Children in these types of families or situations are often receptive to the emotions going on around them, and can develop these types of panic attacks. Children have many social strains on them in today’s world, as well as educational ones. It is becoming more and more common today to see panic attacks and anxiety disorders in children then in years past.

If your child is having symptoms of panic attacks, such as shortness of breath, a constant feeling of being tense, nausea, and fears of impending doom to name a few, then chances are they should be treated, especially if the family history shows others to have had these same problems. Cognitive therapy and possible medications are the two most commonly used treatment options for children with panic attacks. The therapy is just a way for the child to learn that the symptoms are actually symptoms and not how they are supposed to feel, and this alone may help wonders. They will learn how to replace the bad thoughts with good ones, and stymie an attack before it starts.

Depending on the severity of the child’s panic attacks and anxiety issues, medication such as a low dose of Xanax may be prescribed to deal with the worst of it. There is always a risk of addiction with these types of drugs, so therapy and learning ways to deal with the attacks as they begin are often more accepted practice. If your children, panic attacks or anxiety symptoms aside, seem to be losing interest in the things they loved to do and other downward or depressing behavior starts, it may be time to seek professional help.

See panic away for more help in treating anxiety and panic attacks naturally.

Cures for Panic Attacks

As a long time sufferer myself of panic attacks, I’ve sought far and wide for a non medicinal cure for panic attacks, and I am here to say that there is hope. If you’ve experience a panic attack before, and since you’re reading this it’s safe to say you have, then you know firsthand how awful and life altering they are. For some, attacks can be triggered by different types of anxiety, and others it could be triggered by certain fears or phobias, such as public speaking. Whatever causes you to fall into a panic attack, there are most definitely ways to manage them.

While it may be easier if you know the exact cause for a panic attack to occur, many people can’t really pinpoint and specific event, as it could be more of a gradual build up of anxiety that leads to the attack itself. If you do know the direct cause, then you can immediately begin working on that aspect of yourself, trying to confront that fear or phobia to a point where it becomes cognitive, or in other words, routine. For the rest of us, there are ways to stymie a panic attack the moment it starts.

Try to change whatever situation you are in at the moment your panic attack begins. If you’re stuck at home, go take a walk, just do whatever you can to change your circumstances, and that could very well help to stop the attack before it starts. Even simply thing such as drinking some tea or some ice cold water can help stop an attack at the onset, and some people have even had success in purposely causing themselves to hyperventilate. The purpose of these things is to get your mind off of whatever it’s panicking over, and focused on something else. Whatever you try and do, if you find something that seems to work, don’t forget it. While there isn’t a specific cure for panic attacks, hopefully you have and will learn from these tips and such to help you going forward.

See panic away for more help in treating anxiety and panic attacks naturally.

Check it out!

Most of the time, we can handle life’s different challenges with grace but when stress gets the better of us and we begin to have severe anxiety attacks regularly, in which case, we might be developing an anxiety disorder. Social Anxiety is one such disorder that can affect our lives and become debilitating. But before treatment can be undertaken, a proper diagnosis is essential.

Broken down, Social Anxiety Disorder stems from its two main words, “social” and “anxiety.” This disorder makes you fear and worry about being humiliated or laughed at. If you have been diagnosed with this disorder, you might have a panic attack every time you are the center of attention or if you are in front of a large group of people. You might also fear that you might say something to embarrass you in front of a group and this could cause you to stay away from parties or other social gatherings. How do you know if you have a social anxiety problem? Below are the different Social Anxiety Disorder symptoms.

1. The fear of different social situations. You might have a severe anxiety attack when with a group of people, such as in parties, talks and other social situations. Your heart might start palpitating, you might have difficulty breathing and you might start sweating profusely when faced with these incidents.

2. The fear of parties or social gatherings long before the actual event. Because you fear experiencing panic attacks during social events, you might dread the thought of the party of event itself. Symptoms include having nightmares or having trouble sleeping just thinking or worrying about social events or situations.

3. Thinking up situations that might embarrass you. This symptom can disrupt your life and keep you from enjoying the company of other people. If you have a social anxiety disorder, you might imagine different situations wherein you say something embarrassing or do something shameful. This, in effect, can cause you to avoid parties and other social events.

4. You get an anxiety attack every time you think of other people criticizing you. Although criticism is very hard to take, if you have any Social Anxiety symptoms, you take criticism extremely badly. This could cause you to get stressed every time you have to make a speech or presentation. This could also stop you from talking to others, meeting new people or even going on dates for fear of being shamed or criticized.

