En 1981, Tom Snyder –periodista de la NBC–, entrevistó a la única banda que importa y una de las preguntas que les hizo fue ¿Por qué preferían ser presentados como un “grupo proveedor de noticias” en lugar de un “grupo de música Rock& Roll”? Joe Strummer, elocuentemente respondió: “Muchísimas canciones de amor han sido escritas, el tema está cubierto… Las noticias son nuevas, ¿verdad? Entonces no son aburridas, quiero decir… Es lo que está sucediendo en este momento”. Pero, ¿Qué es lo que está sucediendo? Vivimos en el año 2016, tenemos fuentes de información en todas partes, algunas son importantes y otras irrelevantes. Algunas verdaderas, otras falsas. Otras sobrevivirán el paso del tiempo y otras serán olvidadas instantáneamente, pero ¿realmente sabemos qué es lo que está pasando?

Mi nombre es Armando Razo, toco la guitarra y hago las voces en una banda de punk rock llamada Anti-Venöm de la Ciudad de México. No creo que Anti-Venöm sea un grupo proveedor de noticias o si quiera que nos estemos comparando con The Clash, eso sería simplemente idiota. Pero sí considero que estamos informados de lo que está pasando en este momento y nuestro interés como banda es seguir hablando al respecto; escribiendo, componiendo, cantando o creando imágenes que inspiren a la gente a pensar y no solamente en pensar por que sí, sino a pensar por sí mismos.

Como persona y como la voz de una banda en la Ciudad de México, les puedo decir que la vida no es sencilla. No es fácil para nadie, pero les puedo asegurar que algunos la tenemos peor que otros. Para los estándares económicos nacionales, mis compañeros en la banda y yo, seríamos considerados como ciudadanos de clase media baja; mientras que, para los estándares internacionales seríamos considerados como ciudadanos pobres o en banca rota. Esto me resulta particularmente muy risible, pues creo que vivimos en una situación privilegiada. Nuestros padres trabajaron lo más que pudieron para brindarnos una buena educación y buenos valores. Crecimos y actualmente seguimos viviendo en una de las delegaciones más peligrosas y jodidas de la ciudad –Iztapalapa–, la cual es conocida por ser una zona llena de crimen, pobreza, ignorancia, drogadicción, violencia y corrupción. Sin embargo, agradezco mucho a mis padres el haberme brindado todas las herramientas para salir adelante, pero no creo que importe mucho a fin de cuentas. Hay muchísimas más personas que la tienen peor que nosotros, no solo en México, sino en el resto del mundo. Eso es lo que sucede en este momento y lamentablemente la gente no lo ve.

Independientemente de las herramientas a nuestra disposición, estamos cegados por nuestra propia ignorancia y eso es justamente lo que necesita cambiar y lo que debe preocupar a la gente. Todos somos individuos y todos somos iguales: No hay ninguna necesidad de afiliarse a una postura política, tener una afiliación de pensamiento, representar partidos o un punto de vista en específico, solamente debemos de preocuparnos por las cosas que deberían ser correctas y que del mismo modo, deberían ser justas para todos. Eso es lo único que tratamos de compartir con nuestra música.

La mayoría de las veces, pareciera ser que todos estamos abstractos en nuestros problemas personales y nuestras condiciones de vida. Resulta difícil pensar que alguien puede abandonar sus preocupaciones, todo lo que le afecta y pensar más allá de su persona. Pero la música puede ayudarnos a percibir esas situaciones de otra manera y hacerlas un poco más amenas. Como banda, Anti-Venöm trata de servir como un medio para que la gente conozca otro tipo de ideas y descubra que sus problemas personales y sus condiciones de vida no están limitadas a lo que conocen o viven a diario. Tratamos de hacer entender a las personas que no estamos solos con los problemas o que solamente nosotros vivimos en esa situación. Esta es una de las formas en las que otras bandas y artistas han formado nuestra perspectiva política y social, varios grupos sumamente talentosos como The Clash, Propagandhi, Dead Kennedys, The English Beat, Choking Victim, Refused, Lagwagon, Sin Dios, y muchos más, nos han ayudado a conocer algo más allá de las problemáticas en las que nos desenvolvemos. Sin embargo, y muy a mi pesar, la música también es una especie de espada de doble filo con bandas que promueven el odio y la intolerancia, mismas que no vale la pena si quiera mencionarlas.

