Donna Dixxon, a long-time veteran of the catfighting wars, was in the midst of a apartment wrestling comeback, and wasn’t shy about displaying nudity in the match.

Nyla Jay Romero finds herself in the same shoes as a lot of women who have worked in professions dealing with nudity. Former adult video stars, strippers, and escorts face a problem every day, hiding their pasts as they move on with their lives, careers and relationships. For Nyla, though, this has been a quest of more than 15 years.

Nyla Jay Romero entered ACW as “the Baby Bull.” A thick, curvy girl, with big tits and a huge ass, she entered the promotion at just 18 years of age and was an immediate fan favorite. Placed into matches with the Wild Child Bryce Adams and the ACW champion Alex Del Monacco, Nyla held her own against the veteran before going down in defeat. She had a strong power game, with an incredible ability to apply her leverage and strong center of gravity. She was improving by leaps and bounds and headed up in the rankings when she seemed to vanish off of the face of the Earth.

“My mother found out what I was doing, the catfighting thing. Some dude that I wouldn’t go out with bought a tape of one of my matches and gave it to my mother, claiming he was worried about me. Well what do you think a mother is going to do when she sees her daughter naked on a video tape. She totally freaked, totally flipped out, had to go to the emergency room because they thought she was having a heart attack. So then everyone in the family knows and was cursing me out, turning their backs on me, casting me out of the family. It was horrible. So I quit ACW just to get them off of my back. So that was it. Career over… life over,” Nyla related on an interview on a local cable access channel interview in Chicago.

So she walked away from her catfighting career, looking to leave it behind, but it seemed to follow her everywhere.

“I went to college and moved into the dorm. Within two weeks, somebody found a copy of one of the tapes and passed it around. When you have a big ass and big tits and are halfway cute, every guy already wants to fuck you and every chick hates the way you look. That’s hard enough. Now I got all of these dudes thinking I must be easy, posing nude and all. And the bitches were just brutal. I dropped out of school two weeks later. And my mother wouldn’t let up, telling me I had ruined my future.”

Romero’s thick and curvy look helped her to stand out and this caused her to remain on the minds of many catfight fans over the years, long after her wrestling expiration date was up. For many this would be a financial windfall, but for Nyla, it has become an anchor around her neck. “I’ve tried to get away from ACW. It’s like Al Pacino said ‘Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!’ It’s been how long and everywhere I go people whisper behind my back. It has cost me to lose jobs, affected my relationships… it’s been a nightmare,” she says.

Romero’s comments are seen by many as a cautionary tale for those considering a life in the catfighting business. For others, however, the spectacle and mass appeal that apartment wrestling success can bring to a young star can be seen as a push toward stardom, intoxicating and exhilarating. Mia Bankz, for instance, laughed at Nyla’s concerns. “She was a big girl. If she couldn’t handle the heat, she shouldn’t have walked into the kitchen. She was given a great opportunity, and she ran away because Mommy didn’t like it. Fuck her… She’s weak. She didn’t deserve to be heer. Like I said, Fuck her.”

Dominique LeMonde

LeMonde has been living in Europe for the last fifteen years. After her loss to 00Heaven, a despondent LeMonde went into seclusion in Paris, France. Two years later, she surprised her fans as she began touring Europe under the gimmick “the French Maid.” She was a big hit and ACW called her to come back to the United States for another run at the ACW title. With new championship competitors Daniella Cartier and Diane Hunter ruling the sport, LeMonde chose to stay in Europe and hit paydirt when she was cast in her own syndicated series as “The French Maid.”

After the series was cancelled, Dominique took a few years off to travel. She was called by various promotions to make appearances but refused, appearing to want to hide from her catfighting past. Eventually, though, as her bank accounts began to shrink, she took part in private challenge matches overseas. After twenty years in the sport, she finally decided to hang up her thong and retire from apartment wrestling.

She still lives in France and has apparently settled down with French actor Francois Demir. She declined any comment regarding this article.

The hype surrounding the match would exceed anything in the last twenty years of apartment wrestling.

As the two readied for the match, it became apparent that Heaven might have a real battle on her hands. Cartier outweighed the champion by 10 pounds and stood 5 inches taller. Heaven was relaxed, however, as her years of experience had instilled a confidence within her that was obvious to all.