5. You feel all the symptoms of panic attacks at social events. Your heart might start palpitating, you start sweating and breathing heavily every time you are in parties or each time you are asked to speak in front of class. Although most of us are scared of speaking up or talking in front of people, if you suffer from a social anxiety disorder, these feelings are intensified.

Each one of us may feel anxiety when we are in situations that are new to us such as a first date or presenting an important project in front of a group of people. Sometimes, though, if you experience any of the above Social Anxiety Disorder symptoms, then you might be developing a serious disorder. It’s best to get diagnosed and treated right away before anxiety and stress starts taking over your social life.

View the original article here

Phobias and other anxiety disorders sometimes develop due to a chemical imbalance in the brain, especially with the chemical serotonin, which also affects depression in some people. Evolution comes into play, because you automatically have a fight-or-flight system built into our brains. The foods we eat, amount we exercise, and sleep we get every night all play roles into how our brain functions.
Lastly, anxiety disorders might develop because of stress. While you are anxious regarding something, you may find that you slowly start to wear out. Despite the fact that our bodies are created to tackle certain amounts of stress, over time, this merely breaks down and we give in to anxiety, which can develop into an anxiety disorder. Sometimes when the mind is upset, worried or disturbed, its expression comes out in the form of various physical expressions. They may be head ache, stomach pangs, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, dizziness etc. These problems form a panic attack. Sometimes these attacks become so aggravated that they become difficult to be controlled. In fact, an attack itself shows that the anxiety levels in a person have crossed the endurance level. Sometimes these attacks get so serious that the person also has to be taken to hospital.

The best way to stop an attack is to deal with the problem of anxiety when it’s still growing. Panic attacks occur only when anxiety had already grabbed hold of a person completely. There are some ways to deal with panic attacks and they have been described below:

Breathe and Relax: When ever you feel a sense of panic growing in you, take a seat and relax for a while. Breathe slowly; concentrate on some positive feeling or rather concentrate on nothing. Just don’t let your mind wander to the very reason that causes panic attack. Breathing and relaxing will bring your mental activity to normal and stop the abrupt changes so that you feel the attack disappear.

Take rest regularly: Often these attacks are a result of stress and pressure. Thus, anyone who suffers from anxiety should take proper rest to make the mind free and fresh. Eight hours of sleep is a must to unveil the body of all the pressure and rest.

Do meditation and yoga: Thirty minutes of yoga or meditation daily will help you a lot if you suffer from panic attacks. Yoga relaxes the mind. Very recently, Yoga has emerged from a remedy to innumerable problems. Panic and Anxiety attacks are one of them.

The best part about Yoga is that it is completely natural and hence harmless. Avoid Caffeine: Most of us consume multiple cups of coffee everyday to keep working for long hours. It is true that coffee increases resistance and develops the strength to keep working continuously. But coffee also has caffeine and excess of caffeine leads to high blood pressure which cause anxiety attacks. So, avoid caffeine.

Develop a positive attitude: Panic attacks are an expression of our inner negative fears and to counter them successfully, you need to develop a positive attitude. Whenever you get an attack, concentrate on a positive happy memory. This will form your shield against negativity and protect you from your inner fears.

Panic and Anxiety Attacks are co-related. Dealing with one will lead to dealing with the other. These Attacks are nothing but your fears coming out alive. Fighting with panic or anxiety attacks only means fighting with your fear. Once you learn to fight your fears, Your problem will itself be solved.

But if you suffer from anxiety, it does feel like you are the only one in the world that has to deal with this serious problem. For some people, the anxiety is mild and light, but for others who suffer from panic attacks and phobias, it can be crippling.

Regardless of the severity of the condition and how your anxiety manifests itself, help is finally here. Allow me to show you some of the most effective systems and methods that can help you stop and get rid of anxiety forever!

The Diversion Tactic

I consider myself as a person who has to suffer from mild to severe anxiety and panic attacks. The mildest of the attacks come in the form of fear and discomfort as well as insecurity. Similar condition can be dealt with by reinforcing confidence and self-belief.

But however, when I got on an elevator, my heart would start to beat quickly. I would start sweating as if it was raining. Fear and insecurity would usually soon take over. It’s a terrible experience. But I have found a very simple method to deal with panic attacks and other anxiety-related problems – divert your mind to other things.

Let’s do an exercise: Take a deep breath, and recall of your last attack. I know it’s scary, but just try to recall every single detail. In the end, did you get hurt? I am sure not. It is safe to assume that anxiety attacks, regardless of how it manifests itself, are not as harmful and dangerous as they appear to be.

