An Apology

I want to take a minute to apologize. I messed up and I owe it to my readers to apologize. As you may recall, I used to run a Personal Shopping Service on this blog. I am not going to make excuses, but I really dropped the ball and screwed things up with some of the girls who hired me for this service.

My life got overwhelming with some serious family issues and juggling too many things. I should have expressed this, been honest, and not continued to try to personal shop. For this, I truly apologize.

You readers have put a lot of faith in me, and you've been supportive and honest with me. I ask for nothing in return, other than a chance to say I was wrong, apologize, and I hope to move forward as a better person. I have made right with whom I needed to, but should anyone still have an issue with me, please contact me at berlyb33(at)gmail(dot)com. I will not blog until I'm sure everything has been rectified.

It's Friday!!!! In celebration of the weekend, I thought I'd share some fun Friday facts with you.

~ I am getting my hair done tonight. I LOVE getting my hair done. I always feel like a brand new woman. I'm also excited because I'm going to do something just a teeny tiny bit different.
~ Today is my momma's birthday! She's the best woman in the whole wide world, and so today I celebrate her :)
~ My new camera arrived and I'm quite smitten with it. Your recommendations in this post really helped. I'll share what I got next week, and you'll be seeing improved photos on the blog next week as well.
~ I'm doing something really exciting Sunday and it involves meeting a fellow blogger. I couldn't be more excited.
~ Mr. Simon Birch went to the vet last weekend. He has lost over 4lbs and is back to his pre-surgery weight!! I'm ecstatic that my little guy is back in tip-top shape.
~ My bff Farrah is joining me at my hair appointment tonight {isn't she quite the pal?} and we're having dinner at one of our favorite spots beforehand. Here's to catching up with one of my favorite girls.

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Happy Thursday lovelies! What is it about short weeks that makes them feel longer? Anyhow, to get me through the rest of the week, I'm doing another round of Awkward & Awesome Thursday. Here goes!

Awkward:
~ The show Awkward on MTV. I am obsessed with it, and I'm pretty sure it's not geared for my *ahem* mature age group, but I don't care. I have a season pass on my Tivo for it people. It reminds me of My So Called Life with a little Gilmore Girls sprinkled in, and it's just awesome and makes me forget I'm watching MTV.
~ My landlord doing multiple apartment walk-throughs. He keeps telling us that it's to get a "current property value assessment", which I hope is the truth, but I just have a bad, gut feeling that he's going to sell and tell us we have to move.
~ It's been in the upper 60's here all week and I can't help but laugh at the fashion I'm seeing. Women are sporting parkas with hoods, tights, boots, scarves, and even Uggs! It makes me laugh, because I know these are the same people wearing tank tops and shorts when it hits 50 degrees in March.
~ Getting so into the Def Leppard track playing on my iPod this morning, that I literally started singing aloud on my walk into work. At first I didn't quite realize why people walking by were starting. Oops.

Awesome:
~ My face has FINALLY stopped breaking out like a teenage girl. I'm so afraid to jinx it, I don't talk about it. In fact, I'm tempted to delete this sentence.
~ This weather. It's the first hint of fall, and I love it. There's a fall crisp in the air. I can wear richer colors, jeans and light sweaters. Oh and pumpkin spice lattes are back at Starbucks.
~ I have a date tonight. That's right this handsome fella asked me to accompany him to see his friend's band play. I wonder what Mr. Fiance will think? Oh I'm just kidding - Mr. Fiance asked me on the date :) I love date nights.
~ Anthropologie just announced that all new Fall sweaters are 25% off! I can't remember the last time Anthropologie did a promo like this. Oh wait, I'm pretty sure never. You can shop them here.

Pattern Play

I want to thank everyone for the lovely comments and positive feedback on the debut of red jeans yesterday! Several of you asked for more styling tips, so I will put together a post with more styling options and show you how else I'll be rocking the red jeans this fall. Perhaps the red jeans would be a great piece to bring back my 1 Item Worn 3 Ways feature?

Something else I love, in addition to trying out fun new trends like red jeans, is pattern mixing. If you read this blog that is not exactly shocking news. I tend to play with pattern quite a bit. As summer winds down, I wanted to try to squeeze in all of my summer brights while I can. Today's outfit combines floral and polka dot without the two competing with one another. I think the neutral bottom is a nice compliment to the bright floral top.