The action started quickly as Cartier charged forward. Heaven expected her aggressiveness, however, and lowered her shoulder and took the taller girl off of her feet. She immediately pounced on Daniella and attempted a guillotine choke-hold, trying to end the match quickly. Cartier was stunned by the turn of events and desperately tried to regroup.

Getting her thoughts together, she struggled to crawl away. Heaven, seeing her opponent panic, wanted to do whatever she could to keep her from thinking clearly. She reached out and smacked Daniella as hard as she could on her exposed buttocks.

Rather than disorient her, the smack seemed to awaken Daniella. Twirling around the champion, Cartier applied a choke-hold of her own. Heaven reached up trying to loosen the grip, but Daniella stood firm, refusing to relinquish her advantage. Heaven recognized her opponents strength and saw that her efforts to escape were in vain.

With a quickness that surprised Cartier, Heaven shifted her weight and flipped Cartier onto her head. It happened so fast that Daniella did not have the opportunity to extend her hands to break her fall and landed with a nasty thud on her head. Seeing this, Heaven staggered back trying to catch her breath and recover from the choke-hold. Thinking Cartier would be stunned for a few minutes, she took her eyes off of her for a few seconds.

Cartier had other ideas. She rushed forward and scooped up the distracted champion and tried to slam her to the ground. Remarkably, Heaven stayed poised and locked her legs around Daniella’s shoulder, then slid them down to apply an unbelievable arm bar while she was being hoisted in mid-air. Howling in pain, Cartier was forced to the ground.

Heaven grabbed Cartier weakened arm and slowly stepped over, spreading Daniella’s arms and applying pressure to her sore elbow. Already in pain, Cartier screamed as Heaven began twisting her body, causing the pain to shoot from Daniella’s elbow up into her shoulder.

Now in full control, Heaven tried to wear her opponent down. Pushing Daniella forward, Heaven mounted her lower back, crossing Cartier’s arms and pulling them backwards. As Daniella again screamed in pain, it seemed to urge Heaven on and she leaned backwards, stretching her sweat-soaked body and nearly strangling her opponent.

Suddenly, as she pulled with all her strength, Daniella’s hands slipped free and Heaven tumbled backwards. Daniella lunged to take advantage of her off-balance foe but her arms were almost useless. She tried, therefore, to apply a scissors lock hold around Heaven’s mid-section but the champion expertly bridged out, somersaulting backwards onto her feet.

Tired, sweating and breathing hard, the two girls circled each other cautiously. Heaven had not expected such competition from Cartier. She had tried again and again to force her to tap out and had tried to secure a pinfall but Cartier refused to give up.

Now as they circled each other, Daniella looked down upon Heaven with an excited confidence, feeling that she could outlast the champion. That look caused something to stir with Heaven, however, a venomous anger of slowly erupting frustration. As the two girls met for a fingerlock test of strength, Heaven unleashed a furious stomp of her foot, crushing down on Daniella’s instep and sending her to the ground in a heap.

With the quickness of a mongoose, she sprung forward onto her fallen foe. Twisting around, she rolled Daniella up for the pinfall, grabbing a handful of her thong, just for good measure.

Though technically a foul, the foot stomp was not enough to disqualify Heaven and she walked away with her title belt once again. An angry Cartier protested violently but realized that while she may have had the edge on the champion, Heaven was the dirtiest player in the game. For her, another day would come but she knew the bad taste in her mouth could only be cleansed with a rematch.

So one must wonder. Why was her career in ACW so short?

Gia was very young when she started with ACW. She wasn’t necessarily inexperienced, but it was early in her career and before she found her style and hit her stride. In her first three months she was in constant training with her friend Kristy Broussard and title contender Diane Hunter who also worked as a trainer for the promotion. Primo was put through the paces by some of the toughest, grittiest veterans in the business, so while she was gaining a ton of experience, she wasn’t racking up a bunch of wins and experienced a period of time where she felt her career was going nowhere.

