For quite some time, I have taken the flash unit off my camera and remotely controlled it using Nikon CLS system. Nikon’s proprietary system is excellent – I could use TTL and adjust flash output from the on-screen menu of my D300s – until I realized its shortcomings, that it uses infrared and hence line-of-sight is required for the remote flash to “see” the signal. Then there is the issue of my flash refusing to trigger outdoor at the beach, due to interference from sun light.

After some research and much deliberation, I purchased the above Phottix Strato II Multi Flash Trigger. Strato II features 2.4GHz radio frequency and can trigger flashes 150 meters away. Problem solved. Happy ending..

Not so fast.

Strato II is essentially a manual trigger. While I gain the range, I lose advance feature like TTL, and worst of all, I can’t remotely control flash power. Well, the takeaway is that my triceps will get some serious workout while I pace the distance between the camera and remote flash repeatedly to get proper flash exposure.

Perhaps one day when I make up my mind to get the Odin I will have my happy ending.

I have acquired a number of photography gears and accessories over the years. They help in making beautiful pictures, in creative ways. In turn, they too become beautiful and earn their place under the limelight as above.

The Mayans were wrong. The world did not end on December 21, 2012.

Now that approaching comet, dying sun, gigantic tsunami, incinerating solar flare or flesh-eating zombies are out of the picture, I can go back to making more pictures. 2012 wasn’t quite eventful, and she has been spending months long in darkness. Poor D300s.

Here’s hoping that our mother earth will spin for another 2012 years and along with it brings love and beauty to you and your loved ones.

EOS 2012 CNY Baby Photo Shoot

10 models; 100 photographers. If you ask me, that’s hell a lot of photogs. And with everyone ~~clamouring for the models’ attention~~ trying to get the best possible photos, the fight is on. Armed with not only long lenses, photogs outfit themselves with speedlites and reflectors. The atmosphere is intense. The pursue for ~~prettiness~~ the perfect picture is unrelenting. Never before had ~~bodies being piled up~~ memory cards being filled up so fast…

Paintball – Better Safe than Sorry

I must admit, wearing protective masks during paintball games is a nuisance. First of all, I feel suffocated breathing through the mask, which leads to the second why, it impairs my movement. Wearing the mask is not unlike wearing a motorcycle helmet, although it is not as heavy, it restricts my vision, my hearing and for sure I don’t feel as agile as without it. All being said, I was relieved that the marshal imposed masks-on rule after I saw what actually happened to my friend. He would have become blind, or half a panda (: if he wasn’t wearing that mask.

A few more shots before calling it a day.

Kaiching’s Moment

The hall was silent when Kaiching performed the magical Sonata Pathétique by Beethoven. It felt sad, wistful yet calm and peaceful. It’s hard to explain but it raised a mix bag of feelings when it reached my soul.
