<title>1936 Farwest Shriners Pictorial Map of Washington State</title>
<description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/Washington-farwest-1936"&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.geographicus.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/S/Washington-farwest-1936-S.jpg" alt="antique map" title="Antique &amp; Rare Maps" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; This is a beautiful example of the vibrantly colored 1936 pictorial Shriners map of the Pacific Northwest.  This map was created to commemorate the 62nd Imperial Council Session of the A.A.O.N.M.S. (Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine) held in Seattle, Washington from July 13-16, 1936.  Centered on Seattle, the map covers western Washington states and parts of adjacent Oregon and British Columbia. The map covers the entrance to Coos Bay from Cape Gregory to South Slough and north beyond Pigeon Point along the Coos River.  The map offers fine detail both along the coasts and at sea with countess depth sounds, notes on lights, rocks, and breakers, and some topographical detail.  Notes on tides appear in the upper left quadrant. <title>1760 De L'Isle Speculative Map of the North America, the Arctic, and Siberia  (Sea of the West)</title>
<description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.geographicus.com/P/AntiqueMap/NouvellesDecouvertsArctic-delisle-1730"&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.geographicus.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/S/NouvellesDecouvertsArctic-delisle-1730-S.jpg" alt="antique map" title="Antique &amp; Rare Maps" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; The Dezauche issue of Joseph Nicolas De l'Isle's extraordinary 1730 map of North America, Siberia, the Arctic, and the North Pacific.  J. N. De L'Isle and Buache drew this map to illustrate their speculations on the feasibly of a Northwest Passage.   Cartographically this map is a combination of data absconded from the Russian “Academy of Sciences” and Buache’s speculations on the Northwest Passage. <title>1786 La Perouse Map of Vancouver and British Columbia, Canada</title>

When drawn in 1787 La Perouse’s map was the only available map of this region not based on the survey work of Captain Cook.
