Music Together is a music and movement program for children aged newborn through kindergarten. First offered to the public in 1987, the program is now offered in over 1700 communities in the United States, as well as in 22 other countries around the world. This expansion has been accomplished through independent centers which are licensed to use the program. All teachers must attend and pass a Music Together teacher training.

Since its inception, Music Together has emphasized the importance of having parents and caregivers actively participate in class with their children. This is based in part on the work of early childhood educator Lilian Katz, who noted that while children can learn skills and knowledge from any adult, they learn dispositions only from their loved ones; by participating in class as musical role-models, parents and caregivers help impart to their children the disposition to become life-long music-makers.

Music Together attends over twenty-five conventions each year to help the teachers stay current on the research occurring in early childhood music and movement.

One of the Music Together community is Ohana Music Together located at Honolulu, Hawaii. Its fall semester begins September 22nd and lasts ten weeks, meeting once a week for 45 minutes. Each semester is a different song collection (nine overall), so a different song book and CD are distributed each semester. The classes are held at The Dance Space at University Square and at The Growing Nest in The Shops at Ward Warehouse.

The World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) is an annual music festival held in Festival City, Roseau, Dominica. It has been held since 1997. The festival witnessed a total attendance of well over 25,000 in 1999. It is widely seen as one of the only truly indigenous music event in Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean by extension.

The World Creole Music Festival is not simply a music festival, it’s now an important part of Dominica's independence celebration (November 3rd). The 2008 WCMF will be held from October 30 to November 2.

From the year 2007, the World Creole Music Festival is staged in the new Windsor Park Stadium in the heart of the city of Roseau. The three nights of pulsating rhythms are preceded by four days of Creole music and cuisine in a day-time event called "Creole in the Park" held at the scenic Botanic gardens of Roseau.

Since the festival is held around the time of Dominicas Independence celebrations, patrons and visitors to the island are afforded numerous opportunities to sample the local cuisine and get an appreciation of the rich cultural attributes of The Nature Island.

In the early 1970s, Los Incognitos de Pétionville became Tabou Combo, whose 1969 Haiti incorporated major influences from American funk and began a swift rise to international stardom for the band and the Haitian music scene. By 1984, Tabou Combo had become chart-toppers in Paris and elsewhere across the globe.

September 7, 2008 A Singing Program for Parkinson's Patients

Barbara Hyder is volunteering with the Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida in Naples to start a singing program and perhaps an instrumental program. She’s hoping to help people with Parkinson’s disease learn how to sing, which can strengthen their vocal muscles, potentially help their speech and stave off depression.

Hyder will be hosting an organizational meeting on Monday, Sep 8 at 10:30 AM at the association’s center for people with Parkinson’s disease who are interested in taking part or who want to play a musical instrument.

Parkinson's disease (also known as Parkinson disease or PD) is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that often impairs the sufferer's motor skills and speech, as well as other functions.

Studies have found that music can help people with Parkinson’s disease with their movement and speech, as well as help with depression, said Jacque Urso, executive director of the Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida. Urso said one out of every 100 people over the age of 60 is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Some younger people are diagnosed with the disease too.

A researcher from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland has found that strong personality attributes are linked to our choices in music, with classical lovers more likely to have strong self-esteem and creative tendencies and dance fans being outgoing without being very gentle.

Prof Adrian North, who conducted the study, said the findings were very revealing and that our musical tastes can be seen as a direct reflection of our characters. “Researchers have been showing for decades that fans or rock and rap are rebellious, and that fans of opera are wealthy and well-educated, but this is the first time that research has shown that personality links to liking for a wide range of musical styles. We asked people to rate how much they liked 104 musical styles, before then completing a personality test. 36,518 people from all around the world took part, and the research is by far the largest study of musical preference and personality ever undertaken.”

“Jazz and classical music fans are creative and have good self-esteem, but the former are much more outgoing whereas the latter are shy. Country and western fans are hardworking and shy, whereas rap fans are outgoing. Indie fans lack self-esteem, and aren’t terribly gentle people, but are at least creative. Contrary to the stereotype, heavy metal fans are gentle and at ease with themselves”

“People often define their sense of identity through their musical taste, wearing particular clothes, going to certain pubs, and using certain types of slang. It’s not so surprising that personality should also be related to musical preference.”