She did have a surge of optimism after big wins over Jenna Johnson, Donna Dixxon and Dixie Monroe, however, and was stoked to find out that she would be a part of the tapings for the first ACW DVD, “The Motor City Posse Invasion.” She was especially excited because she would be matched up against her friend and training partner, Kristy Broussard. The two knew each other so well, Primo knew they would have a great match.

Except it didn’t happen that way. Broussard absolutely destroyed the blonde wrestler. She threw her to the ground and put her into hold after hold, roughly over-matching Gia in front of the whole management team. Broussard won in two straight falls and a sobbing Primo ran from the tapings to the dressing room.

That quickly Gia Primo was done with ACW. She was terribly embarrassed by her poor showing and although ACW officials were stil high on her, she felt like she couldn’t hold her head up in front of the rest of the roster. She was also very angry at Broussard, feeling that the bigger girl had taken some liberties with her in order to impress management.

After leaving ACW, Gia began training in various martial arts and began travelling across the United States, taking private matches and working the independent scene. As she gained more skills, her popularity grew and grew and within three years, she was one of the biggest names on the international scene.

Gia Primo had a legendary career and it is a shame that she wasn’t able to showcase her greatness for ACW fans.

Looner seemed to be headed to the top before her lifestyle as a party girl caught up with her. Before she hit rock bottom, she lost the Inter-Condominium belt and a modeling gig co-sponsored by ACW. For Capone, the fall was even harder. After lagging behind the other girls in her rookie class, she had made enormous strides, defeating former champion Alex Del Monacco who was attempting a comeback and then running off a 22-match winning streak. Her partying ways, however, made Galas look like a girl scout. Between booze and bad boys, Capone burned the candle at both ends, and then in the middle. For both  girls, this was a crucial match.

Jen started things off, running her mouth, as is her habit. Trash talking is her pre-match warm-up, but Galas put a quick end to it with a sharp slap to the face. Although she looks as sweet as a lamb, Looner has a severe mean streak in her and in this instance she didn’t have time for any bullshit. She followed up the slap with a knee to the gut and then a belly punch, taking Capone down to the ground. She quickly mounted the latina and tried for a quick three count, but lost her balance as Jen wriggled under her.

Jen was on her feet in a second, keeping the blonde down while smashing Galas’ face into her crotch. Galas tried to regain her feet but Jen kept shifting her balance and maintained her leverage. Galas tried to hammer-fist Jen in her toes but missed, hurting her own wrist. While she had complete control, Jen wasn’t getting anywhere, so she dragged Looner to the bed and pitched her onto it.

As quick as a hiccup, Galas rolled across the bed and pushed off of the wall and lunged at Jen, hitting her with a spear right in the midsection. Capone collapsed in a heap but before she could curl up in a ball, Galas pushed onto her stomach and pounced on her like a leopard. Sitting on her in reverse cowgirl, she sat back, pressing her meaty ass down against Capone’s neck. Jen laughed at first, but then screamed in pain. Unable to push the larger Galas off, Jen could only weakly reach back at her.

With her opponent in this precarious situation, Galas began punching Jen in her legs and ass and then began twisting her ankle, the latina shrieking in pain. Now it was Galas with the insults, laughing at Jen for not have a firmer ass she spanked her repeatedly. Each loud crack of her hand had Jen howling in pain. Not letting up, Galas grabbed Jen’s bikini bottoms and yanked them viciously, the wedgie cutting into Capone’s crotch.

With a desperate feat of strength, Jen pushed upwards and toppled the blonde onto her back. The two glared at one another, both breathing heavily. Jen was in considerable pain from her ass to her feet and viewed her opponent warily. Galas, though in total control just moments ago, now seemed like she may have “punched herself out.”

Finally the two broke into a test of strength. Jen tried to push Galas off of the bed while Galas tried for a pinfall. Jen spun back around, pushing Galas flat onto her stomach. She now reached and decided to rip the blonde’s bikini off.

Now Jen could taste blood and went for it. She jumped on Galas back, but Galas bucked her off. Undeterred, Jen got back in the saddle until she successfully had her back.

Now Jen returned the favor, laying heavy-handed slaps to the back of Galas’ head and neck. Galas raised her hands, trying to fend off the swipes and Jen moved in for the kill, turning Galas’ over and lunging forward and smothering Looner with her natural breasts. Laughing and happy with having turned the tables, Capone taunted her opponent, demanding the she submit… But she laughed to soon.