Efectivamente, la música puede ayudar a definir nuestras perspectivas políticas y sociales, pero honestamente creo que educarnos no solo en base a nuestros propios intereses puede ayudar a definir un poco más que es lo que queremos, lo que sabemos y la forma en la que vemos las cosas. La filosofía, las ciencias sociales, la historia, la economía y otro tipo de literatura puede ayudarnos a comprender y tener otra perspectiva del mundo que nos rodea. Es necesario saber y conocer lo que está pasando en el mundo. No podemos formar una opinión de algo sin conocerlo realmente.

Resulta evidente pensar que las personas debemos hacer lo que es correcto por nosotros, pero también es necesario pensar lo que es correcto para los demás. Personalmente, trato de escribir letras que hablen de lo que pasa con la gente desde una perspectiva diferente: Como nos sentimos, como nos afectan las cosas, la forma en la que vemos las cosas que pasan en nuestro entorno; pero lamentablemente, muchas veces lo que tenemos enfrente es una realidad tan triste y sádica que mis letras terminan siendo muy depresivas.

Estoy harto de bandas que solo describen lo que vemos todos los días sin creatividad alguna: “Corrupción”, “El capitalismo apesta”, “Somos nada”, “No hay futuro”, “Mi vida es una mierda y la tuya también”. Eso es sumamente aburrido y tan poco creativo como una canción de amor. La “rebeldía” se ha vuelto frágil y repetitiva. Las bandas y los artistas actuales necesitamos tener formas nuevas de compartir un buen mensaje a la gente que nos escucha. Estoy harto de esa idea tan poco creativa y tan directa que tienen las bandas al decir que “las corporaciones, la religión y el Estado son malas” y “nuestra existencia miserable es una mierda”, “Tenemos que levantarnos y pelear”, blah, blah, blah… Muchísimas canciones han sido escritas acerca de eso, el tema ya ha sido cubierto en su totalidad, es una idea aburrida y sin inteligencia de por medio –y lo digo porque yo solía escribir canciones de esa manera-.

Necesitamos sobresalir y crear algo diferente para tener la atención de la gente, hacer que nos escuchen de algún modo y mantenernos relevantes como bandas, compartir algo más de lo que ya tenemos, por ejemplo: Anti-Venöm también trata de crear imágenes que reflejan nuestra perspectiva, que es una postura de tolerancia y de hacer las cosas de una manera pacífica o siempre tratamos de colaborar con canciones o eventos en beneficio de alguien más: En Enero tuvimos un show para recolectar juguetes y ropa para niños sin hogar, el año pasado participamos en Punk Aid, una compilación anual que busca recolectar dinero para ayudar a diversas causas, el año pasado se trató de ayudar a una organización de niños con autismo. Algunos años atrás enviamos cintas a los chicos punk de indonesia que fueron arrestados por ser ellos mismos, ayudamos con una canción en beneficio del anarquista Kostas Sakkas y la lista sigue, pero como individuos, tratamos de ayudar como podemos, ya sea que se trate de salir y protestar por algo en lo que creemos, como es el caso de los 43 estudiantes de Ayotzinapa y otro tipo de protestas públicas. La realidad es que es necesario estar conscientes de este tipo de problemáticas, ya que ese tipo de cosas no debería de pasar en ningún lugar del mundo, sin embargo suceden.

En el momento en el que todos nosotros comencemos a pensar por nosotros mismos, estaremos un paso adelante en la dirección correcta para hacer de este mundo un lugar mejor para todos nosotros. Hay muchísimas bandas que tratan de hacer algo diferente estos días, pueden checar a From The Cradle To The Rave, Atrocity Solution, Atterkop, DSM-Global Collective, solo por mencionar a algunas.

Es muy curioso escribir de esto, no quiero hacerme sonar como un mártir, pero creo que mi banda y yo realmente estamos en contra de todas las formas de instituciones deshumanizadas, incluso del punk rock. Es una institución llena de elitismo, modas, pretensiones ridículas e hipocresía… todo eso es una mala concepción de la idea real detrás de eso. El punk no da cabida a una ideología de ningún tipo o a una perspectiva social específica y eso es lo que la gente tampoco conoce.