The researchers also found that your personality and lifestyle said a lot about the kind of emotional reactions to music that you have. If listeners preferred exciting, punchy music they were more likely to be on a higher earning bracket with those opting for relaxing sounds more inclined to be lower down the pay scale.

The Stroke Association is the only British charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages.

Every day, The Stroke Association witnesses people displaying immense courage and determination, as they work to overcome the effects of stroke, as well as great patience and persistence in overcoming disabilities and relearning old skills. The Stroke Association also sees people showing true compassion and commitment in encouraging others to rebuild their lives by providing them with the support they need. It is for this reason that The Stroke Association organizes the Life After Stroke Awards.

Cyril Merle, aged 91, Storrington, West Sussex, is the winner of 2008 Adult Courage Award for people over 65 years. Aged 86 he had a stroke which initially left him paralyzed on the left side including his arm and leg. He also had difficulty eating and speaking.

Now Cyril dances better than he walks and lives life to the full. He says music kept his brain active and acted as a strong motivating force for him to get mobile again.

"I would tell anyone else who has had a stroke like me, to get involved with music."
Cyril says.

Playing air guitar is a form of dance and movement in which the performer pretends to play rock or heavy metal-style electric guitar solos. Playing an air guitar usually consists of exaggerated strumming and picking motions and is often coupled with loud singing or lip-synching. Air guitar is generally used in the imaginary simulation of loud electric guitar music.

Since 1996 the annual Air Guitar World Championships contest has been a part of the Oulu Music Video Festival in Oulu, Finland which nowadays governs Air Guitar World Championships Network of official national championship competitions. In 2007 the network consisted of seventeen countries: Finland, USA, New Zealand, Canada, The Netherlands, Austria, Greece, Mexico, Norway, United Kingdom, Switzerland, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Japan, and Australia.

The judging panel included Finnish guitarist Juha Torvinen, and prizes included a custom made 'Flying Finn' guitar and VOX BM Special amplifier donated by Queen guitarist Brian May. The ideology behind the event was that "wars would end and all the bad things would go away if everyone just played air guitar."

Returning 2006 United States champion Craig Billmeier, who uses the stage name Hot Lixx Hulahan, claimed a second national title in the 2008 US Air Guitar National Finals, held in San Francisco, California, on August 8, 2008. Hulahan won the title despite fracturing his thumb during the first round of competition.

August 26, 2008 The Car Music Project

The Car Music Project is both the name of a project and the name of a band conceived and led by American composer Bill Milbrodt. The band, a live performance and recording ensemble, is part of the project.

Milbrodt wanted playable musical instruments created from his own car, and wanted them to represent the four instrument families of the traditional orchestra: winds, brass, percussion, and strings. He started the project in 1995. To accomplish his goal, he hired professional auto mechanics to disassemble his car, and commissioned metal sculptor Ray Faunce III to create a series of playable musical instruments from the car's parts.

Milbrodt and his team have fully documented the general capabilities and tuning idiosyncrasies of all the instruments.

A band called the "Car Music Project" was started by Milbrodt in early 2005. The band members include Eric Haltmeier on reed and non-reed instruments classified as "winds", James Spotto on instruments classified as "brass", William Trigg on percussion, and Wilbo Wright and Milbrodt on strings. The band's leader and composer is Milbrodt. The Car Music Project performed several concerts in 2005, culminating with a performance at the Philadelphia Live Arts & Fringe Festival. Most recently the band appeared at Lincoln Center Out of Doors on 8/5/07.

August 25, 2008 Tour de Second Chance

	Musician Richard Gates (see photo by Barbara Gates) of Jamaica Plain is a bass player. He is a 57 year old cardiac transplant recipient who started the self-designed Tour de Second Chance on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. The Tour is a 750 mile bike ride from Cleveland, Ohio to Boston, Massachusetts. Richard expects to reach Boston by August 30.
He is riding to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation, support the cardiac transplant community and celebrate the athlete he has nurtured with his new donor heart. Partnering with the Donate Life campaign he hopes to encourage people to consider registering to become organ donors. By example, he is also interested in inspiring those with heart disease and living with donor hearts to make positive lifestyle choices and be compliant with their medications and diet. “I understand that there aren’t enough hearts for everyone waiting ”, Richard reflects, “ so since I was fortunate enough to receive one, it seemed the honorable thing to do for myself and my donor’s family to take the best care of myself as possible. When I have a challenging day, I remember that and sometimes that means mustering up extra discipline or restraint in the moment to do the right thing.” Before his transplant Richard was a long-distance runner and ran 12 marathons. He learned he had cardiomyopathy as symptoms started hindering his running. As the cardiomyopathy claimed his strength, he managed his health with vigilant attention to all aspects of his life. His story is one of taking responsibility for being a partner in his healthcare program, not just a patient. Now in his fifth year as a donor heart recipient, Richard wants to share his story and help raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.

