Beaver Toyota Sets The Bar For Customer Service!

So, I found my self in need of a new vehicle and only a short time to find one. I did a Google search and saw a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee for sale at an unbelievable price on Yahoo Motors. It was 9:00 PM at night, but I decided to call expecting to leave a message when to my surprise someone answered the phone!

Aspen Leaf, Master Certified Sales Consultant answered my phone call! Yes, Aspen Leaf is his real name! I was surprised I got a person and not a machine--I couldn't believe it! So, I asked him if the Jeep was still available, to which he replied, "It is, but let me make sure it's on the lot." Less then a minute later, I got a confirmation that the Jeep was still available. So, I asked him if I could see the Jeep the next day, he was more than happy to show me the vehicle. I told him that if I was going to purchase the vehicle I needed to ride the Road Runner up to Santa Fe, so I asked him if he would be willing to pick me up at one of the stations--without hesitation he said yes. He told me that the second to the last stop would be the best.

So, let's review, I call at 9:00 PM, get a sales man and have a ride from the train station to just look at a vehicle for sale. I thinking WOW! Then I get back to reality and ask, why is the Jeep priced lower than others that I have researched? Aspen tells me that it is a wholesale vehicle. What's that? Well, it's a vehicle that has enough issues that they cannot sell it at retail value. Looking at the photos, I couldn't see anything wrong with the vehicle. So, I ask what's wrong and Aspen tells me that it has some dents that are not showing up on the photos well and that there are some mechanical issues. I then ask him if he could come down about $500 to meet my asking price--he does!

I have to see this vehicle! So, my girlfriend Pamela Gonzalez--love you baby--drives me up to Santa Fe to see the Jeep. I walk up to this gentleman about 6'4" tall and ask if he could direct me Aspen, he turns around and say's I'm Aspen! Great! Let's go look at the Jeep! We get there and the Jeep is immaculate! It has leather seats that are electric and heated. The carpet is clean and the stereo has a 10 disk changer in the rear. I look under the vehicle and it looks like it just rolled off the assembly line! I then pop the hood and the engine is show car clean! So, I ask again, what is wrong with this vehicle? Aspen proceeds to tell me that it has a bad pinion bearing, some dents on the body, a leak between the transfer case and the transmission and a leak at the timing case. I'm thinking to myself, that's all--I think I can handle that! Let's go for a test drive!

We take the Jeep out on the freeway, man this thing has power! I have the air cranked to the point that I'm getting cold--it's June! I'm doing about 55 MPH and I punch it! Boom, we take of like a rocket! Aspen didn't even flinch, he say's it's got great power! My babe is getting giddy with excitement and so am I. We get back to the dealership and I want to finalize this deal! Aspen says, "I know you have financing from your bank, but if it's OK with you, let's see if we can get you a better deal! Sure, why not.

Aspen proceeds to talk to Jay Hickey, who actually finds me a better deal on financing! Pinch me because this is too good to be true, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop--it never does! Jay walks me through the contract, answering any questions I had.

I still cannot believe that we are this close to buying an awesome Jeep! I signed the final signature and Jay tells me that I need to get the emissions test to them as soon as possible--no problem!

I walk outside and this is what I see!

Aspen and Jay made the purchase of my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee a joyful and pain-free experience! They went above and beyond to make sure that my needs were met! If you are in the market for a new or used vehicle, I highly recommend Beaver Toyota in Santa Fe, New Mexico! The customer service I received was outstanding! We never had a long wait and all of our questions were answered!

Breaking Bad Season 4 Starts - July 17, 2011

When we last saw our heroes or villains depending on your perspective, Jessie was about to pull the trigger and Walter (standing defiantly) once again transforms into Heisenberg. Heisenberg, Walter's alter-ego saves the day. In season three Walter comes to realize, he is the bad guy, while at the same time Jessie tries to do the right thing. The two main characters changed roles and in doing so will never be the same again.

When Walter started this adventure, he was a meek, timid--boring man. As Season four of Breaking Bad begins, Walter White is anything but boring. He has stolen, lied, and killed. Walter's intentions were good, make money for his family before he dies of cancer, but Walter didn't stop there--he saw that what he was doing was becoming--a man of power! While Walter was becoming Heisenberg, his family was falling apart. The sole purpose of his transformation into a criminal was to protect his family and now he doesn't even have that. He was slowly seduced, like Darth Vader in Star Wars, into becoming Heisenberg--the bad guy.

Walter has discovered things about himself that he didn't know existed within him. He has also discovered that his wife also has a dark side! Walt Jr., who is unaware of his mother and father's transgressions is slowly isolating and becoming frustrated, a possible ticking time-bomb himself. Will he break bad too?