En fin, lo único que pretendo con esté ensayo es hacer pensar a las personas. Descubrir por nosotros mismos que lo único que tenemos que hacer es lo que es correcto para nosotros y para los demás. Si no nos interesa saber qué es lo que está sucediendo en este momento, terminaremos encerrados en nuestra propia persona y arrebatados de nuestras propias ideas. Sé que no hay mucha esperanza, pero tratemos de ser diferentes y tratemos de pensar por nosotros mismos.

Mischief Brew – Smash the Windows Review

This is my personal favorite record by Mischief Brew and to be quite honest I never really thought about doing a review about this record but this was suggested by my friend Viktor Linusson and I truly believe this was a great choice for a record review. The word Mischief itself don’t comes too often in people’s regular vocabulary, it sounds like a word that someone in a cartoon or a grandparent would say haha, seriously, think about it and you’ll know it’s true! That being said, the band itself share one special characteristic to that point and that’s where the magic starts to happen and makes them unique.

Mischief Brew is a sick anarcho folk-ish band, really DIY punky smart band and this record proves it. The heart behind each track and the lyrics displayed by the band are unique, there’s no fillers or something that shouldn’t be there. This is raw punk rock written with a wooden guitar delivered on its own terms and unique ways. I really hate bands like Andrew Jackson Jihad or pseudo punk artist like Frank Turner, the feeling doesn’t add up to the music, and the concept of the band or the artist –at least to me- is just bullshit, Mischief Brew is real.

The record opens with “The Reinventing of The Printing Press” and there couldn’t be a better opener for Smash the Windows and the critic lyrics of the entire record to our so-called “modern civilization”. Followed up by the upbeat and sincere “Citizens Drive” which to me feels like a numb scream for help, the third track and one of my favorites on this album is “Lightning Knock The Power Out” I just love these kind of melodies, somehow feels like a resignation tune.

Another great tune is “Ten Thousand Fleas” Which I usually refer as the “Fly Song” I’m really unsure why but it reminds me of a cartoonish fly hitting itself to a closed window. This song features Scotty Sturgeon from CV, LöC and SFH, and the lyrics go awesome with the music, I love that track but not as much as the instrumental song that comes after that one, “Swing Against the Nazis”.

There’s some amazing tracks like “Roll Me Through The Gates of Hell” or “Aint it The Life?” that work like a charm for sing along lyrics and there’s other’s like “Nomads Revolt”, “I Liquor Never Brewd” and the closing track “Departure Arrival” that kinda bring you down but remain in hope for a change in this miserable world. This record feels just right.

As much as I love Mischief Brew, I must admit that this record is not for everyone, neither as the band. You have to understand the basis of this style of music, which don’t really come from punk or folk music, I gave you a hint at the first paragraph of this review, here’s a second one: Protest.

If you enjoy this record you must listen to “Songs From Under the Sink” from 2006, really different from this one and also a must if you’re into this type of music, and by that I mean Real folk punk, unlike Greg Graffin solo record. Mischief Brew is dropping a new 7’’ split with Mr. Franz Nicolay, If I were you, I’ll get it right away.

Interview with GOB’s Steven Fairweather!

As many of you might know, GOB is one of my favorite bands in the world. Been listening to their music since I was in high school, relating more and more to their lyrics as I grew up and keeping my hopes up for a brand new GOB record.

For those who don’t have any clues on what I’m talking about, GOB is a sick Canadian Punk Rock band from Langley, British Columbia with 8 great releases put out today since 93, GOB have lived ups and downs from the music industry, leaving members and struggling to get their music to the right ears.

After 5 long years since their last record ‘Muertos Vivos’, I had an opportunity to chat last week with Steven Fairweather (GOB’s bass player) during a brief Q&A over his FB page. I obviously asked him about their forthcoming record, the band, touring and some other stuff you might be interested to hear. So you better start reading if you don’t wanna miss out about anything! Are you up for some questions for my blog? It's not that well known or anything like it, but I think it's pretty cool that you are actually letting fans ask you some shit and what not.

Alright bro! First of all thanks for letting fans and bloggers ask you a couple of questions! That does not happen too often, I think it’s great that you do such things.

I must ask -obviously- what’s the status of the new GOB record? It’s been five years since GOB launched “Muertos VIvos” and fans are literally craving for the new stuff!! (At least I do haha)

“We know it’s been a while, GOB has really gone back to a even more DIY style with the band, with producing and mixing the record ourselves, so it’s taken a bit longer, but it’s good in another way, because its exactly how we see the songs”

That's pretty good! I guess it gives the music the sound you guys truly want. Are you guys funding the whole thing? Or is there any label supporting you right now?