Seeing Red

Well it's back to the daily grind today girls. I don't know about you, but I had a fantastic weekend. Holiday weekends are always my favorite, for obvious reasons, but this one was particularly special. Highlights included the radio show with Roxy, meeting up with reader Usha {who was a serious doll in person}, and a fun photo shoot I did yesterday afternoon {which you'll be hearing and seeing more of really soon}.

In addition to all of those fun things, I'm doing something fun today. I'm stepping a bit outside of my comfort zone and trying a new trend. We all know that colored denim is big for Fall, but I didn't know if it was a trend I'd jump on. When I saw the AG Stevie's in red at Anthropologie, I was instantly smitten. I loved that they're red, but not in your face, bright red. They're a faded red, and that folks, is something I can get on board with. I tried to find a cheaper alternative, but nothing compared. They all either looked or felt cheap, or were too red. I caved and got the Stevies and I couldn't be happier. The best part is finding out how much they go with in my closet.

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Boy these Thursdays sure do come quick around here, don't they? Since it is Thursday, I thought I'd play along with Awkward and Awesome Thursday again this week. Here goes....

Awkward:
~ The lady from the nursing home? You guessed it. She is STILL calling my work phone. For the love of god, stop it woman. I've called the nursing home with the exact times she's calling. They keep telling me they'll run the cameras and phone logs, yet she keeps calling. While it started as amusing, it's down right annoying.
~ Oh did I mention that I'm STILL taking those damn antibiotics?? Yes, that's right, after screwing up and taking only half the recommended dose, I'm still taking them. I was supposed to double up, but honestly, that makes me want to yak, so I'm still at one pill at a time. I may finish sometime in 2011. I'll let you know.
~ I'm wearing jeans today. I figured it was September 1, so perhaps I'd get into Fall mode. I should have checked the weather. It is 93 degrees with a heat index of 100 today. It's not really a great feeling when your jeans are stuck to your legs.
~ Opening the blinds and shutters to get natural light for my outfit photos, and realizing that the neighbors across the street and the patrons at the bar across the street can see me. Not a big deal right? Um yeah, they could see in between outfit changes as well. Oh well, hope they got a nice show.
~ Falling behind on important appointments I need to make like doctor appointments for myself and my dog. Not only have I neglected myself, but now my dog too . Ok it's not that bad, but I need to get with it.

Awesome:
~ My upcoming trip to St. Maarten. It's not until October, but that gives me something amazing to look forward to.
~ Going to see the film One Day tonight with two of my favorite girls. I just finished the book and absolutely loved it. I have high hopes for the movie and Anne Hathaway playing Emma.
~ This weekend. I am looking forward to having my parents over for a Labor Day bbq, participating in a photo shoot with a real photographer (more to come on this!), and meeting up with the lovely Usha, who's visiting my town.
~ I'm guest posting over on What the Frock today. I'm filling in for the lovely Dana, who I met at the BHLDN launch, and I have a bunch of awesome Anthro Looks for Less. Check them out here.

Isn't She Lucky

Would you like to know how I'm doing today readers? Well I am absolutely fantastic, thank you for asking. Would you like to know why I'm fantastic? C'mon, you know you do. I'm fantastic because yesterday I got an email at work that said this:

"Ladies, as a thank you for all your hard work, our CEO has invited you for a weekend in St. Maarten". That's right, as in the Carribean. Oh my god. Oh my god. I'm hyperventilating. I'm so excited I could burst! Life has been a bit stressful lately (not complaining, just stating the facts), and I could honestly use this break. And island vacation at a spa resort? Yes please and thank you. Something to look forward to this fall!

Since I'm so flippin cheery today, I thought I'd go all out and wear some cheery brights. Sort of fits the whole "I'm traveling to an island in the sun" theme, don't you think?

Good afternoon lovelies! Have you recovered from Anthropologie's wonderful sale markdowns this morning? If so, let's talk about some new arrivals shall we? As promised in my last review set, I have even more new Fall arrivals that I recently tried on, so let's get to some more reviews!

