You’re the 1, Goldilocks!

My mom is really a big Goldilocks fan since my childhood years; it’s the only brand that she trusts. She would always buy / order cake in Goldilocks Taft since it is the nearest branch in our place. I would always request to have a mocha cake since that is my all time favorite ever since. And she would always buy her all time favorite which is their puto and dinuguan as well as their pulvoron.

I love parties. The fondest and the most vivid childhood memory that I would always treasure are the times when I get to celebrate my birthday with my family and friends. I grew up in Manila, particularly in Paco. I can still remember that every time my birth month is coming, I would always ask my mother or if not her my grandmother if they are planning something for my birthday.

I am excited to tell my friends that I will be having a party. I remember then, some of my playmates would always ask me if I will have a birthday cake and I would answer them with full conviction, “OO naman! Ibibili ako ng mommy ko!”(0f course, my mom will buy one for me.) and I can see the envy look on their face, even though I still really don’t know if my mom will really buy one for me. I remember then in our neighborhood, a birthday party is not a birthday party without a cake. So having a cake for your birthday is quite a big deal for my fellow playmates. Some would just buy a fancy cake from some fancy bake shops nearby, and the party would end up hearing feedbacks from my other playmates like: “Hindi naman masarap ang cake. Ang konti pa ng flowers.” (The cake doesn’t taste good and there are only a few flowers.) But if you will have a cake from Goldilocks, well, iba ka!

Well, it’s really true that mother’s knows best. And I am glad that she was able to pass it to me. .Because, as a Mom it is also the Goldilocks cake that I trust. My daughter loves it too!

Finally, New Moon’s official trailer has been released!

I am a Twilight saga fan. I’ve read all the books and just like the others, I fell in love with the story. I’ve watched the first part and I can’t wait to watch the second part of it. The movie was just an adaptation from the book, and others were complaining that the movie was different from the ones in the book. Duh! That is why it is called adaptation. But, who cares?! I still love to watch the movie!

A mother’s dilemma

I had a nice chat with my two colleagues last night, it was about parenting. It’s funny because the other one is still single but she was able to share some experiences that she had with her younger sister who is now 13 years old. She still has their parent’s with them and she’s not even the eldest in the family. But she’s the one who took care of her youngest sister since she was born. She told us that she is too worried for her sister. She does have a trust on her, but she does not trust the people around her when she is not with them. Peer pressure. That’s what she’s worrying about. Just recently, her sister asked their mother if she can now have a boyfriend. Of course their mother was really shocked and in a rage when she realized what her youngest daughter was asking. And it made me think of myself, how old am I when I had my first boyfriend? I was already in college when I had a boyfriend. And it’s not that serious. Then, here’s my friend’s sister asking their mother if she can have a boyfriend and she’s only 13. I know how hard it is for mother to give permission on what her daughter were asking her. Knowing the fact that teens nowadays are really different from before, they would do whatever they would like to do. My colleague isn’t that old not to understand her sister, but maybe because she already know what it is like to be in a real world. I know when it’s her time to have her own family; she would become a good mother.

Then there’s my other colleague, I find her a cool mom. She is really not the typical mom that you would think she is. The way she would dress up is really different. She is older than me. Once in a while I get to talk with her during our free time. She would always go in our bay just to have a small talk with us. She would give advices about health, marriage, parenting and work. But it was only last night that I have found out that beneath her cool exterior is a struggling mother to a beautiful 12 years old daughter. She also has a problem with her daughter. She admits that she is a little strict with her, since she’s the only one who looks after her. She got married at the age of 22 and had a divorce with her husband a long time ago. That is why she took all the responsibilities for their child. She was really concerned on how to discipline her daughter. It’s like she has done everything that she could to make her daughter realize that what she was saying was right. And she even talked with the school’s guidance councilor to seek some help on how to discipline her child. But even, the guidance counselor told her that her daughter really has her own decision. Even if you show her the right path, she would always side step and will take a path of what she believe is right. This vacation, she decided that she would let her daughter live with her father. To experience how it is like to be discipline by a father. She’s hoping that her decision will turn out good.

Hearing what my two colleagues were saying made me think of my own family. My mother isn’t that strict, but she would always tell us that whatever decision we would have. We should know the consequences and would take responsibility on whatever the consequence might be. And now, I have my own kid, I wonder what kind of mother I would be. I am just hoping that our daughter will be a God fearing individual.