	Wyclef Jean has written and recorded an anthemic new song, "Venus (I'm Ready)," inspired by the spirit, character and prowess of American tennis champion Venus Williams (see photo by Brett Weinstein). At the age of 14, Venus Williams became a professional tennis athlete. At the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China she was seeded seventh but lost to unseeded Li Na in the quarterfinals 7–5, 7–5. She did, however, earn a gold medal (with her sister Serena) in women's doubles. It was their second gold medal as a team, having won together in Sydney, Australia in 2000. Williams is seeded seventh in the upcoming U.S. Open. In her first round match she is scheduled to play Samantha Stosur. If everything goes well, Williams could face her sister Serena for the third time this year.
	Wyclef Jean (see photo) is a Haitian American musician, actor, producer and member of the hip hop trio The Fugees. His sixth and latest studio solo album, "Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant," featured the platinum-selling "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)," Wyclef's first Top 10 single as a solo artist. "Venus (I'm Ready)" is scheduled to premiere as Venus Williams' theme music during the 2008 US Open tennis tournament (August 25 to September 7, 2008) in Flushing, Queens, New York.

August 23, 2008 Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann Music Festival of Ireland

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2008 is taking place this week in Tullamore, County Offaly until Sunday 24th August. It is the largest festival of Irish music, song and dance, with over 200,000 people gathering from all over the world this weekend for this immense cultural celebration.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2008 set a new world record for the Largest Traditional Irish Session ever with 2,845 musicians, singers and dancers playing for 56 minutes, after the opening parade of Irish counties and countries from around the world. The gathering of 2,845 musicians beat last year’s inaugural event, which attracted about 2,700 musicians from all over the world.

The first national festival of Irish traditional music was held in Mullingar, early in 1951. At the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann inaugural meeting in September 1951 it was decided to create a national festival named Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann (Festival of Music in Ireland).

The goal of the Fleadh Cheoil has been to establish standards in Irish traditional music through competition. The Fleadh has developed as a mainly competitive event, but it also includes showcases of concerts, céilithe, parades, pageants, and street sessions.

Today (2008), nearly 50 years on, fleadhanna at each level provide a platform and a meeting place for the thousands of musicians (around 20,000 performers compete in fleadhanna each year), singers and dancers who carry on the tradition.

And when the competitions are over, all can join in impromptu sessions which sometimes last until the early hours.

Broadway Play: All My Sons

All My Sons is a 1947 play by Arthur Miller (see photo). The play was twice adapted for film; in 1948, and again in 1986.

The play, which opened on Broadway at the Coronet Theatre in New York City on January 29, 1947, closed on November 8, 1947 and ran for 328 performances, was awarded the 1947 Tony Award for Best Play.

All My Sons is based upon a true story, which Arthur Miller's then mother-in-law pointed out a story in an Ohio newspaper. The story described how a woman informed on her father who had sold faulty parts to the U.S. military during World War II.

Arthur Miller’s writing in All My Sons often shows great respect for the great Grecian tragedies of the likes of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. In these plays the tragic hero or protagonist will commit an offence, often unknowingly which will return to haunt him, sometimes many years later. Also, when his offence catches up to him, the events of the play all occur within the time span of one 24 hour day. The protagonist must then learn his fault and suffer as a result, and perhaps even die. In this way the gods are shown to be just and moral order is restored. Other examples of links between All My Sons and Greek tragedy is the fact that All My Sons takes place in 24 hours and exploration of the father-son relationship. Ann Deever could also be seen to parallel a messenger as her letter is proof of Larry's death.

All My Sons is a criticism of the American Dream. Joe Keller, a representative type who would be considered an ordinary American, has lived through the Depression and despite a lack of education he has been able to own a factory, which he hopes his son will inherit. However, Keller’s quest for money leads to his responsibility for the deaths of 21 American pilots.

