Fitch was an instrument maker working in the later part of the 18th century. As an early pioneer of steam navigation, Fitch tested several steamboats on the Delaware River between 1785 and 1788. This view was prepared by H. J. Toudy for the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition and was issued one year before the actual event.  The buildings and park grounds were based upon architectural plans and landscape renderings. <title>1871 Vaux and Olmstead Map of the Concert Grove, Prospect Park, New York City</title>

His map focuses on the section of Prospect Park now occupied by Wollman Rink and the adjacent Concert Grove.  Pathways, individual trees, pavilions, boat landings, seats, and fountains and depicted. <title>1871 Kellogg and Pilat Map or Plan of Canal Park, New York City</title>

It shows the plan of improvements of Canal Street Park, located between Canal Street and West Street above Holland Tunnel.  The map notes the location of trees and shrubbery within the triangular park.