“No, we’re funding the whole record”

Wow, that’s great! Did you ever felt like you needed to have somehow more fan support or ask fans to help you out with it? A lot of bands use kickstarter for funding their records and what not

"Nah, we have never really talked about kickstarter, when peple come out to the shows, maybe they get a t-shirt or what have you. That’s how we can keep making records”

Awesome bro, it’s really good to know that bands are doing their thing and that the fans are doing theirs!

Alright Steven, I must ask you this. I know you’re the newest member in the band, how do you feel of being part of it?

”I did on my first show, i had about 12 days to learn 21 songs, for this festival in Winnipeg. I still remember me and Theo went over them everyday in this old boiler room/ basement, and next to me at the show, I had a lil book of "cheat sheets" in case my mind went blank"

Haha, for real? Did you get to use any of those sheets or was it all good?

“i don’t think i did... But it felt safe to have them close by… Honestly, I keep them in my bass case still, years later"

Hello and welcome back people from the universe, this is Raz speaking thru the media to every single soul that's interested in some news, or at least is bored enough to read this thing. First of all thank you for all the downloads of our new EP "Part II: Generic" so much love! What's new? Im working on the last songs you'll hear from AV in a while, another EP? Split? Also a new comp by Nacion Libre is out and it features a brand new AV song called "Broken London" feat my brother Jim(e) from Body Lice (Body Lice just released a new record, download it Here!) so be sure to grab a copy of the compilation, cuz well it's FREE and has a lot of good friends and amazing bands from Mexico! What else... Oh we'll be featured in the Infested Records compilation: Music to Bleed to vol. 3! Thank you! You got us there too! That’s pretty much all AV related news, but there’s a bunch of stuff that you wouldn’t believe! I’m working on the new From The Cradle To The Rave Track! That’s right! The Venomous Ravers are back with Vampiros (Vampires part 2) This time C-Rave feat. Anti-Venöm! It will blow yer head off once you listen to the fearless riotsteppah killahz on action! I’m also recording and producing two good friends of mine and I make guess spots on both projects, one in vocals and the other one with guitars! Isn’t that great!? Plenty of works in progress, I’ll make sure you listen to it!

What else… I’m working on the new Ben Reilly LP as we speak! If you don’t know about that thing, be sure to check it out! It’s my alter ego in electronic music like happy hardcore, techno, chiptune and stuff… check it out HERE! Oh, and last but not least, I just got an e-mail from a band from brazil called “Coconut Distroyer” those guys are great!! They send me some demos and since they do not have that much access to the computer I will help em get their shit going! Sick Crusty Grindcore with female vocals!

As many of you know, I do artwork and graphic design for bands, brands and companies for a reasonable price! We work under the name of Misery Art & Design and we’ve made some stuff for Atrocity Solution, Ghetto Blaster, Night Gaunts, C-Rave but right now we’re currently working on the LUVDUMP’s new record artwork! It’s looking great! You can check out some of the stuff we’ve done in HERE and be sure to tell your friends! With that in mind, I’m currently working on new merch for AV too and our new press kit, we’ll post some of that later too!

Yo what’s up people across the universe? I was feeling like doing something for the blog and in a way to thank your support with Planet of The Apes. Fucking awesome!

So, here’s a list of 6 of the records I listen the most lately (at least since 2012 started) and a bunch of songs that are always in my mp3 players & what not? I’m doing this cuz, sometimes I wonder (as a fan) “what are my fav artists/bands listening?” And I thought it would be cool to share what I’m listening ATM. So I’m just gonna write a bit of each record and why I like to listen to it a lot! In alphabetical order by artist, this are my most (lately) listened records.

Beatsteaks – 2009 – Limbo Messiah

This one is in fact my favorite Beatsteaks record of all times, it’s perfect. Love each song on this thing and the first time I did listen to it I couldn’t even believe how good those guys had become. Every time I listen to it, I discover new sounds and melodies that I haven’t heard before on it. The lyrics are pretty cool, have ta dig harder to fully achieve the right interpretation for them, cuz this isn’t your direct message beatsteak record/songs. Didn’t really knew about this till a couple of years ago, but this one put these guys as a mainstream euro act, that either means that this one’s really good or really bad, punx! Capdown – 2001 – Pound for The Sound