When Dixie Monroe entered Apartment Championship Wrestling, she had one thing in mind – STARDOM.

The redhead came in in the same rookie class as Malaysia and Tasha Romero. While many considered it a weak rookie class, there was something about Dixie that stood out. She was never considered the best wrestler, nor the prettiest girl, nor did she possess the best body. What she had was a willingness to do what it took to get what she wanted and to get where she wanted. That willingness included stabbing other competitors in the back, lying about her experience and sleeping her way to the top.

Monroe looks at things differently these days. She now admits lying on her application to the promotion about her background in wrestling. She had claimed to have had an extensive amateur wrestling background in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, presenting photocopies of newspaper articles detailing her success. “They were made up,” she now admits. “I just had a friend type them up and made copies.” She was assigned to train under Masahiro X, then a trainer with the promotion. Masahiro saw immediately that she was very limited as a wrestler and called her on it. Her response? “I fucked him!”  Dixie claims that she began a sexual affair with Masahiro for the next two years, in return for him keeping her on the ACW roster and providing her extensive training.

She was kept on the roster and given an opportunity, wrestling many of the top players in the game… and she lost 21 straight matches. Eventually she did find some success, eking out victories over Amber Mayfield and Paulina Persenko. Still, her progress was not sufficient and many in upper management wanted her gone. Masahiro went to at for her though and she was placed in a Loser Leaves ACW match against Tasha Romero. Many within the promotion believe that Romero showed up for the match under the influence of something as she just kept giggling. Dixie defeated her easily and ket her spot in the promotion.

“There was a lot of transition within the promotion at that time,” recalls ACW founder Tanako X. Dixie was lucky to keep her spot while one was open within the roster. She began to make some improvements and seemed dedicated to the sport, training with some of the stalwarts like Diane Hunter. She pissed a lot of people off, though, showing up to matches in what came to be her trademark “Rebel Bikini.” “I hated that bitch,” recalls Daniella Cartier. “She would wear that shit and then put on this act like she was too dumb to understand why it was offensive. That’s why she would get an extra ass-kicking from me.

It was in her notorious bikini that Dixie fought her biggest match. She took on Malaysia, a big legged, bit bootied brunette who was racking up wins with a power game. Malaysia was considered a growing force within the promotion and ACW got behind her with a significant push. Surprisingly, though, Monroe put on her best performance and dominated the larger girl, biting, clawing and scratching her way to a victory. Suddenly, it looked like the southern girl had gained some traction.

That’s when the wheels came off of the cart. Dixie started asking some of the other girl about getting into the adult film industry. Her inquiries mad there way to Tanako X who told her to desist with her new pursuit or she would be terminated. Instead, she sought cover behind Masahiro, bringing in her friend Tasha to put on a girl-girl fantasy show for him. When photos of the sex-show made their way across the locker room, Tanako fired Dixie immediately and suspended Masahiro for six months.

Dixie used the controversy to get an interview with a small porn company in the suburbs of Chicago but she was just used for small custom video shoots and soon grew tired of getting jerked around. She asked for a meeting with Tanako X and asked him to come to her hotel room an hour early, claiming there was an emergency. When X entered the room her found Monroe naked waiting for him. The two engaged in a tryst and the whole thing was filmed on a hidden camera. Monroe planned to blackmail the owner of the promotion into putting her back on the roster. X refused and that was her last involvement with the promotion.

That is until Taylor Wilson got her hands on the footage and used it as part of her takedown attempt to push him out of the promotion. This put a black mark on X and the promotion that it took years to remove. For Monroe, it was a professional death knell as she was turned away by most other catfight companies in the country.

She sought fame and fortune, from the world of catfighting to Hollywood, but her shortcuts sent her right back to Savannah, Georgia where she now works in a meat packing company. “Would I do it again?” she asks. “Yeah, I’d probably do it just the same.”

