Tra il 2009 e il 2010 ho vissuto a Graz in Austria. Una città meravigliosa che mi ha regalato alcune belle amicizie. Collaboravo in uno studio di Architettura e seguivo alcuni corsi di un master al TU Graz. Per arrotondare, insegnavo italiano ai bambini di una famiglia Italo-austriaca. Il più grande si chiamava Paul e il suo gioco preferito era realizzare e montare video con il mac del papà. Aveva solo 11 anni. Le nostre lezioni finirono con tazze modellate in Rhino, collage in photoshop e architetture fatte di lego. Avevo perso i contatti con questa famiglia ma alcuni mesi fa ho ricevuto una gentile email dove quel bambino mi chiedeva di fare uno stage. Voleva fare l'architetto. Dopo 11 anni, è stata una bella sorpresa ed ho accettato la sua richiesta.

Auguro a tutti Buone Vacanze con questo video realizzato da Paul e dai miei collaboratori con i mezzi che avevamo in casa. 

Estate 2021, una giornata tipo nel nostro studio che rimarrà nel cuore.

Fulvio Wirz, nato a Napoli nel 1977, si Laurea in architettura presso l’ Università Federico II con lode e dignità di pubblicazione della tesi.

Consegue un master in”Progettazione dello spazio pubblico” nel 2003 ed uno in ”Progettazione architettonica per l’integrazione del fotovoltaico nel 2004″.

Dal 2002 affianca alle esperienze progettuali nello studio paterno l’attività didattica nell’ambito dei corsi di progettazione del prof. Lucio Morrica ed una personale ricerca nelle relazioni tra architettura e nuovi media concretizzata attraverso numerosi concorsi e culminante con il conseguimento, nel 2008, del dottorato di ricerca in progettazione architettonica con la tesi “Rappresentazione Digitale e Composizione architettonica”.

Dal 2005 collabora in qualità di project architect nello studio Zaha Hadid Architects di Londra vincendo prestigiosi concorsi internazionali come la Biblioteca di Siviglia, il Masterplan per l’area “Kartal-Pendik” di Istanbul, la “Lilium Tower” a Varsavia ed il Museo “Eli & Edythe” in Michigan. E’ stato responsabile del progetto “Aura” esposto a Villa Foscari nell’ambito della Biennale di Venezia del 2008 e co-responsabile della prestigiosa Opera House di Dubai. Attualmente è incaricato del progetto di una moschea in Kuwait e di una serie di prodotti di design.

DIGITAL WATER PAVILION

The Digital Water Pavilion is a singular and innovative project of Milla Digital, implemented by Expoagua Zaragoza 2008 on behalf of the City of Zaragoza. Located in the connection node of the Expo site with the Milla Digital area, the DWP joins the theme of water with the digital technologies, creating a sense of continuity towards the future for the big projects of transformation nowadays in course in Zaragoza. This Pavilion of minimalist expression and small dimensions is, at the same time: a sophisticated machine of high mechanical precision; a building appearing and desappearing thanks to a 12 hydraulic pistons system; and a place where spaces are flexible, changing and responsive due to the action of 120 meters of water walls digitally controlled by almost 3.000 electromagnetique valves. It has been designed by carlorattiassociati | walter nicolino & carlo ratti, developping the interactive water wall concept created by the Smart Cities Group (MIT Media Laboratory) with the direction of Prof. William J. Mitchell.

"Produzione di un installazione temporanea" July 13 > 29 - Torino

Background
Dalla sinergia di Politecnico di Torino, Architectural Association e Columbia University nasce una ricerca border-line tra design e architettura finalizzata alla ideazione e produzione di una struttura temporanea da installare presso l'Università di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenzo durante il periodo di Designing Connected Places. Sistemi di progettazione parametrica sono utilizzati per concepire uno spazio pubblico sperimentale capace di rispondere ad alcuni stimoli investigati nei sei workshop.

Domanda di progetto
In una città dalla struttura complessa nella quale le interazioni fra le parti si intensificano, nella quale il numero dei decisori e degli scenari culturali si sovrappongono, si interconnettono, e talvolta si scontrano, è necessario rispondere con nuove tipologie, nuovi organismi urbani e nuovi sistemi di gestione del progetto. In questo scenario, come possono la progettazione digitale parametrica e la prototipazione rapida diventare strumenti di ricerca e sviluppo? Come li si puo' sfruttare per investigare temi fondamentali come la salute ed il benessere, l'efficienza della mobilità urbana, la sicurezza e l'ecologia?"

