			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>While on one of my favorite question and answer sites, I saw a question for July 4<sup>th</sup> that really stuck out in my head. It was about a cooking contest this individual&#8217;s family does on July 4<sup>th</sup>. I thought, how fun? A July 4<sup>th</sup> cook-off between friends &amp; family would be an awesome party idea!</p>
<p>Imagine it, you call and invite a couple of your friends over for a July 4<sup>th</sup> party. You ask them to bring over a dish as it makes less work for you. But instead of just any ordinary dish, one that will be entered into a cook-off challenge that will be judged based on presentation, creativity and overall taste.  Everyone at the party can vote, whether they have entered the contest or not, and the top three can have a prize. Suggestions from other members on the site included something like a gift certificate or a chef apron with mention of the events title ‘Geller&#8217;s 5<sup>th</sup> Annual July 4<sup>th</sup> Cook-off&#8217; or something to that effect.</p>
<p><img border="2" vspace="3" align="left" width="152" src="http://i543.photobucket.com/albums/gg456/AptsForRent/GellerCup.jpg" hspace="3" alt="Geller Cup" height="226" />This competition actually reminds me of an episode of ‘Friends&#8217; where Monica and Ross were playing football on Thanksgiving for the ‘Geller Cup&#8217; which was really just a troll doll nailed to a piece of two by four (see photo).  However, hopefully your cook-off competition won&#8217;t become as brutal as the Monica, Ross face-off where Ross was sent to the hospital with a broken nose during &#8220;Geller Bowl VI&#8221;.</p>
<p>This idea is a new spin on a usually traditional gathering. This can really add some fun and make it a July 4<sup>th</sup> party to remember!</p>

<p align="justify"><strong>NORFOLK</strong><strong>, Va.</strong><strong>-(July 1, 2009)</strong>-Justin Spence got the call of a lifetime on Friday from ForRent.com<strong><sup>®</sup></strong>. He entered his video in the apartment listing service&#8217;s nationwide online video contest and after months of anticipation, found out he was the $10,000 grand prize winner.</p>
<p align="justify">Spence, who works for his family&#8217;s radiator manufacturing business, is also a part time videographer. Under the weather and in the process of moving, Friday&#8217;s call could not have come at a better time. When asked how he felt about winning the $10,000 grand prize, he yelled, &#8220;Holy Moly! I think I just got a better kick than any kind of medicine could give me!&#8221;</p>
<p align="justify"><strong>ForRent.com launched the &#8220;Ready2Move?&#8221; nationwide video contest on April 1. The contest asked </strong>apartment seekers to create a short video and tell ForRent.com why they were ready to move for a chance to win $10,000.</p>
<p align="justify">Spence did just that. He and his wife created and starred in the one-minute video &#8220;<a href="http://contest.forrent.com/main/video?creative_id=190">$1,200 a month and No Pool?</a>&#8221; The <img border="2" vspace="3" align="right" width="175" src="http://i543.photobucket.com/albums/gg456/AptsForRent/image-ContestWinningVideo.jpg" hspace="3" alt="Ready2Move Winning Video" height="175" />video depicts a conversation between Spence and a buddy, who is living lavishly in a Dallas apartment community, while Spence is desperately searching the classified listings for an apartment. The friend recommends ForRent.com as an apartment searching resource. When speaking about the benefit of the site&#8217;s functionality he boasts, &#8220;&#8230;you&#8217;re not gonna find that from some dude&#8217;s Web site in San Francisco.&#8221;</p>
<p align="justify">&#8220;This year&#8217;s contest was even more popular than last year. With the number of submissions more than doubling, the judges had a challenging time selecting the winners,&#8221; said Terry Slattery, president of For Rent Media Solutions.</p>

Patrick </strong>Freise, a rising senior at Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York, is $1,500 richer after being selected in a random drawing from 4,798 voters as the voting sweepstakes winner. With his earnings, Freise says he plans to buy his girlfriend a nice birthday gift.</p>
<p align="justify"><strong>Spence credits the popularity of his video to promoting it on social media Web sites like Facebook and Myspace, &#8220;</strong>I personally use Facebook and MySpace a lot. I&#8217;m a strong believer that social networking is the new media to advertise your products.&#8221;</p>
