We’re all individual in our traumas, but completely universal in our post-trauma experience. What you’re feeling many others do also. While you have to find your own unique healing path, there are some things every single one of us needs along the recovery journey: education, compassion, creativity, ideas, hope and belief to name a few. These things are critical in developing your personal strategy for moving forward after trauma. They’re also the cornerstones of my trauma recovery story…

In this week's podcast we are talking about foods and spices that can help you reduce anxiety according to Ayurveda.

Here are some key points:

Pay attention to what is going on in your body.

Vata body types are most prone to suffer from anxiety which is often provoked by dryness.

Gas, bloating and constipation are indications that Vata is increased in your body.

If there is a condition that is provoked by dryness we can gently apply the opposite for relief. For example: warm drinks, warm soups and slightly oily foods can help relieve dryness in the body.

The goal is to balance cold and dryness with warm, wet and slightly oily foods.
-Olive oil and Sesame oil
-Warming herbal teas like Chamomile & Fennel are supportive

Reduce caffeine
-Look into cereal coffees like Chicory or Barley as an alternative

All dairy products are nourishing for the disturbed Vata type
-Yogurt, warm milk with nutmeg

Experiment and play with new and healthy items in your kitchen

Empower yourself with simple, nourishing recipes to balance cold and dryness.

Please share your concerns here and we'll address them in an upcoming Anxiety Slayer Session.

Community response:

"How can you remember anything, when everything comes at you so fast?"

Discussion:

In response to this question, you can't remember everything. When you feel like everything is coming at you too fast, it's time to stop.

When you're feeling mentally used up you have cut back on your responsibilities.
Sometimes the expectation to remember everything is setting the bar too high.
Be mindful of your expectations.

Suggestions for when your brain is full you can't take anything else in:

Stop and take a breath

Assess the situation

Write things down

Ask for help

Learn to delegate

You don't have carry the weight of everything on your shoulders.
When you're feeling like it's all to much, STOP and take a breath before you're made to stop.

This week we're responding to a comment left on our Facebook page:

"People that haven't lived it will never understand the terror."

We respond with empathy and loving kindness. Here are a few talking points in this week's episode:

Open up a dialogue with someone you trust.

What have you learned through your experience with anxiety?

Those who have suffered with anxiety can open our hearts, support and empathize with others.

Commune with groups of people who understand.

Seek out supportive materials to help you calm your anxious mind.

When you feel overwhelmed with anxiety having understanding support is essential. Sometimes we've found help from "friends" we haven't even met. Insightful authors like Louise Hay and Claire Weeks have been witnesses and friends to thousands of people suffering with emotional pain, stress and anxiety.

In your search for understanding remember to look at blogs, podcasts, books and audio support. We recoomend that you gather a collection of supportive material from people who really do understand what you are going through - whether you know them or not.

In this week's podcast we are continuing to offer self-help solutions to the anxiety questions we received in the comments on facebook.

This week's session: "I can't seem to escape worry. It seems no sooner does one worry end, then another replaces it."

Talking points for this week's episode:

Shann and Ananga share real life examples about the nature of worry.

We share how you can be rid of persistent unwanted thoughts by using Bach Flower Remedies & EFT Tapping.

Ask for help. Talk to someone you know, like and trust. Get your worry off your chest with a supportive witness.

EFT self-help script: "Even though it's in my nature to worry, I love and accept myself completely."

I'm learning to trust the process...

For most of this lifetime I've tried to control my outcomes. I liked being the woman who made things happen. Not anymore. What I've noticed is that the more I try to push my agenda, the more anxious and agitated I become. Trying to manage every little thing is exhausting.

This year I've declared that I will do my best to trust the process of my personal and professional unfolding.

I define trusting the process by setting an intention and moving in the direction of what I wish to experience without attachment to the outcome. Admittedly, as a recovering type a perfectionist, this is something I have to recalibrate on a daily basis. The awareness of the controlling behavior I wish to change makes my old patterns easier to break.

Where are you trying to push for an outcome?

How is that working our for you?

What might happen if you set your intention and then let it unfold?

Where in your life can you make more time to trust and surrender?

How You Can Trust The Process

Set your intention

Make incremental action

Celebrate each step

Ask for support

Be grateful for every bit of the process

Marvel in your ability to trust and surrender

Do your best to remain unattached to the outcome

Loosen the reigns on your life. Take a deep breath and do your best to trust the process.

I have a lot of trouble believing myself when I tell myself it's just anxiety. When those pesky physical side effects kick in there's always a niggle of doubt - what if it's something else?

I understand it's my subconscious trying to protect me, but it still has a way of undermining all the good I'm doing - plaguing me with self doubt, which frustrates me to no end... I'm Using EFT, and yes it's helping, but it hasn't taken away those niggles....

In this week's podcast we're answering a question that arrived in our inbox about illness and anxiety:

I am seeking your help again. This time is about anxiety during illness. I had a cough and cold that has resulted in pneumonia. I am safely on antibiotics now but continue to experience anxiety, especially around breathing as I am still congested, wheezy and slightly short of breath. My anxiety is very much under control in most areas of my life thanks to yoga, guided meditations, EFT, and a better understanding of how to pace my days to avoid overwhelm - until I get sick!

It seems even mild physical complaints can send me into a panic. I find coughs and colds particularly trying as I cannot use meditation techniques that focus on breathing during those times.

Any ideas that can relieve cough and cold symptoms, and also relieve anxiety when a cough makes breathing for relaxation a challenge? Finally, any tips for working through health anxiety in general?

Thanks so much for all you do. I've never felt 'alone' with my anxiety since I found Anxiety Slayer!