Capdown are one of the most influential bands in the skacore scene, at least to me, they’re fairly one of the best bands of the genre I’ve ever had the pleasure to hear. Lots of people may argue “Why this one and not Civil Disobedients?” Well, Pound for The Sound, represents to me the best Capdown you could ever listen to, Civil D is a classic, but this one took their sound really far away from any regular ska punk band and truly achieved something else. I simply love this record, the energy they have on stage, the lyrics and the message they deliver! Fucking amazing band!. Fav songs: Faith No More, What Doesn’t Kill You, Pound for The Sound & Dub2

Devo – 1982 – Oh No! It’s Devo

Oh No! It’s Devo… One of the most creative and intelligent bands that ever existed and this one it’s their definitive record, every song is awesome and these mofos where super pioneers of synths and samplers that still in use today. For all of you AV enthusiast, our cover song Big Mess comes from this record! What can I say, the artwork says it all, spuds! From The Cradle to The Rave – 2010 – A Nightmare on Wall Street

What can I say that I haven’t said before about this one… INFKTD is by far one of the most talented musicians of the world today and I’m more than proud to be friends with him. This record has no limitations, every song is awesome, Fuck! Riotstep can drive you mad and at the same time make you chill to the max. This record has my gratitude for helping me sleep at nights and for keeping me sane during the days, love it. Fav songs: All Seeing Eye, Murdasound!, Rally Up! Resist & The Bonus Track. Sum 41 – 2004 – Chuck

This record is the proof of mixing the right people together for a band, these Canadian kds have never sounded better. Dave Brown shows exactly what Travis Barker does to blink-182, the rest of them know what they’re doing but without them, it isn’t just the same. This record is hard, sad and a mind fucking depressive record. So sad that they’ll never sound the same way, Tom from Gob is great on guitar filling up for Brown, but he better stick to Gob. Fav songs: No Reason, We’re All Too Blame, Open Your Eyes & 88

The Toy Dolls – 1993 – Absurd-Ditties

The Toy Dolls are one of the most underrated bands in the Punk Rock history, Olga delivers his guitar solos as if he’s just fooling around with the guitar, while his weird vocal style flows with the bass and drums in perfect harmony. This record is simply brilliant, one of the masterpieces of the genre, everything’s in there, sick lyrics, sick music, sick band. You know how everybody says that NOFX created the punk rock sound of the 90’s? That’s fucking wrong, the mother fucking Toy Dolls created and perfected that sound. This one’s a must. I’m worried the most right now, I’m always depressed but sometimes the gut comes through and kills the only neuron that’s still working. I forgot the ways of the ninja, whom I decided to be a long time ago. Ninja’s never lose their stance, don’t move by emotion and wait in the shadows as long as they have to, just to deliver a deadly blow. But right now, my life has come to a point that I can’t hold this stance any longer, for who I was, and for whom once created this stance, other matters need my immediate attention.

I don’t want to cross my sword with anyone anymore; I’m unrivaled under the sun. I’m lucky enough to be who I am, but who I am is not the one I want to be. I don’t want to live, I don’t want to die. But, if the luck that protects me decides not to show up, please, lend me your help to get through this mess.

I’ve never felt lonelier than I do right now, I faced the death in the eyes of a dear friend who just passed away. She wanders around my mentor, waiting the right opportunity to take him away and the conditions I face don’t let me stay sharp. Please enlight my way and let me see further ahead. 01 – The Real Story Of Big Richard

As the title suggest, this one tells the story and life of a guy named Richard I use to be friends with. I find it ideal for opening the record, cuz it’s hard and loud. The deal with this songs and why it speaks about the guy it’s because it pains me a lot to see that people just care about money… To my personal point of view, this guy has so much potential to become someone stronger, aside from his problems, he’s been thru a lot and he doesn’t seem to realize that the best way to shut down faces is by making himself the best man he can be, not just a regular person. I’m not friends with the guy anymore, but I wonder if he’s doing alright from time to time.

CURIOUS FACT: Richard was called Pampers cuz he used to shit his pants and wear diapers.

02 – Today we’re Dead

This one’s an ode to Morning Glory, I love tha bass intro and the lyrics and the vox make straight reference to Ezra and the sounds he create and the ideals he believes and that we both share. One of my fav songs to play and definitely one of the best ones in the record.

CURIOUS FACT: This one’s Alan’s fav AV song.

