1687 Van Keulen Map of Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and Florida

Among the most scarce and decorative Dutch nautical charts of the American southeast, this is Johannis Van Keulen's and C. J. Vooght's 1687 maritime map of the Virginia, Carolina, Georgia and Florida coasts. Oriented to the west (with north to the right), this map covers from the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay southwards, along the eastern seaboard, as far as Cape Canaveral, Florida. Like most nautical charts, this map focuses on the coast line and offers limited inland data. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Carolina-vankeulen-1687>... more

The map covers the United States, Mexico, New Mexico, Central America and the West Indies or Antilles. De L'Isle first issued this map in 1703. At the time it was by far the most sophisticated map of the region yet produced, an achievement that the map historian Carl Wheat considers 'a towering landmark along the path of Western cartographic development'. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/CarteduMexiqueEtatsUnis-delisle-1783>... more

1855 U.S. Coast Survey Map of Romerly Marshes, Georgia

Romerly Marsh is a popular hunting and fishing area just south of Savannah, Georgia. In the 1850s Romerly Marsh was particularly difficult to navigate due to its 'excessive crookedness' and 'sharp bends'. Drawn on a scale of 1:10,000. The triangulation for this chart was completed by A. W. Longfellow, a nephew of the famous poet. The Hydrography was accomplished by a party under the command of J. N. Maffitt. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/RomerlyMarshes-uscs-1855>... more