Bolshoi Cardigan. $138 by Knitted & Knotted. Style# 21145347. Tried Size XS, Neutral Motif.
I had been stalking this adorable cardigan since the very day it appeared online. It took, what felt like forever to me, to appear in stores. I couldn't wait to try it on. I love the neutral color, and tried the size xs, which was a perfect fit. This one is true to size. It is wool and nylon, but it is super soft and not itchy at all. The sleeves stop just above the elbow and it hit right at my hip, making for a perfect length. What I especially love about this cardigan is that it looks equally adorable left open or buttoned closed. Oh and the chiffon ribbon detailing on the front of the cardigan is absolutely stunning in person. I love how the ruffled hem carries all the around the sweater. This one is at the top of my wish list. Love it!

Camellia Blouse. $168 by Gryphon. Style# 22792592. Tried on size XS & S.
This is the other new arrival that I'd been stalking since it hit the web. I was so excited to finally get to try it on at last weeks fall fashion show, especially after it was featured in the show! I grabbed my usual size xs to try on, but this blouse ran a little small for me. It was a bit snug on my 32c bust, and it hit my lower hip and is a little tighter at the bottom. I asked for a small, which ended up being a better fit for me. I preferred the longer length of the small too. You may need to size up in this one. This blouse is simply stunning. $168 may seem steep, but it's worth it. This blouse looks and feels expensive and you can see the quality. The lace insets running down the front and the lace trimmed hem and sleeves are to die for. The blouse buttons down the entire back, a detail I loved. The buttons are hidden when closed. This blouse is sheer, where the lace insets are, so you'll need a cami underneath, like I'm wearing in the photos. To me, this is classic Anthropologie. This is a timeless piece and I'm in love with it. Highly recommend.

Granite Gilia Pullover. $78 by Deletta. Style# 21059688. Tried on Size XS.
You know I'm a sucker for lace, so obviously I had to try this lace tunic on. The xs fit me perfectly, and I loved the shade of gray - a nice change for a lace piece. I also loved that it's a tunic vs. a tee, and the longer length worked really well on me. I think it's a great fall piece with skinnies. Being lace, this piece is see through, so you will have to wear a cami. I didn't like the way white looked under it, so perhaps gray would have looked better. The one thing I didn't really care for was the thick collar on the shirt - it almost looked like it belonged on a sweatshirt. I would have much preferred a lace neckline to match the rest of the top. All in all, this is a cute lace tee and it runs true to size. I'll further consider at sale time.

Agnita Dress. $388 by Ailanto. Style# 22870612. Tried on Size 2.
This dress was also featured in last Thursday's fall fashion show, and I thought it looked so much like classic Anthropologie that I had to give it a try. I grabbed a size 2 and the fit was odd. As you can see in the photos, the top half was too big. I felt like the shoulders overwhelmed me and I looked like a linebacker. The waistband was super tight, and I had trouble getting it zipped once I hit my hips. The waistband folds over, and I honestly just couldn't get it to lay right. This dress has a lot going on, and once I got it on, I felt like it was just too much. The cable sleeves and top with the loud pattern...it was a bit too much for me. Between that and the ill fit, I felt like a sister wife in this one. It's a big no, no, no from me. It looked so cute on the girl who wore it in the show, and on the model online, but not on me. I just feel like I'm wearing grandma's drapes. This one needs to be tried on, as the sizing was odd. I felt like I would have needed a size 0 on top, 4 in the middle, and 2 on the bottom.

Plush Pretender Vest. $148 by Sanctuary. Style# 22527048. Tried on Size XS.
I would never wear real fur, however, faux fur sure can be fun. I decided to give this piece a whirl in the fitting room. First of all, it is so soft I wanted to curl up and take a nap in it. It's also lined. It has hook and eye closures down the front, so you can wear it open or close it up. I loved the deep chocolate brown color, and I think it'd be fabulous over a number of different pieces like blouses and dresses. Sadly, even the xs was too big on me, and the fit was just too boxy. I have narrow shoulders and even the store's personal shopper told me it overwhelmed my frame. I do recommend this one, and if possible size down a size. I'll be looking for a fun alternative somewhere else!

Houndstooth Collage Pencil Skirt. $98 by Maeve. Style# 22806582. Tried on Size 2.
I cannot figure out for the life of me why Anthro is calling this skirt a pencil skirt. It's not. It's a-line. I grabbed a size 2 to try on it and it fit me perfectly, so it is true to size. The length hit me about an inch above the knee, making it totally office appropriate. It has a side zip and pockets in the front. I love the muted color palette of yellow, brown, and dusty blue, and the houndstooth pattern they did here is new and fun. I feel like these colors would work with a lot. This skirt would be darling with a pair of boots, booties, or tights and heels. The cotton fabric is the perfect weight - not too light and not too heavy. It's a substantial fabric, and almost feels like a brushed corduroy (though it's not). I love this skirt and it's earned a top seat on my wish list.