Keller has apparently achieved the 'American Dream' - he lives in a 'comfortable' house despite being an 'uneducated man.' Miller is emphasizing the hollowness of the American Dream and that one should 'think about the consequences of our actions.' However, this material comfort which Keller has worked to provide his family with the very best is of little consequence. His strong family unit is an illusion - his wife is ill, Chris is discontent and Larry has committed suicide as a result of his father's narrow-minded and reprehensible decision. It is through the letter from Larry that Keller realizes that he has not only killed one son but all of his sons, a theme which is reiterated by the title of the play. In conclusion, the American Dream has become more like an American Nightmare. Chris shows moral responsibility while his father Joe shows intense family responsibility.

A Broadway revival has been announced to begin previews on September 18, 2008 and officially open October 16, 2008 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. The limited engagement will run through January 11, 2009.

The production will star Tony Award winner John Lithgow, Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest, Tony Award nominee Patrick Wilson (actor), and Katie Holmes, who will be making her Broadway debut. The other featured actors are Becky Ann Baker, Christian Camargo, Jordan Gelber, Danielle Ferland, Damian Young, and Michael D'Addario. It will be directed by Simon McBurney.

The creative team consists of scenic and costume design by Tony Award nominee Tom Pye, lighting design by Paul Anderson, sound design by Christopher Shutt and Carolyn Downing, projection design by Finn Ross, and wig and hair design by Paul Huntley.

It drew about 300,000 attendees in 2007.
May 2 - 4 2008	The Beale Street Music Festival	Tom Lee Park 357 Riverside Drive Memphis Tennessee, USA	A three day music festival that has a mix of big-name stars while mixing local acts as well; Held during the first weekend of May in the city's Tom Lee Park at the foot of Beale Street, it is considered as the kick-off event of the entire Memphis in May celebration. It typically hosts 100,000 people for each of the first two nights of the event. The festival was added a year after Memphis in May was created. Its history can be traced back to the 1800s, when African-American musicians throughout the South would come to Beale Street and perform.
May 3 - 5 2008	Seoul World DJ Festival	Nanji campground Seoul South Korea	Seoul World DJ Festival started as one of Hi Festival's main programs in 2007, however due to its popularity, in 2008 this event will be held independently by paid admission. It will run all night long from 2pm May 3rd to 5am May 5th, for 3 consecutive days. All the popular cultures will come together through the DJ culture in this event.
May 21 - June 7 2008	The Bath International Music Festival	Bath Somerset England	Inaugurated in 1948, the festival has an illustrious artistic history and has long been a well-established event of national significance and international reputation. It takes place annually over 17 days in late May/early June, presenting a range of high quality events including orchestral, chamber and contemporary classical music, contemporary jazz and world music and now exciting new electronica. The programme takes place mainly in city venues and also includes free-to-the-public outdoor events.
May 30 - June 1 2008	Pinkpop Rock Festival	Megaland Park Landgraaf Netherlands	Pinkpop Festival is an annual rock festival held at Landgraaf, Netherlands. According to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the oldest annual festival in the world. PinkPop 2008 is set to be the biggest one to date, and there is an expected 60,000 attendees for the 3-day festival.
June 5 - 8 2008	CMA Music Festival	LP Field One Titans Way Nashville Tennessee, USA	The CMA Music Festival is a 4-day music festival centered around country music hosted each June by the Country Music Association (CMA) in Nashville, Tennessee. Begun in 1972 as Fan Fair, the event now draws over 400 artists and celebrities who hold autograph sessions and perform in one of the many concerts offered throughout the festival. Over 191,000 fans from around the world attended the 2007 CMA Music Festival.
June 20 - August 31 2008	Arena di Verona Festival	Arena di Verona Verona Italy	The Arena di Verona Festival (Verona Arena Festival) is a summer festival of opera, located in the city of Verona Italy. Opera performances are given in Arena di Verona, an ancient Roman amphitheatre. Performances traditionally begin at dusk and spectators on the stone seats of the arena bring small candles which are lit as darkness falls and the performances begin.

The Fête de la Musique began in France in 1982 and has since spread to more than 250 cities in over 100 countries.
June 26 - July 6 2008	Festival International de Jazz de Montréal	Montreal Quebec, Canada	The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (FIJM) also called the Jazz Fest, is the world’s largest jazz festival (2004 Guinness World Record). It is held annually in Montreal, Quebec during the summer season and gathers artists from around the world. It is typically attended by over 2 million people who are attracted by the electric atmosphere, diversity of shows and by the city itself. Many parts of the city's downtown core are closed to traffic for two weeks as outdoor shows are free to the public on many stages.

