1705 De Fer Map of the Gulf Coast, Florida, Texas, and the Mississippi River

An uncommon map of often neglected and misunderstood significance, this is Nicolas de Fer's 1705 map of the Gulf Coast, Florida, and Texas. This is one of the earliest published maps to show any significant detail of the lower Mississippi Valley. De Fer's map covers the North American coastline from, roughly, Tampico, Mexico eastward along the Gulf of Mexico to include all of Florida and the eastern seaboard as far north as Cape Roman (vicinity of Charleston, SC). <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Misisipi-defer-1705>... more

Like most of Johnson's maps, this map was derived from an earlier map by J. H. Colton issued in 1855. Covers all of modern day Mexico as well as most of Texas, Guatemala, Belize, and adjacent regions. Includes some interesting notations such here and there as 'Uninhabited', and 'isolated maintains without grass wood or waters... <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Mexico-johnson-1863>... more

Centered on the line of the Pacific Railroad as it travels westward across the continent to California, this map covers from Omaha, to San Francisco and from Olympia, Washington to San Diego, California. States, topography, towns and cities, American Indian tribes, are boldly defined in vibrant color and fine engraving. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/PacificRailroad-william-1876>... more

Duvotenay published several different editions of this Mexico map - this being the most desirable due to its depictions of the ephemeral Republic of Texas. The map covers all of modern day Mexico and southwest United States. The map offers a number of fascinating elements including. The fictional rivers Jesus Maria and Wimmetchke are shown extending eastward from San Francisco Bay. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Mexico-duvotenay-1846>... more

The map details all of North America in the last year of Texas autonomy (1836 1846), thus the continent is divided with color coding into the United States (Vereinigte Staaten), Texas, Mexico, British America (Canada), Russian America (Russisch), Guatemala (inclusive of Panama), and the Antilles or West Indies. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/NordAmerika-lowenberg-1846>... more

The map covers the United States, Mexico, New Mexico, Central America and the West Indies or Antilles. De L'Isle first issued this map in 1703. At the time it was by far the most sophisticated map of the region yet produced, an achievement that the map historian Carl Wheat considers 'a towering landmark along the path of Western cartographic development'. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/CarteduMexiqueEtatsUnis-delisle-1783>... more

Centered on what would soon be known as Texas, this map covers from the Pacific to the Atlantic, and from the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay tot eh Isthmus of Panama. This remarkable map of the region, which predated Humboldt's landmark map of 1810, illustrates just how little was known of the American southwest north of Mexico. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Messico-zatta-1785>... more

The map depicts Mexico from the Yucatan north to what would soon become the Republic of Texas, the Louisiana Territory, and what would eventually be the U.S. States of New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, California, Nevada, Utah, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Colorado. <a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/SpanishNorthAmerica-thomson-1814>... more

Covers the United States from Santa Fe north through the Missouri Territory to Canada and east to the Atlantic.
1747 Ruyter Map of Florida, Mexico and the West Indies