Breaking Bad Season 4!

Season 4 of Breaking Bad is just around the corner, are you as excited as I am? The new season begins on July 17 at 10 PM 9 Central! At the end of season 3 Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul is staring in anguish, pointing a gun at the camera because of the task he has to do--then he fires the gun. Season 3 was by far the most action packed and nail biting season of Breaking Bad, but the long wait for season 4 is almost over! Soon we will see our favorite characters deal with the situations they find themselves in, good, bad or ugly!

Hangover II Review

Ok, so I was able to get passes to see an advanced screening of, "The Hangover II", and let me tell you--I was not disappointed. Hangover II takes it to the next level of crazy! Now I personally think the first movie was better, I was more involved in the adventure, but Hangover II can stand on it's own! They follow the same formula as the first and that created scenes that were somewhat predictable. I say somewhat, because you think you know what might happen and you soon realize that it's not what you thought (the next level of crazy)!

I'm not going to give anything away, but I have to say that I loved the scene when Stu, played by Ed Helms, creates another memorable song about their adventures. I'm keeping my comments to a minimum, because I do not want to give away any scenes. Hangover II stars:

I Attended Disney's Approach To Quality Service!

Facilitator David Mulvey Demonstrates the Disney Point

Today I had the opportunity to attend Disney's Approach To Quality Service! I was excited because I have been wanting to attend one of Disney Institute's seminars for quite some time! I am a business major and Disney has a great reputation in the business world for best practices. I work for the University of New Mexico, which allows for tuition remission to attend continuing education classes.

Our facilitator's for the day were Jeff Noel and Kendal Jolly--this was the first time they worked together--more on that in a bit. Jeff and Kendal made a great team, in fact it appeared me that they have been a team for a while. I guess that just shows how the Disney Culture allows for creativity and adaptation!

The key to quality service is to exceed guest's expectations by paying attention to the details! In the Disney Institute they use a compass to help guide their way to quality service. The North end of the compass stands for Needs, the East stands for Emotions, the South stands for Stereo types and the West stands for Wants.

We also learned about the Disney Quality Standards, which are Safety, Courtesy, Show and Efficiency. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes in the world of Disney. We learned about going the extra inch, not the extra mile. So what am I talking about when I say the extra inch. Well, Disney is a business, a very successful business. The reason why they are successful is because they do what is necessary and sustainable to please their guests!

Jeff and Kendal were talking just before the seminar and they came up with going the extra inch in place of going the extra mile. Remember, this was the first time they worked together, and together they came up with a way of explaining how to plus up and go the extra inch in a sustainable fashion. They told us a story about a pair of custodians that work at Disney and how they go the extra inch. One custodian was asked directions by a pair of pirates (a couple of boys dressed in pirate costumes). Instead of pointing them in the right direction, he lead them in an impromptu parade! It only took about 1 minute to lead them in the right direction and he was able to get back to his duties, but the family and the children will have a memory for the rest of their lives.

There was a lot to learn, Jeff and Kendal were up to the task! Review - Win Win

My girlfriend Pam got two free tickets to see Win Win yesterday. Now at first glance this is one of those movies that looks slow and boring. Well, this movie is anything but slow and boring. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an action packed, fast paced movie. Win Win is the type of movie that gets better and better as you watch it. I came a way from this movie feeling inspired!

Paul Giamitti is Mark Flaherty a lawyer with a practice that is in financial trouble. Mark moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, and his team is anything but stellar. Faced with the possibility of losing his practice, Mark makes a questionable business decision when he decides to be the guardian of Leo Poplar, played by Bert Young. This set of circumstances has Mark meet up with Kyle, played by Alex Shaffer, Leo's grandson, who he has never met. Kyle's mother, Cindy, is an alcoholic/drug addict in rehab, played by Melanie Lynskey.

Kyle, an impressive wrestler joins Marks team after enrolling in school and has an opportunity at a college scholarship. Cindy threatens to derail Kyle's chance when she shows up to take custody of Leo and take Kyle back to Ohio. Mike and his family are caught in the middle, leaving Mike with very tough decisions to make.

I really enjoyed this movie and I highly recommend it. It will leave you with the feeling that you always have a second chance to make things right. Win Win is one of those feel good movies that will stay with you long after you have seen it.

Google Health

If you are like me and want to keep track of your medical records online, well Google has a solution! Google Health, is web based solution, you are able to "Organize, track, monitor, and act on your health information with Google Health."