What I have learned recently….

- I’ve learned that things that we imagine don’t end up the way we would like it to be.

- I’ve learned that we can’t control everything that’s happening in our surrounding. (Well, I know some things are inevitable, but I am always trying to change some.

- I’ve learned that each person has different character. And sometimes, we have to accept whatever flaw they have. Anyway, each one of us has our own imperfections.

- I’ve learned that the more I expect, the more I get hurt. So starting from now, I will try to lessen my expectations. And if it’s possible, maybe I should quit expecting.

I am going to buy later after office. I swear!!!! J

Oh, by the way, I am no longer working in a travel agency. I’ve got a new job. I’m now somewhere here in Makati City trying all the proxy that I know in order for me use the internet. heheheh!

Firefighter mode

I’m sick, the doctor advised me to bed rest for 2 days. So,I took my leave for 2 days at work. Yes, I’m working again. I’ve got a new job. It’s my firts time to work in a travel agency. I can say that the work is easy, but with the time or the schedule my body is still adjusting. I have to be there from 11pm to 9am. It’s a 24/7 office, and I’m in night shift wherein we cater clients from the US who wants to purchase tickets going anywhere in the world. Most of our clients are Noypi immigrants in US.

And just when I thought that I’m free from the polluted air in Metro Manila, free from different kind of smoke that can trigger my asthma attack. Well, I was wrong. Somebody maybe he lost his mind or just feeling lazy today burned the grass field behind our house which almost burned or toast us to death. When my Granny’s househelp informed us that there’s a fire near our house, we immediately looked at it only to find out that it is only a few feet away from our house. So, we didn’t waste time. My hubby climbed the roof and I climb our Granny’s water tank made of cement. And we played firefighters using water hose, pail and water dipper.

See?! I’m still wearing my pj’s hehehe! It almost burned our ranch. Whoever he/she is who did that, I hope they will never ever do it again. Or else….

Update Update!!

So, the last time I posted here was when I was still in Hopia Wonderland. Now, we’re back here in Philippines for more than a month already. Since then, I’ve been very busy with work and reading the Twilight Saga books. As soon as we get back home, I started working a week after. I’m back with teaching Koreans but have to stop again since the students needs to go back home. Winter Vacation is over. That’s the usual scenario in my job.

When I was in Hopia Wonderland, Twilight Movie has been shown here in Philippines. I only read the reviews about the movie in some sites that I usually visit. So, I was really intrigued if it’s really a nice movie. So I started looking for it in some sites that we usually visit, hoping that I could watch the movie. But to my dismay, I only had the trailer. My husband told me that if it’s a new movie I wouldn’t be able to find it in those sites that we visit. And when we’re back here, the first thing I did was finding a DVD of it. Good thing my sister have a copy, I watched it and fell in love with the vampire family. My sister told me that I should read the books since in the movie it was only the adaptation of the story. I followed her advice, I read the books and it was better than the movie. Now, I’m done with all the four books. I’m not a Twilight addict. I swear!

I told myself that I am not going to blog about this not until Tifa’s condition is really well. Tifa has been confined in the hospital for a week. T’was not a good experience for a first time mom like me and to think that we are in a foreign land where an English speaking Doctor is really hard to find. I have experienced sending people to Hospital, riding an ambulance before. But it’s different when it’s your own daughter you’re sending. The sound of the ambulance siren is like my daughter’s heartbeat. Holding her pale body was the most painful thing for me. If I could be in the same condition that very same time I really would just to spare her from all her illness. But now, SHE”S DOING WELL. Thanks to all who prayed for my daughter. We really owe you guys a lot. Thanks to our Chinese couple friends, to the Noypi’s in Shanghai and Kunshan. You guys really rock! You don’t know how grateful we are to have you. To our family and friends, thank you very much.

It may never be a nice experience for us but if we are going to look at the brighter side, it’s the experience that brings us closer to God. And A BIG THANKS TO HIM. He gave us wonderful people to be with us during our weakest time and for lending our daughter another life. It’s Him whom we owe a lot. With that, I have learned to value life more. To love more and to trust whatever plan He have for us.
