<title>1828 Malte-Brun Map of China (with Korea and Taiwan)</title>
<description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/China-maltebrun-1828"&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.geographicus.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/S/China-maltebrun-1828-S.jpg" alt="antique map" title="Antique &amp; Rare Maps" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; This is an attractive example of the 1828 Malte-Brun map of China.  The map covers the region from Chinese Tartary in the north to Hainan in the south.  The North Vietnamese empire of Tonkin (Tungquin), Korea, Formosa or Taiwan, and parts of Japan are also included.  The course of the Great Wall is noted, however not named. <title>1879 Johnston Map of Central and Southern China</title>
<description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/China-stanford-1879"&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.geographicus.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/S/China-stanford-1879-S.jpg" alt="antique map" title="Antique &amp; Rare Maps" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; This is a fine example of the 1879 Johnston map of central and southern China.  Illustrating the journeys of the missionary John McCarthy from Chin-Kiang to Bhamo in 1877, Johnsont's map covers all of China from the borders with Burma and Tibet to Formosa.  Several tea producing areas, including Kiang-Si as 'Tea Country', Che-Kiang as 'Green Tea Country', and Fo-Kien as 'Black Tea District' are noted. <title>1835 Bradford Map of Siberia and Central Asia</title>

G. Bradford map of Siberia and Central Asia.  Centered on the supposed site of the ancient Mongolian capital at Karakorum, this map extends from the Ural Mountains and the Caspian Sea eastward as far as Siberia, Kamchatka and Japan.  It includes Korea, Mongolia, Tibet and the Chinese Empire. <title>1920 Japanese Map or View of Meiji Shrine, Shibuyu, Tokyo, Japan</title>

Meiji Shrine (???? Meiji Jingu), located in Shibuya, Tokyo, is the Shinto shrine that is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken.  When Emperor Meiji died in 1912 and Empress Shoken in 1914, the Japanese people wished to pay their respects to the influential imperial couple. Hokkaido, here identified as Yedso, is inaccurately and embryonically rendered off the northern tip of Honshu. The map covers China from the Chinese Tartary to Hainan and from Assam in India to Korea (Corea), inclusive of Formosa or Taiwan.  Four inset maps detail Amoy, Hong Kong, ZhouShan and Hainan.  The Great Wall of China is identified.  Taiwan or Formosa is mapped vaguely, representing the poor knowledge of the region prior to the Japanese invasion and subsequent survey work in 1895. The map is engraved in the fine late 18th Italian style and contains a beautiful pictorial cartouche.