One way in which ACW has found itself in trouble is in the area of personal conduct, both on behalf of the talent roster and members of management. Countless numbers of wrestlers had to be bailed out of encounters with law enforcement over alcohol and drug issues, with a few (whom we shall not name) actually going to prison. These incidents were covered up from the media, so as to not tarnish the ACW brand.

One thing that did not get covered up, however, were the allegations of sexual harassment on the part of ACW management, and in particular, on the part of ACW Chairman and Founder Tanako X. X had long been known as a ladies man, despite the secrecy surrounding his persona. This all changed during a contract dispute with then ACW champion 00Heaven. She alleged that Tanako had been harassing her in a pay to play type of arrangement. While she would not say that she received the title belt for engaging in sex with X, she did say that the two had been intimate and that he continued to push the relationship, even after she begged off. The issue was dismissed a month later when the two parties reached an agreement on a new contract, with 00Heaven backpedaling her allegations, saying that she and X were just friends and business associates. The damage was done, however, as the tabloid press jumped onto the juicy rumors like a dog with a steak. What came next was worse than anyone could have imagined, and her name was Taylor Wilson.

Taylor Wilson was an oddity and a spectacle in the world of apartment wrestling. At 6’ 1” and around 175 lbs., she was bigger and stronger than anyone else in the promotion. That she could have been the ACW Champion was only a foregone conclusion. Instead, the question was “Who Could Beat Her?” The answer was herself. Wilson was the ultimate party girl who put in almost no training. She lived as wild of a lifestyle as they come and was not shy about her sexual appetite. As she admitted, she set her sights onto Tanako X and planned for a long-term game plan for success and money. The two began a relationship that was only lightly disguised.

By her own admission, she enticed X into taping the sexual sessions in order to watch them later. X maintains that he agreed to use one camera for their dalliances and claimed that when she was alone in his house while he was on a European tour, that she had the whole house wired for video and sound, outfitted with tiny cameras that recorded the information to a small box in the basement. While she never acknowledged doing so, Wilson has also never denied it. What is known is that Wilson approached the management team with a fistful of tapes showing X engaged in sexual activity with 00Heaven, Dixie Monroe, Candy Sommers and Amber Mayfield. Acting as a woman scorned, she demanded the ACW title belt in return for not turning the tapes over to the press. After numerous meetings with her lawyers and management, X flat out refused to knuckle under to her blackmail scheme.

Wilson carried out her threat and released the tapes to a small, independent Chicago newspaper, which featured the story on its front page. Almost immediately it grabbed national attention. Women’s groups stepped forward demanding investigations of the promotions and local politicians expressed their outrage. Numerous women stepped forward alleging that they were harassed by X and other members of the management team and Monroe and Sommers filed lawsuits against X for taping them. Taking advantage of the situation, Tanako’s nephew, and current ACW President, Masahiro X, convinced his uncle to step down temporarily. When he did so, Masahiro ousted him from the company, convincing shareholders that Tanako had to go. Just when it looked like the ACW Founder was going to lose everything, someone stepped forward who changed the whole scenario around. Jimmy Lee Thompson owned his owner security company, and filed suit against the promotion claiming that he hadn’t been paid for the work he had done on behalf of ACW. The work involved? The wiring of Tanako’s house. When asked whom had hired him, he replied “the big blonde.” He confirmed that it had been Taylor Wilson whom had hired him. “It was definitely her,” he later said in a deposition. “How many giant blondes do you have calling you in and showing you where she wanted each camera in each room while wearing a skimpy bikini. That’s a visual you can’t get out of your head.” Wilson, he said, sealed the deal by having sex with him in Tanako’s bedroom, filming it with the original camera. “Then, after I had installed everything, she blackmailed me with a tape of us having sex. How was I going to explain away a tape of me fucking this giant blonde up the ass to my wife?” Thompson dropped the matter for several months, until he and his wife separated. With his lawsuit and his testimony, the charges, allegations and lawsuits against Tanako were dropped and he resumed his duties with ACW. Surprisingly, though, no charges were brought against Wilson for filing false claims. Tanako would later tell an associate, “her ass has changed more minds than a bottle of scotch.”

Still, a lot of damage had been done, both to Tanako’s and ACW’s reputation. The door had been opened to his personal life and his risky behavior, which played right into the hands of his rivals.