03 – Annihilation Of Human Raze

The long speech sampler at the beginning it’s from one of the few interviews and documental done for the EZLN made by other countries. The voice you hear is in fact, Sub-Commander Marcos speaking about their struggle and while the lyrics don’t take any direct reference to the sampler, I love how they relate to the indigenous matter in my country, but also several problems all over the world. I love the riff and chorus.

CURIOUS FACT: There’s a blog named after this song, but in Spanish: Aniquilación de la especie humana .blogspot or something!

04 - FCUKU

I hate how people tries to hide the FUCK word from everywhere, ‘The F Word’ ‘EF You’ ‘Effin’ so I thought ‘FCUKU’ was a funny name. This one is dedicated to all the ignorant, racist self centered idiots in our lives. We’re ‘civilized’ most people in the ‘scene’ I know is really polite and good people, who reads, study, who cares, tolerate and respect others for who they are but every once in a while you cross paths with some asswipe feeling better than yourself and that’s not true, we’re all equals, so feeling the way they do, makes em in fact, less than you. So sometimes, we try to avoid problems and stuff by being nice with others, but there’s always a limit for that. Sing it proud!

CURIOUS FACT: I always fcuk the lyrics live!

05 – Misplace Man

I don’t know what to say about this one, it’s by far one of my favorites and the lyrics speak for it. The bass and guitars feel great and my favorite part is the guitar break, really cool!

CURIOUS FACTS: This one’s Mc Devlin fav AV song. This one has three different versions. This song is the most appearing AV song on youtube. The chords of this song, are the same ones on Lo-fi One Mic by the Night Gaunts. I don’t remember the lyrics order when we play it live!

06 – And So… (Part 1)

I’m sorry to break your heart, but a lot of people think this one is a love song, and it’s not. This song It’s about growing up and failing to yourself. When we where kids we had dreams, ideals and hopes for the future really different from the ones we have while we become older and while growing up, we seem to forget em and sometimes we become hypocrites about our own believes, that’s the true meaning about this one. Sometimes you have to let go. Don’t get cocky or feel bad about it, every song has its own meaning to the people who’s listening, that’s what this song mean to me, but you’re allowed to have your own interpretation of this song.

CURIOUS FACT: People doesn’t know the lyrics of this song and sing weird shit in the name of love when we play it live

07 –Looking For The Answer

I didn’t want to call this one by this name due the band name LFAA, but I didn’t have any other names for this one, I think it suits the song. It’s really different and I really love how the Spanish-English lyrics work out and the bass is amazing. Nasty Ragga from the heart!

CURIOUS FACT: We can’t play this song live cuz we don’t have enough effect pedals to make this one work

08 – Midtro

Intro, Outro… Interlude? Fuck it. I love the techno sounds this one has, one of my favorite songs. The weird speech in the back is Lenin, saying stuff about the revolution and proletarians… I’m not a fan of Marxism or communism, but I like some of their academics, especially Althusser. So, since you can’t understand a thing and it sounds kind of creepy I thought that was really cool, good idea!

CURIOUS FACT: This song sounds better live than it does on the record!

09 – I Tried to Do my Best

This one’s from 05 I believe, and it’s been arranged in 3 different ways trough time. The first lyrics were about a girl, that’s the slow part you hear at the end with the distorted piano, but honestly I don’t think those lyrics fit the song anymore. I really hate my country and most of the punk scene around here, bunch of hypocrites, so this one’s about it! I love how this one turned out and I love the new lyrics! Best guitars on the record too!

CURIOUS FACT: We can’t play this one live cuz Its too fast!

10 – 12

I don’t have a clue about this one, the lyrics are weird and I don’t have a specific topic for them… weird shit. Eitherway, this one’s from 06 and I have one live acoustic performance in video somewhere! Love to play this one live and the end with acoustics its epic!

CURIOUS FACT: This was requested on our first and second live show, I didn’t wanted to play it live, but we started doing so, cuz we do take requests!

11 – Name your Addiction

NYA was the last song to be recorded for the record; in fact it wasn’t supposed to be in this one! I love the arrangement during the bass solo, sounds beautiful! The lyrics and message is straight forward to girls trying to be sluty just to get some attention, to feel loved or to get money, but also making a direct reference to the dudes and girls who fell for it. Some women just don’t care about themselves and others abuse the powers of their pussy and tits! Sex and money isn’t everything in life!