It has a diverse line-up ranging from music to comedy, to circus and theatre. The festival has been a regular fixture (with some breaks) since 1970.
June 27 - 29 2008	Tuska Open Air Metal Festival	Kaisaniemi park Helsinki Finland	Tuska Open Air Metal Festival, shortly Tuska (Finnish: pain, agony), is the largest music festival dedicated only to metal and related styles of music in the Nordic countries. It takes place in Kaisaniemi park in the middle of Helsinki, Finland. The history of Tuska began in 1998 and it has grown larger every year. Nowadays Tuska is the greatest metal-festival in the Nordic countries.

It is held annually in early July in Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva. Founded in 1967 by Claude Nobs, the Montreux Jazz Festival has become an unmissable event for music fans over the years, both in Switzerland and abroad.
July 5 - 12 2008	Latvian Nationwide Song and Dance Celebration	Mezaparks and Daugava Stadium Riga, Latvia	In 2008, three Baltic countries – Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia – will celebrate 90 years since their independence. Year 2008 will also be significant for Latvia as around 35,000 participants will gather in the capital Riga for the XXIV Song and XIV Dance Celebration.
July 11 - 13 2008	Rainforest World Music Festival	Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia	The Rainforest World Music Festival is an annual 3-day music festival celebrating the diversity of "world music" formerly known as ethnic music held in Kuching, the capital of the East Malaysian state of Sarawak. The aim of the festival has always been the preservation and conservation of ethnic music and traditional musical instruments.
July 11 - 13 2008	Oxegen 2008	Punchestown Racecourse County Kildare, Ireland	Oxegen is an annual rock music festival, held since 2004, sponsored by Heineken. It was previously called Witnness, which ran from 2000 and was sponsored by Guinness. It has an average attendance of around 80,000 a day.
July 16 - 19 2008	25th Stockholm Jazz Festival	Skeppsholmen Stockholm, Sweden	Stockholm Jazz Festival is one of the oldest festivals in Sweden, and also one of Stockholm’s biggest events. The festival is well known all over the world. This reputation is not just built upon the many brilliant musicians who have performed at the festival, but also on its unique and beautiful location – the island of Skeppsholmen.

It focuses in alternative pop rock and electronica and has other elements besides music like short films, theatre, dance, fashion and art.
July 25 - 27 2008	Fuji Rock Festival 2008	Naeba Ski Resort Yuzawa-machi Niigata, Japan	Fuji Rock Festival is an annual rock festival organized by Smash Japan, held in Naeba, Japan. The 3-day event features Japanese and international musicians performing on 7 different stages. In 2007, more than 127,000 people attended the festival. Among them 14,000 were campers who set up more than 7,000 tents.
July 25 - August 9 2008	Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival 2008	Churches in the downtown Ottawa Ontario, Canada	The Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival (Chamberfest) has been operating each summer since 1994. In that year Julian Armour started a small festival that was to become the largest chamber music festival in the world. The initial season had 22 concerts at various churches in Ottawa (Canada). Each year the number of concerts increased and by 2001 there were over 100 concerts in the two weeks of the festival.
July 26 - August 31 2008	Salzburg Festival	Salzburg, Austria	The Salzburg Festival is a prominent festival of music and drama. It is held each summer (for 5 weeks starting in late July) within the Austrian town of Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
July 31 - August 2 2008	Wacken Open Air	Wacken Schleswig-Holstein, Germany	Wacken Open Air is the largest exclusively metal music festival in the world. It takes place annually in the small town of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. With 60,000 festival visitors, and including personnel a total of over 72,000 attendees in 2007, it attracts metal music fans from around the world.
August 2 - 23 2008	International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival	Buxton, Derbyshire England, UK	The International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival is held every summer at the Opera House in Buxton, Derbyshire. It was established in 1994 by Ian Smith and his son Neil to enhance the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan.
August 12 - 18 2008	Sziget Festival 2008	Óbudai-sziget Danube Budapest, Hungary	The Sziget Festival is one of Europe's largest music and cultural festivals, held annually in August in Budapest, Hungary. The festival takes place on Óbudai-sziget ("Old-Buda Island"), an island on the Danube. The week-long festival has grown from a relatively low-profile 1993 student event to become one of the definitive European rock festivals by the late 1990's. Around 50% of visitors come from outside Hungary, with the largest group coming from Germany. Many also come from the UK, France and The Netherlands.