Skyscraper Dress. $298 by Leifsdottir. Style# 22767370. Tried on Size 2.
I tried this dress on for my mother-in-law to be. It's her dream to own an Anthropologie dress that's appropriate for her age, and one of her requirements is that it hit below the knee. She was attracted to this one, so I promised to review it for her. The store didn't have a size 0 for me to try, so I tried the size 2 on. It was almost the perfect fit, so I'd say this one runs a bit small. I had a little room in my bust, but nothing ridiculous. It's a faux-style wrap dress, and as you can see in the photos, the gray fabric in the back just sort of hangs, though not in an unflattering way. I loved the pleating detail. The v-neck makes for a flattering neckline. The dress zips on the side, and I had no issues there. It hit well below my knee at 5'7". I don't think the dress flattered me all that well, but I can definitely see it on my mother-in-law to be. It's sophisticated looking. The major disappointment here is that it's polyester. For being Leifsdottir and $300, I expected more.

Diaphanous Pleated Skirt. $118 by Fei. Tried on Size XS.
I can see this skirt on page 57 of the new September catalog, and I think this is the name of it. I spotted it in the store yesterday, and um duh - it has pleats, so naturally I loved it. I suspect this lovely will be online this week. It's by Fei. I forgot to check out the material, sadly, but it felt like any other pleated skirt. It's on the sheer side. I couldn't see my unmentionables under it, but I could see my chambray shirt underneath. It hit right below my knee cap, and I found the length very flattering. It has an elastic waistband, which isn't the best looking thing, so I'd definitely belt it. It is lined. I really really like this skirt, but seriously, I need another pleated skirt like a I need a hole in my head. I'm not sure how well the white color would carry into the colder months either. Given the elastic waistband, it's true to size, and you may even be able to size down. It's, of course, still got a spot on my wish list. I am a pleataholic, after all.

Elevenses High-Waist Trousers. $118 by Elevenses. Style# 21313945. Tried on Size 2.
I LOVE high-waisted pants. Did you know that about me? Well, it's true. I'm super excited that they are making a comeback this fall, and I will definitely be investing in some. I don't always love wide legged pants/jeans, but sometimes they work well (hello Citizens of Humanity Huttons). I grabbed these trousers, which are indeed a dark denim to give a try. The size 2 fit me great. The high-waist was super flattering and made my waist look tiny. I love love the sailor style of the jeans, with the gold buttons and flap pockets. A big downside for me was that the back pockets are placed really high, and therefore, made me butt look super flat. Not a look I like. These jeans are a nice, lightweight denim, which I love. The length on the regulars was perfect on me, and I typically need long length jeans. These are cotton with a hint of spandex, so they will give. Buy them tight, but I found them true to size and I recommend them. They don't fit me as well as my Citizens, so I'm passing.

What do you think of this review set? I am happy to see some pieces such as the Camellia Blouse and Bolshoi Cardigan, because it gives me big hope for Fall. A Lace Affair

It may come as no shock to any of you that I have a long-standing love affair with lace. I'll take it pretty much any variation too. White, cream, beige, black, bright colors? Sure. Tops, skirts, cardigans, shoes? Sign me up. So when I find a great lace piece, I get fixated on it. I can't let it get away. I mean, my closet only has 9,237 pieces of lace. How could I not make it even with a cool 9,238? So naturally, when I saw this top, I had to have it. It's lace, but it's different. I had grand plans for this cropped little number. Imagine a lace top I could layer OVER things, rather than under. But it wasn't easy my friends. Oh no. I had to go to several Forever 21 stores, and still didn't have luck. Heck, even the store that had it on the mannequin in the window told me it had been sold out for weeks. Really? Then why is it on the mannequin? Anyhow, I resigned and ordered it online.

Anthropologie Fall Fashion Show - Southport Avenue Store

Yesterday evening, I had the pleasure of attending a Fall Fashion Show at the Southport Avenue store in Chicago. The event was so well organized, and the staff did an amazing job from start to finish. Upon entering, we were greeted by two very friendly sales associates who checked us in. There were rows of seats set up to view the fashion show. Each seat had an adorable take-away gift with a vintage sscarf to style however you like.

