November. Due to the Mediterranean climes, the temperatures can soar during the high season of July and August, plus families flock there on summer holidays. The winters are cooler, protected from the chilly weather by the Taurus Mountains, but often are very wet. You’ll also need to base yourself somewhere central in order to be able to reach everything you want to see and do quickly and easily. There are many hotels located in Antalya such as the Adonis Hotel with spectacular views from the cliff edges, or the tiny boutique hotels nestled in amongst the Kaleici old town of Antalya. If you choose to stay here, take some time to wander the maze of streets and pop down to the harbour for a boat trip along the coastline where you’ll explore hidden coves and be offered freshly grilled fish.

Of course you’ll want to spend some time relaxing on the beautiful beaches of the Antalya region, but remember to take some time to visit a few other things that Antalya has to offer. Golf is something that’s very big here with a number of golf courses set against stunning backdrops situated in the area.

The rich history is one of the biggest draws of Antalya. The old town is surrounded by ancient stone walls made up of an old Clock Tower and Hadrian’s Gate, a series of Roman arches. Head a little way out of town to Aspendos, a stunningly well preserved theatre that dates back to Roman times.

If you’re travelling with kids, there are plenty of things to keep them occupied too. When they’ve tired of playing on the beach and taking part in some of the many water sports on offer, take them to Mini-City amusement park. In around 55 acres, it houses miniature models of buildings and architectural structures from all around Turkey, both ancient and modern. Marvel at the amazing replica of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus and the Celsus Library of Ephesus.

Don’t forget to sample some of the local cuisine too. Turkey is famous for its mixed pot of tastes from Central Asian flavours to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern. Meze is one of the favourite dishes for tourists because it offers something to everyone’s tastes. But if you’d like to sample a local speciality, find a street vendor selling mussels stuffed with pine nuts or patlican dolmasi, a popular stuffed aubergine dish.

The First Golf Tournament of SKAL Antalya will be held between 08-12 May 2013 in Cyristal Tat Beach Golf Resort in Belek in Antalya.

Skal international, is the only organisation that brings together all levels in travel and tourism. In Skal, there are people from all walks of life, from managers to senior officials. Skal meet on local and national platforms to discuss common matters in the world of tourism today.

Skal, consisting of senior members and professionals of the tourism industry is an international non-governmental organisation. It has 20,000 members of around 500 clubs in 87 countries worldwide, which are connected to the Headquarters of Skal international in Torremolinos, Spain. In Turkey, There are clubs in Denizli, Fethiye, Bodrum, Izmir, Marmaris, Bursa, Cukurova, Kapadokya, Kusadasi, Alanya, Ankara, Istanbul and Antalya. Additionally Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya clubs all have a group of young professional individuals called Young Skal. These Young Skal Members get the chance to meet, socialise ask for advice and guidance and learn more about their work environment with the senior members of Skal who are at the same time senior professionals in the travel and tourism sector.

Antalya Skal Club, was founded in 1988 by senior professionals of the tourism sector in Antalya. In parallel with the rapid growth in the tourism sector in Antalya, numbers of members in the Club soon grew just as the fast with the amount of professionals coming working in the tourism sector. Today, Antalya Skal Club is the third largest in the country.

Antalya Skal club formed one of the first Young Skal clubs in the world in 1998, then in 2002, Skal Alanya did the same. This shows that our country has contributed to the expansion of the family of Skal. Skal Antalya hosted the meeting of the council of Skal international, whilst in 2007, Antalya successfully hosted the 68th Skal World Congress, an introduction of a unique contribution to our country in an international area.

The 12th International Kemer Underwater Days

The 12th International Kemer Underwater Days will be held between May 16 and 19.

International Kemer Underwater Days (IKUD) is a week of activities organized jointly by the Center for Mediterranean Underwater Archeological Research (AASAM) (www.aasam.net) and the Foundation for the Promotion of Kemer (KETAV) (www.ketav.org) , whose goal is to introduce to the world the natural and the archeological beauties of the deep waters of Kemer - Antalya (Turkey) in the Mediterranean. This activity is a member of EUIFA and the partner of UNEP/MAP – Info RAC.

International Kemer Underwater Days contains many of activity and a meeting program on underwater imaging and underwater archaeology. It also contains underwater photography and videography competitions which happen in the crystal waters of Kemer at every year in May.

Establishers of the IKUD are Aydin Aytug and Hakan Oniz. General Secretary of KETAV Filiz Ceylan and underwater archaeologist Demet Canimoglu also are in the organization as organizer from the beginning until now.

Presidents of IKUD are Mustafa Calik and Aydin Aytug in behalf of KETAV and Hakan Oniz in behalf of AASAM. Filiz Ceylan is the coordinator and Demet Canimoglu is the organizing director of the IKUD.

12th International Kemer Underwater Days consists of the following activities to realize the goal of the foundations mentioned above:

1. Underwater imaging competitions;

2. Underwater documentary and film projections;

3. 10th International meeting on underwater archeology;

4. Exhibitions of underwater photography;

5. Competition and exhibitions of Children drawings;

6. “ARCHAEOLOGIST METIN PEHLIVANER award ceremony” by the Mediterranean Underwater Archaeological Research Center for those people who has had invaluable contributions to the underwater archeology of Turkey .