Right now, I have my medical records in file cabinet and also on my home computer. This is inconvenient when I'm at the ER or at a doctor other than my primary. Google Health allows me to keep my records in the cloud and it also allows me to download my files, as well as share them electronically with my doctors.

I also have elderly family members that take multiple medications and have many health issues--too many to keep track of in case of an emergency. I am able to set up multiple profiles, which allows me to keep track of those family members and ensure that emergency personnel have the most up-to-date information.

How to Fix a Leaky Bathtub Faucet.

This winter was very cold, with temperatures getting down to -12 degrees. For New Mexico, that is cold! Well, those cold temperatures caused our leaky bathtub faucet to turn into a stream of water. The bathroom is humid and we are wasting water. So, I'm going to try to save some money and fix it myself--wish me luck!

I found this set of videos on YouTube and I'm hoping that this will provide me with a good guide/map on how to fix the leak. If you have a leaky bathtub faucet, I hope this helps save you some money.

Update: 5-24-2011

I didn't trust my skills so I asked my father-in-law to help me. The handles were very hard to get off, but once they were off everything went smoothly. The seats were bad and we had to go to a specialty plumber shop to get the supplies because the faucet was about 30 years old. I have to say the steps in the video are exactly how we did our repair. Last week, Pam and I had the opportunity to stay at a wonderful B&B in Cedar Crest, NM. Elaine's Bed and Breakfast was not far from the freeway, but felt worlds away from the daily grind. Located at 72 Snowline Road, Cedar Crest, NM. This romantic B&B offers beautiful views and the rooms are clean, as well as comfortable.

The room that we stayed in had a fireplace and French doors that lead out to our own private porch. With stairs that lead to the courtyard.

Each room has it's own theme, which adds to the charm.

God Has Blessed Me!

God has blessed me because Pamela Gonzalez came into my life two years ago today! The last two years have been the best two years of my life--bar none! Don't get me wrong, we have had our ups and downs, but we have weathered the tough times by celebrating the good times. The picture above was taken on the day I first told Pam that I loved her. That day was a turning point in our relationship, that day is one that I will always remember. Pam is beautiful, smart, caring and loving.

I wake up each morning, knowing that I'm waking up next to the love of my life! My baby, as I like to call her, likes to surprise me! This anniversary wasn't any different, Pam knows me very well--I was very surprised! Unknown to me, she set up reservations at Elaine's Bed and Breakfast in Cedar Crest. My babe, as always, made a great choice when she chose Elaine's Bed and Breakfast.

I started to get suspicious, I knew my babe was up to something was up when we started to leave Albuquerque. Pam is a romantic and she chose a very romantic place to celebrate our two year anniversary. When we arrived I was awe struck, she went all out. This was the first bed and breakfast for each of us--the experience was great! What made this experience great was Pam--she makes the right choices consistently.

We got a look at our room and it was so romantic. There was a fireplace and French doors that lead out to our own secluded porch overlooking the mountains. We celebrated our love for each other and we thanked God for putting us together. I don't know what I did to deserve someone so beautiful inside and out. Pam is a true blessing from God. These last two years have been the best two years in my life.

I love you with all my heart and soul Pamela Renee Gonzalez! You are and always will be the love of my life! Thank God! Thank God you are in my life, I love you!

So, what if you don't have a LinkedIn account, you should, but what if you don't. Well, there is another option! That option is Google! With Google Sites you could create a portfilio!

What is nice about this option is that you can add files as attachments that are down-loadable and it feels like a very interactive website. You can add pages and link to other sites! He Would Have Been 23 Years Old Today.

For my son, Vincent:This blog is dedicated to my son, Vincent. I can't believe it's been two years already, since he died and not a day goes by that I don't think of him. It's funny though, I tend to remember him as a toddler. Maybe because he was my baby then. He was so independent, even as a baby, that he never really was MY baby. Vincent had a way with people, often making them feel as though they were the most important person in his life. He was so intelligent that I could never keep up with him. He believed in education and had high aspirations. He didn't ever want to leave anyone behind and although he was often way ahead of everyone else, he would always look back to check that he hadn't lost anyone. My son was someone different to everyone - often proclaiming he was "The King" in my house. He made it a point to antagonize his sister, Jessica, constantly. But he would always tell us that he loved us. I miss that most of all. And his laugh. He had such a contagious laugh that it wouldn't take long before you found yourself laughing and you wouldn't even know why. Our last holiday together was Thanksgiving that year, and he was in the garage with all the men, joking and laughing. We could hear him from inside the house when he started to laugh. It was enough to bring everyone else into the garage to see what was so funny. One of my favorite memories is of him as a toddler. I guess I had scolded him for something and didn't really think anything of it, but then I found him laying on his back on the floor, kicking the furniture with his feet. When I asked him to stop, he ignored me but made it a point to let me know he was mad at me. When I finally asked him what was wrong, he replied, "You broke my feelings!" then started sobbing. It was one of the cutest things he said as a toddler. He also had what I called his "pillow cheeks" and I loved to kiss them! He would get so annoyed with me because I was always hugging and kissing him! There are many, many good memories of Vincent!

