A recent news report shows significant increase of both men and women seeking cosmetic interventions to help them look more presentable. This was especially so for non-surgical cosmetic procedure Botox injections for wrinkles and skin rejuvenation treatment.

It was reported that cosmetic interventions, surgical and non-surgical, increased eight percent from 2006 to 2007, and 457 percent in 10 years. Since 1997, when the group began gathering its data, cosmetic interventions grew by 457 percent. By category, surgical procedures increased 114 percent and non-surgical ones 754 percent.

In 2007 alone, there were 11.7 million cosmetic interventions — 18 percent surgical, 82 percent non-surgical — generating some 13 billion dollars. Botox injections was the most frequent non-surgical cosmetic procedure last year, with 2.77 million performed, while liposuction topped the list of surgical procedures, with 456,828.

Five most performed surgical procedures last year were liposuction, breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, abdominoplasty and female breast reduction. In the non-surgical category, laser hair removal and laser skin resurfacing topped the list.

Women represented 91 percent of all cosmetic intervention patients in 2007, with 10.6 million procedures. And while men were a small minority, their number of all cosmetic intervention from 2006 to 2007 increased by 17 percent. The most frequent cosmetic surgery for men last year was liposuction (57,980), while Botox injections headed the non-surgical list (329,519). For women, breast augmentation was the surgery most performed (399,400), and Botox injection was the most done non-surgical procedure (2.45 million).

Botox injections were the most non-surgical procedure performed for both men and women last year. This shows that Botox injections for wrinkles, anti-aging and skin rejuvenation treatment is more common and increasingly popular not only for women but also for men. Anti-wrinkle Radiesse injections was the biggest surge for men last year. From these figures, it could be that more people are turning to Botox injections for anti-aging skincare treatments than using cosmetics product on the retail shelf.