Background.
The synergy between the Politecnico di Torino, the Architectural Association and Columbia University gives life to research on the border between design and architecture to conceive and produce a temporary structure to be installed at the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo during the period of Designing Connected Places. Parametric design systems are used to conceive an experimental public space able to respond to some of the stimuli investigated in the six workshops.

Project question.
In a city with a complex structure where interactions between the parties involved intensify, in which the number of decision-makers and cultural scenarios overlap, interlink, and sometimes clash, a response is required with new forms, new urban bodies and new planning management systems. In this scenario, how can parametric digital design and rapid prototyping become tools of research and development? How can they be exploited to investigate fundamental questions like health and well-being, the efficiency of urban mobility, security and ecology?

A Brick for Greg Lynn

It is one single element, like a brick. That's the idea. It’s a new kind of brick to build with.
That's what Greg Lynn explains about his project for the exhibition at Sci-arc.
The structure fell apart, the day after the opening.
From the learning point of view: amazing, even if the result might be discouraging.
Why? To test a structure in such a public space, it is not that easy. They have been working for two years. No one was expecting it. In the computer's software was working perfectly. So was went wrong? Scaffolding.
Studying a system to help build the structure. A system that would have allowed the right positioning of the bricks.
As a matter of fact, at already halfway of the building process, the shape wasn't working properly.

The computer took us away from the reality. Connections perfectly under control in the virtual reality, become unstable for accumulation of imprecision in the everyday reality.
Maybe a well done scaffolding would have avoided the sum of imprecision versus a kind of free building process, that has been involved this time.

As a student pointed out, the mortar helps the bricks in their connection, and I would say, it also help to cover and to smooth imprecise bricks or assembling. Greg Lynn though, seems more interested in a pure approach of a single element that aggregates with others to create a structure/wall.

Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida Niemeyer Soares Filho (born December 15, 1907) is a Brazilian architect who is considered one of the most important names in international modern architecture. He was a pioneer in the exploration of the constructive possibilities of reinforced concrete.

His buildings are often characterised by being spacious and exposed, mixing volumes and empty space to create unconventional patterns and often propped up by pilotis. Both lauded and criticised for being a "sculptor of monuments"[1], his most famous design, the plan for the city of Brasilia, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“A+surface is a free Association, non-policy, no-profit”

It is regulated by a statute lodged at the Politecnico di Torino and is registered in the official list.

The associaiton was created by five students of the architecture faculty - politecnico di torino - who share a keen passion for architecture, and it is mainly focused on experimenting with the theories of contemporary architecture research, by organising workshops and conferences on a regular basis, promoting meetings on architecrure, design and research with the students of the faculty of architecture.

it was founded in 2005 with the purpose to disclose the new techniques of design in the computer science and the modelling real in scale.

The Association plays a major role within the accademic life of the politecnico thanks to several activities, such as:

-cultural initiatives primarly focused on architecture, research, design

-promoting cultural exchanges with similar architectural and cultural associations located throughout Italy and foreign universities.

-fostering and encouraging the circulation of architecture thanks to internet and leaflets

- organising conferences, debates, convenction, workshops and whatever else may adapt to the students' needs, both in Italy and abroad.

Two main events have been scheduled for 2008, also thanks to the promotion of politecnico:

-day conference and study: “digital design, prototyping and computer systems innovative”

-Workshop “ecopavilion” in collaboration with politecnico di torino and tutors aknowledged internationally

Here come "Le isole del tesoro ("The Treasure Islands"), a regional campus for contemporary culture, conceived and organized by iMage, and promoted by the Region of Tuscany, with the objective of encouraging a sensibility for contemporary architectural research in the Tuscan territory while also respecting the landscape and the history of the cities involved.

5+1AA, Carlini & Valle Architetti Associati, Gruppo A12, Ian+, Id-lab, maO, Marco Navarra (NOWA) are the architects who tutored, from October to November 2006, a number of young neo-architects with the aim of renewing the visions of Tuscany.

The project, curated by Paola Bortolotti and Marco Brizzi, and coordinated by Franco Filippini, involved eight municipalities (Capoliveri, Lastra a Signa, Peccioli, Poggio a Caiano, Prato, Rio nell'Elba, San Gimignano, San Giovanni Valdarno) in seven architectural design workshops, each lasting a week. The goals of the workshops were to elaborate concepts and ideas for the spatial qualification of specific areas in the eight cities.