<p align="justify">ForRent.com worked with Vitrue, a social media company, to launch its second annual nationwide video contest. A panel of judges watched all 123 videos and selected the grand prize winner and the three finalists based on five criteria: creativity/originality, overall quality/appearance, relevance to the contest theme, promotion of the <a href="http://forrent.com/" title="http://ForRent.com">ForRent.com</a> and or <em>For Rent Magazine</em><strong><sup>®</sup></strong> brand, as well as the total number of user generated Internet votes received. Today&#8217;s consumer is very tech savvy and branded applications and mobile Web sites are a way to connect on their terms, are perfect for consumer engagement and provide rich data.</p>
<p>ForRent.com has launched a T-Mobile G1<sup><sup>TM</sup> </sup>(GPhone) application. The application is the latest addition to For Rent&#8217;s existing suite of mobile marketing products offered to apartment seekers and solidifies <a href="http://forrent.com/" title="http://ForRent.com">ForRent.com</a> as a leader in mobile marketing. In addition to the GPhone app, ForRent.com launched an iPhone<sup>® </sup>app in April which has received more than 23,000 downloads.</p>
<p><img border="2" vspace="3" align="left" width="175" src="http://i543.photobucket.com/albums/gg456/AptsForRent/image-gphone.jpg" hspace="3" alt="GPhone" height="398" />With ForRent.com&#8217;s free GPhone application, apartment seekers can browse through thousands of apartment listings nationwide. Users can also view apartment descriptions, videos, pictures, and floor plans, save their results, and contact the property. Consumers can use touchable map pins to click on a pin representing a property and go directly to the property&#8217;s page. The GPhone runs on the new Google Android operating system. Applications are only accessible through the GPhone phone, but can be previewed at the Android Market Web site.</p>
<p> &#8221;<strong>According to comScore Media Metrix, consumers downloaded 83 percent more mobile applications in March 2009 than in March 2008</strong>, says Terry Slattery, president of For Rent Media Solutions. &#8220;We understand how much mobile Web impacts our consumers&#8217; daily lives and will continue to explore opportunities with other mobile devices.&#8221;</p>
<p>While the number of consumers downloading mobile applications continues to grow, comScore shows that the <strong>preferred mode for accessing local content on a mobile device is through a mobile browser</strong>. In <strong>March 2008, 15.4 million mobile Web users accessed information via a mobile browser. By March 2009, that number jumped to 20.7 million. </strong>According to Omniture SiteCatalyst, an online business optimization company, the <strong>ForRent.com mobile site received more than 256,000 page views in May 2009. </strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This past March we posted an article titled ‘<a href="http://blog.forrent.com/property-managers-owners/marketing-to-the-hispanic-community">Marketing to Hispanics</a>&#8216; where we briefly mentioned mobile marketing. This month we would like to expand on that topic as we take a look at mobile Web sites, text messaging and mobile applications to reach the Hispanic community.</p>
<p>According to <a href="http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&amp;art_aid=98416">comScore m:metrics</a>, <strong>71% of Hispanics consume content on cell phones compared to the market average of 48%</strong>. Nielsen&#8217;s recent ‘Mobile Advertising Report&#8217; highlighted that <strong>Hispanic data users are more likely to recall seeing ads on mobile phones (41% compared with 30% of non-Hispanics) and more likely to have responded (22% vs. 13%). </strong>Therefore, mobile marketing to the Hispanic demographic is an opportunity to experience growth in this slowing economy.</p>
<p>Having mobile capabilities like text messaging is ideal for these consumers to find you.  Especially since many Hispanics will first experience the Internet via their cell phones because of limitations of Internet on a home computer. In addition to having your Web site available on mobile devices is the need to offer a Spanish translated site. Many Hispanic consumers are bilingual, but there is a sizeable market that still communicates primarily in Spanish. To effectively target these consumers, mobile initiatives should include Spanish language media as a key component of the mobile marketing mix.</p>
