As governments begin to open up their data sets for public use, the stage is set for citizen-led Innovation.

Do you have an idea to leverage government data for the public good? If so, we want to hear it! We're asking Canadians: If government data were openly available, what web or mobile application would you want built?

No technical experience necessary (although if you've got it, flaunt it!) - all we're looking for is great ideas for ways that government data could be put to good use. If you don't have an idea of your own you can collaborate with others or vote up your favourite ideas.

This challenge springs from recent work Brainmaven has been doing with the Stratford Institute looking at provincial and territorial eGovernment and Open Government initiatives. You can access both reports through the challenge website (http://egov.brainmaven.com) if you are interested in learning more.

After the challenge closes on June 8, 2012, top voted ideas will be presented to the federal government's Advisory Committee on Open Government.

The Otesha Project is seeking adventurous individuals to spin up some action around Canada.

Join a team of dedicated volunteers that will cycle from community to community to deliver hands on, interactive alternative education and theatre that engages and empowers youth on issues of environmental sustainability and social justice.

Expect to brave the elements, push your limits, experience communal living, and maybe spontaneously craft up superhero costumes to bike around in. Explore issues like renewable energy on Canada’s stunning east coast, watershed sustainability along the shores of the Great Lakes, and food security in the fertile fields of Ontario.

Your team will range from engineers to educators, activists to artists, students to social workers. Together you will gain valuable experience in facilitation and leadership skills, public speaking, alternative education, bike touring, camping, working with youth, and rocking stunning spandex shorts.

Reporting to the Website & Technology Coordinator, the Website Intern will assist with the building of a new website. This will involve working to implement the design and specifications in WordPress, and to import content and databases into the site. The intern will also assist with the maintenance of Apathy is Boring’s websites apathyisboring.com and citizenfactory.com, which will involve working with Ruby on Rails. The intern is also expected to represent Apathy is Boring at various events and information booths.

the {warehouse} magazine is a provocative lifestyles publication that reflects urban street culture. The up and coming magazine is based out of Montreal and is available in print, online and in digital edition. We cover topics dedicated to social responsibility and showcase content that is witty, insightful, playful and always relevant.

We are currently looking for an outgoing, organized and dynamic intern who is familiar with various social networking sites and is willing to commit approximately 15 hours a week to the magazine. Be The One...to Stop Violence Against Women and Girls is a project for youth aged 16-24. Young men and young women are invited to attend focus groups in Hamilton to share their thoughts about gender-based violence, then they're supported to engage in awareness campaigns to bring their message to the Hamilton communtiy.

If you live/work/eat/sleep/take a bus through/go to school in Hamilton, Ontario, you are invited to complete our online survey to share your thoughts about violence against women and girls. It will take approximately 10 minutes and your responses are anonymous.

The Do Something Awards (formerly the BR!CK Awards) identifies exceptional young social entrepreneurs, activists, and community leaders who have a significant social impact. The Do Something Award nominees and winners are the pivotal "do-ers" in their fields and causes. For this year's awards five nominees will be selected and rewarded with a $10,000 community grant, participation in the second Do Something Awards TV show on VH1, media coverage, and continued support from DoSomething.org. Of those five nominees, one will be selected to win the Grand Prize, a $100,000 grant, which will be announced during the broadcast.