Vincent went by many names. At home he was Vince or Vincent. Or when I was mad at him, it was Vicente. My dad called him Chente as well as my dad's side of the family. His uncles, my brothers, gave him many nicknames. Some of them stuck, like Mr. Wubbas. Vincent's cousin Tommy told me that Vincent liked the name I gave him. Vincent James. It suited him. I looked up the name Vincent and it means "conqueror". I believe he would have conquered. After Vincent passed away, I went through all of his things. I guess I was looking for a way to be closer to him, I don't know. But anyway, I found an article he wrote for school called, "Twenty Years From Now". In there he talks about where he planned to be in twenty years. He aspired to become a lawyer. Vincent James Tapia the Lawyer. Sounds good to me. But that wasn't all - he planned on becoming Governor of New Mexico as well. Vincent James Tapia, The Governor of New Mexico. I could see it, but maybe it's because he was my son and I know what capabilities he had. I often feel like the world missed out. People really didn't get a chance to see what my son could do. I don't think he would've stopped at Governor either. That was one of Vincent's things - he was never easily satisfied. I am grateful however, that I was chosen to be his mother. The experiences and memories I have will last me a lifetime! It makes me feel sorry for his dad and his family though, because they never really took an interest in him until he got older. Even then, it wasn't much. At first, they said he wasn't Albert's child, but whatever. I got the best of Vince - they missed out. But although Vincent's dad wasn't much of a presence in his life, that didn't stop him from developing into a wise and motivated young man. In fact, I think it often fed into his wants and desires. He wanted to be a dad and have many children. He wanted to right everything that was wrong. He wanted better for his future as well as those who followed behind him.

I have established a Scholarship with UNM College of Education to honor my son and to carry out his legacy. I'm hoping it will give someone the chance to accomplish their goals because my son couldn't. The scholarship is called the "Vincent James Tapia Inspirational Scholarship - Knowledge is Power". The fact that this scholarship will go on (even after I'm dead and buried), brings us hope. Just the idea of people saying his name, brings me happiness. But I believe that this is the closest I can get to helping him achieve what goals he had set for himself.

To my son, Vincent - I love you and I miss you! It's tough for me to not be with both of my children at the same time, but I know you're in a better place than all of us - probably laughing at us when we do something stupid, and wishing better for us when we make bad choices. Someday baby, I will be able to see you and hug you again! I'll be able to kiss your "pillow cheeks" and hear your laugh and see you smile! Until then baby, watch over us - because we need you! I love you Vincent - mom

Today is Vincent's birthday, he would have been 23 years old. It has been six years since his death and the pain is still as strong as the day he passed away. He would have already graduated college and started his career.

I miss him everyday and it's sad that Vincent didn't get a chance to know his nephew.

I love you Vincent James Tapia, I miss you mijito.

Today February 9, 2011 Vincent Santiago Figueroa, my great-nephew was born! My niece Jessica Maestas had a dream about her brother Vincent James Tapia, that morning she went into labor. Jessica is only 4' 9" tall and Vincent Santiago Figueroa was 7 pounds and 13 ounces and he is 20 3/4" long. Jessica is a strong woman, she was in labor for quite some time before Santi. was born. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Jessica and Santi., both of you are very strong! I look forward to meeting you Santi., I have some stories to tell you about your Uncle Vincent! I love you all, God Bless!

How Crowdsourcing Is Being Used

Have you heard about Crowdsourcing? Well, here is how Wikipedia defines Crowdsourcing:

Crowdsourcing is the act of outsourcing tasks, traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, to an undefined, large group of people or community (a crowd), through an open call.

Today I saw a link in Mashable about a crowdsourced product called the Snowdozer. The Snowdozer is an icescraper that was designed by using crowdsourcing. The company that produced the Snowdozer is called Quirky.

Quirky took suggestions using crowdsourcing and produced the Snowdozer. If enough people pre-order the product, then engineers will produce the item using CAD software and create a final version.

Can you imagine how current items could be improved or new items created that would benefit society by using society to create it? The whole world is a Think Tank!