<p>According to Jose Villa, author of MediaPost&#8217;s blog, ‘<a href="http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&amp;art_aid=108679">10 Things You Should Know About U.S. Hispanics</a>&#8216;, <strong>&#8220;Hispanics are still a part of the honeymoon phase.&#8221;</strong>  Meaning, they are not burned out and therefore, are more likely to respond to advertisements from companies on their mobile devices.  In addition to mobile Web sites, text messaging and mobile applications are essential.</p>
<p>For Rent Media Solutions&#8217; text messaging product allows the Hispanic apartment seeker to send a text message with the property&#8217;s unique keyword to the short code 47368 (4RENT). The property keywords can be seen on leasing banners, yard signs at the property, and in <em>Apartamentos Para Rentar®</em> magazines. <p><strong>&#8220;Hispanics are connecting twice as fast as the general market (14% growth versus 7%) adding over a <img border="2" vspace="3" align="right" width="175" src="http://i543.photobucket.com/albums/gg456/AptsForRent/image-hispanicmobile.jpg" hspace="3" alt="Mobile Marketing to Hispanics" height="175" />million users per year. In 2008, 23 million Hispanics are online, about 52% of the Hispanic population.&#8221;</strong>1 Therefore, adding more technology to your business, i.e., mobile marketing, to attract the Hispanic community is very important to the survival of companies in this economy. This Hispanic market is the ideal renter because they are very brand loyal and they tend to stick with what with what is familiar to them. Just like any other consumer, they are looking for an experience.  Provide that for them and have a loyal, growing force supporting your brand. What more could you want?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Most people in the United States celebrate July 4<sup>th</sup> with barbeques and fun in the sun with friends &amp; family. But do you really know why the holiday is so important to our country? I read a terrific description on <a href="http://holidays.kaboose.com/july4-why.html">Kaboose</a> that really breaks it down for kids and adults to understand the significance of this Saturday. Take a look&#8230;</p>
<p>Imagine how you would feel if someone older than you (maybe an older sister or brother) kept telling you what to do all of the time and kept taking more and more of your allowance. That is how the colonists felt in the years leading up to 1776. Great Britain kept trying to make the colonists follow more rules and pay higher taxes. People started getting mad and began making plans to be able to make their own rules. They no longer wanted Great Britain to be able to tell them what to do, so they decided to tell Great Britain that they were becoming an independent country.</p>
<p>The Congress met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and they appointed a committee to write a formal document that would tell Great Britain that the Americans had decided to govern themselves. The committee asked Thomas Jefferson to write a draft of the document which was officially adopted the on July 4, 1776 after some changes were made. That is why it is called &#8220;Independence Day.&#8221; Congress ordered that all members must sign the Declaration of Independence and they all began signing the &#8220;official&#8221; copy on August 2, 1776.</p>
<p><img border="1" vspace="3" align="left" width="150" src="http://i543.photobucket.com/albums/gg456/AptsForRent/AmericanFlag.jpg" hspace="3" alt="American Flag" height="99" />As you may know, the Declaration of Independence is more than just a piece of paper. It is a symbol of our country&#8217;s independence and commitment to certain ideas. The signers of the Declaration of Independence wanted the citizens of the United States to be able to look at the document and immediately think of the goals we should always be working for, and about the people who have fought so hard to make these ideas possible. The people who signed the Declaration risked being hanged for treason by the leaders in Great Britain. They had to be very brave to sign something that would be considered a crime!</p>
<p>So every time we look at the Declaration of Independence, we should think about all of the effort and ideas that went into the document, and about the courage it took for these people to stand up for what they knew was right &#8212; independence!</p>
