Brewer's wonderful architectural birds-eye view of Oxford England. Oriented to the west, this view centers on Magdalen College and the magnificent Magdalen Tower. Carriages and trolleys cross the Magdalen Bridge onto High Street while the city's many other colleges fill the background. This view specifically focuses on collegiate Oxford as opposed to the more industrial portions of the city on the opposite shore of the River Cherwell. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Oxford-brewer-1894>... more

The map covers Europe from Greenland to Africa and includes Iceland. An inset map along the left margin details the coasts of North America in the 10th century. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/EuropeViking-spruner1854>... more

The map, on two sheets, covers both England and Wales from Northumberland to Cornwall, including the Isle of Man and adjacent parts of Scotland. Small inset map on lower right quadrant of the map (on second sheet) details the Scilly Isles. As this map was issued, both England and Wales were in the midst of the Industrial Revolution wherein much of the rural agricultural population relocated to urban centers. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/EnglandWales-black-1851>... more

Like most of Colton's Europe maps, this map was derived from an earlier wall map of the World produced by Colton and D. Griffing Johnson.
