iPhone:

Viewmatic by Bright Mango ($0.99, 37.7 MB): This photo editing app brings back the awesomeness of old fashioned cameras from the viewfinders to the lenses. Unlike vintage camera apps, the appearance is applied directly to the photo rather than a retro UI. Therefore, everyone views your moments through the centering crosshairs, etc. In addition, you can enhance image using lens filters and borders for a complete appearance. The app features 11 lenses and 11 filters with intensity adjustments, cropping, in-app gallery, non-destructive modifications, and export to camera roll or sharing via email and social networks. More filters and lenses are available via in-app purchase.

Universal:

Better than Budgeting – Expense Tracking simplified by Norbert Frank (Free, 2.2 MB): Designed as a companion to the financial guidebook of the same name, though it’s not required, this money management app is meant to help you easily keep track of spending and other finance data. The core process works like a check register, but much easier and adapted for the digital app of online and other charge card purchases. Once categories are setup, such as Groceries and PayCheck, all it takes is a couple of seconds following a payment or deposit to launch the Quick Add form, enter in the amount, then tap OK. If you need to enter something later on, just tap on the “+” to utilize the standard transaction addition form, which includes date entry and more. For review purposes, the homepage displays simple and easy to read totals, plus there are graphs showing financial progression and distribution. The app features a clean UI, export (backup and sync) and import tools, 75 category icon choices, as well as support for the three finance types: expense, income, and investment.

Freedom 2000 from MyCharge

While Lightning-enabled battery cases for the iPhone 5 have begun to hit the market, the Freedom 2000 from MyCharge provides a unique solution. Instead of covering the entire bottom part of the handset, the case uses a tethered Lightning cable that can be plugged in when you need extra power. When it isn’t needed, the tip tucks away into the case. Even though the case weighs less than 0.4 ounces, MyCharge says the 2,000 mAH battery can completely charge a dead iPhone.

The power button on the back of the case also tells the user how much power is left in the extra battery. The case charges with an included micro-USB cable.

Available in either silver or black, the Freedom 2000 retails for $99.99 and can be purchased directly on MyCharge’s site now.

Minx Air 100 and 200 from Cambridge Audio

High-end speaker manufacturer Cambridge Audio has just introduced a pair of AirPlay-compatible speakers – the Minx Air 100 and 200. Both speakers can also connect to any Bluetooth-enabled device. Using the free Minx Air app, available to download in the App Store now, users can find their favorite Internet radio station and then assign it to one of five preset buttons on either unit for quick access.

The 100 is 14-inches wide and packs 100W of power. Measuring in at 18-inches wide, the 200 is highlighted by a 200W set of digital amplifiers plus a built-in active subwoofer.

Both the Minx 100 and 200 are available directly from Cambridge Audio and retail for $449 and $599, respectively.

UE BOOM from Ultimate Ears

Touted as a social music player, the UE BOOM offers 360-degree sound and an impressive battery that provides up to 15 hours of playback on a single charge. Wrapped in a special acoustic skin that is both water and stain resistant, music lovers can use the free UE BOOM app to wirelessly connect two units to play in either stereo-to-stereo or traditional left/right stereo mode.

Available in six colors – red, black, white, blue, pink and moss green – the UE Boom can be purchased on the Ultimate Ears site and other retailers for $199.99.

smartSTRIKE from Scosche

Featuring a 2-in-1 connector design, the smartSTRIKE from Scosche can charge and sync both a Lightning and micro-USB device with just one cable. A slim barrel design should also work with most cases, even backup battery packs.

The smartSTRIKE retails for $24.99 and can be purchased directly from Scosche. Featuring a retractable cable, the smartSTRIKE PRO costs $5 more.

One of my all-time favorite apps, TuneIn Radio, has just received a substantial update that brings a slate of new features.

First up, iPhone users of version 3.6 can take advantage of TuneIn Live. The new feature shows album artwork and titles for each song that plays. Signing up for a free TuneIn account further personalizes the experience.

And to help never miss a live event, a specific show can now be added to a user’s personal calendar. A notification can also be set to alert someone before an event begins.

Along with the ability to share songs and stations with your Google+ circles, BMW and MINI drivers of specific models can also access the app directly from their dashboards.

Finally, the iPad version of the app now provides a smoother swiping experience while the iPhone version sports a revamped interface.

TuneIn Radio is a universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It can be downloaded in the App Store now for free.

The pro version, which adds the ability to record audio streams in an ad-free environment, can be downloaded for $4.99. Pro users can also set timed recordings for their favorite programs.

Apple began to offer refurbished models of both tablets back in March.

All refurbished units come with a standard one-year warranty along with a new battery and outer shell. I’ve ordered many refurbished devices from Apple, and have always been pleased with the results.

Do you want to know what the rumored iWatch won’t look like? Then take a look at Apple’s most recent commercial for the iPhone 5.

As pointed out by 9to5Mac, at around the 30-second mark, someone seems to be listening to music on their iPhone 5 while conspicuously wearing a very large wristwatch-like device.

And since Apple wouldn’t exactly use a commercial for another product to introduce the device, it is safe to assume that someone is having a good laugh at the iWatch fakeout.

The TV ad, “Music Every Day,” shows how different people enjoy using their iPhones while listening to music. It is a followup to the original “Photos Every Day” ad that touts how popular the iPhone is as a camera.

Rumors of the iWatch have picked up steam since the beginning of 2013. The device was at one time expected to debut sometime later this year. But recently, one analyst warned that it could easily be late 2014 before the device hits the market.