The ladies put out quite the spread of spiced rum cocktails, fun appetizers, and sweet treats. I have to admit, I was a big fan of the cocktails in mason jars with striped straws.

The fashion show started at 7:30pm promptly, and the store's focus was "bottom-up", with details focusing on the bottom. What I especially loved is that the store chose real women to model their clothes. Each girl was either a customer or friend of an employee, so we got to see the clothes modeled on different shapes and sizes.

Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews

It's that time again lovelies! Time for some anthropologie reviews. I've tried on the latest and greatest from the early Fall lineup. Enjoy!

Dalian Dress. $178 by Floreat. Style# 22802714. Tried on Size 2.
I think this dress is so gorgeous in person. The sparkly silver top and the ethereal nude, chiffon bottom. So lovely. Sadly, it was not lovely on me. I'm usually a size 0 in Anthro's dresses, but sized up to a 2 when the SA told me it was running small. She also warned me that if you have any type of curves, this may not be the dress for you. I see what she means. While I don't consider myself curvy, I'm definitely not straight up and down. The size 2 was too loose in my bust area, but too tight in the hip area, making for an ill, unflattering fit. I also though the length, for this type of dress was awkward, falling below my knee. The bottom half of the dress is sheer. Why, Anthro, why? You could see my underthings right through. The detailing on the top half of the dress is gorgeous though, but I feel like the length doesn't work well with it. It has a side zip. This isn't for me, and this is one I'd definitely say you need to try first before buying - sizing is definitely off here. Also note, there are no attachable straps with this dress.

Noon and Night Dress. $158 by Ganni. Style# 22608699. Tried on Size XS, Wine.
I already own the sister version of this dress {the Embossed Basket Weave Dress in navy} and I'm insane for it. Once I saw this dress, I knew I'd want it since it's the exact same fit, shape, and material. I couldn't wait to try the wine color on, because it's gorgeous. Just as expected, I wasn't disappointed. I own the sister version in size xs, and the Noon and Night fit exactly the same, making the xs a perfect fit. I love the fit and flare shape of the dress, making the skirt part so flirty and fun. The wine color is seriously gorgeous in person - a deep red shade perfect for Fall. I can see this dress being versatile all year round. While it's a basketweave, cotton material with a little stretch, it's not super heavy or hot. I wore the Embossed Basket Weave to two bachelorette parties in hot, hot June. The dress is totally comfy and breathable. It has a back zip, which I'm a big fan of. I love the length {a couple inches above the knee}, because it's great for both work and play. I also love that this version is sleeveless, because you can layer both over and under it. This will be a must-have for me! Wish listed for now.

Frilled Echelons Peacoat. $148 by Elevenses. Style# 21268321. Tried on Size 0, Moss.
You know how your mother taught you that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all? That's, sadly, how I feel about this coat. In person, I didn't care for either of the colors. The Turquoise is a weird shade of blue, and I all I could think of were the Muppets. the Moss is an odd, dull mixture of olive green and brown. I found this peacoat to be so unflattering on me. I can't understand why anyhow would make a peacoat with ruffles and have it stop above your waistband. Who will that flatter? It just made my whole mid-section look larger and wider than it is. This could have been cute if it were longer. It's boiled wool, which I don't typically have an issue with, but between the construction and fit of this coat, it looked cheap to me. I'm wearing the size 0, which fit just fine so I'd say it's a bit on the larger side. I also felt that the cowl neck didn't lay all that nicely and ended up looking a bit awkward. One other thing to note, the back is longer than the front. This is a pass for me.

Felted Colorbar Cardigan. $118 by Charlie & Robin. Style# 22593362. Tried on XS, Neutral Motif.
I am a color blocking addict, so naturally I gravitated towards this little number. My store only had the neutral motif, so I gave the xs a whirl. It fit perfectly, so it's true to size. I still don't know how I feel about the tan/pink combo. I'm not sure I love it, but I do like the preppy vibe the sweater has going on. The cardigan is wool and to me it was itchy. I got itchy just from the few minutes I had it on. It isn't a thick, heavy wool though. This would be a good Fall cardigan. The length was good, hitting right around my hips. This is cute, but ultimately probably a pass for me because of the itch factor.

