<title>1764 Bellin Map of New York City</title>

N. Bellin's important 1764 map of New York City.    The map depicts what is today the Financial District at the southern tip of Manhattan between the Hudson River and the 'Canal de la Longue Isle' or East River.   Bellin's plan of New York is taken directly from an inset attached to J. B. L. <title>1828 Smith View of New York, New York</title>

B. Smith.  It features a lovely view of the New York Harbor from the south, looking across to Manhattan.  Castle Williams on Governors Island is visible in the foreground.  Countless church towers are visible in the background while many small boats can be seen sailing in the water.  This view was engraved by J. B. <title>1848 Pease Map of Buffalo, New York</title>

Covers eastward from Lake Erie, focusing on the downtown area of Buffalo.  Upper left quadrant contains an inset of the Map of the Village of New Amsterdam - as it was christened by Ellicott – (now the City of Buffalo).  Joseph Elicott, city planner and surveyor for the Holland Land Company, designed and laid the grid system. Oriented to the west and centered on Coney Island (Cunny I.), Tiddeman's chart coves from Staten Island to Jamaica Bay and from Sandy Hook to Harlem (northern Manhattan).   There is a compass rose in the lower left quadrant.  Relief, towns, and mills are represented pictorially. The map covers Manhattan south of 131st street as well as adjacent parts of Brooklyn, Queens, Hoboken, and Jersey City.  Individual streets are named as are many individual buildings.  The map notes various fery crossing, names piers, and shows shipping lanes.  Various types of sailing, cargo, and stem vessels decorate the Hudson River.
