1828 Craig View of Amsterdam, Netherlands

This is an uncommon example of the 1828 view of Amsterdam, Netherlands, drawn by W. M. Craig. It features a lovely view towards the Zuiderzee (Zuyder Zee), a shallow bay in the North Sea. Ships can be seen in the forefront, and people can be seen walking along the tree lined boardwalk. This view was engraved by J. B. Neagle as part of Malte-Brun's System of Geography , Vol. I., published in New York by Samuel Walker. A fascinating example of the 1854 Justus Perthes map of northwestern Germany, Holland, and Belgium. The map covers from the North Sea to the Lower Rhine, including Holland and Belgium, as well as parts of Lower Saxony, Preuss, Rhine Province, Westphalia, Hanover, Oldenburg, Braimschweig, Waldeck, Hesse, and Nassau. In 1848 the March Revolution swept through Europe, in particular Germany. A fine example of Adam and Charles Black's 1851 map of central Europe. The map covers from Hamburg to Lake Geneva. Includes the modern day countries of Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria. This map is made in the year following the European Revolutions of 1848. These liberal uprising swept all though Europe, except Russia and the United Kingdom. Germany was particularly affected by the March Revolution of 1848. A beautiful 1855 first edition example of Colton's map of Holland and Belgium. Like most of Colton's Europe maps, this map was derived from an earlier wall map of the World produced by Colton and D. The map details the countries of Holland and Belgium with the two countries divided with color coding. The whole is surrounded by a wide border featuring charming vignettes meant to illustrate the peoples and cultures of the region. This map covers the Netherlands before the Belgian Revolution, when Belgium was still part of the United Kingdom of Netherlands. In 1830, Belgium seceded from the United Kingdom of Netherlands, but the Netherlands recognized this independence only in 1839 with the signing of the Treaty of London. A fine first edition example of M. Lapie�s 1833 map of the Kingdoms of Belgium and Holland. The map covers all of Belgium and Holland from the North Sea to the Kingdom of France. Includes the modern day nation of the Netherlands as well as adjacent parts of Germany and Belgium. Renders the entire region in extraordinary detail offering both topographical and political information. A beautiful example of Finley's important 1827 map of Belgium and Luxembourg. The title, Netherlands, refers to the old name for Belgium, Royal Netherlands or Catholic Netherlands. Just three years following the publication of this map the 1830 Belgian Revolution would create the modern Belgian state. Covers the region from Dutch Flanders to the Duchy of Luxembourg. Engraved by Young and Delleker for the 1827 edition of Anthony Finley's General Atlas . Pinkerton's extraordinary 1818 map of Belgium. Covers what is essentially today's Belgium between the Dutch Brabant and France. When this map was drawn this area was united with what is today Holland under Napoleon and the French Empire. Later the southern parts of the Netherlands, which were traditionally Catholic, would split off to form modern day Belgium. Offers considerable detail with political divisions and color coding at the regional level.
