When Antalya City Blog asked me a couple weeks ago to write about my love and connection to Turkey, a place that I have never ever been before had me thinking a lot, for days if am honest, because what could I write? What could I say of a culture that I really don't know like a native does, then I said why not? Maybe this is my chance to finally put the pieces together. Pieces that I'm trying to figure it out day by day.

So here I go, my first attempt to write in my own words why my love, respect and connection with Turkey and for Turkey.

Let's start saying that if you're a believer of past life's or DNA testing like I do, I'm the perfect candidate for a research because I'm 99.9% sure that I was Turkish in the past, even people ask me Are you Turkish? Have you been there before? Do you have Turkish descendants in your family? How do you know that? Did you really understand what they're saying? Well those questions are very normal to me specially these days where I let myself go after the answers I need to get.

So saying that which other way you can explain me that I know, I feel, I understand, I respect and I love the culture, the language, the costumes, the land, the food, the people, the places, how can you explain me then? Maybe is deja vu or whatever you want to call it, how can you explain it to me that I feel peace deep within when I think of plant my roots in a land that to many people is not safe or good enough these day... What a joke right? because let's be honest who's safe now? NOBODY right? So every time I read or I hear the news saying something negative about a country that's not even mine hurts me deeply inside, when attacks or vicious news try to put down a population that in majority are so kind, warm and totally awesome hurts me, it really does, so not because a group of insurgents trying to destroy what's good means that everybody is the same way. So no that's totally wrong in my book that bothers me as much as people saying that all Muslims are terrorists or support terrorism, oh god give me patience to deal with those ignorant comments.

Now let's not even talk about people, because who would it have told me that I was going to love my good friends Ceren, Nigar, Oznur and some others names I can't mention here, the way I love and care for them like they're my own family, nobody really because what started as a connection thought Instagram look where it took us. Oh did I mentioned before that we don't know each other personally yet? No? Well now you know .. That's the power of FaceTime, love or God's perfect plans of reason and lesson in life. Who would it have thought that I'm working my ways to learn a third language just because I'm going there next year on vacations and then when I finish some stuff here and there maybe plan a possible moving to Antalya or Istanbul ... Inşallah!! Yes, you did read correctly, move to Turkey. My family and friends believe I'm crazy, I really don't care what they think because if one thing i have learned in my almost 34 years of life is that you do what makes you whole and happy without worry about what others think, you can't pleased others and sacrifice your happiness just because.

So that been said I do desperately want to move there, know how is it feels to enjoy a cup of tea by the ocean while a balmy breeze blows my hair, I want to feel how is it to wake up in Asia and end up your day in Europe, I want to know how is it feels to enjoy a real baklava with coffee while my friends are sitting next to me chatting by the peer, I want to know how is it feels to swing in the crystal waters of the sea and then lay down and enjoy the sun under a cabana in Antalya, I want to know how is it feels to be able to order a meal on a restaurant in fluent Turkish, I want to walk Beyoğlu, Bebek Ortaköy, ride a ferry, feed the birds and cats and dogs, i want to open my own business and develop my career there, I want to buy a house, I want to enjoy the sunsets by the ocean I am even open to the possibility of know what is it feels to fall in love, i want to teach my son to love and respect turkey the same way I do, in general i want so many things and all of them I want them there.

So when you think of a woman that was born in Venezuela raised in Colombia and proud American that dream of living in Turkey so she can spend the rest of her adult years, think of me, because that's one of my dreams and I know I'll make it real. So Turkey, wait for me, stay strong and free because one day soon I'll be proud of calling you my home, my heart, my country...inşallah!!!!

What Exactly Is A Hashtag?

EXPO 2016 ANTALYA horticultural exhibition site is located in the City of Antalya, Aksu District, within the limits of the Solak Village, directly across from the West Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute (BATEM), 17 km from the city centre.

A light rail transportation system running from the city centre of Antalya to the EXPO 2016 ANTALYA Botanic exhibition site is currently under construction. After reaching Alanya, located 44km from Gazipaşa, it is possible to access the EXPO 2016 Antalya exhibition site via intercity buses departing which depart from Antalya every thirty minutes.