CURIOUS FACT: The samplers from Gremlins 2

12 – Can’t Say

Another old one, about freedom of speech and our inability of making it worth a lil bit! I love this version; there should be around 3 or 4 shitty demos somewhere.

CURIOUS FACT: I hate this song, been playing it for about 7 years, I just play it live to piss someone.

13 – Don’t Get Me Wrong

I love this song! So much fun to play it live! The lyrics are a different approach to alcoholism and drug use. I hate when people drink or drug themselves because their feeling sad, they’re miserable or stuff like that... As if booze or drugs can make that go away, they make it even worse! And I also hate people saying it’s a sickness: “Poor people they can’t stop drinking, cuz they have a disease…” We’re adults and we know what’s down, if you’re gonna drink, then drink! If you’re going to get high, get high! If you wanna shoot dope, do it! You don’t need an excuse to do it or not do it, but be aware of the consequences of being intoxicated and don’t drive while you’re fucked up.

CURIOUS FACT: This one’s heavily influenced by the grindcore band Birdflesh!

14 – Propagandha

As in Propagandhi. What to say about this one… its two lyrics in one song. Ones about me stealing ideas and music from other artist while the other one is about marketing and consume. I love how this one turned out, really different than the rest of the record and sounds waaay better than the rest of it!

CURIOUS FACT: This one’s been uploaded to different servers and sites, and all of them change the name to PropagandHA! Weird shit

15 –Mc=Genocide

This one was the first song to be recorded and to be meant to be done by AV! I love it, it has everything I wanted to do since I started playing music, amazing bass, amazing vocals, melody, rhythm… What can I say, the lyrics are based in (one of) the economic crisis that started in 08, but you have ta keep using your credit cards and keep buying with loans while you don’t own the real money! Ha ha! Blame the banks, blame the institutions, whatevs it’s your own fault too!

CURIOUS FACT: We have never played this song live and I’m really looking forward to fuck it up live!

16 – Satan Vs. Cops

The most hated things of the US thinking are economic-political systems apart from capitalism and opposite religion, I think I’m gonna get a baphy tattoo mixed with the hammer and the oz just to piss a bunch of people! Nah, seriously, this song it’s me speaking of my beliefs, which are none existent in a non nihilistic way. I don’t believe in individualism either, I just think we need to come clean with a new political, social and economic structure, based in our personal and social needs based in the ethos of life but also including animals and our environment. You wouldn’t wanna die because you don’t have food to eat, right? Then don’t let any other die becuz of that! You want your nice pavement and electric installation with a pipe service installed in your block, right? Let’s make that happen to people who don’t have it!

CURIOUS FACT: The 4 (yes 4) laws of robotics from Isaac Asimov work for humans too and that’s what this song’s about! Just change ‘Robot’ for human being:

This is the 4th release by that name and it's really important to me, cuz it's the last Ben Reilly stuff you're gonna hear for a while, all because all my efforts are into AV right now.

Inertia. is a hardcore/punk/crust band heavily influenced by 70’s and early 80’s hardcore music and anarcho themes. This Ep it’s really really short and that’s the way this has ta be done! It’s really good, the loud spoken messages in some tracks make it even better, and the quality it’s straight forward from the amp and drums, perfect for this type of music.

Just to clear shit up, Inertia. Is another project of Ryan from Aim For Your Head and Hollow-Eyed and to be honest, this kid seems like a creative fucking bastard, 3 different releases in one year and all of them being good on their own terms. + AFYH drummer plays in Inertia. too, so it has ta be good by pure nature.

Victory Gin – 2011 – Bigger Pictures

Victory Gin has an unique way of doing ska/punk music, think of a really good mix between a lovely melodies, skin-ska-oi!-Vocals with that nasty ragga british accent, a hard sounding bass not too mellow or melodically tuned but perfectly in shape for the precision ska/reggae deserve; sick distorted guitars and catchy upbeat tempos in clean lo-fi sound; and a blasting drum filled with kicks and snare hits delivered in the perfect moment, along with punk and classic ska beats.

This is the devout of Victory Gin “Bigger Pictures”, an Ep that can be played in yer home stereo at really high levels and disturbing the fuck of yer neighbors with its catchy tunes or simple at a descent volume to enjoy what’s going on with the music. This is the other band from my mate Jim from Army of Ants and it’s their first release, hope they give us some new tunes by the end of this year or at least a full length by 2012, cuz after this one you’ll get in love with the choruses and the music they’re delivering.

