Following the release of his fifth full-length album Life & Livin’ It two weeks ago, Brooklyn’s Sinkane arrives to San Francisco this Friday. Sinkane (Ahmed Gallab) begins an international tour that will run through the summer with an early date at the Independent in San Francisco. Full tour dates are below.

Sinkane’s new Life & Livin’ It finds Gallab continuing to experiment with and forge together a number of groove-oriented genres. Fans of 2014’s Mean Love will be pleased to find another colorful canvas of Afrobeat, funk guitars, disco rhythms and Gallab’s voice at the helm. San Francisco’s own Bathing opens.

Last year, we featured some outstanding tracks from LA newcomer NoMBe. After a quiet period, NoMBe is back with new single “Wait”. The track is the first off his new album which will be released over the next ten months. Stream NoMBe “Wait” and read a statement about the album below:

“I wouldn’t know a better way to describe the relationships I’ve built with women throughout my life. Built, but also, at times, selfishly torn down and desperately tried to rebuild. Safe to say, love can make you crazy, like a jukebox that gets stuck on that one note you didn’t want to hear again, but is now being drilled right into your head.

On the other hand, love is the lifeblood that flows through our civilization and therefore it is no wonder the majority of all modern era songs perpetually aim to reinterpret this subject.

So finally, after a year hiatus from releasing music, in which I’ve spent every waking second dedicated to this body of work, I couldn’t be more proud to share its first iteration “Wait” with you. This song spawns a new chapter for me and marks the release of my debut album, They Might’ve Even Loved Me, a journey of love, sex, heartbreak & euphoria.

 Over the next 10 months I’m giving you my entire album one story at a time. This is a promise from me to you. I gave my all to this and hope it brings you as much pleasure listening as it has given me creating!

Lightning in a Bottle, or LIB as returning family call it, is a long standing transformational festival in California. Founded by the DoLaB, a Los Angeles based promotion company, LIB is coming into its 17th year this May. The now five-day festival (for early arrival pass holders) takes place every year on Memorial Day weekend, May 24 – 29, 2017, at the San Antonio Reservoir Recreation Area in Bradley, California.

Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, January 24th at 10 AM PST for $280 before fees. While recent years have sold out generally tickets are available up till the month of the event. The 2017 lineup was announced Monday, January 23rd, including Bassnectar, Bonobo, Rufus du Sol, Troyboi, Paper Diamond, Perfect Stranger, Richie Hawtin, Nic Fanciulli, Hernan Cattaneo, Too Many Zooz, Elephant Revival, The California Honeydrops, and many, many other talented artists.

There are 4 main stages scattered throughout the festival grounds. The main stage, the Lightning Stage, hosts larger productions and live acts, as well as yoga around 12 noon each day. The Thunder Stage, designed for bass heavy artists, is the spot for any attendee who wants to get down. The Grand Artique hosts additional acts ranging from talent shows to intimate music acts, as well as Frontierville, an interactive gathering place to meet new friends, swap festival gear, and exchange jokes.

The last stage, distinct and unique to Lightning in a Bottle, is the techno and house centric Woogie Stage. Previous years this stage was a treehouse set inside an ancient oak tree, with bass blasting Puregroove speakers set across the platform and surrounding spaces. Recently the stage transitioned into a striking convolution of ‘day glow’ colored tubes leading up and around the platform. Misters are built into shade structures providing a cool space to chill out between rage sessions.

Music begins roughly around 2 PM starting on Friday and lasts till 2 AM on all stages. Afterwards any wandering festival goer can easily find entertainment at smaller performance spaces or back in the campgrounds. Two years ago, musician Evan Fraser from Dirtwire performed a late night rap session, all powered by a bicycle generator attendees pedaled into the night. Last year a late night chill area was built into an art space with musicians performing downtempo music while listeners lounged on plush chairs and blankets.

There is far more to Lightning than just music. The festival promotes well-being through sunrise yoga sessions into the early afternoon, workshops teaching vegan-friendly cooking at The Learning Kitchen, holistic sound healing, consciousness expanding round tables hosted by leading figures in the community. Before your evening boogie session begins be sure to check out a class or attend a yoga session to bring your higher being into alignment. For those who prefer their own company there is Meditation Lookout, a hill centrally located in the festival grounds with a view of the valley. Catch a sunset and howl with friends and strangers alike as the sun sets across the valley sky.

The DoLaB does very well to promote visual artists with their program Lightning in a Paintcan. Grab some food or tea at a nearby vendor and much in the grass while beauty is created in front of you. The artists are very friendly and welcome conversation throughout the day. Last year each night the LIP Artwalk led by Do Art introduced artists to attendees. Art can be purchased on site with all funds going directly to the artist.

Lightning is a festival built around community. The vibes are some of the best in the west coast. Rally your crew now and plan for a great festival experience come Memorial Day weekend!

Alex Toth of Rubblebucket is launching a new project titled Alexander F and will release a self-titled album on February 10. The Alexander F album drops via So Sensation Records and features members of Perfect Pussy, Here We Go Magic as well as Delicate Steve and Kimbra. Today, Toth shared another album single called “Call Me Pretty”. The new track features Kimbra on vocals.

The Internet–the LA band–is on temporary hiatus while its individual members pursue solo projects. Bandleader Syd the Kid will drop her own album Fin on February 3 via Columbia. Syd previously shared album cut “All About Me“, a syrup-soaked, R&B trap track. Now she’s shared “Body”, a more intimate slow jam.

Seattle’s Dude York will follow-up their 2014 full length Dehumanize album with a sophomore effort next month. After a pair of singles released nearly a year ago to the day, Dude York shared the new album’s first track in November. Today, they’ve dropped Sincerely’s second song, “Tonight”.

Copenhagen, Denmark’s Rainbrother will release their new album Tales From the Drought on February 3 via General Bird. Earlier this month, the band shared Tales From The Drought’s first single, “Break Out”. This week, they’ve released the second album cut. “Blue” is a bit mellower track that features hypnotic guitar work, velvet vocals and some contagious melodies. References to Whitney and Fleet Foxes are not amiss.
