An exceptional discovery, this is a woven silk illustration or view of Shanghai China's Bund. The Bund, which runs along Zhongshan Road on the western side of the Huangpu River, was once part of the Shanghai International Settlement and was constructed between 1890 and 1935. For decades it was the center of trade in Shanghai and is today a protected architectural heritage site. This view, which is woven in silk brocade, illustrates the Bund around 1934. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/BundShanghai-hangzhourawsilk-1934>... more

This 1898 view of Beijing or Peking's Forbidden City is the original pen and ink cover art for the October 22, 1898 edition of Harper's Weekly , which is itself included with this piece. The view was drawn by Harry Fenn from, purportedly, the then 'only photograph known to have been taken of the prohibited enclosure. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Peking-harpers-1898>... more
