J. Johnson's highly desirable 1863 map of Texas. Created during the American Civil War, this extraordinary folio map details the state of Texas in full. Identifies the Elevated Table Lands, El Llando Estadado (the Staked Plain), the U.S. Mail Route, numerous geographical notations and color coding according to county. El Paso, Presidio and Behar counties are gigantic and occupy much of the western portion of the state. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Texas-johnson-1863>... more

Levasseur published several different editions of his North America map - this being the most desirable due to its depictions of the ephemeral Republic of Texas. Though cartographically minimalist, there are a number of additional important elements that are worthy of note. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/AmeriqueSeptentrionale2-levassuer-1852>... more

Dating to 1838 and published well after the death of both Aaron Arrowsmith and Samuel Lewis, this is without a doubt the last iteration of this seminal map. The present example follows the re-engraving of Arrowsmith's globular projection by Philadelphia publisher Samuel Lewis for sale to American audiences. The map details all of North America in the last year of Texas autonomy (1836 – 1846), thus the continent is divided with color coding into the United States (Vereinigte Staaten), Texas, Mexico, British America (Canada), Russian America (Russisch), Guatemala (inclusive of Panama), and the Antilles or West Indies. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/NordAmerika-lowenberg-1846>... more

The map covers the United States, Mexico, New Mexico, Central America and the West Indies or Antilles. De L'Isle first issued this map in 1703. At the time it was by far the most sophisticated map of the region yet produced, an achievement that the map historian Carl Wheat considers 'a towering landmark along the path of Western cartographic development'. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/CarteduMexiqueEtatsUnis-delisle-1783>... more

Centered on what would soon be known as Texas, this map covers from the Pacific to the Atlantic, and from the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay tot eh Isthmus of Panama. This remarkable map of the region, which predated Humboldt's landmark map of 1810, illustrates just how little was known of the American southwest north of Mexico. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Messico-zatta-1785>... more

B. Tardieu. Depicts all of Mexico and much of the United States shortly following the acquisition of Louisiana but prior to the acquisition of Florida, Texas and Upper California. This map exhibits a curious ephemeral mapping of the American Southwest based upon the Dominguez-Escalante expedition of 1776 and 1777 and Zebulon Pike's expedition of 1806. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Mexique-tardieu-1810>... more