Arriving to EXPO 2016 Antalya from Kalkan

It is possible to reach the exhibition area by intercity buses from Kalkan, located is 220 km from Antalya. The transportation is provided by vehicles departing to the EXPO 2016 Antalya exhibition site from the city centre, after reaching Konyaaltı Region or Antalya Bus Terminal.

Expo 2016 Antalya is a non-commercial World Exposition with some very unique and innovative features. For the first time in the history of world fairs, the theme of a World Expo is flowers and children: A Green Life For Future Generations. This theme will unite over 51 participants into action around the challenges and opportunities facing our global ecological system and the sustainable development of our planet.

Running for 190 days (from 23 April to 30 October), this giant exhibition site, covering 0 hectares of Expo land, 4 main areas called Expo Hill, Expo Forest, Expo Pond and Expo Tower are going to be visited by millions of tourists. We are proud to announce our new mission!

AntalyaCityBlog's New Mission will be to introduce people in the city of #Antalya to the concept of #SmartCity.

Yet many people may not be aware of the next phase in 21st century surveillance grid; the 'smarter city'.

Why the smart city? The benefits of pursuing a smart city strategy are manyfold. Harvard Business School academics Rosabeth Moss Kanter and Stanley S. Litow have described a ‘smarter city manifesto’ in order to address the many problems facing city governments in particular . With a slant towards North American cities, the authors outline issues such as the silo-based structures governments ended up with at the end of the 20th century, combined with the inability of governments to stretch their services over the large sprawling distances and conditions of the contemporary city, a weakened civic leadership, and a focus on delivery rather than addressing the cause of problems (described as a lack of ‘strategic impact orientation’).

A smart city uses information and communication technologies (ICT) to enhance quality, performance and interactivity of urban services, to reduce costs and resource consumption and to improve contact between citizens and government. Sectors that have been developing smart city technology include government services, transport and traffic management, energy, health care, water and waste.

The European Union (EU) has devoted constant efforts to devising a strategy for achieving 'smart' urban growth for its metropolitan city-regions. The EU has developed a range of programmes under ‘Europe’s Digital Agenda'. In 2010, it highlighted its focus on strengthening innovation and investment in ICT services for the purpose of improving public services and quality of life. Experts estimate that the global market for smart urban services will be $400 billion per annum by 2020. Examples of Smart City technologies and programs have been implemented in Milton Keynes, Southampton, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Stockholm.

As a fastest growing city in Turkey, Antalya may become a smart city. We strongly believe that Antalya can do it!

So, our New Mission will be to introduce people in the city of #Antalya to the concept of #SmartCity and to ensure that people's demand for smart city technologies from the official authorities in Antalya.

If you want to explore the amazing archeological sites of Sagalossos, Kybra, Kremna, and Aphrodisias, the Burdur Museum is a great place to start. Many pieces from each of these sites are displayed in Burdur Archaeology Museum.

There are colossal heads of Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius, and Zeus.

1. Garden (Open Exhibition): Statues, steles, various architectural objects, tombs and tombstones, incomplete inscriptions, high embossments, etc. of Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Times are exhibited in the garden of the museum.

2. Statue Hall: Almost all of the monuments exhibited in this hall have been brought from the archaic city of Kremna within the borders of Bucak District of Burdur in the 18th century. These monuments include a Great and Lesser Athena, Hygieia, Leto, Apollo, Nemesis, Dionysos, Aphrodite and woman statues with cloths, all of high artistic value.

3. Small Monuments Hall: The monuments in this hall are arranged in chronological order. Among the monuments exhibited in this hall, there are monuments of Late Neolithic, Early and Late Chalcolithic and Early Bronze ages found in excavations carried out in Hacılar - Kuruçay - Höyücek tumuli, earthenware, painted and unpainted vessels of the Iron Age and of Prygian, Persian, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine Periods, Goddess figurines, stone and bronze axes and other tools, ornaments, cosmetic material, rhyton vessels, seals and cylindrical stamps representing ownership and legal concepts, oil - lamps and their moulds, metal god figurines, bronze athlete statues, coins, and beautiful statue findings and other small findings dicovered in excavations at the ancient city of Sagalassos, which has been one of the largest archaeological digging sites in our country these last ten years.