AG Stevie Ankle. $158. Style# A20471538. Tried on Size 27, Bright Red.
I've been obsessing over these darn jeans for what feels like forever now. I desperately want the red, but NO Anthropologie on the face of the earth has my size, 26 ever. They keep selling out and I keep missing them. I tried on the 27 just so I could do a review. I'm even more in love now. Lucky for me, I'm told my local stores are restocking this week. Like every other pair of AG jeans I own, the size 26 is the perfect fit. These jeans are so soft and have stretch, so they give. Even if they feel and look snug in the fitting room, I highly recommend buying them tight - they will stretch out. The red color is perfection. I've been longing for red jeans, but all the other pairs I've seen are too bright, too red, too dark. These aren't so in your face. They're a faded red, almost a salmon pink color. They're ankle length, so they're a bit cropped on me at 5'7". Petite girls, you could totally rock these without having to hem them! I can't rave about these enough. They're #1 on my wish list right now, and I'm just waiting for a restock. Highly recommend!

Interspersed Ponte Dress. $168. Tried on size XS, Plum.
I saw this dress the other evening at Anthropologie, and instantly fell in love. It's not online yet, but I did notice it in the catalog shot for the Spun Chiffon Tee this morning on the website. Here's what I remember: it's $168 and I'm pretty certain it's by Deletta. It's wool and it's a lovely, deep shade of plum. It has the loveliest fit and flare shape, and it has lace sleeves and a lace back at the top of the dress. I was swooning over this lovely in the fitting room. I tried on the size xs and it fit me like a dream, so this one is true to size ladies. It hit right above my knee and reminded me of the Anthro dresses I know and love. The lace detailing is what really won me over. The cap sleeves are entirely lace and the back, top panel of the dress is as well. The one pitfall of this dress? The wool material, while light and swingy, did feel a bit itchy. I'm thinking that maybe a slip and tights in the colder months would help solve that for the most part though. One final note - it pulls over the head. No zipper or buttons. This should appear online soon. Wish listed for me and recommended!

Hip Cinched Blouse. $98 by Maeve. Style# 21375035. Tried on Size 0, Gold.
Being the polka-loving gal I am, I was intrigued by this blouse. I wasn't that thrilled with the two color choices (the other being a deep green), but I gave the gold a whirl. It's a mustard yellow actually. The fit on this silk blouse was a bit off. The top half of the blouse is very billowy and on the larger side. The cowl neck seemed to have excess material, but the bottom half was very tight and form fitting. There's also the cinch tie at the bottom, which I felt looked a little odd - I kind of wanted to cut it off! The arm holes are also very wide and loose. The top was true to size on me. The 0 fit, even though it was fitted at the bottom, but you have curves on your bottom half, you may need to size up one. Perhaps this would look sleeker tucked into a skirt. I'm not sure, but this one is a pass for me.

Zenobia Tee. $68 by Odonate Epiprocta. Style# 21214093. Tried on Size XS, Wine.
I wanted to love this tee so much. I just adore the lace detailed sleeves - what a cute touch. However, the more I thought about it, the more I thought "how would I wear this in the fall"? You wouldn't want to layer over it because you'd lose all the detailing, and it's not like you can really layer under it. The wine shade is much like the Noon and Night dress and gorgeous in person. I'd like to have seen the Green, but my store didn't have it. My major issue with this top was the fit - this sucker clung to my body! On top of the clingy factor, I found it to be super sheer. You can see my bra clear through the shirt. Ugh. That's a double no-no. It showed every imperfection, and I don't know about you, but that's not the look I'm going for.. What a shame, but this top just seems to difficult to wear past summer, and I'm sick of trying on tees that are sheer! You may want to consider sizing up in this one.

Ascot Swing Coat. $168 by Tabitha. Style# 22761449. Tried on Size XS.
Ahhh, love has a name and it is the Ascot Swing Coat. I absolutely adore a good swing coat and this one doesn't disappoint. I also {and a lot of people don't understand this) LOVE 3/4 sleeve coats. Yes, even living in Chicago. I find them to be the perfect transitional piece, and I love layering elbow-length gloves or long sleeve shirts under. Please note though - this is a fall jacket, and isn't meant to be a heavy winter coat. The xs was a good fit one me, although roomy enough to layer. It runs on the larger side, but I was ok with the fit, as I certainly didn't find it overwhelming or unflattering. I simply love the funnel, bow-tied swag collar. Just gorgeous and gives it a vintage vibe. The coat itself is a wool/acrylic/polyester blend with a basketweave texture. It is full lined, with what felt silky to me, but is apparently cotton. The quality of this coat is definitely there for the price. The only thing I felt a little unsure of was the color. It's a mustard yellow with a green undertone. I wasn't sure if it flattered my skin and hair, but my friend Tracy said she liked it on me. It's wish listed for now because a) I want to see if other colors are released and b) I can't think about coats in August! Highly recommend!

