I once took a vocational test, a proper one, with written exams and real test conditions etc. Paid good money for it too. It was because I didn’t really know what I should do for a career when I was leaving school, and which degree, if any, I should go for. I mean, I knew what I wanted to do, but, the realist part of me knew I should think about a real career. So when I finally got my results back and it turns out there was about 20 careers I’d be ideally suited for. Apparently I’m an all rounder. To give an example, two suggested career paths were accountancy or forensic science. I mean, what the hell!? How is that supposed to help. So I thought, screw it, I’ll do a philosophy degree instead…

PS – kept my promise

I have a terrible memory. What makes it worse it that I often have mundane dreams. So mundane that there’s no real reason to not believe that they didn’t happen. I’ll dream about posting a letter, and then, a few weeks later I’ll find the letter in my desk. It is different from just forgetting to mail it because I’ve convinced myself that I’ve mailed it. I get confused; I have a distinct memory or putting it in the letterbox. Eventually I just have to chalk it up to either it just being a dream, or me going insane…

I come before you with humblest apologies. I promised a bonus strip last Friday which was never posted. I caught up with a friend over the weekend and, well, lots of vodka was consumed and no comic was drawn. I drew one late Sunday night / Monday morning, but wasn’t happy with the art. Sooooo I spent a lot longer, completely changing the way I draw the characters. The comic took a lot longer than other, but I think it looks better. The bonus comic will come tomorrow, I PROMISE.

A while ago I sprained my ankle. Really badly. So bad it was agony to walk on for a few days. I fell off a wall. I only have myself to blame since I was a wee bit drunk at the time. But, the best thing was that the doctors gave me some super drugs. Sure they only actually got rid of the pain for 10 minutes, but boy those ten minutes were great.

Bonus comic comes tomorrow.

And that’s exactly how it happened. Honest.

Okay, maybe not, but the truth is considerably less exciting. I hit my head on a door frame. And I mean really hit it. So much so I actually knocked myself out for a few seconds, I have no recollection of falling to the floor, but sure enough I did. And oh the blood. There was lots. And it didn’t stop bleeding for HOURS. Pretty freaky stuff.
But yeah, that was last week. Due to continuing migraines I decided to avoid the computer. Including drawing the comic. And those that follow it, far too cute failed to update too. But I’ve managed to get 5 far too cute strips up for each I missed, and there’ll be an extra strip for Apathetic Rant this week.

Everyday. Sometimes twice a day. It’s such a waste of time. If I didn’t look a complete fool with even the slightest amount of facial hair I just wouldn’t bother.

Friday’s update is lost to us. I had an awesome idea, but, then, it wasn’t so awesome once I’d drawn it. The site was meant to auto update Monday, but that never happened. Just as well, Monday’s comic sucked too. Super busy at the moment, with a super doper new project. Yes, another one. I’ll update with details soon.

And thanks to the people emailing me about the broken site. I have no idea why it’s like that, I’ll try to get it fixed asap. Just not today. Probably not tomorrow. But, soon…

So I was looking at the dates of some old comics when I noticed something crazy. Apathetic Rant is over a year old. I missed the one year anniversary. I feel like a kid who was looking forward to Christmas day only to wake up too late. All the presents are gone and the big diner has been eaten. Opps. Oh well.

I figured since it’s been a year I’d do something a bit different. I kind of like how this came out. I’m liking the washed out colours, maybe it’s something I’ll play around with a bit more. I’ve been meaning to improve the art on Apathetic Rant for a while, but I’ve been busy with other stuff. Which also explains the missing Tuesday update. By the magic of the internets it has been transformed into a Friday update. Coo huh? Well, I try. See you tomorrow for the super magic, making up for missed update, comic.

I don’t get the American measurements? Honestly, the idea of measuring both liquids and solids in cups seems absurd, and the whole ounce vs fluid ounce doesn’t make it much clearer to me either. Apparently they tried to implement the metric system a while back, but nobody either wanted it, or could understand it. But it’s so simple?!

Anyway, after a long time trying to find a real recipe for American Cookies, not a recipe by a non American mind you, I was delighted to find out that there is a conversion for cups. Karissa and Spenser kindly informed me that you convert 1 cup to roughly 8oz and one ounce is roughly 28 grams, therefore, 1 cup is 224 grams.

Using cups to measure out weights doesn’t seem a very good idea to me, my only guess is that American recipes that use cups don’t measure out weight, but rather volume. Coming from the Uk, where only fluids are measured in volume this seems very bizarre. And, to make things even weirder, through more research I have found that a UK fluid ounce is different to a US fluid ounce! ARGH. Use the metric system already?!

Sorry for the lateness of the comic, it’s up Friday night because I was busy Thursday and quite ill today. I’d explain in further details, but, I think it’s suffice to say that it’s the kind of ill that’s “messy”…

I wish my money problems were due to over spending. I can’t really remember the last time I went out, or actually bought anything major. I guess I bought a suit, but that was for job interviews and doesn’t really count, not in my book. Maybe I should whore the comic out and set up a cafepress store? Oh I would have so much fun with the T Shirt designs, but I can’t imagine anyone but me wearing them, which sort of defeats the point? Heh, oh well. Slightly late comic today, I toyed with the idea of having three comics this week, but when I sat down to draw on Monday night I couldn’t think of ANYTHING. Complete writers block. Maybe there’ll be a third comic up later this week. WHO KNOWS?!

Ok, so, I spend a lot of time on the internet. A LOT of time. So I would consider myself pretty well versed in internet trends and anomalies. And I can say without a doubt in my mind that a sure fire way to get traffic is kittens. Seriously. That’s all you need. Some pictures of kittens on a static html page can outperform a well written well presented blog post any day of the week. And it works on a simple principle. The internet is largely populated by idiots. There are millions of idiots on the internet, and those of you who have read Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men will know that idiots love little fluffy animals. Now, I’m not saying that everyone who likes fluffy animals is an idiot, but that there are enough idiots out there who do to make putting pictures of them on your website a good traffic boosting idea.

Ok, so Americans are crazy. No offence guys, but what the hell? The worst we have is Morris dancing, and yeah, it’s pretty bad, but only a few of us do it, the majority of us recognise it as being insane. But it seems that almost all of America goes flag crazy at the beginning of July.