When Burdur Museum was built in 1956, it was small; however, it acquired a great number of monuments. As a result of the archaeological excavations (Hacılar, Kuruçay, Höyücek, İncirhan, Bubon and Sagalassos), the number of the movable cultural monuments in the museum reached 52.941 in 1997, with those obtained by confiscation, donation and purchasing. 18.521 of these monuments are archaeological, 29.765 of them are coins and 4.655 of them are ethnographical cultural monuments. It is possible to find the most beautiful exsamples of all ages and periods, starting from the Neolithic Age.

Especially, no visit to Sagalassos would be complete without checking the Archaeological Museum at Burdur.

In 2008, Burdur Museum was awarded a special prize at the European Museum of the Year Award.

Admission to the Archaeology Museum in Burdur is just 5 Turkish Lira. The Museum is open daily (except Mondays) 08.30–17.30 (Winter Perriod / October 16 - April 14) and 09.00-19.00 (Summer Perriod / April 15 - October 15)

G20 Antalya Summit 2015

G20 leaders' summit will be held in Antalya, Turkey.

The summit will be held in Antalya on November 15-16, 2015. Global economy, strengthened growth and job creation will be taken up at the summit in Turkey. The 2015 G-20 Turkey summit will be the tenth meeting of the G-20 heads of government.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit, hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will be held in Antalya on 15 – 16 November.

Azerbaijan, Spain, Malaysia, Senegal, Singapore and Zimbabwe will also participate in the Antalya Summit together with the G20 members.

Approximately 13 thousand guests—of which 2,469 are media members—will participate in the two-day summit.

More than 70 meetings, including the ones at a ministerial level, have been held under the Turkish Presidency since 1 December.

The three main themes of this year’s G20 Summit were chosen as “inclusiveness, investment and implementation” based on the Turkish Presidency’s priorities. Within this framework, strengthening the global economy and making it more inclusive, deepening the dialogue and cooperation between G20 countries and Low Income Developing Countries (LIDCs), sustainable development, increasing investments, and implementation and follow-up on G20 commitments will be the main topics discussed in the Summit this year.

The Summit will commence with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s welcoming ceremony of the G20 Leaders on 15 November and will continue with a working lunch in which the topics of development and climate change will be discussed. During the Summit, apart from the sessions that will gather leaders, the “Women-20” engagement group formed during the Turkish G20 Presidency will be represented.

Following the reception that Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu will host in honour of the Leaders and Spouses, there will be a working dinner hosted by President Erdoğan on the topic of “Global Challenges: Terrorism and the Refugee Crisis”.

On the second day of the Summit, financial regulations, the international tax agenda, anti-corruption actions and IMF reforms will be evaluated in the “Increasing Resilience” session. After this, during a working lunch, trade and energy issues will be discussed and the Antalya Action Plan will be adopted.

The Summit will conclude with a presentation given by the Chinese President, who will assume the 2016 G20 Presidency.

Finally, the results of the Antalya Summit will be announced globally with a press conference by the Turkish President.

What is G20?

The Group of Twenty (also known as the G-20 or G20) is an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from 20 major economies. The members, shown highlighted on the map at right, include 19 individual countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States—along with the European Union (EU).

The G-20 was founded in 1999 with the aim of studying, reviewing, and promoting high-level discussion of policy issues pertaining to the promotion of international financial stability. It seeks to address issues that go beyond the responsibilities of any one organization. Collectively, the G-20 economies account for around 85% of the gross world product (GWP), 80% of world trade (or, if excluding EU intra-trade, 75%), and two-thirds of the world population. The G-20 heads of government or heads of state have periodically conferred at summits since their initial meeting in 2008.

Antalya will also host EXPO 2016.

Turkey's First Solar Powered Stadium Opens in Antalya

SEISO Energy completed the project which has a capacity of 1,4 MWp.

13,000 square meters of solar panels will provide electric for the stadium and be able to feed the city grid with any excess electricity generated.

In the stadium, there are almost 6.000 photovoltaic solar panels and 60 inverter units.

Antalya becomes one of the solar powerhouses of the nation, this world-class project will surely drive the region more towards utilizing solar energy.

Expected to generate yearly 2,150 MWh electricity, the project was initiated according to Antalya Youth and Sports City Directorate’s two 700 kW unlicensed PV plant application.

Good and Bad Aspects of Turkish Pavilion in EXPO 2015 Milano

Generally, people liked the Turkish Pavilion in the EXPO 2015 Milano. There was a nice atmosphere. From architecture point of view it nicely combines modern and tradition.