Hollow-Eyed – 2011 – Worcester Noises

You better put a descent volume level while playing this Ep, not too loud, but not too low… and you better do this at night. Maybe you should turn off the lights and while you’re at it you should drink a glass of wine, sit back, relax yourself and think twice if this what you really want to hear… Cuz you’ll either die or feel alive by listening to Hollow-Eyed.

This record just doesn’t fit in a solid standard base, and it might not be for you if you’re not well used to fucked up music made by fucked up people. Worcester Noises is sick, twisted, vibrant, violent, dark, experimental and brilliant. Ryan (Guitar+Vocals & 1/3 of Aim For Your Head) described this project as a weird folk experimental thing… and this might be just that for some ears, but it’s creepy as fuck once you truly listen to this…

I really enjoyed this, brings thoughts in my head and emotion my heart and that’s something doesn’t really happen often… Even the artwork is sick In brief, you should really listen to Hollow-Eyed and decide for yourself whether is something you might like or not. And then it starts with “Adding on The Fears” The 80’s feel on the drumming gets at you immediately, the riff start with a powerful melody, so intense it can make you jump on excitement and at least start a head/feet movement in flow in way of the emotional vocals James has to offer! This is just the beginning of “The Parting Gift” Ep by Army of Ants. Monster guitar solos and riffs are a big part of the mix and to be quite honest, this cannot let you down, it’s not just skill, its heart and emotion.

“The Parting Gift” Ep is the Devout record by my brother Jim from Leicester, UK. And it’s simply brilliant. I love the stuff he’s doing with AoA a lot more than what he’s doing with Victory Gin (His other band) AoA It’s really different, the vibe of the music brings you back into the 80’s but adding new elements! Amazing melodies, catchy riffs, raw emotional vocals (Real emo, not what the kids listen nowadays) Synth-drums and a lot of creativity. “Death Channel” and “Never Free” can’t let you down with its upbeat tempo and melodic punk vibe, while the song that gives the name of this Ep, “The Parting Girft” Struggle between slow and fast rhythm, lot’s of changes in the song: clean-delayed guitars, amazing distortion, impressive choruses and different vocal styles from the most guttural vocals to the most melodic sing along breaks! And the fucking beginning-bridge-end of the song it’s FUCKING EPIC! This release ends with an instrumental song called “The Time Bombs Strapped to Our Hearts” and it cannot just disappoint you.

As some of you might know, Jim and I are working on a Split Ep and I can’t wait to hear what he’s gonna drop once we release this thing, it’s really different from what you normally listen to these days and I’m really excited to be on pair with this talented musician. Expect “Worlds Apart” soon, as always, it will be a free digital download at RiotSka Records, but in the meantime, you can hear two new AoA songs at youtube!!

Yo, what up guys? How is it going? Hope you’re doing better than me haha! Alright, straight to business… The last past months have been awful for my life in some ways and somehow I still feel great about other shit. So I want to talk a bit of everything

So, I’ve been busy having a life besides music & AV (or at least I’m trying to get back at it) and I feel like a need to take some holidays… It’s not gonna happen. I’m doing a guest spot in the new Gimme Crack song called ‘Speed’ and it will tear you apart with some nasty 80’s hardcore!! On the other hand, Jim (Army Of Ants) and I, are still undecided on which artwork we shall use for the split and stuff like it! Minor, but important details!! It should be out soon! If you don’t know Army of Ants, you can listen some stuff HERE

Also, I have most of the drums done for the Planet of The Apes EP which will be released in November! Which, will be a collection of never recorded songs from all my musical attempts since 2001! You might be thinking: “I want my AV now!” And you will!

I’m writing two new songs for the split with Suicide Victim, I’ve got one done and ready to go, but guess what? This split will be pressed in 7’’ Vinyl. More info to come SOON! And if you’re still wondering what happened to the Vampires single ft. C-Rave, it will be released between the AOA and SV splits! Isn’t that amazing??

I’m thinking on pressing 100 copies of “As Soon as There is Justice” just for people that wants to have some AV in a physical way, shirts and merch are delayed (As always) due my lack of pressure on those mofos and they lack of enthusiasm on working without some cash first…

That’s pretty much everything related AV, I’m gonna release another EP after the Vampires single called Misery from my other weird techno electronica project “Ben Reilly”, it’s pretty much done since last year, but haven’t got time to put it out with all the AV stuff going down.