Kindermusik International, Inc. is a corporation headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina. Kindermusik is a method of early childhood education and is one of the most widely recognized music and movement programs for young children.

In the 1960's in West Germany, a group of teachers developed a program they called "Musikalische Früherziehung" (early musical instruction). The goal of the program was to teach children about music before they were old enough to begin formal music instruction. This program was eventually adapted for use in the United States and was renamed Kindermusik.

In the 1980's the Kindermusik program was rolled out to countries around the world. In 2002, the company's employees purchased the company from its 96 investors.
Today, there are over 5,000 licensed Kindermusik instructors teaching classes around the world.

Kindermusik offers classes structured around singing, games, movement to music, and listening activities for all age groups (and their parents) between birth and 7 years. The philosophy of Kindermusik education involves parents as the most important teachers and the home environment as the most important place to learn.

In 2003, Kindermusik International awarded a grant to two professors in Applied Developmental Psychology at George Mason University (Fairfax, VA). The professors conducted a study titled "The Role of Music in the Development of Self-Regulation in Preschool Children." The study concluded that children that were currently enrolled in Kindermusik exhibited more self-control than those not currently enrolled. Musical exposure seemed to increase self-control in the four year olds included in the study when compared to those with less music exposure.

Free Demo Days is a campaign in which more than 5,000 Kindermusik educators are invited to conduct free class demonstrations for families around the world.

	The National Folk Festival in the United States was first presented in St. Louis in 1934, it is a large-scale three-day outdoor event presented free to the public. The National Folk Festival is the oldest multi-cultural traditional arts celebration in the nation and the first event of national stature to put the arts of many nations, races and languages into the same event on an equal footing.
Some of the artists presented at the first festival are now legendary and the recordings and other documentation made possible by the National are precious. W.C. Handy's first performance on a desegregated stage was at the 1938 National. It was the first event of national stature to present the blues, Cajun music, a polka band, a Tex-Mex conjunto, a Sacred Harp ensemble, Peking opera, and others. This traveling festival has been held in 28 communities around the country. In many cases, after the National has moved on to other sites, the locality continues having a folk festival of its own. In 1990, 1991, and 1992, the National was held in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. In 1993, 1994, and 1995, the National was held in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1996, 1997, and 1998, the National was held in Dayton, Ohio. In 1999, 2000, and 2001, the National was held in East Lansing, Michigan. In 2002, 2003, and 2004, the National was held in Bangor, Maine. In 2005, 2006, and 2007, the National was held in Richmond, Virginia. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, the National will be held in Butte, Montana. Historic Uptown Butte (see photo) will be the site of the 70th, 71st and 72nd National Folk Festivals in 2008, 2009 and 2010. This is the first time the National Folk Festival has been held west of the Mississippi River in over 40 years, and its first time ever in Montana. Montana Traditions Each National Folk Festival host city celebrates its own regional traditions and heritage. Folklife demonstrations and exhibits feature Montana’s finest craftspeople and other tradition-bearers, and explore subjects ranging from silver working to saddle making, from blacksmithing to basket making, from cowboy poetry to quilting, instrument making, woodcarving, needlework, American Indian beadwork and much more. The 70th National Folk Festival was presented on Butte's historic Hill to a crowd of nearly 75,000 over three days (July 11-13, 2008) of perfect weather. The 71st National Folk Festival will be held from July 10 to 12, 2009 in Butte, Montana.

The Cosmos Rocks is an album from Queen + Paul Rodgers set to be released on September 15, 2008 in the EU and October 14, 2008 in North America. It will contain 13 new tracks written by Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers (see photo). This is the first album of new material from Queen since 1995's Made in Heaven, and is the first studio album with Paul Rodgers as the main singer.

Queen was an English rock band formed in 1970 in London by guitarist Brian May, lead vocalist Freddie Mercury, and drummer Roger Taylor. Bass guitarist John Deacon joined the following year, completing the band as it would remain until Mercury's death on November 24, 1991. It is uncertain how many albums the band has sold, but estimations range from 130 million to over 300 million albums worldwide.

The Queen + Paul Rodgers collaboration began in late 2004 when Queen was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.