Staff is very nice too and good quality restaurant. We would say the pavillion is informative and focused on the past, the historical side.

If we compare with other pavilions we found very appealing (such as UAE, Japan, Germany, Qatar). Most people really love technology and not interested with the history. Because of this, the most visited pavilions in Expo 2015 Milano are UAE, Japan, Germany and Qatar. They focused on the future and technology. Yes, EXPO is not a technology fair, but green tech, green agriculture, green energy issues are really interesting and related with EXPO.

Turkey uses more traditional supports (texts, videos, art) where our other exemples used more sophisticated technologies such as 4D, augmented reality, etc with a view to the future rather than the past. But, the idea of placing EXPO 2016 Antalya Stand in Turkish Pavilion in EXPO 2015 Milano is good for giving info about EXPO 2016 & Antalya.

Past vs future is the main category we would rank the pavilions we visited.But it's a very personal point of view and doesn't influence on the quality of the pavilion. It's just different.

Based on the waiting time to enter pavilions, the most visited should be Japan, UAE, Germany.

These were the ones we preferred too because you could see there was a communication strategy, they have a show, high-level high-tech support, and clearly a vision of the future. we put the UAE on top of the top. They show reserach projects they are working on, etc.

Now the big difference is of course the budget every country has put in their pavilion. We also prefer high-tech, etc. but we think adults in general like both, technologies & history. Young people for sure prefer technology.

China was a mixed and Korea theme was fermentation (old) but presented in modern way with a robot show of paintings, an impressive 3D video but without special glasses, etc. :-)

He also manage the visits of EU officials to Expo, etc. He told us he would like to use his experience for next expos like Kazakstan in 2017.

As you know, next year the EXPO 2016 will be held in Antalya. This year EXPO organization held in Milano, Italy. We just want to see the EXPO 2015 Milano to gain experience for EXPO 2016 Antalya.

What is EXPO?

EXPO is a large public exhibition. These exhibitions vary in character and are held in varying parts of the world. The current world's fair is Expo 2015 in Milano, Italy.

Since the entering into force of the 1928 Convention Relating to International Exhibitions, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE; English: International Exhibitions Bureau) has served as an international sanctioning body for world's fairs. BIE-approved fairs are of three types: universal, international, and specialized.

They usually last from three weeks to six months. World's fairs originated in the French tradition of national exhibitions, a tradition that culminated with theFrench Industrial Exposition of 1844 held in Paris. This fair was soon followed by other national exhibitions in continental Europe, and eventually the United Kingdom. In 2016, it will be held in Antalya, Turkey.

Sagalassos is one of the best-preserved ancient cities in Turkey. Only 7km from Ağlasun, it has been excavated since 1990 by archaeologists from the University of Leuven, Belgium. Local people from Ağlasun have worked on the archaeological excavations and restorations since they began. The beautiful site and its restored monuments are perfect examples of their hard work and talent.

The ancient city of Sagalassos Entry Fee 10 TL per person.

Today at Sagalassos visitors can see an impressive ancient city square (agora) with a restored and functioning monumental fountain, gateway arches and 13m high honorary columns. The site features a huge Roman bath complex, library, urban mansion with more than 80-rooms, and theatre with seating for up to 9000 people, as well as other monuments from the city’s 1000-year history. Excavated finds -some unique and famous- can be seen at the Burdur Museum.

Conquered by Alexander the Great in 333 BC, Sagalassos flourished after joining the Roman Empire in 25 BC. The city was an export center for pottery and agricultural products throughout antiquity. Named the Metropolis of Pisidia, Sagalassos underwent a period of unprecedented building activity that began during the reign of Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD) and endowed the city with the monuments visitors see today.

The city declined after earthquakes and a plague in the 600s. Sagalassos survives today in Ağlasun, whose name is derived from the ancient city. Ağlasun was established in the 13th century under the Selçuk dynasty, when a caravansaray and hamam were built near the current town square. It was a thriving center in the 16th century, when it hosted a regional market.