With this in mind, I want you to try to divert your mind from your fears. It’s almost impossible to face the triggers of anxiety attacks, but it’s very easy to think about something else and focus on just that, instead of fearing that something bad might happen.

When you are able to interrupt a thought that can possibly lead to an anxiety attack, then you are halfway there! You will be in charge. You will not give in to your fears. You will be able to live your life happily without any anxiety, worries and fears.

Also it seems to me that stress and energy have important roles to play when it comes to anxiety and panic attacks. When you are in a state of low energy and excessive stress, you are more prone to getting an anxiety attack. So make sure you deal with both of these daily.

If you enjoy these, please share them with your friends.

Self help anxiety relief is all about awareness and adjustment. Or, more simply put, doing more of what helps and less of what hinders your progress. Here's some interesting reading on one of our favourite methods of managing anxiety and an informative piece on how caffeine can really mess things up.

From Reuters - Yoga, already proven to lower high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, can cut in half the risk of a common and potentially dangerous irregular heartbeat, according to a U.S. study released on Saturday.

In addition to halving the episodes of atrial fibrillation, the study found that yoga also reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression related to the condition. read the full article here

A couple of weeks ago I got a call from someone asking for advice on reducing stress and improving their sleep, during that conversation they mentioned they were thinking of cutting out energy drinks because they felt they were contributing to the problem. Shann and I touched on this in our discussion on anxiety relapse and how to get through it - and I was just about to write more on it when Jason Herrington published a piece that covered it perfectly. Here's what he had to say:

Can energy drinks cause anxiety? The short answer is yes.

Energy drinks can stimulate your nervous system. Anytime your nervous system gets a jolt, you can be rest assured that symptoms of anxiety aren’t too far behind.

Many energy drinks contain high levels of caffein, guarana, sugar or yerba mate which can produce heightened symptoms associated with anxiety. If you are sensitive to caffeine or any sort of stimulants, I would suggest you stay away from energy drinks. Read the full article here...

View the original article here

I am not an expert on homeopathy but I have read into the subject. My general impression is that it is a rather dubious speciality lacking in any scientific proof as to its effectiveness. There seems little reason to believe that the impact it has on an individual falls beyond what is known as the placebo effect.

A placebo is an inert, non-active substance that has no chemical or physical effect on an individual. Placebos are routinely used in medical research to try and ascertain the utility of a new drug. There are times when a physician may give a patient a placebo as a substitute for a real medication but this practice is discouraged and usually considered unethical.

Placebos work because people want to believe that something they do or take will make them feel better. The research on placebos throws up some interesting data. A large tablet is perceived as more effective than a small one. A “hot” colored table is more effective as a stimulant. A “cold” colored table is more effective on depression. (Remember, we are taking about placebos that have no active ingredient in them and cause no physical effect whatever.) Injections are among the most powerful placebos and this may account for some of the effectiveness of acupuncture.

A physicians words may be a sort of placebo. Telling a patient you can help them is more powerful and effective than telling them you will try and help them.

Is homeopathy just a sort of placebo? Well, if we look for scientific evidence for its effectiveness we have to conclude that it is just the placebo effect. However it could be likely there are natural substances that serve as healing agents. After all, aspirin was used by Hippocrates himself and he created it from the bark of the willow tree!

The main danger with seeking homeopathic remedies is that a person may have a serious medical problem that requires traditional treatment. In other words, let the buyer beware!

View the original article here

In other words, you don’t just get chest pain, you get potential heart attacks. You don’t just get headaches, but potential brain tumors and so on.

Learning how to break the chains of absolute thinking is essential to getting rid of your abnormal anxiety.

At the height of my anxiety illness I’d always rely on my best guess about what was going to happen because of my severe anxiety. I sat around and dreamt up outlandish disasters and always thought in terms of worst case scenarios.

Every time I experienced anxiety I absolutely thought something bad was going to happen to me. And it was this long term anticipatory anxiety that kept my anxiety alive and kicking.

What I didn’t know then was that this is normal for someone with an anxiety problem. See, anxiety doesn’t just turn on fear. It also turns on worry, hostility, assumption, and insecurity, among other things.

All of your emotions, thoughts, and physical symptoms get interlocked and aimed at the same target, namely how to find ways to forecast and avoid your worst fears. Of course, just because your brain wants to do this doesn’t mean you have to let it.

There are steps you can take to regain control of your thoughts and behavior, so you can stop living in the future.

Over the last few weeks I’ve talked about the importance of learning how to adapt to anxiety and change. Both of which are key ingredients for reducing anxiety.