<p>On this Fourth of July, it is important for you to remember those people as well as the people who are still to this day fighting for our right to be independent; for our rights of freedom.  And that is largely done by our military countrymen. </p>

<p align="justify">The GPhone runs on the new Google Android operating system and applications are distributed in the Android Market, which opened to the public on October 22. Applications are only accessible through the GPhone phone, but can be previewed at the Android Market Web site.</p>
<p align="justify">&#8220;Mobile marketing is quickly spreading as a leading method of communication used to engage consumers,&#8221; says Terry Slattery, president of For Rent Media Solutions. &#8220;According to comScore Media Metrix, consumers downloaded 83 percent more mobile applications in March 2009 than in March 2008. While the perceived monetary gain may be tempting, it&#8217;s important to also look at the safety factors before signing a lease.You should first examine the neighborhood. You have every right to seek out information on whether or not there have been criminal activities. This includes asking the property manager or looking to local authorities. While also examining the neighborhood, you should make sure you visit the property multiples times. Plan on once during the day and at least once during the night. This will help you see how well light the area is and you&#8217;ll get a better sense of how safe you will feel when you return home from work each day.</p>
<p>Next, you should check the windows and doors. When you go to a model unit, chances are it&#8217;s going to be a better looking home. But check around the community when you visit. Do they tend to be in good shape? You need to also explore the locking mechanisms on the doors and windows. They should always ask when you move in, if the locks have been be changed from the previous owners. Always better to be cautious!</p>
<p>I would also recommend looking at the smoke detector.  This is the most valuable protection you can have-it will save your life! When you choose an apartment, be sure to check where it is located and when the batteries were replaced. Keep a schedule so you know when to change them out again.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you&#8217;re anything like me, the idea of Father&#8217;s Day is a daunting one. Not because I don&#8217;t enjoy celebrating my father, I do! He&#8217;s an unbelievable man who has taught me so much and I love him dearly. But, because I am always at a loss of what to get him. What to get a man that has loved me and cared for me all these years? What to get someone who has truly been there for me whenever I needed someone? Those are the questions that always creep up when Father&#8217;s Day rolls around and I rack my brain trying to think of something. </p>
<p>And of course, I want it to be something creative. Something I&#8217;ve not done before to really show him how much I appreciate him. Well after racking my brain for hours, I&#8217;ve come up with a list of five ingenious ideas (if I do say so myself).</p>
<ol>
<li>Go the sentimental route. A video montage or collage of photos with you and your father (or t<img border="3" vspace="2" align="right" width="600" src="http://i543.photobucket.com/albums/gg456/AptsForRent/Pairasailing.jpg" hspace="2" height="450" style="width: 275px; height: 211px" />he whole family) would really be something special for your father to receive. It&#8217;s something he can truly cherish for many years to come.</li>
<li>Make an afternoon date with him! If he would enjoy activities such as miniature golf, ice cream, lunch, then why not take him out? He deserves to have a bit of fun doing child-like things for a day!</li>
<li>Splurge for some hobby supplies. Every father has a hobby he enjoys! Whether it&#8217;s a sport like soccer, racing or maybe just fixing up cars, give him something that he would benefit from. Be careful though, you don&#8217;t want to overuse this tip as it could become predictable.</li>
<li>Bring him humor! There are a plethora of items that would fit the bill, books, trinkets, etc. In fact, I was on Barnes &amp; Nobles web site and saw quite a few books that poke fun at ‘Dadisms&#8217; or have cartoons to depict father-like situations. Guaranteed to make every dad grin, chuckle and laugh out loud.</li>
<li>And finally, time is all your father really wants. He enjoys spending time with you, his child. So be sure to spend good quality time, even if it&#8217;s not doing anything special, just to be with him.</li>