In 1706, Paul Lucas, traveling in southwest Turkey on a mission for the court of Louis XIV, came upon the mountaintop ruins of Sagalassos. The first Westerner to see the site, Lucas wrote that he seemed to be confronted with remains of several cities inhabited by fairies. Later, during the mid-nineteenth century, William Hamilton described it as the best preserved ancient city he had ever seen. Toward the end of that century, Sagalassos and its theater became famous among students of classical antiquity. Yet large scale excavations along the west coast at sites like Ephesos and Pergamon, attracted all the attention. Gradually Sagalassos was forgotten...until a British-Belgian team led by Stephen Mitchell started surveying the site in 1985.

Since 1990, Sagalassos has become a large-scale, interdisciplinary excavation of the Catholic University of Leuven, directed by Marc Waelkens. We are now exposing the monumental city center and have completed, or nearly completed, four major restoration projects there. We've also undertaken an intensive urban and geophysical survey, excavations in the domestic and industrial areas, and an intensive survey of its vast territory. Whereas the former document a thousand years of occupation, from Alexander the Great to the seventh century, the latter has established the changing settlement patterns, the vegetation history and farming practices, the landscape formation and climatic changes during the last 10,000 years.

How to Reach Ağlasun

With Your Own Transportation

Ağlasun is easy to reach with your own vehicle. Roads are good but drivers should carry tire chains between October and April in case of snow.

From Antalya City Center (115 km, 1:15): take Highway D650 towards Burdur for 83km, and then turn east toward Ağlasun on Highway D685.

From Lara or Eastern Antalya: take Highway D685 towards Isparta. After 96km, a clearly marked turnoff directs you to Ağlasun (130km, 1:30).

From Burdur (35 km, 0:45): take Highway D650 south towards Antalya until you see the left-hand turnoff for Ağlasun.

From Isparta (40 km, 0:45): take Highway D685 south towards Antalya and take the right-hand turnoff for Ağlasun.

By Public Transportation

Regular minibuses go to Ağlasun from nearby Antalya, Burdur, and Isparta. Look for the minibuses that say ‘Ağlasun/Sagalassos’.

From the Antalya Otogar: go to the İlçe Terminali (Provincial Terminal), across the outdoor breezeway from the main hall. The Ağlasun Coop buses leave at 11:00, 15:30, and 17:45. The coop doesn’t have an office, so look for the minibuses outside. You can also take the Bucak Coop minibuses to the town of Bucak (10/day, 1:30), and then from Bucak to Ağlasun (10/day, 0:45).

From Burdur: Ağlasun Coop minibuses leave from the otogar (10/day, 00:50)

From Isparta: minibuses for Ağlasun leave from the Köy Garajı (Village Terminal) 15 times per day (0:50). Note: the Köy Garajı is not at the main Otogar; take a service bus or a taxi between the two.

How to Reach Sagalassos from Ağlasun

If you arrive in Ağlasun by car or taxi, a scenic and winding road going up the mountain will guide you to the ancient city. Entrance to the archaeological site is about 7km north of the town centre.

If you arrive in Ağlasun by minibus, you can ask at the office of the minibus cooperation about the possibility of taking another one up to the site. www.aglasunkoop.com

Usually a taxi is also available and can be found parked near the monumental plane tree in the town centre.

Another alternative to get to Sagalassos from Ağlasun is to go by foot. We recommend you take the route described in the booklet Exploring Ağlasun rather than taking the asphalt road to the site.

Three-time Champions League winner Samuel Eto'o has came to Antalya and joined Antalyaspor.

Hundreds of Antalyaspor's fans went to Antalya International Airport to see Samuel Eto'o. This transfer has reached the name of Antalya and Antalyaspor at the top in international arena. All the world newspapers wrote about this super transfer.

Its a night of plenty of transfer announcements and Antalyaspor have provided their own. The Scorpions have confirmed the signing of Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o on a three-year deal. We are very excited and We think Antalyaspor is the perfect home for him. The fans will make him ready and feel sharp.

Who is Samuel Eto'o?

Samuel Eto'o is the former Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Everton and striker. Africa's number 1 football player and one of the best football players in the world.

Eto'o enjoyed much of his success at Barca, where he was from 2004 to 2009.

His trophies there included three La Liga crowns, alongside former Brazil forward Ronaldinho, and two Champions League titles.

He also won the Champions League, under coach Jose Mourinho, at Inter Milan in 2010, and has an Olympic gold medal, which he won with Cameroon in 2000.