August 11, 2008 City of Hope’s Concert for Hope

City of Hope National Medical Center is one of 39 NCI-designated Cancer Centers and is located in the city of Duarte, California. City of Hope comprises an ambulatory and in-patient cancer treatment center as well as a biomedical research facility known as the Beckman Research Institute and the City of Hope Graduate School of Biological Sciences.

The City of Hope's most famous patient is Anissa Ayala of California, who (as a teenager in the early 1990s) was diagnosed with acute leukemia, so her parents decided to expand their family by giving Anissa a baby sister, Marissa, and using Marissa's umbilical cord cells to stop the spread of the leukemia. The plan was successful and now Anissa is happily married.

Inspired by the guiding humanitarian principles of City of Hope, and motivated by the institution’s commitment to innovative medical research and quality patient care, a group of key industry executives founded the Music and Entertainment Industry chapter in 1973. In its 35 years of dedicated efforts, the chapter has grown to include all the major music labels such as Universal Music Group, Disney Music Group and Warner Bros. The industry has raised well over $69 million through benefits, promotions and partnerships to support ongoing programs at City of Hope.

2008 will mark the inaugural year for City of Hope’s Concert for Hope. Concert for Hope is an evening of once in a lifetime performances by chart topping Disney Music Group artists Miley Cyrus (see photo) and the Jonas Brothers with other performers to raise money and awareness for City of Hope. It will be held Sunday, September 14, at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

Miley Cyrus is an American teen actress, singer, and songwriter. Cyrus is known for starring as Miley Stewart/"Hannah Montana" in the television series Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel.

Cyrus' solo music career began with the release of her debut album, Meet Miley Cyrus on June 23, 2007. Her sophomore album, entitled Breakout was released on July 22, 2008, which is Miley's first album that does not involve the Hannah Montana franchise. Both albums debuted and peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200.

Jonas Brothers is an American boy band from Wyckoff, New Jersey made up of three brothers: Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas. They have released two albums - It's About Time in 2006, and Jonas Brothers in 2007, and will release A Little Bit Longer on August 12, 2008.

The Teen Choice Awards is an awards show presented annually by FOX. The program honors the year's biggest achievements in music, movies, sports, and television, as voted on by teens aged 13-19. The program usually features a high number of celebrities and musical performers. The winners are awarded with life size surfboards, fit to the summertime theme. The 2008 awards will air on August 4 (Monday). Christopher Maurice Brown is an American R&B and pop singer-songwriter, dancer, music video director and actor. In late 2005, he released his first studio album, Chris Brown, which spawned the Billboard Hot 100 number-one debut single, "Run It!" which was produced by Scott Storch and featured Juelz Santana. The album also produced two other top ten singles: "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" and "Say, Goodbye." Brown's second studio album, Exclusive was released worldwide in November 2007. It has spawned his second US number one hit, "Kiss Kiss" which was produced by T-Pain, who was also featured in the song . The third single, "With You", has reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has entered into the top ten in several countries across the world, becoming one of his most successful worldwide releases to date. "Forever" was released as the fifth single and so far has peaked at number 3 on Billboard Hot 100, becoming the album third top three hit in the US. The second single, "Kiss Kiss", was nominated for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards in the category for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. In support of his new album Exclusive, Brown embarked on his The Exclusive Holiday concert tour, visiting over thirty venues in United States. He started the tour in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 6, 2007 and concluded it on February 9, 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The documented footage was released on June 3, 2008 as the double disc of Exclusive: The Forever Edition. Brown performed "With You" at the BET Awards '08 on June 24, 2008. He was then joined by Ciara to dance with him to a snippet of the song "Take You Down". Chris Brown will be featuring along side Sean Garrett for Ludacris's hit single "What Them Girls Like" off Ludacris's album Theater of the Mind. 	Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) is a non-profit guitar organization founded in the year 1973. The company offers various services ranging from guitar lessons, to a guitar shop, competitions and events. It is devoted to furthering the knowledge of and interest in the guitar and its music.
GFA International Convention and Competition 2008 will be held from August 5-10, 2008 in San Francisco, California. The beautiful new facilities at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music will be used for the competition and the evening concerts, and the elegant and classic San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center (see photo), a few blocks away, will serve as the central location for most of the daytime activities. Both facilities are in the heart of beautiful downtown San Francisco. The six-day event is expected to draw 70 to 80 of the world's top instrument makers and publishers. All convention registrants are invited to audition to perform in a masterclass at the convention. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from a world-class artist, and make the most of your time at the convention.