Jessica, from What I Wore, was there signing her recently released book, and the lovely folks with Shop It To Me put on a great little soiree. There was mingling, cocktails, eats, and shopping. It was fun to catch up with other bloggers as well.

It was so fun to finally get to meet Elena from caffeinerd. She's submitted reader outfits dozens of times, and I follow her blog as well. We chatted about wedding planning and had a lot of laughs. She's even more adorable and sweet in person!

Taylor, Audrey, and II also got to hang with Taylor {Curly in the City} and Audrey {A Lovely Escape} and we had a great time chatting it up. Such friendly and gorgeous ladies!

I love the classic look of this outfit with a twist. I thought I'd give the outfit a little kick in the pants by adding a leopard belt and red shoes. I can't rave enough about the pieces in this outfit. The Limited skirt is a recent acquisition and I love it. So much so that I also bought it in black. The lace top from Lace Affair? Worth every penny - such great quality. I have to ask though, are you surprised to see me in leopard? You know, I did once say I'd NEVER wear it ;)

Review: Miss Albright Mary Janes

Thanks to Roxy at Effortless Anthropologie for originally bringing the lovely Miss Albright Mary Janes to all of our attention here. I've been obsessing over them since she first tweeted about them. Over the weekend, it became known that the shoes were available in 5 stores in the US. It looks like yesterday more stores stocked them. I had already placed an order for my pair from the Berkeley, CA store on Saturday, but as of yesterday, the 111 E. Chicago Ave store has them in stock. You can call 312.255.1848 if you want to order a pair. They've been warned that readers would be calling today!

So here's my full review, complete with photos of the much-coveted shoes.

I'm super happy to report that these shoes run true to size. I was nervous ordering over the phone because Miss Albright sizing has been all over the map for me in the past. I own the Slinking Frills Heels in a 7, the Bouquet of Roses in a 7, but the Budding T-Straps in a 7.5. I tried the 7.5 (my true shoe size) on in these and they fit perfect. I have zero compliants about these shoes - ZERO. They are just as lovely in person as I could have hoped from seeing photos.

The strap over the foot is thin, but I didn't mind it at all. These shoes are 3.5" high with a 1" platform and they are soooooooo comfortable. I walked all over the store in them and they're great. They are a honey brown color with a dark red, velvet bow on the top of the toe. The platform and heel are a reptile type material and I loved the contrasting material.

I've been asked if these are similar to the Bouquet of Roses Heels. Yes and no. Are they different enough to own both? Yes, absolutely. The Bouquet of Roses are a much lower heel with no platform. These are also lighter in color and more sleek looking. The Bouquet of Roses are "cute", while I consider these more "chic".

Scatterbrain

I am happy to report that today is the first day in months that I came into work and didn't have a single voicemail from the crazy old lady cranking me from the nursing home. I don't want to jinx it, but I have high hopes. Perhaps she's moved on. What I'm not happy to report is that I'm a bit of an airhead. As you all know, I came down with a sinus and ear infection early last week. The doctor prescribed antibiotics for 10 days. Well, today is 1 week, and I noticed my pill bottle still looked like it had an awful lot of pills in it. I thought "something must be wrong here". Perhaps they overfilled the prescription? Oh no. No, no, no. You see, I mistakenly read the bottle wrong. I have been taking 1 pill every 12 hours. However, the bottle said to take 2 pills every 12 hours. Apparently my brain couldn't compute that. So I'll be on antibiotics for the rest of my life at this rate.
Please tell me I'm not alone in doing something so scatterbrained?!

Isn't this Ruche dress the prettiest thing? Between the coral hue, the polka dots, and the pretty pleats, it has me swooning. I have a secret though. It hit my lower calf, and I'm not used to that look, so I rigged it up at the waist and slapped a belt over it. Shhh...don't tell.
